We went to the Carson City Mall to find out our little sandwich shop was closed and I noticed Don Chepe was open with lunch specials on their sandwich board so I said let's try it. They brought us chips nice and fluffy texture along with Salas and bean dip so far so good! Then we ordered two Cadillac Margaritas on the rocks which were delightful. My fiancé ordered the birria plate with rice, beans, and consomé, while I had the green shredded beef enchiladas with rice and beans. We also shared a mixed pupusa filled with pork and beans. The food was very flavorful, and we received our meals surprisingly fast. The customer service was excellent -- our server was so friendly and attentive. Well this was my first time at this new restaurant in Carson City and it wasn't bad. The place is spacious with plenty of seating and also a bar area with television screens ( which I think would be cool to watch sports when they get drinks to serve). That being said, it's so new they are still waiting for their alcohol license to be able to serve drinks. My party had 3 of us total and we're at down immediately. We were served chips and salsa which I have to say the salsa was very good. We ordered our plates of food and got our food. The food tasted good and all of us were full. It wasn't anything amazing, but wasn't bad either. It was good food for the price point. The portions were decent and tasted good. I'd say everyone should go give it a try! It will probably better once they get their alcohol license where people can hang out at the bar and watch sports or have a drink with their meals. Don Chepe is one of the newer Mexican places in Carson City. We were very excited to try it and we were hopeful it would be the new go-to. We went during the week for dinner and were sat right away. The service was very very good. Our waitress was nice and checked on us multiple times during our meal. We got enchiladas and a chorizo burrito. The burrito was really good but the enchiladas were so-so. It seems like everything was mediocre and didn't have a ton of flavor. I was disappointed with the beans and rice. Both were just really lacking flavor which was sad because that's usually my favorite part of eating out at a Mexican restaurant. We shared a flan at the end and it was really yummy and a decent portion. We did have an issue with the check, the price we were charged was a few dollars more per item than what was on the menu. The server was able to correct it so it wasn't a big deal, good thing we were paying attention. With so much competition in town we aren't sure if we'll be back. read more

They were cooked perfectly nice & crispy, plenty of Birria meat in them. The guac was really solid too. It had real avocado chunks, it wasn't fake, it also had pico in it, very good. The chips were very fresh, not gross greasy chips either. I will order from here again, & probably more than I did from the old restaurant that was here. What a disaster! We went into Don Chepe Restaurant last Saturday night. Three adults and 2 young children. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The lack of customers should have been the first clue.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I did not check Yelp before going. We were eventually seated and drink orders were taken. So far, not too bad. Then chips and two bowls of bean dip were served. One bean dip was cold and resembled something dumped from a can. The other was liquid, not totally cold, but would not adhere to the chips. Excessive liquid. Yuk! A while later (and I do mean later) the adult plates started arriving. The orders were correct, but at least one plate of enchiladas was barely warm. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ok. I'll be tolerant, it was mine. Then the of children's meals arrived, a plain hamburger with fries. Ok! That's what he wanted. We continued to wait for the last child's plate to arrive. Quesadillas. How long should that take to prepare? It was a MINIMUM of 6-7 minutes before he was finally served. Ok, everyone was able to eat. Of course, waiting for all meals to get on the table so we could eat together caused the first arrivals to be barely warm. Ok, we all ate in our quiet dimly-lit corner close to the kitchen and restroom hallway. A wonderful ambiance for a (over) $100 meal[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. Then the check arrived! After delays in getting our food, minimal cursory service, and mild frustration at the way the evening was going, I looked over the itemized ticket. What a shock! More than $15 was added as a gratuity. Not a suggestion.... A line item added to the check. Enough was enough.... I approached the cashier to determine the reason for the addition. He stated that it was their policy to add the gratuity for a party of 4 or more! Force customers to pay for a less than mediocre dining experience; definitely not part of a successful business plan! In my experience, a gratuity is just that..... acknowledgement for quality food and recognition for the server's efforts. To say the least, after my complaining about the fee, it was deleted from the check. I did leave a cash gratuity at the table, considerably less than what was initially tacked on for obvious reasons. It is not my purpose to run customers away from the Don Chepe Restaurant. I believe the management should review some of the practices being used and definitely take a look at the quality (or lack thereof) of the services being rendered while improvements can be made. For those deciding to eat at Don Chepe, good luck. I hope your experience is much more rewarding than ours. I waited almost a week to write this review in order to ensure I did not write a mean spirited litany of complaints. And no..... I am not a competitor trying to devalue another's business. read more

I ordered two 3 crispy taco dinner specials through DoorDash. The carnitas tacos order had three pieces of bone in the meat in two out of three tacos. One piece was the size of a nickle and had sharp edges...definitely a choking hazard. I resolved through DoorDash but called the restaurant to give them a heads up. The lady who answered didn't seem concerned at all, nor even offered a resolution. She said okay, I'll let them know after I told her she should probably tell the chefs to check the meat. Just seems a bit concerning and I don't think I will order the carnitas again. This is only my second time trying them. Overall the food is good though and I liked the birria. Had lunch here on Tuesday around 11:30am. I was the first in our part of 4 to arrive. I was immediately greeted and taken to a booth. Service was great and once everyone arrived we placed our orders (all from the lunch special board). Food came out quick and was tasty. The bill came to just under $40 for four lunch specials, everyone drank water. That is quite a deal these days. I'm knocking down one star as the chips are not my favorite. At here February 16 25. Ordered chile ribs and got served chile verde. I questioned the waitress, who insisted it was chile ribs, people just don't like the bone so that's why it's that way. I said these are tomatillos, not red chile like I'm accustomed to with New Mexican chile ribs, and she said it was a guerro chile, a blonde Anaheim (no such thing). When the bill came it said Chile verde. Treated us like ignorant gringos, and we are from New Mexico. My sister and I was curious about this place a couple of weeks ago and decided to try it. It is located where Francisco's used to be (which was actually good). Ok, so we get in there and our experience was subpar. Food was slop and the lady who waited on us acted very weird and spacey. Seemed to be in a hurry to get us out of there rather than letting us relax with our mediocre meals. Stood at the register to pay and waited there for what seemed like an eternity and had to run to the back to find someone to tend to it. My husbands pork carnitas was tuff and tasteless. He could not even eat his so took it home and Through it all the way. Only good thing I can say is the service was ok. I thought I'd DoorDash some Don Chepe for the first time. I ordered a pupusa and a chimichanga. The pupusa was okay, but the beef chimichanga was mostly tortilla which was extremely greasy. There was a layer of grease in the bottom of my to-go box. I took one bite, and then proceeded to open the chimichanga and eat the small amount of meat out of the center. The rice was fine, but the beans had a soupy consistency. Usually, I have leftovers, but I basically threw this meal in the trash. A big waste of money. This a is a first time business for this family run restaurant. Previously Francisco's. Went here for lunch. Menu is temporary and short. If you don't see it on the menu, ask. They will make it. Best quesabirria tacos in town, meat was juicy and seasoned. Consomme was delicious and added to the quesabirria. Salsa was fresh. Chicken was grilled and seasoned for all dishes. Great guacamole- large size was large,blended with spices and pico de gallo. ( not on menu) Service was great, will be coming again.
