I live about 15 minutes away in Grass Valley, and this is probably one of the best restaurants within 15 minutes of me, and that says a lot. Amazing Asian faire, including Pho, noodles, rolls, and the lot. And they serve beautiful sushi most nights, but not every night, so check on that. I got the Yellow Curry (Chicken) - Carrot, potato, onion, yellow curry, coconut milk, basil, served w/ steamed rice). My daughter got the Vegetarian Vietnamese Sandwich (Banh Mi) - mayonnaise, pickled carrot, cucumber, house sauce, jalapeño, cilantro. After a long day of snow play, it's nice to come here for a hot bowl of pho (and then some). The staff is very nice and accomodating. It was extremely busy on Valentine's Day, but they still worked fast and got food out to us at a decent time. Food was made fresh to order. Everything came out hot. My favs were the beef pho, popcorn chicken, and crispy shrimp rolls. The beef pho tasted very fresh (better than most I've had in even in South Sac). The crispy shrimp rolls were excellent! I'd highly recommend this appetizer, as it's unique, fresh and crispy. I love that it came with fresh veggies to wrap. The popcorn chicken was perfectly breaded. The fried rice was delicious! There's a dog park nearby as well. This was our first time here and won't be our last (might even have to start making it a regular every time we're headed home from snow play in the future). read more

So so good. My mom and I came here after doing a hike in Tahoe National forest on our way back to Sacramento. I got the pho and my mom got the wonton soup. Found this spot off the freeway heading to Windsor California in a small town of Colfax California. Just over a year ago it was a Mexican resturaunt. Not sure what happen there but replaced with a quaint little bistro with some really yummy food. The Vietnamese ice coffee definitely woke me up! Very strong, slightly sweet and lots of caffeine. The servicing size was plenty for two. The chicken was very tasty and the fresh veggies with the noodles was great. Very excited to have Vietnamese food, without having to drive down the hill. I only went for a to-go order, so I can't really comment on the ambiance or service. I phoned in my order, and the guy was really awesome and my food was ready quick. The restaurant was clean and welcoming. I ordered beef stew, with noodles instead of bread. I like the stew meat and carrot with the beef broth, instead of traditional pho. Loved the amount of large chunk good carrots!! The meat was fresh and tender. The broth was out of this world. My brother tried it for the first time, he thought it was sweet. I didn't taste sweet, but the beef broth was very hearty with good amount of spices, so I guess some interpret that as sweet. Perfect for an achy tummy after Thanksgiving. If they have perfect pork egg rolls that are heavy on the meat and not filling, I will be in love. read more

I like this place but 5 stars? I think it's a little pricey for Colfax. We ate a lot of food, two entrees and two appetizers plus my wife ordered a Corona. Total came to $58 before tip. We spent $70 after leaving a $12 gratuity. So basically $35 per person for very good Vietnamese food but if we want to pay Bay Area prices we will go to San Francisco instead. Table was somewhat sticky, I think they need to use a stronger cleaning solution to make the tables cleaner. Even better would be to use tablecloths--- at these prices you should not have to deal with sticky tables! So my review says "5 stars for the food" but subtract one star for the high cost. And please skip the crispy egg rolls --- $7 for 3 tiny egg rolls that are not that great. read more

Everything was even better than expected! The service was great and the food was tasty even after the 45 min drive home. The wings were so good! Excellent experience at Colfax Bistro. Located at: 1 South Main Street in downtown Colfax. This location has had a few restaurants in it. Hopefully, Minh and Dat will keep us happy here in Colfax. We ordered: Crispy rolls, Salt & Pepper Shrimp (great lime sauce base!) and an excellent Chicken Chow Mein with lots of fresh baby bok choy and vegies. Im a lighter eater but plenty for both of us.
