    Salmon custom bowl
    Veronica L.

Cute little poke spot tucked in the back of the SIPS liquor store. They offer custom bowls or their offerings which have specific fish and sauces. You grab a laminated menu and mark what you want and write your name. Service is friendly and fast. Food is made to order. Easy to grab a salmon onigiri, drinks, or ice cream from the liquor store to supplement. The fish shop also has a nice variety of Japanese snacks.

Blue Fish is located toward the back of a cute liquor store called Sips, where you could also grab a nice drink and enjoy your bowl. Within Blue Fish's corner nook, they carry Japanese snacks which were nice to browse while I waited. I had to wait about 15 minutes for someone to come back out of the kitchen to place my order -- I didn't mind since I wasn't in much of a rush. The woman returned with 6 bowls for two different customers so I imagine she's working alone back there. Now the Poke Bowl: I ordered a salmon poke bowl with 1/2 white rice, 1/2 leafy greens, creamy yuzu togarashi, scallion, cucumber, seaweed salad, crab salad, avocado, edamame, pineapple, pickled ginger, wasabi, masago, furikake, garlic chips, crispy onion, and nore seaweed. I surprisingly thought it was pretty good! The sauce was delicious, the rice was warm & fluffy, the poke to sauce ratio was on point. $18+ worthy? I'm not sure but that's a different story. I docked a star because there were a few ingredients missing in my bowl which included avocado, pineapple, and wasabi. I wasn't too upset considering I didn't have to pay extra for these but it would have been nice for her to mention (I imagine she ran out of ingredients since it was close to closing which is 3pm.. so I understand) However, I did enjoy my meal -- I actually split it with my boyfriend as a snack so that we could have space for dinner and we both enjoyed this light meal. I'd recommend this place if you're looking for decent a poke fix while you're in Tahoe.

Such a funny quirky poke spot tucked behind a liquor store! Mad respect for the one employee there holding down the fort and completing everyone's orders while being friendly. The quality and portions of the poke bowl were outstanding. Love that avocado is included without the extra fee. Fish tasted fresh so overall would come back again next time!

Sorry, already dug into poke before I took this pic!

Yelp does it again, helping us find another fabulous establishment. We were quite hungry after a drive and a little sightseeing and ready for a late lunch, preferably something healthy-ish. While there was an A-frame sign out front that said Bluefish, the establishment we walked into was more of a liquor store with small bar in front. We initially thought we were in the wrong place. Perhaps some of the reviews had mentioned this, but I hadn't dug deep. Luckily, after walking out of the store, we walked back in towards the back and located Bluefish. While there are some Poké combos you can choose from, you can also customize your own bowl. The four of us each decided to customize and we were not disappointed! At an hour before closing they were out of white rice, but we were all OK with eating brown rice (plus adds to health factor). You can select your protein, rice and/or salad, sauce(s) and unlimited toppings. I got spicy tuna, salmon, Yuzu something rather (Mayo) and garlic ponzu sauces and many yummy toppings. The fish was quite fresh tasting, the sauces on point (yuzu Mayo was great!) and the rice cooked just right. I really like that you can select an unlimited amount toppings when you customize your bowl, even avocado! The service was also good, especially the young lady working the front. She helped me with my canned margarita order, sharing a little story about the drink's creator, and was sweet enough to put my drink in a glass with ice. The liquor store also has quite a nice selection of wine, liquor, beer and other canned / bottled adult beverages (sorry, no pictures of their selection). And the section adjacent to Bluefish has a small selection of Asian market goods. My fam gave me props for finding another good place to eat at. 4.5 stars. Thanks Yelp for not letting us down!

After the 3 1/2 hours of driving to beautiful Tahoe City, my family and I were staaarving. The kids were in the mood for some sushi and this place was perfect. It was kind of confusing to find the place because it was located inside a liquor store. We were directed to walk to the back of the store and lo and behold, there was a little window to order. We all ended up ordering the same kind of sushirrito. We ordered the crunchy shrimp. It was delicious! Sauce was great, wonton strips were crunchy, and all around good. One thing I wish they did instead was use tempura shrimp rather than the small shrimp pieces they used. Service was good. Will come back if in the area.

An unexpected gem tucked into a tiny corner of a liquor store. A place you would not think to find amazing and fresh seafood.

Amazing poke bowls, super fresh and made to order. Love this place! Located inside SIPS. Best lunch in town!

The zucchini fries are exactly what you'd expect--fresh zucchini coated and fried until crispy and golden brown, then served with ranch for dipping. My only complaint? There's never enough ranch! I saw their beautiful deck overlooking the marina while on a walk, and thought it looked like a perfect way to end a long day on the lake with my wife and her best friend and my Dad. I was excited to sit on the deck and soak up the great lake scenery we'd been enjoying all day but was informed that if you want to sit outside you have to order off their dinner menu, and if you wanted to order off the bar menu , you could only sit inside. Bar menu had burgers salads, fish tacos that sounded better after an 85 degree lake day, didn't really feel like steak and baked potato or pork chops etc so we sat inside. The bar area was very stuffy, no air flow, so instead of enjoying the beautiful deck area at 1/3 capacity we fanned ourselves with our menus waiting for our mediocre food. Sitting outside would automatically elevate your evening at Jake's so the management is only hurting themselves by not packing that deck and improving the dining experience for all their customers...... even those who don't want your higher priced dinner options. It felt like a greedy move and for me a sign of restaurant that is struggling , great restaurants want a 5 star experience for all customers, weather they are having drinks and apps or steak and lobster. It makes sense now that when we left and walked along the water toward commons beach that the other 2 lakeside restaurants were packed and Jake's was 1/2 empty for dinner on friday night! It sure seems to me that packing that deck every night is good optics for passers by and would only earn Jake's more business , I think they are stepping over dollars to pick dimes. The temperature and humidity inside was unpleasant , the food was meh and it left a bad taste in my mouth both literally and figuratively. The fish tacos had no flavor at all, didn't come with salsa or sour cream or hot sauce or guacamole , I took one bite and got up to get some cholula hot sauce. The fish was ok, the tacos had a bland pico de gallo and some cabbage, the tortillas felt like they were just pulled out of the package and stuffed and there was no love put into them and the flavors were non existent. I was going to give 2 stars but i really don't have anything good to say about Jake's so I think they've earned 1 star and I definitely will not be going back. The tacos at the Bridgetender ( just down the road) are waaayy better especially the fish and carnitas , the lake view at Jake's isn't good enough to make up for meh food and not being able to sit outside unless is a weak business move !! Good luck turning it around , as far as location , Jake's has tons of potential and the inside of the restaurant has beautiful wood everywhere and kinda feels like you are on a boat ....... but the proof is in the pudding and the pudding was not good! Glad I didnt pay up to sit outside if their bar menu dishes are that weak , I wouldn't want to try their 60$ steak dinner.
