I have a short layover here in Carson City and I gave my crew the afternoon off cause we just had to wait for a few things. So, my local friend wanted to take me to this Thai restaurant right down on the main street in downtown, if Carson has an actual downtown that is. We got parking right in front of the place on the main street. Inside is nice and elegant in a Thai kinda way. Nicer than a casual mom and pop Thai joint. We get seated at a nice table near the front. My friend already knows the menu, so I go with hos suggestion for the Lunch special Duck with sauce over rice. It's $22 bucks, so it better be good! He has the Thai battered salmon for around $19. Soup is included and it's just a veggie broth, though tasty. Then our lunch specials come out. Oh wow, that duck look really good. It's totally deboned, so no messing with bones at all. The sauce was super tasty. My friend said he thinks its some sort of duck juice reduction with other added stuff. Whatever, this was one of the most tasty duck dishes I've ever had. His salmon was unique, I never saw a dish like that made with salmon. The coating was very unique and crispy and the salmon not over cooked. Overall, I really liked this place. I think my crew is having lunch at one of the local casinos, I'd rather be here! read more

The Basil Restaurant was not on my regular route but it was well worth the detour! To start we had a complementary veggie soup with tofu. Lunch entrees come with a side salad topped with peanut sauce and a delicious wonton cracker. We tried the yellow curry and pad see ew and both were very good. Went to this restaurant today for dinner, I ordered the Garden Delight which was delicious!! All of the vegetables were cooked perfectly, and the broth in the bowl was wonderful. Came in for a quick dinner after a day of touring Tahoe and were amazed at the quality of food and the considerate service. We were told that they were out of the mango roll and when we were disappointed our server offered to go make a fresh one for us if we were willing to wait. Of course we were and so glad we did - it was amazing!! Highly recommend!! The coconut soup with rice was delicious and we finished off with mango sticky rice - a favorite Thai treat! This Thai spot seemed popular, so we decided to check them out. He walked in and placed the order. I wanted the papaya salad and green curry. The curry had a nice consistency. Clung well to the brown rice. The salad dressing I found rather sweet in their lunch specials, so I added hot sauce to cut into it. The papaya salad was mixed well and had a nice texture. I tend to like my thai food with lots of heat, so I found everything rather mild for their highest spice level. The hubs thought he was ordering a normal portion of pad thai, but we ended up with the lunch special which was fine. He seemed to enjoy his two items as he finished them both. Thai is one of my fav cuisines so when I saw that there was a Thai restaurant in the area, I had to make the drive. We ordered some food for the kids and I got the Duck Curry. The bill came to $80 which I felt was kinda steep for 3 items, especially in Carson City. The restaurant is located on a street where there was very limited parking in front and all the rear parking is super dark so bring your night vision goggles. At least there's plenty of parking spots. When I walked in, I was surprised to see Caucasian staff members! Well I guess this isn't that different than Panda Express where you have hispanics in the front and the 1 token asian in the back cooking. I picked up my food and was pleasantly surprised to find the dishes were pretty loaded. I started dipping into my duck curry and OMG it was probably the best I've had. Not only was the flavor amazing and spiced just right, but there was a generous amount of duck! When I went to eat dim sum recently and ordered roast duck, I got a plate of duck that was mostly skin and bones. Here they actually de-boned the meat so you're getting nice chunks of flavorful, meaty duck along with fresh chunks of pineapple, tomatoes, and spices with that yummy curry over my caucasian rice (I like to be culturally sensitive). Even my wife that don't like duck really enjoyed this. So while $80 for 3 dishes may seem a bit high, it was worth it. I really enjoyed my meal here and my kids also ate all their noodles with enough leftovers for lunch the next day. read more

I tried the ginger noodle and it was delight in every bite. I will be back. Plus it's in the cute downtown area as it has beautiful entrances made a brick. It's rare that you find a Thai restaurant inside of the historic building like this. My server was excellent and she pointed out even which condiments were safe for the plant based eaters. Can't wait to come back and try some of the other noodle dishes my only complaint? i wish they had faux meat products. Oh well. Quality/Quantity - Came here for lunch today for my monthly (sometimes weekly) visits to Carson City; support local. Today we got the following lunch specials: Pork Pad Thai - Decent portion, okay flavors. Not as authentic as I expected, but still good. Nice to also have a soup which I gave to my wife. Not a soup drinker and this one I did not favor. And also a salad. My salad had the same/similar sauce/dressing as my Pad Thai. Chicken KraPow - My wife enjoyed this. She says it is what she usually gets/expects but it was missing the eggplant. Atmosphere - Good size location. Cool decor, see pictures. 2 hour street parking which was more than enough time for lunch. Open 6 days a week. Mondays to Fridays from 11am to 8:30pm, and on Saturday from 4pm to 9pm. Closed Sundays. Clean men's and women's restrooms. Service - 5 stars. Everyone was friendly and efficient. And such hard workers. Also great job with your menu with pictures. Price - $32 + tip. Made a reservation on May, 28, 2026 at 8pm, knowing they close at 830 but it was our friends birthday and it was the only time we could meet up and they allowed us to set the reservation. We all ordered water and soup, the soup was amazing!!! And the flavors were so in-depth. And they asked before hand if we wanted anything dessert wise to be packed up and taken home. Lovely date night ambiance feel, amazing presentation of food, and on top of that, the food tasted amazing!!! The curry and pad Thai was SO tasty and the right amount of savory and sweet. Saya, Saya, Saya...! One of our favorites of a myriad of amazing servers at The Basil. Ratree, Penny, Anya and Stacy are all wonderful too. They all work together to create an amazing culinary experience. As you sip water and/or wine / Thai beer that comes out right away, in the midst of a well decorated dining area with soft flute music in the background, you are treated to inspirational scents from other diner's previously ordered meals making you ravenous to get your own started! The crowd is always a mixture of people, young, old and in between. Sometimes a family dinner, sometimes a date-night, sometimes a birthday celebration, sometimes a business meeting. We tried the basil on a whim and ordered some food to go. They were packed!! Which always makes me excited because it means they must be good I ordered the yellow curry with vegetables and mango added. Unfortunately the basil doesn't give rice with curries which I thought was unusual. I had to order a side of rice which I haven't had to do with an order of curry before. The curry was delicious! The mango was a little over cooked. My husband got the basil fried rice with mix protein and it was good too. Came with a good portion of the meat and shrimp. He liked it. WOW!!!! This place will not disappoint! What I ordered; the fried spring rolls, Carson garlic chicken, silver noodles, spicy beef salad. Spring rolls are my favorite, I would have preferred a fresh spring roll, but these were super yummy as well, I just would have preferred fresh, which I didn't see on the menu. These came with a sweet plum type sauce that was very good. Silver noodles were great, they didn't have the same taste I am used to I think there was a fish sauce in these or an oyster sauce I didn't care for but my boyfriend loved them so we're still recommending them. They were cooked perfectly and all the veggies were done to perfection. My two favorite things the spicy beef salad & the Carson garlic chicken. May have been some of the best I have ever had. All the dishes are great for family style eating but that garlic chicken will NOT be shared next time. It came served with THE most beautiful spread of fresh blanched broccoli. Highly recommend all the dishes we had, and we both can't wait to come back. The vegetables in every dish were such a highlight almost as if the perfect noddles and perfect veggies were the meal with the meat being a topping. Everything was just so fresh! Only note, I am a spicy girl and level 3 spice was not enough for me. I asked for their chili oil to spic it up and that stuff was liquid gold! Next time I'll ask for level 5 spicy. read more

What a surprise to find such a slice of Thailand on the main street! Pleasantly decorated interior. Friendly hostess. Also, the cook brought our food out wearing gloves. I like that. I came in for lunch, so that means you get a flavorful cabbage-tofu soup in addition to your meal plate. I was never asked what heat level for my curry but it was warming and satisfying for me but was on the edge for Mr. Bland. He ordered a tofu ginger plate and he really enjoyed it. The servers were efficient and friendly and the decor is interesting. We liked that it was still decorated for Christmas. For food, we started with their fresh mango rolls and they were excellent. For mains, my son had Drunken Noodles with pork, my husband had Tom Yum soup, and I had Pad Thai with shrimp. My benchmark for evaluating Thai restaurants is Pad Thai and theirs was pretty good. Delicious food, the Bangkok fried rice reminded us of the Thai fried rice we had in Thailand months back. Lots of flavor! The mango sticky rice was also very delicious, a bit on the pricier side, but worth every penny! The decor was very pretty as well. The staff were very friendly, even though we unknowingly got there 30min before closing, we did not feel rushed, plus we eat quickly normally anyways lol.
