Diner located inside the Slot world casino. Smelled of heavy cigarettes as soon as you walk in. Very downtown Vegas feel casino. Once you enter the diner we were greeted with a smiling face and sat right away. Nice diner, very clean and friendly staff. Drink orders were taken and shortly after our food orders were taken. Took a good min for our food to finally arrive but I was impressed with my chicken Parmesan. Very moist and tender. The sauce had a lil spicy twist which I loved. The Betsy Burger was big and juicy the only thing that would bake it better if it was flame broiled, other than that it was good. Chicken fried steak was huge and tender. It came with the gravy on the side and not on top like it typically does. Still it was good, gravy could you a bit more flavor. Came with a choice of veggies or $2 more for a loaded bake potato. All in all 3 adults ate for $37 (not including tip) and that's is a great price! Will definitely recommend and be back next time we are down. read more

Don't understand estimate this cafe for a typical cafe. It's got that definite cafe atmosphere with a great menu. Friday and Saturday they have a fantastic $9.99 prime rib dinner. 8oz prime rib, choice of potato, mixed seasonal vegetables and a choice of soup or salad. They don't skimp on their portion sizes as well. My daughter and I shared our meal and left more than satisfied. They have a children's menu as well with a decent selection for under $5. Called in an order to Betsy's Big Kitchen around 3PM for prime that I knew wasn't being served until around 4PM. My new favorite person BARBARA answered the phone and took my order. She went so far above and beyond to make sure that I got my meal exactly as I'd like and was so sweet and personable. When I went to pick up my order, everything was packaged and labeled and she made sure to show me everything was there and what each of the sides/condiments were. My soup was also wrapped in plastic in case of any leakage and everything was neatly stacked in boxes for ease of transport. She was simply amazing. I haven't even touched the food yet because I came straight home to make sure that someone recognized her incredible service. If you have the honor of visiting Betsy's while Barbara is working, I have no doubt that you'll be well taken care of. We had a tough visit today, 8/19/23 430pm. It was not busy when we arrived. Normally, we would go to Bodine's for Prime Rib with a baked potato, and I can get cole slaw instead of their veggies. They were not going to allow a baked potato, so we were going to leave. Then they allowed it. I ordered cole slaw but got overcooked, falling apart mixed veggies. The server is different from the waitstaff, and she wanted to charge for cole slaw. I told her I was told it was ok, so she brought the soupy sweet cole slaw. And, the Bleu cheese dressing was diluted with ??milk?? so it was soupy and had no bleu cheese flavor. Bodines puts the butter and sour cream on the potato, so I was openly surprised at the dry potato. The waitress said they are just way too busy to dress our potatoes for us. Shebtalked down to us and we were not complaining. I was just surprised, then the server went and got the plate of individual containers of potato toppings. What a waste that requires more dishwashing. And the au jus was put in a small syrup container with a small opening for dipping. It took a long time to get the meal, and it was not good, except for the prime rib. We will go back to Bodines. My husband had chicken fried steak and eggs, and that was decent. read more

So have eaten here several times for breakfast since they remodeled and have enjoyed it each time. With the remodel the restaurant is very nice and clean. Also every time we have visited the service has been excellent, our order taken quickly and our drinks never empty. The food is also prepared well and is tasty. What a hidden gem. Old school diner. It's attached to a casino so it was a little scary but there is an entrance near the outside so you don't have a lot of casino to deal with. Menu is classic diner fare. The waite staff is abundant and attentive. Your coffee or tea will never get below half full. Food is excellent and always nice to get a breakfast bill for 2 under $20. Me & my wife have eaten here a few times, and it's been hit it miss with service and food. Today was the last straw. After taking our order we waited for what seemed like forever. We observed that many people who came in after us got served and many were halfway through their meals. I checked my watch and it has been 40 minutes since we placed our order. My wife is very unhappy as she was not only hungry but have made a commitment to be somewhere to help a friend. So I ask the staff at the counter if they had lost our breakfast, and they all looked at each other like they were lost. Then they go to the manager who took our order and he comes out of his office and says oh I'm sorry I forgot put in your order! WHAT? REALLY you forgot to put in our order. Why, because you had to stop and bullshit with a customers while you put our order in your shirt pocket Duh! Needless to say we left very HANGRY! So I recommend you don't eat here. We have given this restaurant numerous chances to get better. There were times we came back because certain staff went out of their way to make any mistakes better. But to leave us setting while other customers who came in and were waited on the to tell us Oh, sorry I forgot to put you order in and I never checked up on you for over 45 minutes is unforgivable! To the credit of the man the did offer to comp our meal, but we were beyond being frustrated. Take note there are very few places in Carson City where the food & service is above 3 star quality! This diner is located inside Slot World Casino. We were passing by and decided to go in after noticing the prime rib sign outside. The restraunt was a good value and sevice was great. The food was also surprisingly tasty. We had the prime rib (available on Fridays and Saturdays, 8 or 12oz). It came with soup (we chose potato soup and it was topped with cheese) which was delicious, some vegetables and mashed potatoes. Medium rare was slightly more rare, so we should have gone with medium. And we had the chicken parmesan (breaded chicken) which came with spaghetti and marinara sauce and was covered in more cheesy goodness. I enjoyed my dining experience here and will be back if in the area. read more

I very much recommend this restaurant because the value for what you pay is amazing. I ordered the 8 oz New York steak with salad and mash potato. The portion given was not small but medium to above average depending on restaurant. The steak was cooked to medium per my order and it does have a slight hint of grill flavor. The salad is decent but at least better than some restaurant that serves yellowing cabbage. The mash potato was very fluffy and i like the gravy not being too salty. The staff was friendly and will occassionally come back and check to make sure if everything is alright. There were regular customers when i was there waiting for a table and they love them as well. The price of the meal was so fantastic i decided to tip, the difference between their menu price, and what it would cost to eat this meal in another american diner. If the goal was to make sure the employees get enough payment from the tip, they are doing a great job. I wish i can visit the restaurant more often but since i am only visiting the area, i can only hope the next time i am around, they would still be around. It's rather rare to find American diner where i live and i think they are doing a great job. The atomsphere is much closer to a traditional American diner, which i appreciate even though it's generally a little dim for me. Finally once again the price you pay is very customer friendly in today's economy and is hard to beat, especially since the food is up to standard if not above average. This is the type of place I love to have breakfast in. Its local, its small, you feel at home. Its folksy. You walk out full, but not stuffed and prices are very reasonable. Betsy's is located in a casino along highway 50 on the east side of Carson City (on the road to Virginia City) We stopped for breakfast and everybody in our party was very pleased with their order. I eat here quite a bit. Usually breakfast (Betsy's Special) or lunch (Betsy's Burger). The meals are super affordable. You get a decent portion. For the most part staff is very friendly. There are only two that I prefer not to have wait on me. If you are looking for a place to take your family and you order from the specials (which are always available and usually under $7) its a winner. Wow you have to be kidding me right? look I like the breakfast as this is probably the best meal for me, they recently changed their menu and took off another one of my favorites the fish and chips! sure it is like on a secret menu now, so you have to ask for it, but overall you just have to pick your favorite and stick to it, but the fish sandwich has got to improve or leave the menu page all together.. the salad bar is good , you just need to check it before you decide you want it. and at times I wonder if they reuse the clam chowder if there is leftovers as it can be the best one time and runny the next.. hummm read more

Decided to try Betsy's Cafe for breakfast since we hadn't been after the new owners and remodel. It was nice to see a couple of the old waitresses and some new faces as well. Prices were very similar to the previous Cafe. I had the $6.99 chicken fried steak and it was good for the price. Not one of my favorites, but it wan't horrible. Just a little thinner than I would normally like. I liked that the gravy came on the side so I could use as much or as little as I wanted. Eggs over medium were cooked to perfection and the biscuit was a nice touch. I also like that you butter your own toast or biscuit. Butter is on the table. Coffee service was incredible. Someone was always topping it off so it stayed nice and warm. The restaurant was clean and staff was friendly. We will definitely be back! read more

Bad, even for casino food standards! Comped lunch bad! Don't show up hungry. Their facelift is nice, new menus are nice and restaurant is not too Smokey. Other than that, our sever & service was terrible! I can't even name her because she never even properly introduced herself. We got our food only after I got up and asked for it, as I could see it sitting in the heat lamp area. Over a 30min wait for a chicken sandwich and Fish&Chips, How embarrassing! The manager came and did apologize for her terribleness and comped our meal, but as this was our first time here there will definitely not be a return visit. Food is okay for a cafe, we have been customers for years and years.. we have been in half a dozen times since the remodel.. we won't be back, there is a loud mouthed waitress that thinks it's perfectly fine to forget to put your order in for 45 minutes then proceeds to bend over and put her face within inches of my husbands and laugh off her mistake.. we told her to forget the order and give us the bill for drinks.. the male manager on the floor came and spoke to us, we told him what happened .. the waitress was very unprofessional and overly familiar with several of the Cafe patrons.. the manager comped the drinks, we left and headed to a drive thru.. A little time passed so we figured we would try going to the cafe again.. as we waited to be seated we saw/heard the loud mouthed waitress again.. sigh We decided to stay but we requested a waiter.. the hostess sat us and after a meeting in the kitchen entrance area with some wait staff.. several minutes after we were seated a young man made his way over to our table, he was friendly but seemed nervous.. his service was great! The loud mouthed waitress did a few passes of our table and announced over her shoulder to other customers that we were the people who didn't want her waiting on us... then not long after a female manager came over and bent over to stick her face in ours just to ask us how everything was.. now never mind just a few minutes before this ms loud mouth was up at the front talking to her and they were both looking straight at us... the male manager was no where to be seen, I don't know if he even works there anymore.. Now for people reading this review, if you go during day shift you may not run into this rude manager/waitress duo.. For us? We will never step foot into Slot World again.. we had been loyal easy going customers for years, we never left a bad tip.. we never left a big mess.. even when our kids were toddlers.. my kids witnessed all this bad behavior from these women, they have zero desire to ever eat there again.. This was an absolutely cool place. Very airy and just PACKED! I am sure the prices have something to do with it. Reasonable and the amount you get for what you pay is insane. We actually went out of our way twice to go there while on our trip and if you're going up Carson way, I highly say go have a grub fest there. I had Chicken Fried Steak and it was the best I have ever had anywhere and it game with eggs and hash browns and bacon or sausage 5.99 cannot do that at Denny's There is a Casino attached to the place and it is clean and nice too. We go to Betsy's Big Kitchen fairly often as we live in the neighborhood. The last two visits have been sketchy with service but we thought they might be going thru training/hiring. Today, 1/2/24 I called in a to go order at 3:57pm, actually had to call 4 times as no one answered the phone, spoke to Barbara who took the order, our phone number and said to be there at 4:15. My husband arrived at said time, no order, went back in to speak to Barbara and she said she didn't have an order that only call she had was for soup special. Asked to speak to a Manager, she didn't seem to care at all and said she had overheard the conversation and that they could expedite an order. I guess they prefer to lose customers instead. The food is mediocre at best so not a great loss, they were just close and nice not to have to cook dinner sometimes, plus why would we drive over there if we hadn't placed an order. read more

Grossness and unsanitary condition alert: read near end! I went here in October of 2016. I had a coupon for 50% off at Betsy's Cafe (located inside the casino) for new players, so I decided to give it a try before it expired at the end of the month. I hate to write a bad review because all of the employees were very nice, from casino staff to bartender to the staff at Betsy's Cafe. They were attentive. But the food was horrendous and one service incident insanely unprofessional. First, I had had to go the the Player's Club again, after I was seated in the cafe. The first time was to get my initial card, and the second time was because the cafe said to get the discount, I had to have the paper coupon for the restaurant transferred to my card, and that could only be done at the Player's Club. Ok, fine. The player's club was on the opposite end of the casino, but exercise is good for you. But the lesson I learned is you get what you pay for. They have a daily special of All-You-Can-East Pasta for $1.99, from 11 AM until 10 PM. The pasta and sauce changes each week, so one week might be macaroni alfredo, and the next might be spaghetti and marinara. Since my meal would be only $0.99 after the coupon (an insane price for an AYCE meal), I figured I couldn't lose, which was true. Nonetheless, the pasta was very bad (it was macaroni alfredo,sa but they called it "penne alfredo" on the menu board, lol). The sauce was very watery. There was no flavor, none, despite the fact they sprinkled the top with tons of parsley. Alfredo is supposed to be thick, cheesy, and flavorful. It was just basically like warm water or milk that was slightly creamy. Plus, they chose the cheapest pasta around: macaroni. After about three bowls, I said to myself this is pathetic. So I decided to have the unlimited soup and salad bar for $7.99 to add some diversity and flavor. I figured it would still be a deal, since I would get half off that and the pasta. But no, they said the half off only applies to the lowest priced item on the check. So I would have to pay full price for the soup and salad bar, and get just $1 off the AYCE Pasta. I laughed. I told the waitress I would pay full price at $1.99 for the pasta, but the leave and come right back to use my half off coupon for the $7.99 soup and salad bar. She said I could just do two separate checks at the same time, and apply the coupon to the higher one, and I said ok. That was nice of her. The problem was the soup and salad bar was only a little better. The cucumbers and tomatoes were wilted. Part of the lettuce was spoiled (you had to pick out the unspoiled leaves carefully with the tongs). There were sunflower seeds all over and spilled dressing everywhere. They had the smallest salad bar I have ever seen, and only had three flavors for dressing The chili was greasy (you could see the oil floating on top) and the other soup (I think it was chicken noodle) was watery and just about empty. The top of the container look like it hadn't washed for days. You can see this is some of the pics which I added right before this review. The worst part is yet to come: the waitress, Barbara, was bringing me another refill of pasta. Some of the sauce was on the lip of the bowl, and it got on her hand. As she was coming to me table, she suddenly shifted sides, to the side where my sole napkin was (they were so cheap they only gave me one thin napkin!), which I had been using. After the sat the bowl down, she quickly, and in one motion, brought her hand to my napkin on the table, and brushed it against it to get the sauce off of her hand. Now that is the napkin I was using to wipe my mouth and hands. Sometimes I even blow my nose in the napkin. Absolutely unacceptable and unsanitary behavior! I was stunned. I actually laughed because it was that outrageous that I could never have imagined anything like that. Now, a few months later, I am angry. I wish I had reported them right away. Whatever. It is a junky, sleazy, dive cafe which specializes in serving the locals. They seem to like it. I only ended up paying $5.98 plus tax for my meal, and also won $12 on the $20 free play credit I had from spinning the wheel. So I guess I actually made out. I also smelled like smoke afterwards; and my clothes still smelled like smoke three days later. You can't smoke in the cafe, but you can in the casino. Their ventilation system in the casino is poor. I have been to may casinos, large and small, in Nevada, and none made me smell like cigarette smoke this badly after. read more
