Swiss Chard Soup
Ee Vonn Y.

Swiss chard soup $7 - New item, vegan, warm, comforting, thick, filled with beans, chard. Falafels $11 (4 pieces) - The reason they say they don't sell this a la carte anymore because they lose money apparently, and the cook doesn't like cooking falafels (but it's the name of your truck?). It's really good. Will come back for their other vegan items - Babaganoush, hummus, salad.

Got the Gyro Quesadilla which was really good. Also delicious hummus. Thank you for making the farmers market even better.

Gyro Sandwich

Falafel Fresh--what a friendly food truck! If it's not obvious from the name, this neon green truck offers falafel and other Mediterranean eats, which I got to try at the College of San Mateo Farmers' Market! The namesake menu item was the falafel, of course, which I got on a plate along with hummus, whole wheat pita, and a simple salad of lettuce, tomato, and parsley. The falafel balls were freshly fried and tasty (though not particularly memorable), and the hummus that came on the side had a thick, dense texture. I loved how the plate also came with a small side of tahini sauce, which made for a nice creamy dressing for the salad! But even better than the falafel was the gyro sandwich, made of slices of beef/lamb gyro topped with onions, lettuce, tomatoes, and the best part, tzatziki sauce, all on a whole wheat pita bread. I loved the combination of the chewy flatbread, the salty gyro slices, the crunchy vegetables, and the creamy, tangy tzatziki sauce, which brought everything together! While the prices at Falafel Fresh weren't the cheapest for the portion sizes, this was definitely one tasty stop at the farmers' market!

This picture doesn't do mana bread justice

Oh man the mana bread is the best I've had around these parts. Have you been to Reem's and had her za'atar man'oushe? This is shockingly better than Reem's! Falafel Fresh makes mana bread using whole wheat. It is incredibly delicious and healthy. Tastes fresh out of the oven. I was skeptical at first but man, I am sold. I can't wait to go back and have the falafel wrap!

One of my favorite places to eat. Too bad they are only here (at the Evergreen Farmer's Market) on Wednesdays and Sundays. The number one thing that I like about eating here is that it is a family owned restaurant, so they always remember the way I like my falafel sandwich. I order it without tahini, but sub it for tzaziki and I like it extra spicy. They make your food on spot, so it is always warm when you get your meal. They also offer samples of different foods that they sell to try for yourself before ordering. Their prices are good at only $5-6 a sandwich. They also offer gyros, soups, and different plate options. I would definitely recommend checking this place out!

Order up!

I've literally eaten a hundred of this mans Falafels and Gyros, and help sell a thousand more to friends and family by bringing them to his stand. His food is great! Only problem is (and the only reason I'm only giving 4 stars) he's barely been around our market lately, and seems sporadic at others. We look forward to his falafel, only to end up giving our business to the Mexican food stand or the someone else, wishing we were eating FRESH FALAFEL! Come back to CHAMPS more consistently please, or better yet, open a small Falafel shop that never moves :) Add me as a friend if you "Feel" my review!

My friend suggest we meet at the Sage Cafe for lunch, located inside the Carson Tahoe Hospital. I've been here before, and liked it, so I wasn't surprised at wanting to have lunch at a hospital! He said they opened the wok stir fry station that was closed for a long time. He said it was really good and you get to make up you own wok fry my just checking off on a list of ingredients of what you want. We meet up there, you just have to sign in at the front desk as you enter first. The inside looks same as it always did, open and clean. We go over to the stir fry station on the back to the right. For $8.65 you get to pick out all the stuff you want, no limit, but I do think they go my total weight, so like if you pick 2 meats, you get less of each one, still generous with the stuff you pick though. We just filled out the little forms, circling what we wanted. They even offered shrimp for no extra cost. You won't get that in any Chinese restaurant! I got shrimp for my protein and the chef put a ton of it in! My friend had a combo of chicken and shrimp. We watched as the chef tossed our stuff in the air in the wok. They run induction burners, so no giant flames ... prob a good thing inside a hospital! Our food is served in to go boxes, no plates here. Wow, the food was super scrumptious, I liked our selection of ingredients. I'd say with this wok stir fry station open now, get yourself over here and have lunch. It starts at 11 am. $8.65 with no tax is way cheaper than any Chinese restaurant these days!

I had a cup of their clam chowder as a starter (I was starving) and it was easily the best chowder I've had outside of San Francisco and Seattle. My main was their French dip. It was piled high with thinly shaved beef and cheese. Would definitely recommend. My wife enjoyed her salmon and eggs Benedict. I tried a bit of it and thought the salmon had fantastic flavor. It grossed me out so much that every bite I was looking for hair! Then while the food came out and the waitress was serving she accidentally gave a plate of food to the wrong person. When it was discovered the waitress offered the plate to the correct person stating "he only took a couple of bites"! We all sat there in disbelief. The restaurant remade the dish to say the least. The food was tasty but the service was extremely slow. We arrived at 6pm and our food was served at 7pm. Question: would I go back byes, but I would check to see if the cooks were properly protested from hair dropping in my food.

Finally, I just ordered the 18" tuna sub as we pulled into the parking lot of Capriotti's. Then we realized we had ordered a Turkey sub, not tuna. We told young girl behind the counter that we had difficulty ordering using the app and had tried to order a tuna sandwich but had instead ordered a turkey. Although her face was unreadible, we hoped she understood to CANCEL the turkey sandwich in lieu of a tuna sandwich. I was still so upset over the app and then ordering the wrong sandwich, I left to sit in the car. My husband comes out with the salad I wanted but TWO sandwiches: a tuna AND A TURKEY. A $30+ dinner became $60+ because staff did not amend the turkey sandwich into a tuna AND my husband accepted both sandwiches. I don't say never, but it will be some time before we purchase another sandwich from the Carson City Capriotti location.

The poached eggs were done perfectly and the English muffins were not burnt. (I have, unfortunately, experienced that before at another location.) My sister's breakfast was the corn beef hash, which really did look homemade, (unlike another restaurant in the area that served me what I believed was canned corn beef hash with almost soup texture.) her fruit was ripe. I do believe she very much enjoyed the breakfast. I may not be 100% correct on this, but I was rather disappointed in the hollandaise, it was a bit 'flat'. As far as I can tell, it was not true hollandaise. Most probably it was an egg Béchamel. It had a very creamy texture, a small tendency to congeal on the top, and lacked the bright zing of lemon and buttery texture and flavor of true hollandaise. Indicators, its lack of a slightly translucent and glossy finish, the lack of the acidity of lemon juice or vinegar, and did not weep butter, but instead seem to thicken and form a slight crust as I finished the Benedicts. The egg, Benedict were very tasty, but the hollandaise sauce with disappointing. (I really do like a good hollandaise.)

Our server brought waters and later took drink orders, but there wasn't much communication about timing or whether they were short staffed. Once we placed our order, we waited close to an hour for our food. We completely understand that restaurants can get busy and staffing can be tight -- we just would have appreciated a quick update along the way. A little communication goes a long way and helps set expectations. When our food arrived, part of the order was incorrect (we had requested a salad and soup substitution but only received fries). The server corrected it, and the food itself was good. It did come out at different times, and we noticed another table seated after us received their food much sooner, which was a bit confusing.
