Meh, Okay food, TERRIBLE service. Waited half an hour for our drinks and way longer for our food, wasnt checked on even once. It was a lot better, before COVID, whenever they actually had the soda fountain in operation. It's sad that they advertise this restaurant as having an operational soda fountain --- u have to go to the restaurant in person to find out that it is completely 100% NON OPERATIONAL anymore. read more

We were walking around S Lake Tahoe and saw Red Hut. I'd read that it was a local favorite, so I talked my brother into going there with me. It was a great place. After waiting 5 minutes for a seat, we were seated by the window at a tiny table. We both had the daily special, THE USUAL. It was two eggs, hash browns, and a biscuit/gravy for $9.99. I upgraded mine for $2 to their specialty, the ROSTI, which includes chopped sausage, green onions, cheddar, and sour cream on my crisp hash browns. Well worth it, as was the coffee. $13 and $15 each (+ tax/tip) for big breakfasts in Tahoe was a bargain. The Red Hut is decorated inside like a fishing/ski lodge version of Cracker Barrel in a more homey atmosphere. Very nice people and good quick service. Hard to complain. Yes I'm actually up at this hour but rarely. I'm shocked I have not found this cafe earlier, it's probably because I'm never up this early to eat. The staff is really on top of things here, I was greeted promptly and seated at my choice of the counter or a booth. I like counters if I can see the cooks at work and this was not the case so I chose a booth. The order was taken quickly since my choice was made up prior to entering. I ordered the chicken fried steak with eggs eyes looking up and they had hash browns with the order, yum. I gotta say they make a chicken fried steak worth coming for all the time. This was probably one of the best chicken fried steaks I have had in long time. This cafe has multiple locations owned probably by the same owner/s. They certainly know their stuff keeping this a simple but exceptionally good food cafe. The decorations are what you would expect from a old fashioned diner, very nice touch. To continue with a follow up from my less than appropriate treatment. On 3/25, I finally received a phone call from management at the Red Hut main office, apologizing for the less than professional treatment I received. The manager I spoke with was very professional, apologized for the incorrect handling of the issue and handled it immediately. I give a 5-star to the young lady! Yes, I will give Red Hut Cafe in Carson another visit in the future, knowing that management takes customer satisfaction very seriously. I usually stop here for breakfast whenever I'm going hiking in the area. Their menu provides enough variety to give me the energy I need to hit the trails. My favorite thing to order is pretty simple...an omelette with bacon, but not just any bacon. I pay the up-charge to get their jalapeño bacon. So, so good. Totally worth it. They do tend to get busy pretty quickly here. So arrive early or prepare for a lengthy wait for a table. We always used to go to red hut when we lived in Tahoe but haven't been there for years. We decided to go to this one to get our Rosti fix and I think they are even better than Tahoe! We went around 1pm. The service was quick, the food was hot and delicious and the rosti was just as cheesy delicious as we remembered. I must say the portions were of good size and quite yummy as well. Spent the weekend with my wife in Lake Tahoe and stayed the Sat night in Carson City, NV. Have the breakfast at Red Hut Cafe near by the hotel. Food and service are fantastic. One thing that I need to highlight is the honest girl at the cashier. I paid the bill by cash and she told me 3% discount will be offered if payment by cash. This like the gas station you will get slightly cheaper if by cash. I believe most the restaurants already included the credit card admin fee in the menu - simply transferred the cost to customers but few restaurant owners will offer discount to consumers who pay by cash. To show my appreciation I just let them to keep the 3% on top of tips. read more

Red Hut Carson, I've been a couple of times and ya know it's pretty much the same good to eat a meal place. Typically I frequent the old shack on Hwy 50, I'm a regular...but not so much these days unfortunately. It's a covid thing... My regular Dons Special has never disappointed and today being one of the first in the door we were greeted with a big smile and some hot joe. My friend went down the what did you order path (she'd had a craving for days for this apparently) Two eggs over easy, bacon and avocado on the white toast. Hot tea and hot water came cold, sandwich options (toasted or untoasted) and side options were all ASSUMED but not presented for "our" preference. Was taken here for breakfast.. not all the food came at the same time. The menu says nothing about mustard on the burger I ordered. So I sent it back. It was too much and I hate mustard... they bring it back this time a larger bun covered in so much mayo and the burger is lost. I took one bite and hand to send to back - it was from the mustard bun and burnt. The chicken fried steak was okay but after you ate more it became salty. Potatoes were undercooked. Came for breakfast. Was not impressed. Mainly because the waitstaff was not happy about something the manager did/said. She, the "manager"(?) was reprimanding our server who then brought her attitude to the table. The order was not right, no one seemed to really care about our service. The food was ok, as a normal breakfast should be. What soured us was the whole negative feeling in the place. Unhappy staff makes for unhappy customers.
