    Baked muscles. Outstanding.

I live about 15 minutes away in Grass Valley, and this is probably one of the best restaurants within 15 minutes of me, and that says a lot. Amazing Asian faire, including Pho, noodles, rolls, and the lot. And they serve beautiful sushi most nights, but not every night, so check on that. Ben our owner/server, was awesome and we love the local art on the walls. I actually bought one piece just for the frame. But I kept the art anyway.

We went back to Colfax Bistro today. We were greeted immediately, sat at a table with menus and offered water. I got the Yellow Curry (Chicken) - Carrot, potato, onion, yellow curry, coconut milk, basil, served w/ steamed rice). My daughter got the Vegetarian Vietnamese Sandwich (Banh Mi) - mayonnaise, pickled carrot, cucumber, house sauce, jalapeño, cilantro. Vermicelli Noodle Salad - Stir-fried Veggies & Tofu (Rice noodle, lettuce, cucumber, bean sprouts, mint, pickled carrot & daikon, green onion, onion flake, dressing). Everything was delicious as always!

Absolutely love this place. We had just driven 3 hours here and were so hungry. HIT THE SPOT Definitely try the Tom yum soup if you like a spicy and flavorful broth full of good protein and veggies. And you really can't go wrong with the pho. Amazing service as well. And the music is so vibey

The food is super good and very clean. The veggies were crisp and all had very good flavor. The service is quick and friendly. The inside is clean and simply cute. Stopped in from our trek from Reno to Santa Rosa and I am glad we did. Reasonably priced. Really enjoyed our meal. Thank you.

Found this spot off the freeway heading to Windsor California in a small town of Colfax California. Just over a year ago it was a Mexican resturaunt. Not sure what happen there but replaced with a quaint little bistro with some really yummy food. The Vietnamese ice coffee definitely woke me up! Very strong, slightly sweet and lots of caffeine. Service was actually really quick. Been craving a good soup and this chicken wonton hit the spot.

Dish after a few bites. Almost forgot a picture.

So there I was... sitting on an oil rig in Alaska, talking to a sheriff's deputy with over 20 years…read moreon the job. He says, "My buddies keep telling me about this place called Pho King Good." Funny part? Even he had never been there. Well, that little story stuck with me. Fast forward a few weeks. My road trip partner, Koda, and I are heading home from Disneyland, cutting through Sacramento toward Grass Valley. We roll into Auburn and BOOM there it is. Pho King Good. Now let's just take a second to appreciate that name. If you're gonna swing for the fences with a name like Pho King Good, you've set the bar about as high as Mount Everest. You don't get to be "pretty decent." You'd better make me question every bowl of pho I've ever eaten. The sign? Absolutely iconic. It practically jumps out and hollers at you from the side of the road. Easy in, easy out. Road-tripper approved. Walking inside, though, I was expecting a little more "Pho King Palace" and a little less "we've been meaning to remodel since the Clinton administration." The marble counter looked nice enough, but the place just felt like it needed a little love. If I owned a restaurant with a name that good, I'd lean into it. Give me lanterns. Give me atmosphere. Make me feel like the King just walked in. Charge me another couple bucks if you have to I wouldn't mind if the experience matched the name. Then came the menu. It felt a little like Dysfunction Junction. They had everything listed, but it wasn't organized in a way that made ordering easy. Give me sections. House Pho. Beef Pho. Chicken Pho. Special Pho. Help a hungry traveler out. The food? Solid... right down the middle of the road. After hours in the car, a hot bowl of pho hits the spot no matter what. Koda really enjoyed his chicken dish, and our vegetable egg rolls with the peanut sauce were decent, although the wrapper was just a touch on the rubbery side. The owner was friendly, welcoming, and genuinely hospitable, which always counts for something. My only real disappointment was this: with a name like Pho King Good, I expected to leave saying, "That's the best pho I've ever had." Instead, I left saying, "That was... good." And then came the plot twist. Time to pay. Cash only. So now I'm walking out to the ATM like I'm making a withdrawal for a back-alley poker game or a dispensary run. I'm standing there thinking, "Well... this tip just took a hit because I wasn't planning on paying an ATM fee for my noodles." I still don't quite understand it. You're giving change, printing receipts, running a business... we're already 95% of the way to taking cards! Overall, this wasn't about whether the food was amazing or terrible. It was about the experience. Sometimes that's the story worth telling. Would I stop again on another road trip? Probably. Because sometimes a bowl of pho, your best buddy Koda riding shotgun, and a restaurant with the greatest pun in California are all you really need. And if they ever decide to polish the place up and make it live up to that legendary name... It might just become Pho King Great.

VEGAN SIGHTING!!! I…read moredon't even know where to start my fellow vegans. This quirky, Vietnamese restaurant in the city of Auburn, CA, has by far the best vegan Banh Mi sandwich. The tofu was prepared so it did not take up the whole sandwich. The pickled radish and carrots had the perfect and balanced of sour and sweet. Of course, can't leave out the herbs of cilantro and fresh jalapinjoes. The french bread was crispy outside but still soft and hearty as you take a bite. My earth was it a 2 thumbs up!!! Then their vegan pho with veggies and tofu did not disappoint. Their veggie broth was perfectly blended and made wonderfully that I was not even thinking this was vegan. The staff was kind and informative. They were attentive and friendly. Then comes the merch. If you like a play on the word Pho, then come and check out their shirts for sale. All I have to say is "Life is Pho king good." With this said, another gem in Auburn, CA.

FOOD - Walnut Shrimp: battered shrimp with candied walnuts…read moreover broccoli. The shrimp wasn't crunchy enough. Walnut shrimp is my go-to when I have Chinese food so I'm a little bit of a walnut shrimp snob. This was pretty mid. 3.5/5 - Mongolian Beef: beef with onions, red bell peppers, and bok choy. We went early at 4 when they opened, in hopes it would be more relaxed since we had read reviews about it getting busy. When we arrived there was one diner already eating but we sat down quickly. I asked about the gluten free options (since there was mention that they offered some) but when I asked the waitress, she said there were many things and to "see what I wanted and ask her" if it was gluten free. This was difficult since the menu had the traditional names for the dishes but no description. I told her what I usually get and hoped she might suggest something. She did not, she walked away. I did ask about the appetizers (are they rice paper) but none are gluten free so we didn't order any. She kept having to walk away while discussing the menu so I ended up googling dish names to see the preparation and potential ingredients. Two more tables came in and she didn't have time to explain what the dishes were we were interested in. I have worked as a waitress, and we kept saying "no rush" . If you have diet concerns, there is no way to work with the menu since there is no description of the food or distinguishing "gluten free" options like other menus. Some have "GF" or a star by safe items. My husband asked if the noodle dish could be made with a different protein (shrimp vs chicken) but was told no, it cant. He saw the fried fish at the earlier diners table and ordered it. His was literally half the size as the "regular" customers. We heard her telling someone she had been coming here for 12 years and we were impressed with that. We always have a favorite restaurant and wanted this to be ours. We asked if there was mango sticky rice tonight, no there was not. So, while we wanted to love this place and find our new "go to" it didn't happen. We realize we are not regulars (yet) but felt like she just didn't have the time to make us feel welcome. This is not a negative review but more of a heads up if you have food special needs.
