    Nigiri Special - King Salmon
    Alix B.

The vibe makes you feel like you're not in Truckee. The pace is quick. The focus is on food. The sake is good and the fish is fresh. I recommend ordering for the experience and getting out of the norm. Try something new, let yourself be surprised, enjoy the flavor journey along the way. Oh, and if you like garlic, you CANNOT skip the edamame pictured.

let me just start off by saying that this is one of the best sushi spots I've ever been to. As someone who is an avid sushi lover I enjoy going up to Truckee and getting some fresh fish. I recently went there with about 16 teenagers and the staff was incredibly patient with all of us talking about nonsense and trying to split the bill. Their staff was also super efficient and fast because you've ever been around 16 hungry teenagers... It's not a pretty site. not to mention that Truckee is beautiful and this place is no different. The outdoor city is great and sitting aside is also great very pretty.

We tried this restaurant in Truckee and honestly I was really disappointed. We got the chef's special sushi plate for market price, and it was $150. It's one thing to pay that much, but as you can see in the photo, it's really not that much food which was extremely disappointing. You essentially get one roll, 6 pieces of nigiri, and a few pieces of sashimi for $150.....not worth it at all in my opinion. The fish was seasoned well and tasted pretty good, but I simply couldn't get past the price. The kitchen was also super backed up so when we were still hungry after the chef's special and decided to order more, it took way too long so we decided to cancel the order because we didn't want to wait. Overall the rest of the food was pretty mediocre as well, and again for that price, I would simply not return here. Just my opinion.

$7 service charge for to go order. Yikes.

Overpriced sushi. Paid almost $60 for 2 miniature rolls. See picture. Almost $8 service fee for to go order and they didn't even inform me of this until I looked at the bill. Waited 30 minutes for order though restaurant was empty.

Tried Drunken Monkey in Truckee and was blown away by the flavor. Everything was bold, balanced, and super satisfying. Service was a tad slow and not super attentive, but the food made up for it. Still definitely worth a visit if you're in town!

Love this place and stop every time I come by I watch all the other great entrées and starters going by everything. Here is great standard Real true Japanese food quality no weird mayonnaise junk all a great spinach dish this morning or today. I just spent much of time in New York in Portugal eating great food but drunken monkey as weird as Name is. It's top top top top sushi spot in the world. If you miss this you missed out I never miss it.

An okay sushi place... the sushi was decent but not the best. There was no nigiri combo or set which was a bummer so you have to order each nigiri separately. Miso soup was definitely a miss and lacked an authentic miso flavor. It was more reminiscent of a chicken soup. I think this sushi spot is decent, but if you're used to more authentic Asian flavors this might not be the spot for you. Service was good and the inside was nice!

Really cute vibe with a sushi counter. Didn't expect fresh fish out in Truckee but was pleasantly surprised. Hand rolls (temaki) were so great especially the hotate one. Special rolls were pretty good as well. Not mind-blowing but good for a sushi date night. Good service but can definitely be a little slow when crowds pick up.

We had a great meal here with 8 people last weekend! We called that morning and they told us to just call when we were on our way and then they were able to seat us quickly. We had the Kamari edamame to start, which had a kick from the chili. I thought it needed salt, but my husband thought it was the best edamame he's ever had! We then had the Sierra sunset roll, the Tomoe roll, and the sake (salmon) thin roll. The tomoe roll was so good, it was deep fried and delicious!! I also had the hibiscus margarita which was delicious! It was light and fresh, and not too sweet! Overall a delicious meal with friends!

High monkey maki (left) Red dragon roll (right)

Expensive sushi, but worth every dollar. Fish is flown from Hawaii and tastes so fresh and flavorful. Some of my all time favorite sushi rolls - especially the red dragon roll!

The restaurant was not busy when we walked in (about 2-3 tables) but it got busier afterwards. Due to the restaurant not being super busy, they only had one employee waiting on us and the initial wait for our food was about 15-20 minutes. Later on, it appeared more staff came in and additional ordered items appeared faster. Items ordered: Green tea- great nutty flavor and perfect for fellow green tea lovers! Free refills Spicy cucumber - they used Persian cucumbers and this was a small dish. Taste was fine but I prefer the Northern Chinese style spicy cucumber over this one (if you compare these two dishes) Garnet Ramen - Good dish and delicious broth! Hubby enjoyed this. Pearl Ramen - I really enjoyed the clear broth and subtle but good mix of flavors. I preferred these noodles over the Garnet as these are thinner. Quartz Ramen - The creamy broth was my second favorite and the amount of chicken, fried onions, and broccolini were a nice touch. Kid's chicken karaage x2 - kids enjoyed this a lot Kids' Ramen- this came with just noodles, corn, and broth (your selection). Kiddo enjoyed the Quartz broth, so we selected Quartz. Even though tea had free refills, I had to ask our waiter for a refill. I know he was busy, so it wasn't a big deal.

It was my first time there, and my server Jamie was really friendly and helpful. He walked me through the menu, and I ended up going with à la carte so I could try a few things. I also thought it was really cool that they source fish from Japan every couple of days. That definitely shows the level of quality they're going for. I'll definitely be back, and next time I want to try the full course. The restaurant itself is beautiful overall. Only small thing for me was that it got a little smoky at times, and the wine tasted slightly old, although my server confirmed the bottle had been opened recently. It honestly may have just been the wine I chose. Still a great experience overall.

We always go for the shared plates, it's more expensive but worth it. Some things to consider before you visit: -No reservations, first come first serve. Most nights it's a 30-45 minute wait if you don't get there right when they open. We always put our name down and walk to Chapel for a cocktail while we wait. - Like many of the reviews state, it does get pretty loud. It is part of the experience. The later the night gets, the louder the music and the dimmer the lights. Don't be the annoying person that asks them to adjust either of those things. If that's not your vibe, you should dine elsewhere. - Seating is limited, not the place to have people just trickle in/ come and go. If you are dining here, everyone should show up on time. - They do have gluten free mods, but they are not available on the weekends. - I would not recommend for vegans We have tried basically the entire menu. Cool vibes all around, and it's neat to sit at the bar and watch the chefs do their thing. Though it does mean this is a little bit on the noisy side. Look at the menu, and there are tons of tempting options. As the name suggests, their specialty here is small plate off the grill or out fo the fryer. But they do serve really good-looking ramen, too, which I will make not to try next time I swing by. I at first went with a quick bite of grilled chicken thighs, which were just amazing! They were juicy, eprfectly seared, with some grilled green onions and an amazing sweet soy sauce. I also went with the yakionigiri, which are balls of rice that are grilled, brushed with sauce, and topped with a sort of mango slaw. A bit uncommon, but wow, these were also just so delicious! Also had a glass of sake, though they have a full bar should you want some other sort of beverage. Prices here are, I feel, a little on the higher end for small plates. However, I think it is definitely worth coming and trying this place out at least once or twice, just to expereince some of the good food. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable, and she did a great job walking us through the day's specials as well as some of her favorite picks. The coconut, basil, and bitters balanced beautifully with the gin, making for a super refreshing drink that felt especially perfect for spring or summer weather. We followed our server's advice and ordered four items, two larger plates and two starters, and everything was delicious. Here's the breakdown: Trout Dip: Fantastic smoky, fishy flavor in all the right ways, served with crostinis. The only small nitpick was that the crostinis were overdone for my taste and shattered loudly when bitten into. Grilled Prawns: Super meaty and seasoned and sauced perfectly, with a bed of slaw that balanced the dish nicely. Scallops: Seared to perfection and in an addicting red Thai curry sauce. I was intrigued by the combo of kimchi, grits, and curry and have to say that it somehow blends amazingly well. Lamb Chops: Cooked to a perfect medium rare, expertly seasoned, with little gaminess and a cooling yogurt sauce that really brought the dish together.
