Kids' menu chicken tenders and fries
Lola M.

While visiting from Las Vegas, we decided to sample Maria's Mexican Restaurant and I am so very glad we did!! The restaurant is a "mom and pop" place in a strip mall...but the food is IMPECCABLE. The gracious hostess seated us and we were addressed and our orders taken within minutes. The menu selections are plentiful and EVERYTHING is homemade: tortillas, salsa, sauces---every bite I tasted was better than the last. I felt welcomed and comfortable and they even let my octogenarian mother order the kids' menu chicken tenders.... The restaurant has a festive ambiance and it was very clean and tidy. I highly recommend this establishment if you're looking for delicious, filling food.

We came here about 4:30pm on a Saturday afternoon. It was not very busy and they have about 15 tables inside. We were greeted by two young ladies who brought us menus, waters and chips and salsa. We each looked through the menu and my wife decided to order the chicken, steak and shrimp fajitas. I ordered the burrito. We both really enjoyed the salsa and warm chips while our orders were being prepared. Our orders arrived and looked yummy! My wife really enjoyed the fajitas and my burrito was just okay. Overall it was a good experience.

We timed our meals wrong today and needed a quick go to for late lunch in north Carson. I remembered my friend Mike recently wrote a nice Yelp review for Las Maria's. So off we went! I am lousy with introductions and socializing in general. I blame it on the fact that I was a detective back east for years, which can be a very anti-social existence. Today, I believe we met Maria, a very head strong, straight forward woman. Turns out she's also a very friendly host. We ate for 15-20 minutes and chatted for 45. Of the many things I learned, Maria can sing and dj, plus, they have karaoke every Friday. All the food here is authentic, hand prepared. Safe to say, we made each other's day. Being not terribly creative, my wife and I ordered #7's. That's two enchiladas (with chicken), beans and rice. The food was terrific. The iced tea even better. The conversation, the best. Thanks Mike and Yelp. The more places we learn about and familiarize ourselves with, the better. We now have a definite go to diner in this area and a new friend, to boot! 10/21

Chimichanga

Was in the town with the family when we came across Maria's Mexican Restaurant since it was close and open. Thank god we came because we were very hungry and the food was authentic and delicious!! Also loved the vibe of the place and the Day of the Dead Sugar Skull decorations they had hanging up. I went ahead and ordered the Carnitas Chimichanga with a Cazuela and a Molcajete. Beyond my tastebud expectations. The Cazuela was made to perfection with the right amount of mixture with alcohol and my chimichanga had me doing the happy dance in my chair from how good it was. Definitely a hidden gem of a restaurant here in Carson City. One bad thing I would say is the service did take quite a while but other than that. Very, very good! Thank you!

I had some other business in this strip mall shopping center at Winnie and Carson street and it was a little early for lunch, but I thought I'd try this little hole in the wall Mexican restaurant. It's so "hole in the wall" that having lived here in Carson for years, I've never really noticed it, and it's been here for a long time. Entering I could tell this place had an authentic feel, not like some chain place or Chipotle. Empty when I arrived before normal lunch hours, but I was seated promptly and brought comp chips and salsa. I saw they have lunch specials and the price seemed right for these days with most items priced at $9.99. I decided on the Chimichanga which I haven't had in years. Mostly these days I've been having hand held burritos, so this was a change up. The rest of the menu was quite diverse with many items not offered at most Mexican restaurants. I'll have to come back and try other stuff on the menu later. The Chimichanga arrives, cut in two garnished with lettuce. The flour tortilla was deep fried crispy and the al pastor pork filling with rice and beans was quite tasty and had a very Mexican flavor, as opposed to some more Americanized places I've been. The al pastor was on the spicy side, but good. It's a pretty huge portion, so I took home half, but if you're a big eater, you might finish it all. One thing to know, is a 15% service charge (tip) is included in the bill. If you want to leave more, you can , just be aware 15% is already included. I leave more usually. I'll come back here with friends for sure!

Bright cute place .. picking up for work lunch .. I'm excited !! First time here

I ordered the 1 dozen oysters, clam linguine, and house salad. Oysters -- 7/10 The oysters were really fresh and shucked right in front of you, which was definitely a plus. They were a little too big for my liking and had a creamier texture than I prefer, but overall they were good. Clam Linguine -- 7/10 The linguine was solid. The portion was decent, and I liked the combination of clams, lemon, garlic, and Parmesan. Nothing that completely blew me away, but still a good dish. Might pass on the parmesan next time because it clunked up as it melted in the dish. House Salad The salad was actually pretty good and surprisingly large for a house salad. Fresh lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, olives, and plenty of croutons. Overall, everything is prepared fresh right in front of you, which I really enjoyed. The oysters being freshly shucked definitely added to the experience. The wait wasn't terrible, and if you're an oyster or seafood fan, it's worth stopping by while you're in Tahoe. Overall: 7/10 thank youuuu

Large old farmhouse converted to 5 or so pleasant old fashion feeling individual dining areas…read more Small outdoor patio area. The indoor dining areas on the front get a view through the curtains of the parking lot. The one in the back and partly the one on the South side have nice territorial views. Nice bar area but no views to speak of but there is a glass door to the parking lot so not a total cave. So your view (if any) can vary greatly depending on where you are seated. Huge menu with most every protein including steak and a variety of seafood. Prices mostly ranging in the $35-50 range seem steep for an upscale but casual restaurant in Carson City. The few entrees below $35 bottom out at ~$28 for pasta/chicken. With an appetizer and a drink or two (or a dessert in lieu of drinks) you could easily get up into the $80+ per person range. Unlike many other fine restaurants, a gourmet burger is conspicuously missing on the menu. The wine by the glass list is gigantic. My glass smelled like it was at the cusp of starting to turn. Maybe a drawback of offering so many different wines by the glass. Food is solid, very good but a bit short of what I would describe as "memorable." Steak and fish were cooked well. Warm sourdough bread wrapped in paper was nice. Side dishes are basic uninspired choices (potatoes, rice, veggies.) My Caesar was carpeted in cheese, and it included quite a bit of Romaine leaf not just the hearts like other restaurants. The dressing was average for a Caesar. I only mention this because they advertise their Caesar as being "Famous" Service was very good although a bit slow on drinks. Wine pours were average at best. On the spectrum of good, very good, outstanding, I'd describe the food and overall experience as very good. 4 stars on atmosphere (more if you get a view table), 4 on service, 4-1/4 stars on the food, 3-1/2 stars on value = 4 stars overall. For steakhouse fans with deep pockets or less price sensitive on a special occasion, 5 stars may be reasonable even though something like a Texas Roadhouse may be the better value. However, compared to many similar establishments at this price point I've eaten at in the past, I feel 5 stars would be a bit overrated.

Service: Friendly but somewhat disorganized, possibly because we had a large group. The waitress initially told me the bartender was busy, but later realized she had never entered my drink order. She apologized and removed it from the bill. She also brought the wrong entrée for one of my friends but corrected it promptly. On a positive note, she graciously accommodated another friend's custom drink request even though it wasn't on the menu. Chips & Salsa: The first basket is complimentary. We were told additional baskets normally have a charge, but during our visit we were offered unlimited refills. Food: Fresh, authentic, and generously portioned. Smear the garlic across the buttered bread and you have a better start than most Italian restaurants in town...! Calamari Fritto was crisp and well seasoned. Both sauces earned their spot on the plate and were devoured evenly between my wife and I. We both ordered the Homestyle Lasagna. It is one of the better versions on this menu, rich with sausage, beef, ricotta, mozzarella, and Bolognese, and large enough that we each boxed about half for later. That is not a complaint. The problem is the building, not the kitchen. Ti Amo sits inside Casino Fandango. You walk a smoky gaming floor to get there. We use the closest door we can find and move through quickly. Once you are seated, the smoke smell drops off. You walk it again on the way out. If that bothers you, plan the route and do not linger. Pro-tip: Reserve ahead.

I travel to Europe often, and I was born and raised there, so my bar for Italian food is high. The staff was friendly and seated us in a booth next to the bar. The place was clean, with a couple of exceptions. The table was wet, and the menus stuck to it, which my wife found a little gross. The music was also loud for a restaurant, though we eventually tuned it out. We started with the burrata plate. It was flavorful, but small -- maybe an ounce or two -- and I would have liked a more generous portion for the price. My biggest complaint: for what the menu costs, there is no complimentary table bread. I asked and was told I could order some, which I wasn't happy about. We ended up getting the cast-iron focaccia so we could soak up the leftover pesto and olive oil from the burrata. It was okay, a little greasy, and not worth the extra charge. My wife ordered the chicken sandwich with fries. It was fresh and tasty, and the fries came out piping hot, which kept the plate from feeling like it had been sitting. I ordered the stuffed ravioli. They also came out hot, and the portion was better than I expected from photos online -- more than the three or so I was worried about. The filling and sauce were underseasoned, though, and I had to add a fair amount of salt. Overall, it wasn't worth the cost. Lunch for two came to about $100 (no alcohol), which is more than we've spent for lunch on Lake Como, where the food was better and table bread wasn't an extra. I probably won't go back. The quality, value, and overall experience didn't match the price.
