Came across this food truck at the Jazz On The Hill community event in San Mateo this past weekend. Ordered the gyro quesadilla filled with cheddar/jack cheese and gyro meat (the other option on the menu chicken shawarma). There was no line, instant service, and my order was ready in just a few minutes. The quesadilla was very flat, noticeably so (to someone who eats a lot of quesadillas from different places), but there was indeed a layer of meat and cheese in there and it was still satisfying. The gyro meat was tasty, nicely seasoned, more flavorful than what I've gotten at most other similar eateries, even if the meat was cut fairly thin. read more

The gyro meat and falafels were super flavorful and cooked perfect, the sauces and toppings were all super fresh and packed with flavor, and the owner and staff were all so nice and friendly. Falafel Fresh--what a friendly food truck! If it's not obvious from the name, this neon green truck offers falafel and other Mediterranean eats, which I got to try at the College of San Mateo Farmers' Market! The namesake menu item was the falafel, of course, which I got on a plate along with hummus, whole wheat pita, and a simple salad of lettuce, tomato, and parsley. The falafel balls were freshly fried and tasty (though not particularly memorable), and the hummus that came on the side had a thick, dense texture. I loved how the plate also came with a small side of tahini sauce, which made for a nice creamy dressing for the salad! But even better than the falafel was the gyro sandwich, made of slices of beef/lamb gyro topped with onions, lettuce, tomatoes, and the best part, tzatziki sauce, all on a whole wheat pita bread. I loved the combination of the chewy flatbread, the salty gyro slices, the crunchy vegetables, and the creamy, tangy tzatziki sauce, which brought everything together! While the prices at Falafel Fresh weren't the cheapest for the portion sizes, this was definitely one tasty stop at the farmers' market! read more

Tried the food today and it was ok. The lady who runs the food truck is sooo RUDE! She was yelling at her young employee while he was cooking in front of me. Her mean face expressions while she made my gyro was a big turn off. Apparently another reviewer had the same experience with this lady. The old man who runs it was very nice and sweet though. He needs to get rid of her or she needs to work behind the scenes where she's not dealing with customers. read more

This food truck took part in our annual company party. I must say, they have probably one of the best falafel in the Bay Area. Not greasy or tiny (like falafel drive in), really crunchy exterior, with a moist and very flavor rich interior. I'm not an expert, but this guy is doing it right! This is a tent that pops up at farmers' markets around San Jose. I ran into them at the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center last Wednesday. These guys offer a falafel sandwich for $7. I decided that I wanted to down some meat, so I ordered the gyro for $8. My friend ordered the four falafel balls, which seemed pretty dang pricey at $5. Not sure if the cashier was on his game but I actually had to ask him about how to pay for my order after I walked off to wait without paying up. Also, he didn't fill out a ticket for my friend's order, so we waited an unnecessarily long time. After sitting down to eat, I sampled one ball from my friend's falafel order. It was pretty good. I wouldn't say it's necessarily better or worse than other falafels out there, but it's cool that they can make this out of a tent. As for my gyro, I did enjoy most of the ingredients, but the mint was overpowering and spoiled the experience. If they're going to charge me a higher price than brick-and-mortar eateries (for example, the large falafel sandwich at Falafel's Drive-In is $5.75), then they need to deliver something comparable or better, and I don't think I quite received that kind of food. Give them a try though. Maybe you'll like it. read more

One of my favorite places to eat. Too bad they are only here (at the Evergreen Farmer's Market) on Wednesdays and Sundays. The number one thing that I like about eating here is that it is a family owned restaurant, so they always remember the way I like my falafel sandwich. I order it without tahini, but sub it for tzaziki and I like it extra spicy. They make your food on spot, so it is always warm when you get your meal. They also offer samples of different foods that they sell to try for yourself before ordering. Their prices are good at only $5-6 a sandwich. This truck came to my office for lunch today and I LOVE Gyros so I thought I'd give it a shot. While it wasn't necessarily bad, I had high expectations and I'm not sure if it was worth the $14.00 I spent. I got the lamb and beef Gyro ($9) and an order of fries ($4). The Gyro pita was super soft as expected, had a decent portion of meat but the tzatziki was too minty for my liking. Also, I have a huge pet peeve about burnt french fries, especially since they are so easy to cook geez! I will say that everything did taste fresh which is their promise and the staff were extremely nice and friendly. They gave me several suggestions, my food was ready fast and they take ATM which is convenient. I give Falafel Fresh 3 stars. 1 For the food, 2 for the awesome service, but I cant say I'd run out to the parking lot again the next time they show up. read more

They used to drop by during lunch hours in the North San Jose area near Pay-Pal. I never missed this truck as they used to stop by only on Fridays (this is before Covid). Best Chicken Shawarma ever eaten, really simple ingredients nothing too fancy but bursting with flavor from the well seasoned chicken and garlic sauce. Everything came together well: chicken tastefully marinated, garlic spread, a pickle spear, tomoatoes, and a couple french fries. I would not order the gyro because the meat does not come off a gyro spit. Owner and cooks are friendly. This was the BEST falafel I have ever tasted, and I've lived in NYC and had falafels up and down the left and right coast! Ibrahim the owner attributes the unique taste to his method of making the tahini sauce, with toasted ground hulled sesame seeds. Was craving for Falafels, but too lazy to go to Falafels Drive In. So I decided to give this place a try. The Falafels balls are good, but I'm not sure if its my sandwich but it is SUPER sour (overdid on the lemon juice/sauce maybe?) that I couldn't taste the rest of the ingredients. Now my stomach feels weird. Too much acid. Price-wise, it is $7 for a Falafels sandwich here. Falafels Drive In is $8 for a large Falafels sandwich and a Banana shake! This is by far the very best Falafel I have ever had...ever. The owner, Ibrahim Hamanjy is so sweet, and enthusiastic about his passion for his food. I had a falafel sandwich and a vegan soup (lentil, but I can't remember the name of it now). They were both SO fantastic, I bought another sandwich for dinner tonight. I discovered them on the new Friday Farmers market on the corner of Curtner and Meridian in a church parking lot. The food was so incredible, I cannot begin to describe it. Fresh parsely, toasted sesame seeds, tzatzki, tahini to die for. The falafel are perfect, and I will drive all over San Jose, to find him at different farmers markets.
