    Spicy Basil Lunch
    Susan P.

Found ourselves in Carson and looking for some lunch, and The Basil sounded good. Popped in at lunch time and order a couple lunch specials: DH had the basil chicken wide noodle and I had a chicken/shrimp spicy with fried rice. A delicious lunch, beautifully decorated restaurant and good service. Would go back and try the other specials....

    12. Papaya Salad - 5, no peanuts ($13.95)

Date: Monday, November 3rd, 2025 Time: around 12:45pm Party of: 2 Meal: Lunch Takeaway 12. Papaya Salad - 5, no peanuts ($13.95) L-5 Kapow (Basil) - Ground Chicken, 5 ($14.95) L-11 Green Curry - Chicken, Brown Rice, 5 ($15.95) L-15 Pad Thai - Chicken & Shrimp, 3 ($15.95) The hubby had to run to Carson City for an errand so I asked him to pick up lunch. This Thai spot seemed popular, so we decided to check them out. He walked in and placed the order. I wanted the papaya salad and green curry. The curry had a nice consistency. Clung well to the brown rice. The salad dressing I found rather sweet in their lunch specials, so I added hot sauce to cut into it. The papaya salad was mixed well and had a nice texture. I tend to like my thai food with lots of heat, so I found everything rather mild for their highest spice level. The hubs thought he was ordering a normal portion of pad thai, but we ended up with the lunch special which was fine. He seemed to enjoy his two items as he finished them both. Not sure what Thai options are around in Carson City, but this is a solid spot for more milder flavors. REVIEW #3909

Wow! I am seriously amazed by this find in the middle of Carson City. This was the best Thai food I've ever had, I'm seriously, seriously amazed. Lovely date night ambiance feel, amazing presentation of food, and on top of that, the food tasted amazing!!! The curry and pad Thai was SO tasty and the right amount of savory and sweet. The mango was also surprisingly sweet. I'd drive all the way to Carson city just for this restaurant! Definitely going to come again. Service was also very friendly :)

Quality/Quantity - Came here for lunch today for my monthly (sometimes weekly) visits to Carson City; support local. Today we got the following lunch specials: Pork Pad Thai - Decent portion, okay flavors. Not as authentic as I expected, but still good. Nice to also have a soup which I gave to my wife. Not a soup drinker and this one I did not favor. And also a salad. My salad had the same/similar sauce/dressing as my Pad Thai. Chicken KraPow - My wife enjoyed this. She says it is what she usually gets/expects but it was missing the eggplant. Atmosphere - Good size location. Cool decor, see pictures. 2 hour street parking which was more than enough time for lunch. Open 6 days a week. Mondays to Fridays from 11am to 8:30pm, and on Saturday from 4pm to 9pm. Closed Sundays. Clean men's and women's restrooms. Service - 5 stars. Everyone was friendly and efficient. And such hard workers. Also great job with your menu with pictures. Price - $32 + tip. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 2004. You have a good team here; take care of the people that take care of you.

Saya, Saya, Saya...! One of our favorites of a myriad of amazing servers at The Basil. Ratree, Penny, Anya and Stacy are all wonderful too. They all work together to create an amazing culinary experience. As you sip water and/or wine / Thai beer that comes out right away, in the midst of a well decorated dining area with soft flute music in the background, you are treated to inspirational scents from other diner's previously ordered meals making you ravenous to get your own started! The crowd is always a mixture of people, young, old and in between. Sometimes a family dinner, sometimes a date-night, sometimes a birthday celebration, sometimes a business meeting. Regardless, I have never seen a disappointed face walking out of this place. Just smiles from the amazing food and epic service!

WOW!!!! This place will not disappoint! What I ordered; the fried spring rolls, Carson garlic chicken, silver noodles, spicy beef salad. Spring rolls are my favorite, I would have preferred a fresh spring roll, but these were super yummy as well, I just would have preferred fresh, which I didn't see on the menu. These came with a sweet plum type sauce that was very good. Silver noodles were great, they didn't have the same taste I am used to I think there was a fish sauce in these or an oyster sauce I didn't care for but my boyfriend loved them so we're still recommending them. They were cooked perfectly and all the veggies were done to perfection. My two favorite things the spicy beef salad & the Carson garlic chicken. May have been some of the best I have ever had. All the dishes are great for family style eating but that garlic chicken will NOT be shared next time. It came served with THE most beautiful spread of fresh blanched broccoli. Highly recommend all the dishes we had, and we both can't wait to come back. The vegetables in every dish were such a highlight almost as if the perfect noddles and perfect veggies were the meal with the meat being a topping. Everything was just so fresh! Only note, I am a spicy girl and level 3 spice was not enough for me. I asked for their chili oil to spic it up and that stuff was liquid gold! Next time I'll ask for level 5 spicy.

Look at this beautiful coconut ice cream. Presentation and very delicious.

A friend abd I went for lunch. We ordered Tom Yum soup but intended the white soup called Tom Ka? It was delicious. We had the pad thai lunch and it was so so. The noodles were not as good as other times. They were hard to eat. Hard to cut or roll up. Just not as good as previous visit.

    These were yummy too!

You can count on The Basil being an excellent meal! I always tell people this is the best Thai Food anywhere and I try it every where. So lucky to have it here in my home town of Carson City. You can not go wrong ordering any item! But certainly try the mango roll. If there are any left. The best mango and sticky rice as well!

The Basil is a tradition for our family every Christmas Eve. The food is delicious and the employees were super patient with the kids. The decor is gorgeous. When we visit Carson, the Basil is one of our go to spots!

Simple but very TASTY soup! (Served with lunch plate specials)

I can't believe I have never written a review. Specializing in Indonesian food with a western twist, Tee Jay is serving up great noodle dishes, burgers, cheesesteaks, hot dogs, and one of my new favorites, Loco Moco! The Krakatoa cheesesteak is one of my favorites. Thin-cut steak, cheese, and if you like spicy, it's even better! The loco moco is what I tried most recently, and I thought the portion size was great for the price. The classic noodle dishes like pad thai and the curries are also bomb. The ambiance here isn't the best since it's located on a casino floor; however, the classic counter diner has a special ambiance in and of itself. I almost always get food to-go from here. Tee Jay is always working at this place with a few assistants, and they are a truly kind and caring staff, wanting to make the best food for their guests. Give Tee Jay's a try, you won't regret it.

He also made sure the spice level was what I wanted ahead of time. I can do spicy, but probably not Indo spicy, so he kept it within my limits. I got the lumpia and tofu/egg/rice entree whose name I cannot remember. Absolutely delicious. No qualifiers like "for Carson city" or "for a casino". It was really great. They also made their own (very) hot sauce and riff on Chinese mustard. Both great. Way more than I could finish so they boxed it up beautifully. Then whammo, a surprise fruit salad for palate cleanser/dessert. Love it. Note: they have real sugar Pepsi. Whole heartedly recommend

It wasn't that bad, but it wasn't that great either. The tofu soup was solid. It hit all the right spots and was comfort food personified. Enjoyed it quite a bit. The portions were generous with plenty of leftovers to pack up in takeout boxes for enjoying for another day. My favorite three were the ahi tuna, the black cod and the brilliant asian/french mash up of red Bean Creme Brulee. I also need to mention, I loved the lamb tenderloin. I am not a big lamb fan, but this New Zealand lamb was tender and non-gamey. The owners did an outstanding job of timing the dishes and engaging with our group while also taking care of other diners including non event patrons getting getting take-out and inhouse menu dining. The space is very small, but even with and almost full house, it didn't feel cramped. To start, you can't go wrong with the enthusiastic welcome we always receive. Then quickly seated and wine poured. The 2026 CNY menu was fabulous, with some great surprises. The ahi tartare portion anywhere else would have been a shareable appetizer. But each person was served a large portion of delicious fresh ahi. Mmmm this course and a glass of wine could be dinner alone any other evening. The soft creamy rich egg custard was hidden under a thick seafood gravy. I really enjoyed this unique dish. The miso black cod is always flaky and delicious. And the crab fried rice it's nestled on also never disappoints. The rich New Zealand stir fried lamb and shiitake mushrooms over pea shoots was a fabulous hearty dish on this chilly March evening. The braised short ribs were so tender no knife was needed, they flaked apart with the fork. And the e mein noodles were perfectly al dente. The dinner wrapped up with a crème brûlée that only Kwok's could pull off - red bean. Creamy smooth. Not overwhelming. The perfect burnt sugar layer on top. The regular menu is just as delicious. Small inside seating area, so recommend always make a reservation. In the summer there's a fabulous patio area out front. Limited street parking.

The menu is full of cups of meat and not found at the other KBBQ restaurant and generally speaking quality is there on all of it. We enjoyed the birthday celebration here the other night, and discovered a few new favorites, including the pork GALBI, which is delicious, sweet, tender cuts of lean pork marinated in the sweet sowing which grows up wonderfully and delivers a nice char. I also am a huge fan of the Sydney slice of beef tongue that cooks chicken. Did that in a little bit of sesame oil salt or add a bit of the seasoning spice from your condiment tray and throw that in lettuce or radish wrap, and you are set. They also offer a couple of specialty cuts at dinner only like the thousand stripe and premium GALBI, which is a crosscut beef short rib. I personally think their short rib is the best in town as it comes out nicely marinated and extremely tender with just the right amount of fat versus some of the others that I've tried which have a substantial amount of fat versus meat. There was also a specialty cut of fatty pork that I cannot remember the Korean Nemo, but that took a long time to cook, even though it was in sliced, but then result was this delightfully crispy piece of meat that could be eaten on its own or added to another wrap that you were creating and was quite enjoyable. The reason for decreasing into four stars is just service. That's where the other KBBQ has this place beat. Part of a we were seated at two tables right next to each other and for some reason, it seemed one table received more attention than the other and after a point it seemed that the server just stopped coming back altogether, and they also forgot items multiple times throughout the meal left water glasses on filled and didn't clear place on the act. Normally not a big deal but you're consuming so much as a larger party and you're dealing with brought meat. You are putting your diners at risk for not helping to make sure that we maintain a clean and sanitary dining experience. Even to the end of the meal, the server did not come back to see if we wanted to order more food or bring us a check and I had to get up and go to the front to ask for it. Lastly, I was shocked that they did not have any hot sake in the restaurant to order nor did they offer any type of dessert either included or for purchase. We came to celebrate a birthday and can't be the only people that stop here for special occasions, so I would assume that there are people that want that when they're dying here and it was just surprising to hear that. Again, this is a great Korean barbecue spot and then I will certainly return to you and hope that the service experience improved so that the dining experience overall is that much better.
