The flavor was pretty good. The beef was tender enough. 3.75/5 - Orange Chicken combo: orange chicken with chow mein, and egg roll. The chicken wasn't dry but not very tender either. The flavor was okay. The chow mein and vegetable egg roll were pretty standard. 3.5/5 - Fried Rice and 4 Dumpling set combo: the fried rice was, also, pretty standard. The pork dumplings were pretty good. The side of wonton soup was good. 3.75/5 SERVICE: Service was pretty fast and friendly. 4/5 FINAL THOUGHTS: Everything was okay. Walked in from the foggy weather and ordered Home-made noodle soup. The broth had nice depth to it and enough bok coy , chicken, beef, shrimp etc. noodles was silky soft. . When I see Singapore chow mein on menu Is a plus. I love the curry spice & stir-fry noodle taste! Cordial staff- waited on me as a solo diner instantly. One thing I did notice was they didn't offer tea which is usually customary at Chinese restaurants. It's just an observation ( not a critique). Love all the original work of art on the walls. Wasn't sure what I'd find in a Chinese restaurant in a small mountain town, but the menu offered mongolian pork, a dish you don't often see, which turned out to be delicious. Not safe if you have food allergies. I told the older female server I had a medical issue and could not eat gluten. She pointed out a few things on the menu I could safely eat. I ordered what she recommended and am still sick three days later. I don't know what she did to me but I got the impression that she thought my medical diagnosis was made up and I was just trying to be difficult. Never again. I have been to this restaurant twice now and the experience was great both times. This clean and cozy restaurant is located in old town Auburn right next to the Pour Choice. I'm not usually a big fan of Chinese food because it's a quantity over quality situation. Liu Mandarin Kitchen is the exact opposite. While their portions aren't massive, they serve quality food that leaves you satisfied. The first time I went I ordered their General Tso's lunch special with chow mein and an egg roll. Their General Tso's chicken was delicious, and the egg rolls are light, crispy, and aren't greasy at all. The chow mein didn't have too much cabbage which is something I appreciated as well. I also had a half order of their dumplings which are absolutely amazing! Everything was so good and fresh that I went back two days later for lunch again. This time I ordered the Kung Pao chicken lunch special, and a full order of dumplings. The food was as good as the previous time, and so was the service. Delish food! Had steamed pork and beef buns and green beans with garlic and friend rice. Service was great and What was great was the restaurant wasn't loud and noisy. We could eat and have a nice conversation without shouting. I want to say something about " clean food" here too. on the way eastward, we looked for food and found this place, '3 minutes out your way '. that looked perfectly reasonable, but auburn is terrible for parking on sunday. inside the historic building the place is very tastefully laid out. we were only there for a snack and got hot and sour soup and egg rolls. the soup is the litmus test for chinese food. if it comes to you oversalted, the rest the will be no good and i tell you the soup was perfect and so were the egg rolls. i'd go back next time i pass through. read more

I appreciated coming in and having my food ready exactly when they stated it would be. Food was good, we ordered veggie fried rice which had a good balance of veggies and rice ratio. I will say I wasnt expecting the portions to be what they were. A little less than I mentally envisioned based off experiences at other places. That does not diminish that we enjoyed the beef broccoli and kung pao chicken. My main favorite wasn't the meat based items but the string beans steamed with garlic (really good). I was really craving some Asian food and have been wanting to try Lui Mandarin in the historic part of Auburn. We had the following. (With enough leftovers for lunch the next day) Pork dumplings or pot stickers, flavorful ground pork filling, nice crunch to them side of ground hot oil augmented the overall yummy ness, minus a point for a piece of gristle in one of them. Tai Bei rice noodles, vegetables, and chicken. Light flavors that worked well with the other items we ordered. Mongolian beef, tender chunks of beef white and green onions seasoning, not overly spicy, delicious. Walnut shrimp, big mayonnaise coated prawns,deep fried, crunchy perfectly cooked with a small quantity of candied walnuts & a few broccoli florets also very good. Hot tea to drink. Spendy, but we ordered some of the most expensive stuff on the menu. Nicely decorated interior & friendly service from the owner made for a really good early dinner. Liu's is a place we don't often hit but when we do we are always please. We generally only get the pot stickers, which they make themselves. We like to get them to go and then head next door to the pour choice. Ouch. This was some of the worst Chinese food I've ever had. We forwent the other Chinese spots because of the high reviews for this spot, but I'm still not sure what we were missing. Pork dumplings First, when we ordered, we were told 15 minutes. My husband walked in at the 20 minute mark and they turned us away, saying we shouldn't expect our food so quickly. We waited outside and later came back to check on the status and they apologized for mixing up our order and that it had been done 30 minutes ago. The broccoli beef is super, super sweet. The won ton soup was so intensely salty that it was hard to drink. The won tons might have been great steaming hot, but they were so cold they felt like they'd come out of the fridge and not reheated. Bummer. Small portions are fine - especially when the food is great. But this food was really quite inedible. read more

I walked into the restaurant around 6pm and placed an order for pork dumplings (fried) and beef noodle soup (红烧牛肉面). They told me that my order would be ready in 20 minutes. The staff was very friendly and just something to keep in mind, they're requesting customers to pay in cash! The dumplings were honestly some of the best that I've had in a while. Their dumplings have a very nostalgic, homemade quality to them. You can tell that the dumplings were made with care and fresh ingredients. Their beef noodle soup is equally as good, with a very flavorful broth and tender pieces of beef. Needless to say, I was extremely satisfied with my meal, and it definitely gave me the feeling of comfort that I was looking for that night. Pre-pandemic! Visited this place a few times during my recent trips to Auburn, CA and I've become quite a fan. The owners are super nice and hospitable. And their food is fresh and delicious. My boyfriend loves coming here as he doesn't get to have authentic Chinese food as often so visits here are a treat. The place is bright and spacious, and overall a great ambiance for date night! Service has always been good during my previous experiences. I live in NY at the moment, so I'm none too sure when I'll be able to return to CA, nor can I really shed any new information to their covid-19 safety measures at this time, but what I can tell you is that if they're offering take out or delivery, please don't hesitate in supporting this local business!! The setting of the restaurant is really relaxing and beautiful. It is not too loud or too quiet inside so that makes it wonderful.
