I didn't have a reservation on a busy night, but they very graciously squeezed me in any way, after a brief wait in their very comfortable outdoor waiting area. The salmon was superb with well prepared garnishes, and I tried a small chocolate dessert. They do not serve wine or beer, so I recommend you BYOB or just pop across the road after you order to a well-stocked wine section of the deli. No corkage fee charged. From my first bite of my salad (mint, cotija cheese and tahini) with mixed organic greens made for a most amazing start. Then topped it off with linguini with meatballs that was out of this world. Clearly fresh ingredients combined with creativity that superseded any of my expectations! Honestly the best dining experience I've ever had any where any time! My friend had the shrimp appetizer with zucchini, and noodles in a roasted red pepper sauce that was sublime followed by salmon that was prepared perfectly. The service was impeccable! This place is so adorable and has a great atmosphere that feels cozy yet put together! I had a side of the linguini with garlic tomatoes and parmesan with the chicken breast and it was all very delicious. The chicken had such a great seasoning and was super moist which paired well with the linguini. Everything tasted so fresh and even the pasta felt homemade. And for dessert, wow. The dark chocolate medallions are to die for if you love a good sea salt chocolate. Overall, really enjoyed this experience and if you have the chance to talk to the owner or servers, you can easily tell they really care about the food they dish out! read more

We had the hamachi crudo, salad and daily parsnip soup as appetizers. Mains were linguine with meatballs and the marinaded chicken breast. Unfortunately we didn't get to try the fish (salmon was sold out) since we arrived as their last seating at 8:15. Service was attentive and friendly. For desert we shared the million dollar pie (think carmel chocolate and dense shortbread). Overall enjoyed the late dinner on our way from Utah to Sacramento. No alcohol was available. May try this restaurant again down the road. About 30 minutes south of I-80 (89 south) near Truckee. Give them a try, but call ahead to make sure they have space available. read more

The food looked and smelled delicious here- be warned that the venue is quite small, so there will be a significant wait if you come on the weekend around dinner time without a reservation. Tried to eat here twice with a group of four and both times the wait was over an hour and a half for dinner on a Saturday evening. I thought about making reservations- but we were rock climbing and didn't know when we would be able to wrap up for dinner. I did see lots of folks doing pick up orders to go- so may try that next time. Hope to actually try the food next time! read more

I've been coming to Spoon for years, every chance I get when I'm Tahoe. It's the best homemade, cozy, comforting meal you can get in the area. The food portions are large, there is rotating specials and alwayssss get the dessert. Their menu is always a classic combination of: protein, carb, & veg + sauce. Meatballs have always been on the menu but the type of fish rotates. It's always delicious. Whatever the house soup is, you should get it. The fresh salad with homemade dressing also changes but remains impeccable. Space is tight; they only have 7 tables. YES you should make a reservation. They open at 3PM & you should call them asap. We came to Tahoe for our anniversary. Just had dinner here and the food was amazing. Their soup was a pea soup with ham and mushrooms, delicious! My partner had the chicken thighs with the best rice I have tasted. It was tangy! I had the king salmon. It was also very good. The place is small, cute and cozy. Recommend making a reservation to guarantee a table. The staff were very friendly! I will come again! Update: we took our dessert to go... just had it. Chefs kiss! We heard so many good things about Spoon. We decided to go last night to celebrate a birthday. We were met by Gigi. She was so pleasant and directed us to some chairs and provided us with a wine opener to open the bottle of wine we brought. She was so pleasant and so sweet. We were introduced to our server Rocio. She was from Argentina and so polite when telling us the specials. We shared the three cheese scallion Mac and cheese and roasted eggplant dip. The Mac was creamy and flavorful and the eggplant had a smoke tone with a splash of heart. We had the King Salmon special with quinoa. Salmon perfectly done and the quinoa was bright to counter the salmon. We also had the Spicy Rubbed Organic chicken legs with spring potatoes and pesto sauce. This reminded us of a classic French dish well executed. Final dish was the linguine and meatballs. Linguine was Al Dente. Meatballs had a unique seasoning that added flavor. We finished the evening with the three medallion and chocolate mousse with raspberries. Both were delicious. I would have loved to have a bowl of the mousse with just the raspberries. Maybe a new dessert idea? Fortunately, a brown bear came along and we were so excited we took pictures of the bear and forgot to take pictures of our dishes. read more

Although North Tahoe has many spots to choose from, we ended up going to Spoon despite it lacking a view of the lakefront -- and how glad I am that we did. Our experience at Spoon was amazing. Upon arriving, we were greeted warmly by staff and sat upstairs next to a window. Though the indoors space is a bit small, I think it adds to the charm of the restaraunt. The comfortably decorated space and the savory aroma throughout Spoon create such a warm, homey feel. Outdoor seating is also nicely decorated with fairy lights and cute tables. For appetizers, we started with a 3 cheese scallion mac and the soup of the day, which was a corn chowder. Both were delicious. The mac had a very rich, cheesy flavor, and the scallions and jalapeno bits added the perfect touch of freshness to the dish. As for the corn chowder, it had a very creamy and buttery taste, which paired well with the crab toppings. I will say though, I think the soup could be a bit thicker and hotter. Then, we got our mains. I ordered the Spice Rubbed Organic Chicken legs, which had extremely crispy skin and moist, tender meat, which pretty much fell off the bone! In addition to the chicken, the potatoes that came as a side were seasoned very well and topped with a delicious creamy pesto sauce. The chicken was kind of greasy, though. My mom ordered the Pan Roasted Fish, which was a King Salmon. She raved about how she absolutely loved it -- the skin was extremely crispy and the meat was soft and tender, and the quinoa had a perfect citrusy taste to it, so the dish had a very fresh feel to it. My brother ordered the Linguini and Meatballs, which were also exceptional. At the end of our meal, we shared a Smores brownie dessert, which was just the perfect amount of sweetness. If you plan on coming here, make sure you call ahead to reserve a spot, as there are limited tables. They will then text you the day of your reservation to confirm. There is a very small parking lot (like 3 parking spaces) behind the restaraunt, but it is not a big problem as there are plenty of spaces to park along the roads bear the restaraunt. Spoon is a charming little restaurant that has been wedged into an old cabin. They make excellent use of the limited space. Interior seating is a table for six downstairs and two 2 tops and two 4 tops upstairs in the loft. The loft is up a steep, somewhat narrow staircase. Even the downstairs is up two steps. Folks with mobility issues can enjoy patio dining - which is where most of the seating is anyway. This is not intended as a slam. This building at least 75 years old and was built as a summer cabin. There is no practical way to increase interior accessibility. Even if you could get in, there is no room to maneuver a manual, let alone an electric wheelchair. Our server was friendly and efficient. The wife had the King Salmon which she said was delicious. I had the Linguine and Meatballs. The meatballs were very good; nice texture and density with a nice pan sear. The linguini was oversalted. We also split an excellent Green Goddess salad (plenty to share) and finished with the "Million Dollar Slice". Chocolate, caramel and shortbread goodness. The food was good but a bit pricey for what we got. Next time we will probably go to Zas. read more

Service was welcoming and professional and the food was excellent. I appreciate that they offered not only a selection of vegan apps/entree but also a dessert. The kitchen is a husband/wife team, you can tell they put a lot of thought and heart into their food. I made a reservation here for 10 people back in August for 3pm and called 2 days before my res to confirm since I would be on a boat the day-of and not have signal. Despite this, the hostess was annoyed that I couldn't answer my phone on the day of my reservation. When we showed up, our group was seated at two different tables - one for a party of 4 and one for a party of 6. I was confused on why the tables weren't rearranged so that we could all be seated together - especially when I made a reservation a month in advance and there were only 2 other parties theres at 3pm. The food took a while to come out and to be honest, it was only ok. It tasted very healthy and interesting but not really something I'd try again. I got the pork chop - would probably opt for something else next time. read more

The roasted vegetables were excellent, the potato soup amazing, the beef cheek so tender, the salmon so crispy on the outside and soft on the inside (not overcooked at all), the pork chop also tender and interesting, the Mac and cheese delightful. My only feedback would be the vegan eggplant dip- the dip itself was good but the tortilla chips it comes with are the store bought ones and too salty, it didn't match the dip well imo. Oftentimes I feel bad for the owners when the managers or staff gives bad service. I am positive that if the owner was there they would not have wanted to turn away a large group of people, but since it doesn't affect their finances directly, they are ok with being rude to customers. When we arrived there were many open tables. We were told they couldn't seat us because the kitchen would be backed up, however they offer take out, so how could they fulfill takeout orders but not seated orders. The tables were mostly outside and just metal with metal chairs, nothing fancy. I wouldn't care too much about that, but it was just the attitude when we asked if they could just seat our party at separate tables since they said they didn't have room for 7 of us, and they wouldn't try. I don't like supporting businesses with horrible customer service and attitudes so we won't try to go back. read more

We went with a group of 5 for dinner after the Commons Beach concert on a Sunday night. It's only about 8 minutes south of Tahoe City on the west side in a wooded area. Asked to sit inside as it was a 7:30 pm reservation, but they put us on the main floor next to the open kitchen so the ambiance wasn't as good with people coming in and out and picking up food. (They also have upstairs seating and the outside was cute under the trees but chilly at night.) The restaurant is run by a married couple of former fine dining chefs and they call it "gourmet comfort food" with fresh ingredients which change seasonally. Service was attentive and the chefs really hustle, as we could see from our seats. They don't have a liquor license so it's byob which saves considerable money for big drinking parties. I started with the creamed corn soup special, which was delicious and the best thing I ate. We also had the cheesy chiabatta bread with sharp white cheddar cheese, which was pretty filling (two orders for 5 people). Others ordered the green goddess salad, which didn't arrive until the meal was served (so be sure to specify it's an appetizer). I had the linguini with beef meatballs, with 3 medium meatballs but pretty tasty. Not enough sauce for my liking, just crushed garlic tomatoes and spices ($1 for extra parmesan). Others had the Alaskan salmon special, which was charred on one side and very tender, so they enjoyed it. Served on a pesto veggie medley. Another had the white bean and kale ragout and raved about it. We'd definitely go back if on that side of the lake but sit outside and eat earlier. The food here is phenomenal! Tiny, intimate, creaky small cabin home retrofitted with a kitchen with only 7 tables total. BYOB with no corkage fee is a great deal! If you're looking for a unique, romantic date night idea, Spoon would be the perfect setting. Just because it's so small, a reservation is recommended but I snuck in without one on a random, snowy early evening 5 o clock sitting. The three of us ordered the cassoulet, organic chicken and linguine with meatballs. The dishes were hearty, huge and scrumptious! The meatballs were giant! The andouille sausage in the cassoulet was packed with flavor. The chicken was perfectly moist in both dishes. So filling, I ate it all up! We came with a fairly large group (5 people) and this is a small space, super cozy on the inside and it felt like being in someone's house or bedroom. Really inviting and warm feeling. It's BYOB which is nice for those who indulge, and no cork fee which is quite generous. The food was bomb. Can't go wrong with any of the options. My favorites were the chicken thigh with beans, as well as the scallops (delicious and juicy). Had the millionaire's dessert which is a do not miss. The soup of the day (tomato with crab salad) and the pork chop (big portion, interesting bed of corn and porcini, juicy) were decent. The babaganoush was not worth it and not really recognizably baba - consistency more like creamy hummus, and served with tortilla chips. It's a higher-end restaurant than your average spot, but the experience justifies it, because not only was the service all you could ask for in that tiny cabin, every dish we got was a hit. We did listen to them turn down more people over the phone than there were tables, so plan ahead during ski season! What we got: Poached pear Mac - Somehow balanced the flavors perfectly! Mac and cheese isn't my favorite dish yet it was impressive. Soup - Served with a little bread so everyone got to try. Rich. Linguini and meatballs - Certainly done right. Nothing too crazy. Scallops and asparagus - Wow! Huge standout dish, and was super impressed by the intense flavor of the sauce. Appreciate how the meat was juicy with a good crust. Million dollar slice - Super intense flavors, very sweet. My favorite. Banana cheesecake - More subdued for a cheesecake; my girlfriend's favorite. The moment you step into the restaurant, it feels like having dinner at a great friend's house. We ordered the soup special which was a lovely tomato bisque with cheesy toast. It transported us back to our childhood but was also extremely elevated. We also had the salmon with a side of polenta. The salmon had delicious crispy skin and the polenta was luxuriously creamy. We saved room for dessert and ordered the bread pudding. If you choose to dine here: ALWAYS save room for dessert! You won't regret it. There is some parking in front of the restaurant and on some nearby side streets. Also, there is no alcohol on the menu, so you can bring your own drinks and glasses without any corkage fee. First: Must have reservation! Very small kitchen and staff, plan accordingly. We planned a trip to Tahoe for just one night and really were flying by the seat of our pants. We were looking for dog-friendly restaurants along our route on the map and came across Spoon. Had no idea we needed a reservation and we pulled up at 2:30, 30 minutes before they opened. We were able to go in to grab a reservation for 3:30 so we could walk around and explore a bit. We ordered a few apps, entrees and a few desserts. Really blown away by the food. The carrot curry soup is amazing with a perfect texture and light comforting flavor. Also really loved the herb oil that came with the ciabatta bread, so delicious and refreshing. Everyone loved everything they ordered, including the fish special and linguine meatballs. The mac and cheese app was easily the best mac and cheese I've ever had. The chefs here clearly live their craft, as everything I've ever eaten here has been one of the best meals I've ever had. And I grew up around gourmet food, so I'm not easily impressed when it comes to food. Everything is always perfectly cooked with just the right flavors... and often with creative cuisine that you can't get elsewhere (or if you tried, it would be very underwhelming in comparison). In addition to the amazing food, the atmosphere is lovely -- both indoors and outdoors, and the service is friendly, knowledgeable, and all-around great. And the owners/chefs seem like such wonderful people -- which is a big deal for me, as I prefer to only support businesses run by good people... and given how amazing the cuisine is, that makes it soooooo easy to do here! Oh and if you're thinking to have the meatballs (which are the best ever!) you will be so happy to sub veggies instead of linguini - it has nothing to do with carbs and everything to do with amazing flavor! Easily the most memorable meal I've had in Tahoe! I found Spoon on Yelp, about a week before our trip, and decided to make a dinner reservation because of all the great reviews. I'm so glad I did because our experience was absolutely perfect! We arrived a bit early for our reservation (yes, you need one), but they had a nice little outdoor waiting area to sit in. Once our table was ready, we were seated outside - all their seating is outdoors and dog friendly! The ambiance was incredibly cozy, with cute little string lights, and our server Zhee Zhee was sweet and personable. The staff was very good about bringing over water and even little treats for the dogs. We also brought our own bottle of wine, since Spoon is BYOB. We decided to order a bunch of items to share between the two of us - the Poached Pear-Mac (my favorite, absolutely incredible flavors), Toasted Ciabatta with Herb Oil (very good), Garlicky Sumac Shrimp (also SO flavorful), and 2 Beef Meatballs (my second favorite). All the food was delicious and clearly made with love - it really felt like home-style comfort food. We couldn't skip dessert at this place, so we ordered the Banana Cake with Pineapple Rum Sauce, which was the "decadence of the moment". The cake was genuinely mind-blowing, one of the best I've ever had. We also ordered a Million Dolla Slice to take home with us, and it was delicious the next day (very very rich). Friday night @6:30-7pm party of 5 no reservations and waited 15-20minutes. Indoor and outdoor seating available . Watch out for the mosquitos! As the sun set the mosquitos came by and said hello. I suggest wearing long sleeve shirt and pants, possibly a hat if you don't have hair. I didn't get bit, but my husband did and he wore a short sleeve and no hat. Food was absolutely delicious and flavorful. Seasoned well. 1.) mushroom soup (soft and silky, umami) 2-) shrimp -great and zesty 3.) Chicken legs -juicy and tender 4.) dessert- million dolla slice. I was on the fence about coming to Spoon compared to other Tahoe locations due to it not having a view of the water, but the food and intimacy of an 8 table restaurant was the perfect ambience. Everyone was friendly, enthusiastic and interested in what we had to say. Everything on the menu has its own small twist to a traditional dish that makes it completely original. These chefs know what they're doing, I think that among all the positive feedback I'm giving this place, the food is by far the most impressive part of Spoon. Shoutout to Nicholas, who was extremely attentive to our table, ensuring water was filled, coffee was brought out quickly, and that our food was up to par with their extremely high standards. Cannot recommend this place enough, but make sure to get a reservation. You will know you want to eat here just off the bubbly personality of JC, one of the owners that took our reservation.
