If you're not familiar with Indonesian cuisine they'll walk you through it. The man working the grill noticed I ordered tofu and checked into make sure any dietary restrictions were covered, I don't have any but it was a nice touch. He also made sure the spice level was what I wanted ahead of time. I can do spicy, but probably not Indo spicy, so he kept it within my limits. I got the lumpia and tofu/egg/rice entree whose name I cannot remember. Absolutely delicious. No qualifiers like "for Carson city" or "for a casino". It was really great. They also made their own (very) hot sauce and riff on Chinese mustard. Both great. Way more than I could finish so they boxed it up beautifully. Then whammo, a surprise fruit salad for palate cleanser/dessert. Love it. Note: they have real sugar Pepsi. Whole heartedly recommend

It's just a small grill with Tee Jay and another cook behind the flat top, but the vibe is warm and playful. They chatted with us while cooking, shared a bit about Indonesian flavors and what to expect, and made the whole thing feel welcoming -- like being fed by friends instead of ordering at a counter. I had the smash burger -- crispy edges, juicy, simple, and really satisfying. My husband got the shroom burger and loved it -- super garlicky and savory. The surprise for me was their ranch blue made with Gorgonzola. I usually don't like blue cheese, but this was creamy, mellow, and honestly delicious. I kept dipping my fries in it. Nothing fancy, just honest comfort food made with care and genuinely kind people. If you're passing through Carson City and want something local and heartfelt instead of chain food, this little spot is absolutely worth the stop. We'd happily go back.

So, my local friend wanted to take me to this Thai restaurant right down on the main street in downtown, if Carson has an actual downtown that is. We got parking right in front of the place on the main street. Inside is nice and elegant in a Thai kinda way. Nicer than a casual mom and pop Thai joint. We get seated at a nice table near the front. My friend already knows the menu, so I go with hos suggestion for the Lunch special Duck with sauce over rice. It's $22 bucks, so it better be good! He has the Thai battered salmon for around $19. Soup is included and it's just a veggie broth, though tasty. Then our lunch specials come out. Oh wow, that duck look really good. It's totally deboned, so no messing with bones at all. The sauce was super tasty. My friend said he thinks its some sort of duck juice reduction with other added stuff. Whatever, this was one of the most tasty duck dishes I've ever had. His salmon was unique, I never saw a dish like that made with salmon. The coating was very unique and crispy and the salmon not over cooked. Overall, I really liked this place. I think my crew is having lunch at one of the local casinos, I'd rather be here!

The bill came to $80 which I felt was kinda steep for 3 items, especially in Carson City. The restaurant is located on a street where there was very limited parking in front and all the rear parking is super dark so bring your night vision goggles. At least there's plenty of parking spots. When I walked in, I was surprised to see Caucasian staff members! Well I guess this isn't that different than Panda Express where you have hispanics in the front and the 1 token asian in the back cooking. I picked up my food and was pleasantly surprised to find the dishes were pretty loaded. I started dipping into my duck curry and OMG it was probably the best I've had. Not only was the flavor amazing and spiced just right, but there was a generous amount of duck! When I went to eat dim sum recently and ordered roast duck, I got a plate of duck that was mostly skin and bones. Here they actually de-boned the meat so you're getting nice chunks of flavorful, meaty duck along with fresh chunks of pineapple, tomatoes, and spices with that yummy curry over my caucasian rice (I like to be culturally sensitive). Even my wife that don't like duck really enjoyed this. So while $80 for 3 dishes may seem a bit high, it was worth it. I really enjoyed my meal here and my kids also ate all their noodles with enough leftovers for lunch the next day.

Between the incredibly friendly staff, the reasonable prices, and the quality of the food, I find myself genuinely disappointed on the rare occasion I visit South Lake Tahoe without stopping by. I consistently start with the avocado egg rolls, which are essentially the stuff of dreams back home in the Bay Area. They are indulgent, perfectly textured, and a total highlight of the meal. On cold days, the shrimp tom yum is my go to order. The broth is so delicious that my family and I have been known to actually fight over the last drop. While I personally find the tofu a bit too understated for my taste, every other dish has been a total star. The pad thai, pad see ew, drunken noodles, and the various curries--especially the green curry--are all exceptional. I have also ventured into the basil protein and eggplant dishes and found them to be just as incredible. I cannot recommend this place enough and want to thank the owners for providing so many years of wonderful food and memories.

Time for an update, basically a duplicate review. At least they are consistent, lol…read more This was our 5 star Chinese to-go food from a year or two ago, and it was take-out only at that time. Quality/Quantity - 5 stars when we first discovered this place a year or two ago. Today it was a 4 star experience, as it was too soy saucy and salty for me. And I love soy sauce and salt!! Combo Chow Mein - Generous portions. Had at least 4 shrimps. I also really like the cuts of their meats, both the chicken and beef were thinly cut and tender. They sell boba drinks, donuts, Vietnamese and Chinese food... etc. They also have a very limited dim sum menu. They also have a lunch menu. Atmosphere - Small local business, sit down is now reopened. Open 6 days a week from 6am to 9pm; closed Sunday. Yelp and their menu hours differ a little. So call to confirm... Plenty of parking. Service - Good, we have only ever done take-out here. They seem to have a very good take-out business, but I am patient. Price - As you can see from my 1-5 year old menu pictures, prices have gone up from $10 to $16 for my combo chow mein meal. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success at this location for 14+ years. I look forward to trying your donuts and Vietnamese food in the future.

So, my friend suggest dropping by China Jade Horse here, cause they have a little known, killer deal on fried rice! Most of the prices here seemed to me a little on the high side, like there was one seafood fried rice that was close to $17 bucks, but they have this simple egg fried rice for just $6.95! You can't hardly get anything full order on any menu for $6.95 these days! We just happen to be in the Topsy Lane Shopping center area and Jade Horse is right in there, basically next to the In N Out. Easy parking, we went around noon. My friend ordered 2 orders of the egg fried rice and the total came out to just under $15 with tax. All the other fried rice options with meat included were almost double the price! Got it to go and off we go. The bag felt heavy! Service was fast! Getting back to the house, my friend had some fancy chili oil she added to it as well as some more green onions. Dished out for lunch and wow that was some tasty fried rice. It had that wok seared flavor like a good burger has that grill flavor. The chili oil added just the right amount of spicy. So, for just $7.00 bucks and order that feeds at least 2-3 people, that's a deal! I hear the rest of teh food there at Jade Horse is very good, but a little more on the spendy side. Glad I found out about this egg fried rice. See the menu pic for the fried rice prices!
