This is a great little place connected to slot world in carson city. The food is cheap and good quality. I only gave them a 4 because when my husband ordered the fried chicken dinner, we thought it was going to be actual fried chicken. It was more like a chicken finger meal. It was still good, just a little disappointing. I enjoyed my spaghetti. I never order spaghetti, but I'm glad I did. It was my first time visiting Betsy's and I couldn't have been happier!! The service was excellent, it was very clean, and the food was spectacular! I had the Chicken fried steak and eggs with biscuit. It was absolutely perfect! I was actually very happy that the gravy came on the side without me asking. I don't mind either way, smothered or not, but this was nice because my chicken fried steak remained crispy. The coffee was also incredible and made it to my top favorite coffee list. If I can drink it black, then I know for sure that it's great coffee. It's not very often that I get to visit Carson city, but I will make sure to visit Betsy's every chance I get. My Dad and I had lunch here today, the atmosphere was nice, the server was attentive and polite, the food was good I had a cheese burger and French fries, my Dad had a BLT. The beef was fresh and tasty and the French fries were crunchy but tender inside I enjoyed it.. my Dad was happy with his BLT.. The only complaint is my Sierra Mist tastes flat.. We were headed back towards Lake Tahoe from a work assignment out by the Gigafactory and passing thru Carson City from the east. Food was on our minds as there's not many food choices before you get to Carson City. I saw good reviews of this Betsy's Big Kitchen located inside the Slot World casino. We were seated at a nice booth by the windows. Looking over the menu, I saw steaks and prime rib on offer as this was a Friday for the prime rib. We went for the most expensive options on the menu ... yeah since this is on the expense account! We ordered the 12 oz. New York steak as well as the 12 oz prime rib, both served with baked potato and veggies along with soup or salad. Both priced at $18.99. Friday is always clam chowder for the soup. By the time we finish our soup and salad, the entrees arrive. Wow, that prime rib looks good! Glad I ordered the big 12 oz cut vs. the smaller 8 oz. cut. Ordered medium doneness and that's what arrived. The NY steak was cooked as ordered as well, med rare. The baked potatoes were cut and stuffed with whipped butter and chives .... actually green onions. OK, my first cut into the prime rib, I could tell it was gonna be nice and tender the way my knife cut through. The flavor was pretty good for a casino special and for the price. A higher end prime rib this size would set you back around $45.00 at a steakhouse. The NY steak wasn't as tender as my friend had hoped, tho cooked med rare perfectly. I think it's just the cut of meat. He said next time he's getting the prime rib like I had. Overall, I'm glad we stopped in here and if I'm out on Highway 50 again, I'll stop here for any meal. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. OK, now off to Lake Tahoe for a relaxing weekend before heading back home next week. read more

My last review was about a year ago and things have gotten worse since then. The staff has had changes and the management people have too. I watch the operation from my table and can see things are not running tight like before when Krys was manager. Now she's over at Bodine's and that place runs right. It just seems like the people working here don't have their hearts into the job, like just get it done, it's a paycheck. Each section has no idea what's going on between front and back of house. The food .. I ordered fish and chips and it was the strangest looking fish that I've ever seen. The shape was smooth like it was fried potato slices, but it wasn't. It was fish alright, and actually tasted OK and was very hot served, but the look was looked no other! Check out my pics to see this fish. The fries were fries, just fine. It seems every time we come to this place it is hit or miss with service and food. We waited almost 45 mins after we ordered our food before we received it. I had to get up from our table to ask our waitress Irma why are tables that were sat well after we were sat eating their food and we haven't received ours. And had to ask her to fill up our drinks. What is frustrating is another waitress was talking to a friend right next to our table with our empty glasses sitting in plain view. When we finally recd our food, my Turkey dinner was drenched in very salty gravy. The turkey seemed to be old, soggy and tasteless. My husband had the meatball sandwich which was over cooked and his fries under cooked. Irma never checked back with us. As much as Irma is nice she lacks the skills to be an efficient waitress. We usually request certain waiters or a waitress but unfortunately this little cafe is going down hill and is getting worse since prices went up recently. read more

I've been trying to come try this restaurant out, but I like to eat late and they seem to always close before I could get here. I finally made it here tonight before they closed at 10p. Not a very elaborate menu, I went with what they called the cowboy steak. It was pretty much a salisbury steak with sauted onions and bell peppers. They used a hamburger patty, pretty non exciting. I would have preferred a chopped steak but that wasn't the case here. I can honestly say, been there and will not order again. It came with mashed potatoes and steamed or boiled vegetables consisting carrots, parsnips, broccoli and snap peas. I love vegetables of any kind so they were the first to go. I will have to try some of their menu items to finalize my opinion. It was not terrible but it also left me with, this can't be the best you can do. read more

We have a large group (8) that used to meet to celebrate a birthday. For years we went here, always accommodating, we brought a dessert, our own plates and forks and shared extra with staff. Then they got a new manager, you can no longer bring dessert unless you pay $10. We decided to try another place. Chilis's was and is very accommodating. Yesterday for a change we thought we'd go back to Betsy's. At first they wouldn't seat us until everyone was there, fine. Mind you, maybe only 5 ppl were there. Then we said right away we would be paying the $10. Everyone looking at menus, getting ready to order, and new rule, can only make two tickets for the entire table. We would have had 3, no. Would be no different if we all sat at separate tables.... This new manager lost over $200 in sales and the waitresses lost tips because he is on a power trip. read more

I absolutely LOVE this place!! Before I even get to the food, the service is OUTSTANDING. All the waiters and waitresses here seem to legitimately enjoy their jobs. They are all very friendly and attentive. I've been here twice now and not once have I ever had to ask for a drink refill or more napkins. It's hard to find good service nowadays but this is as good as it gets. Great staff here. It's a very clean place. My tables were always exceptionally clean and the overall appearance of the diner is very tidy. It has kind of a 50's feel to it a bit. I had the Cajun chicken pasta, but I switched out the pasta for veggies as I am in an intense carb cutting workout phase right now. I had it with the Alfredo pasta that it comes with last time, and the pasta was excellent. A lot of times Alfredo sauce is too rich and heavy and just too much for me, but theirs is fantastic though. It was light and creamy and very flavorful. I feel like they nailed the Alfredo sauce. The noodles were cooked perfectly and it was a great part of the meal. The garlic bread was great as well. It's got the crisp on the outside and warm and chewy inside. So many times places just give you a floppy piece of buttered bread, but even the garlic bread here is great. Now the best for last. The Cajun chicken. OH. MY. GOD. I am from Vegas and I have eaten at all the fancy places on the strip, and I would put this chicken up against any of them. It's a nice high quality thin cut chicken breast very nicely seasoned and it is tender and juicy. SO flavorful! It's honestly some of the best chicken breast I've ever had! They are also very reasonably priced. I had this dish with an iced tea and a salad and it was only $14. You can't beat that in today's economy! I honestly give this place 5/5 stars as they get everything right. What a great dining experience. Thank you! I'll be back many, many more times. read more

Ok so if you come to Carson City, you've got to come here for the amazing food and great deals! I was referred to this place by a friend and two of us went to breakfast to check out the place. It is inside a casino, which is small and I didn't walk around. You can go gamble if you'd like ( I don't gamble). Service was very old school feel where the servers are very nice and attentive, whom make you feel like you're at a friends house rather than restaurant! We both ordered the chicken fried steak and hash browns, which was highly recommended by our waitress. Our bread faf came with eggs, buttermilk biscuit, chicken fried steak, gravy on the side and hash browns. The food was so plentiful! We both just had coffee and I couldn't finish my meal since it was so much food! The price..... was very, very reasonable. For both of us was about $17 and worth every penny! The food came out fast and taste fresh, hot, seasoned well and again plentiful! I've heard of the mimosas here but I didn't get to try one. I will def next time though. Parking is free in the lot. Wait time was Minimal and again service was great! I wish I remembered who was our server as she was great! I can't wait to go again! read more

This is actually Betsys Big Kitchen, took me a second to find this because of the name. Since I'm usually ballin' on a budget, the $7.99 plates bring me in every time. My first visit I ordered the fried chicken and the as thrown off to find it a nice sized, fried chicken patty. This piece of chicken is fried so nicely and so juicy. Although that is my first choice, the open face turkey plate with gravy is an honorable mention. My last visit I had Michael. He was absolutely exceptional. We stopped at Betsy's because they had $7.99 plates and kids meals. The food was basic- nothing to rave about- but the waiter we had (Michael) was friendly and patient. For the price, you can't really have a sit down meal anywhere else. The dining room was bright and clean. The only issue we had may not be an issue if you are familiar with casinos. We were not so walking even a super short way through the smoky casino was a little off putting. The restrooms are also inside of the casino so taking the kids was a bit of a treat. They thought they were in an arcade that we were not allowing them to play in. However, if you're vacationing on a tight budget because it's almost the holidays, you can't beat the price! read more

Tonight was the worst service I have ever received. I went in and placed a to-go order. Two cheeseburgers with bacon and a chicken sandwich. The girl put it in the system brought me the ticket and then went to take care of something else. Upon returning I asked her if she got the bacon on the. Cheeseburgers because I did not see that on the ticket. She said that I did not order it that way. I said yes I did as well as a friend that I was with said yes she did. She got very frustrated and went to go talk to her manager. She came back and said that they could add the bacon for an additional $6. I told her that was not acceptable because on the menu the bacon was an additional $2. She turned around and left she went to get her manager. This guy was very young and very rude. He came over to me with attitude a mile high. His name is Clay. He told me that I was more than welcome to go eat somewhere else. I asked him why he was charging me so much for the bacon? He says that is how much it is. I say no it is $2 x 2 burgers that is $4. He says ya with tax!! So he went and rang it up so that he could prove it to me. I asked him why he was charging me $2 for gratuity? He says all take out orders have a gratuity. I say but you already charged me the gratuity. I'm not paying it twice when you messed up the order. I told him to give me my change and my food so that I could leave. He did with attitude and sass. Kept telling me he was the manager. He may be the manager but he has no customer service and is very immature. I waited for my food. When it was ready he brought it out to me with a very quick step and attitude. Proceeded to tell me that I was more than welcome to take my business somewhere else because he was kicking me out. Don't come back is what he said. Really over their mistake? I took my food, drove the 10 miles home only to open up my burger and find a mess. It was just thrown into the container, the bun was in pieces and everything was NOT acceptable. I am very disappointed in this experience. I have not had any issues with this restaurant before so I'm going to have to go with the problem being the "Manager" Clay. I asked him at One point what his mom would say if she could see him being so rude and disrespectful? And he said that his mom was even ruder than him. Wow - that is an achievement to say the least. Betsy's Cafe is actually called Betsy's Big Kitchen. Just a general FYI. Hubby and I stopped in for a quick bite to eat on a Monday morning. We only had to wait about 10 minutes before they sat us. The menu was adorable as well as their wall hangings. The hostess and waitress were attentive and gave great customer service. Taco Salad: if you like chili i would recommend this, but not if you want a "taco" salad. Chicken Fried Steak: very thin slice of meat in between the breading. We got mashed potatoes and I am certain they were from a package. French Fries: came out warm but not very evenly cooked. I will say that our sodas were never empty and again the staff was friendly. But even for casino food, I would still rate it on the lower end. read more

End of the month dictates we use or loose the 2-4-1 platter coupon for May. For me a basic Cowboy Steak, fries and soup while Mrs. E. braved a Cobb salad. Reason I say this is it's a really big salad with no shortage of ingredients (or flavour). She prefers iceberg lettuce which is all they use in a Cobb. The Cowboy is nothing to write home about. A decent ground steak with slightly undercooked veggies and over seasoned fries. The brown gravy is exceptional, however. ****SCORCH ALERT**** I can eat hot foods. I don't want to but I will. The Minestrone soup is the spiciest soup ever. I have friends that will dig hearing this. Mostly, at my age I am not big on the spice burns about the mouth, lips and face. Some stupid obsession drives a man to finish what he hath started. Voilà! Hello, Mr. Outer-Lip-Burn!!! From the "Why Can't it Be a Totally Great Experience" department, there's this: "I'll be your cashier when you're ready" isn't working very well for these folks. They drop the "amount due" wallet but don't return to collect it. Last visit here, Samantha was almost 10 minutes total in dropping the check, returning for payment and bringing back the change. Yet the dishes were cleared in advance of all that! (????). Tonight I actually timed Candy and it was a disgusting 14 minutes total. ***TWO TIPS*** To avoid being stuck here for 15 minutes while your waitress chats it up with the regulars or her friends that stopped to visit (which happens a lot in here), I suggest the following: Bring plenty of smaller denominations and have total bill with tip $$ ready to slide in the wallet. Was passing through as a large family of 9. This was some of the best food and service I have seen in a long time. Everything from the Chilli Verde to the Ribey was perfect. I'm a Texas girl and picky about my steak ! Steak was perfect. Along with some of the best green Pozole I have ever had. If your looking for great food and great service I definitely recommend. The service was poor. Our waitress forgot to order one of our two sandwiches so the other sandwich sat under the heat lamp for 15 minutes until they made the second sandwich. Once the waitress realized how long we waited for our food, she decided to just ignore us for the rest of the Experience. She only bothered to offer to fill our empty water glasses when we were ready to leave. I would've complained to the manager, but she was too busy doing other things like checking silverware and other non-important tasks. For the hour we were stuck there waiting.
