Blue Fish is located toward the back of a cute liquor store called Sips, where you could also grab a nice drink and enjoy your bowl. Within Blue Fish's corner nook, they carry Japanese snacks which were nice to browse while I waited. I had to wait about 15 minutes for someone to come back out of the kitchen to place my order -- I didn't mind since I wasn't in much of a rush. The woman returned with 6 bowls for two different customers so I imagine she's working alone back there. Now the Poke Bowl: I ordered a salmon poke bowl with 1/2 white rice, 1/2 leafy greens, creamy yuzu togarashi, scallion, cucumber, seaweed salad, crab salad, avocado, edamame, pineapple, pickled ginger, wasabi, masago, furikake, garlic chips, crispy onion, and nore seaweed. I surprisingly thought it was pretty good! The sauce was delicious, the rice was warm & fluffy, the poke to sauce ratio was on point. $18+ worthy? I'm not sure but that's a different story. I docked a star because there were a few ingredients missing in my bowl which included avocado, pineapple, and wasabi. I wasn't too upset considering I didn't have to pay extra for these but it would have been nice for her to mention (I imagine she ran out of ingredients since it was close to closing which is 3pm.. so I understand) However, I did enjoy my meal -- I actually split it with my boyfriend as a snack so that we could have space for dinner and we both enjoyed this light meal. What a great little poke place. It's a small closet sized space at the back of a convenience store (which is also quite nice and has lots of good snacks and Hawaiian/Asian food stuff) where a single person labors away making some top notch poke bowls. Nolan was staffing the place when I showed up and he was great; definitely deserves a raise since he was working hard producing lots and lots of orders while keeping up a cheery demeanor. My wife and I got spicy tuna and salmon, my kids were down with the chicken and regular tuna options and we were all quite pleased. Yelp does it again, helping us find another fabulous establishment. We were quite hungry after a drive and a little sightseeing and ready for a late lunch, preferably something healthy-ish. While there was an A-frame sign out front that said Bluefish, the establishment we walked into was more of a liquor store with small bar in front. We initially thought we were in the wrong place. Perhaps some of the reviews had mentioned this, but I hadn't dug deep. Luckily, after walking out of the store, we walked back in towards the back and located Bluefish. While there are some Poké combos you can choose from, you can also customize your own bowl. The four of us each decided to customize and we were not disappointed! At an hour before closing they were out of white rice, but we were all OK with eating brown rice (plus adds to health factor). You can select your protein, rice and/or salad, sauce(s) and unlimited toppings. I got spicy tuna, salmon, Yuzu something rather (Mayo) and garlic ponzu sauces and many yummy toppings. The fish was quite fresh tasting, the sauces on point (yuzu Mayo was great!) and the rice cooked just right. I really like that you can select an unlimited amount toppings when you customize your bowl, even avocado! The service was also good, especially the young lady working the front. She helped me with my canned margarita order, sharing a little story about the drink's creator, and was sweet enough to put my drink in a glass with ice. The liquor store also has quite a nice selection of wine, liquor, beer and other canned / bottled adult beverages (sorry, no pictures of their selection). And the section adjacent to Bluefish has a small selection of Asian market goods. My fam gave me props for finding another good place to eat at. 4.5 stars. The wife and I were staying with family at a rental in Tahoe. One night we dropped into a liquor store, which also had a sign on the front that said Blue Fish Poke. I was stoked as I was craving some local food. Unfortunately, they were only open for lunch. We made it a mission to come here the next day right when they opened. We bought 8 bowls for the entire family. All the same-- ahi, white rice, traditional Hawaiian sauce, seaweed salad, crab salad, avocado, edamame, ginger, wasabi, masago, sesame seeds, and wonton chips. The bowls were delicious. Not the best I've ever had but to be able to have something that good in Lake Tahoe made my trip. The ahi was tender, and the rest of the ingredients were great. We wanted to try that sushiritto I've seen in other Yelp pics, but unfortunately they were no longer carrying it. After the 3 1/2 hours of driving to beautiful Tahoe City, my family and I were staaarving. The kids were in the mood for some sushi and this place was perfect. It was kind of confusing to find the place because it was located inside a liquor store. We were directed to walk to the back of the store and lo and behold, there was a little window to order. We all ended up ordering the same kind of sushirrito. We ordered the crunchy shrimp. It was delicious! Sauce was great, wonton strips were crunchy, and all around good. Food was really good. My experience is a bit skewed on the rest. I ended up waiting for 50 minutes for two bowls which is ridiculous. They also ran out of white rice mid way and had to replace my order with brown rice and supplement with leafy veggies. After a morning of riding, we were hungry for some lunch and we were passing by Tahoe City. We wanted something quick and simple yet filling and fit the bill and we came across Blue Fish on Yelp. The sound of a sushi burrito or a poke bowl was refreshing to see in Tahoe City since it's a land of burgers, fries, and the like. Blue Fish is located in the same shopping center as Fat Cat Cafe and a small thrift shop - the parking lot can get quite busy once it hits the evening time so be aware. Blue Fish is in the back right corner of the liquor/convenience store Sips when you walk in. You can go straight to the back, pick up some menus on the shelves and ring the bell when you're ready to order. Super easy and made fresh within a few minutes of ordering. I can't complain about $8 sushi burritos or $15 poke bowls (as of January 2020) here - they're pretty awesome and I thought it was a perfect meal and fit all the criteria I had above. My boyfriend and I got the ahi volcano burrito and thought it was super well rounded and fresh. It may be a bit spicy some of you, but there's something for everyone on the menu. So happy to have discovered this place this past weekend - we look forward to coming back! read more

I love good poke, and this place is very good! Fresh flavorful fish and toppings. Make note of the open hours because they are only open part of the day. It is located at the back of the liquor shop, Sips. Food is served to go, but there is seating out front with view of the lake across the street. First time I went here it was incredible. Fresh fish with fresh real crab and was one of the best poke bowls I've ever had. The next time was sub par and this third and last time was dreadful. It took over an hour to get my order and when we ate it, it was terrible. Undercooked rice, fish was cut way too big as were the veggies. The jalapeños were almost a quarter of an inch thick. Our burritos looked like they were rolled by a orangutang with hardly any filling. Just more undercooked rice. There was only one kid in there working who was completely in over his head. I have gone back to Blue Fish several times over the past year for their delicious poke bowls. The fish always tastes so fresh and there are so many toppings to choose from. And toppings don't cost extra! Service is usually pretty quick as well. The portions overall are very large, but my one complaint is that they usually give very little avocado. In this bowl I only had about five small pieces, but it wasn't a big issue as it didn't cost any extra. I love their poke bowls and will continue coming back! read more
