The Soft Shell Crab / Shrimp with Drunken Noodles and another with Pad Thai were both extremely tasty. The Fried Banana and Coconut Ice Cream were just the right way to conclude the dinner as it wasn't too heavy and again, very tasty. The coconut flakes in the ice cream really enhanced the flavor. The food here never disappoints. The staff is friendly and sits you quickly. Your meal usually starts with a complimentary soup that is hot and light. Appetizers to consider are the GREEN PAPAYA SALAD which is fresh and tangy one is enough to share and fill about 3 people. The SHRIMP TOAST is absolutely delicious. Served warm and crunchy. I have tried the BOAT NOODLE SOUP. Similar to a bowl of pho but a little on the heartier side with pot roast style meat to top it off, the broth is delicious with a hint of cinnamon. Wow! Simply Wow! Been wanting to try out The Basil for quite some time as I absolutely love Thai food and it did not disappoint in the least bit. In fact, it way exceeded my expectations. When we first walked in, we noticed how warm and inviting the place was. The menus are something special as well. Instead of just listing the food and the ingredients, they had color photos of the dishes. To top it off, you can make the dishes strictly vegetarian, or you can choose beef, chicken, shrimp, or a combination of chicken and shrimp which I did when I ordered the Panang Curry. While pretty spicy, it was rich in flavor, the proteins were cooked perfectly, and the jasmine rice was perfect. The service was fast and attentive. This is now my favorite Thai restaurant in the Reno/Carson/Sparks/Tahoe region. Will absolutely go back again soon. read more

Got seated right away on a Saturday night. Food came out relatively quickly. We ordered the red curry with chicken and then the pad see ew with beef. The curry was very flavorful and the coconut didn't overpower it, which I really liked. It was perfect with rice. The pad see ew was also really good and the beef was pretty tender. We did want to order the mango sticky rice for dessert, but unfortunately the mango was not fresh anymore. I'd come back to get these dishes again and even try some of their other items. Really nice little Thai restaurant right in the old town area. Tried to eat at Teejays across the street but the smell of cigarette smoke, sadness and utter desperation in that casino drove us out. A pretty darn good little Thai place right on main street. Having grown up in so cal where there are hundreds of great Thai restaurants, this place admittedly is not at that level, but it's a charming, clean family run restaurant that has some delicious food. Super cozy and loved the ambience inside when I went to pick up dinner. Service for pickup was great. Love the order ahead feature online. It made it super easy and the food was hot when I got home. What a great find in Carson City. Do yourself a favor next time in Carson City and stop there. Fresh, delicious and friendly staff.

My husband surprised me with a trip here over the weekend and it was pretty good. Here is our order Thai basil - [ ] Fried potsticker sweet chili - [ ] Egg roll with sweet sauce - [ ] Curry puff with onion carrot sweet sauce - [ ] Soup - too much spinach & tofu - [ ] BBQ chciken - [ ] Yellow curry - [ ] Mango sticky rice The curry puff was actually too sweet. It was good but not lights out good like Reno. The staff was well versed in vegan. The fried chicken was good but over cooked and dry. The yellow curry was spot on. The soup would have been fine with 70% less spinach snd tofu. The potstickers were good, the boys liked the sauce. Egg rolls delicious as always. The mango on the sticky rice was fresh but the syrup wasn't as good as Manteca so I left it alone. No dessert menu was provided. I had to ask if they had any. Not sure what else they have read more

My girlfriends and I went to Carson City just before Christmas for antiquing. At one of the small, cute antique stores we stopped by, we mentioned that it was time for lunch, and the store owner told us to go to Basil Thai restaurant. It was a cold, gray day, and the idea of having a hot Thai food just instantly convinced us; yes, Thai sounds perfect! As soon as we walked in, we were impressed by the charming interior. It's beautiful. Furniture and fixture looked very expensive, and the place was meticulously clean. Because we were cold, we all ordered different soup dishes. They were all delicious! I was so happy with my won ton soup. It warmed me right up, and just the right amount. It tasted all fresh. The service was excellent too. It looks like I'd be going to Carson City in regular basis, so I am looking forward to having meal here often! read more

Was craving some Thai food so I saw Basil restaurant on yelp. I entered the restaurant which was spacious and nicely decorated. The restaurant was half full with patron during the lunch time. I was seated quickly at a front window area which is not usual when I eat by myself. I was given the lunch special menu and I must say there are plenty of choices compared to other places which typically have about 6. I picked the chicken Pad Thai. I first received a cup of cabbage soup. The soup was full of cabbage and tofu with a flavorful broth which hit the spot. The chicken Pad Thai plate included a small salad and a egg roll which I ordered extra. The Pad Thai had a creamy peanut sauce with good pieces of chicken and onion. I wish it was spicy but I was not asked on the level of spiciness and I forgot to tell them. The side salad was small but flavorful of a peanut sauce with a few slices of cucumber and tomatoes. The egg roll was small and average in flavor. The service was very good, quick and refilled my water without me asking. The staff is friendly but struggles to keep up with their tables so expect a refill on your drinks about mid meal or plan on grabbing a staff member for refills. The food is off the charts good. Some of the best Thai food I have ever had. Tonight for appetizers we had the shrimp toast and the new cream cheese wontons. Both appetizers were full of flavor and served with sauces that complemented them. For my entree, I had the green combination curry with a side of rice. The heat and seasonings were perfect and the meats were cooked correctly. This definitely hit the spot. I could have used a bit more rice though. My friend got the special: soft shell crab & shrimp over drunken noodles. The soft shell crab was small but over this dish was so good it made your eyes roll into your head as you melted into your seat smiling. I would have to say this place is pretty good! I was hungry and craving some Thai food and I looked up this pace in downtown Carson City. I decided to go and try it out. I was pleasantly surprised on how busy it was on a cold Carson City winter night. This is a good sign! I walked in and was immediately greeted by staff, which all were wearing safety mask, face shields and gloves. The ambiance of the restaurant was very authentic and you could smell the food in the air. I ordered basil chicken with the traditional thick Thai noodle and ordered it spicy level 4 out of 5. I also ordered coconut soup, brown rice and Thai vegetable rolls. I waited a reasonable amount of time for a to go order. The food came out and I was ready to go home. I got to the house (which is close) and food was still nice and hot. I ate the rolls and chicken Basil and could taste the delicious flavours and spiciness that I love! The food was very authentic and full of flavour. Now, back to the restaurant locale. It's located in downtown Carson City. Plenty of street parking around the restaurants and shops, ambiance (while I waited) was very pleasant. Staff were very friendly and took COVID-19 safety measures. Price is very reasonable and the amount of food given is plentiful. My pictures my not seem as nice as if they probably would look if I ordered dine in. I bet you know off at least one establishment that you frequent often, but have never written a review? For me it's been The Basil. We love it here. The atmosphere is authentic. It's so relaxing it's hard to leave. They've paid great attention to detail and created a surreal escape for us to bask in, however temporary. While we're not Thai food conrnessouirs, we have tried most everything on the menu and have yet to be disappointed. There is a small language barrier. But if you are patient and focus, it occurs to you what she is asking and you can answer/move forward. A small price to pay for this awesome experience. Other than that everyone here is super friendly and accommodating. I suggest the Sourdough shrimp toast. The Basil fried rice is delicious, too. I have it on pretty good authority that the curries are all wonderful. Today at lunch, I tried the Thai Teriyaki Chicken for $12.95. A tiny salad, steamed broccoli and carrots accompany sliced chicken covered in a tasty teriyaki sauce. This also includes steamed rice and a yummy fried wanton cracker. Decent portions, not massive. All delectable. The service is fast, the people are friendly and the food is a wonderful treat. As I stated before, the atmosphere is elegant. It transposes you to a different place. 12/20 read more
