Went here on Valentine's weekend on a ski trip with some friends. Brunch is something my SO and I love to go for dates so we were excited to check this place out! The place itself is quite small with limited parking, but everyone is nice and kind and they have little buzzers to notify you when your table is ready :) I got the French toast with strawberries and oh my goodness it was DELICIOUS. The French toast was a perfect blend of fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside. The bread itself was amazing. I opted in for some fresh strawberries, but you can get other fruit or a fruit syrup as well. The French toast also comes with warm maple syrup, and I can attest it was definitely warm. It made the whole eating experience feel luxurious, and I had a delightful time eating it all up. If I ever come back to Lake Tahoe for holiday, I will definitely need to swing by this place to experience this French toast again. So good! read more

I genuinely don't understand the hype around this place. I've been to Fire sign Cafe a handful of times over the years, and every visit reinforces the same conclusion: this is easily one of the most overrated restaurants on this side of the lake. Yes, it's busy. Constantly. But being busy isn't an excuse to treat customers like an inconvenience. The staff comes off as rude, dismissive, and borderline annoyed that you're even there. There's a difference between being efficient and being openly unpleasant, and Firesign misses that line every time. The atmosphere feels more like you're being tolerated than welcomed. For a spot that people rave about, the service is shockingly bad and the attitude feels baked into the culture of the place. It's almost unbelievable how consistently unfriendly it is. There are far better options in Tahoe City with good food and staff who don't act like they're doing you a favor. I've given this place multiple chances, and it hasn't earned any more. read more

OMG this place is so cuteeeeeee. Perfect Tahoe log cabin lunch spot, with those retro Americana vibes. They have a wide ranging menu of breakfast and lunch dishes, and daily specials -- different kinds of fresh baked coffee cake, cobbler, etc. We had a grilled cheese on marble rye with mustard, tomato and sautéed onions. It came with nacho chips, fresh salsa and pickle. So good. Strawberry chocolate chip coffee cake was served warm with butter, super fresh and yummy. Hot chocolate was soulful and rich. It's one of those places where the wait is worth it. Everything about the name says it all, Fire Signs are creative. I knew the sandwich I was getting would be nothing like I've had before - and I wasn't disappointed. Except, I ate the whole thing there and didn't take any home. Had a delicious breakfast at this no frills cozy mountain cafe! The menu boasted a lot of tasty sounding options and prices seemed fair, around $15-$20/person. Two of us easily shared the West Shore Special. The flavors were excellent and the portion could have been shared between three people! I came here for Sunday brunch with a big group of friends and we were told that the wait would be pretty long. We decided to wait it out and I was really glad we did. For parties waiting, they kind of encourage checking out their coffee shop next to the restaurant and many of my friends and I did order a drink during our wait. I got a peppermint mocha and it was definitely one of the best mochas I've had in a while. Once our table was ready, we were greeted with kind staff. I ordered a Rubicon Scramble for myself and my table also got two cobblers to share after our meal. Whenever I go to brunch, I enjoy a savory, egg-heavy meal, so I've had my fair share of omelettes and scrambles. The Rubicon Scramble was one of my favorite eggy breakfasts to date. Potatoes on the side were okay and I got the baked item of the day, which was a raisin coffee cake. That was okay as well; the scramble got the gold star. I was extremely heartbroken when I left the restaurant and realized I had left my boxed up leftover scramble behind on accident. Both cobblers were also amazing. We came by this café on a Sunday around 11 AM it was pretty packed, but was seated within about 8 minutes, which wasn't bad given the weekend crowd. We ordered the Baker's Benedict, which came with a flavorful sausage patty, perfectly poached eggs, and a rich, creamy hollandaise sauce that tied everything together well. Also tried the Fire Sign Crepes : almost like a burrito wrapped in crepes, filled with scrambled eggs, sautéed mushrooms, & cheese, also topped with hollandaise. The side of potatoes was crispy & well-seasoned. Out here in Tahoe and we always like trying new spots to eat. Came across this cute gem. You know when there is a lot of people waiting outside to be seated the food must be good. Our wait was about 20-25 minutes and glad we waited. The food was Absolutely Delicious. I ordered the Rubicon scramble. Sausage onions Bell peppers and cheddar cheese. I highly recommend. While waiting to be seated some guy walks out and tell us try the french toast it wont disappoint (it was a sign) and thats what we did. Is was really good nice thick slices. Ask for the cinnamon to sprinkle on top. Our server was really nice and very attentive to our needs. The restaurant looks like it was a house at one time or another. We were looking for a place to have brunch on a recent Sunday and since we had heard good things about Fire Sign Cafe we decided to go there. We're glad we did! Here are some of the things we noted: - We arrived at 11am on a Sunday and were told that the wait would be close to an hour...it ended up being 45 minutes, but we didn't mind since it gave us a little more time for us to chat, walk through the market across the street, sit by the lake, etc. Be aware, though, that there isn't much seating in the back for while you wait. And, parking was a bit tight...you may need to park on one of the local side streets. - We were seated outdoors, which was really pleasant and not as loud as it seemed in doors. - The menu was massive...lots of specials too. Prices are what you would expect along the lake. - The three of us each ordered Bloody Mary's, which were really good. In terms of food, I got the Smoked Salmon Omelette, my wife ordered the Breakfast Burrito, and our daughter ordered the Kielbasa Scramble. The portions were very large and we each enjoyed our dishes. I would say, however, that the Burrito was the standout best of the three. Two of us ordered the baked item of the day, in this case the cranberry cinnamon coffee cake. It was good, but not as moist as I would have liked. - Service was pretty good. Someone came to our table as soon as we sat down to take drink orders. We did have to flag someone down at a point to refill our water glasses. And, it took quite a while for our food to come out but we expected that given the crowd on a Sunday (plus, it just gave us more time to be together). - My one pet peeve was that the tip calculator they print on your bill calculates tip options starting at 18% and based on the after-tax balance, not the pre-tax sub-total which is generally more appropriate. And, there is a 1% TBID assessment that is also added to the bill but not explained anywhere. Bottom line: Great place with great food. Family style café nestled between the trees on the North Wester shore of Lake Tahoe. The interior is cozy and inviting with 2 Levels. The Service is good and the Servers are friendly. They feature a full bar. They have lots of indoor as well as outdoor seating in a large open backyard where every table has an umbrella. Really pleasant to sit out on a sunny day. They have a good amount of menu options. My party and i waited about 10 min to be seated on a Monday morning in summer around 10am. The restaurant was packed. Parking can be somewhat difficult. I ordered a smoked salmon omelette with home fried potatoes and home made banana bread. I also got an iced hazelnut latté with Oat milk. The omelette is made with 3 eggs. The Salmon is house smoked. The omelette comes with Havarti dill cheese and tomato and Topped with sour cream. The smoked salmon was delicious and the omelette had lots of gooey cheese. On the other hand, i asked for crispy potatoes. However the potatoes were under cooked, almost raw and tasteless. The banana bread was fresh and very tasty. The iced latté was excellent. We left this restaurant feeling deeply disappointed and honestly hurt. While dining, we noticed that white families with children were offered coloring pages and crayons. When one family left, another white family was immediately offered the same kids' activities. My son, however, was never offered anything -- not by the host and not by our server. In addition, when we received our check, it was not presented in a booklet like it was for the white family seated next to us. Instead of being handed to us, it was placed directly on our dirty table. Meanwhile, the family beside us received their check properly presented and handed to them. The difference in treatment was noticeable and uncomfortable. As an Asian family, it felt like we were treated differently simply because of who we are. No child should feel overlooked, and no family should feel unwelcome while dining out. We hope management reflects on this and ensures that all guests are treated with equal respect and hospitality. read more

Mine was slightly over seasoned but still tasted yummy and satisfying. We ordered it to go since they do not allow dogs inside, but it was perfect weather to enjoy the trees around. Later I ended up with a stomach ache from the chipotle chicken but hey it happens sometimes. They have a really large menu that anyone can find something to eat. We came in on a Saturday morning for brunch, but we were seated around 12:30PM after a 45min wait so brunch turned into lunch. LOL. It was the weekend before the 4th of July weekend but they were still packed. I recommend coming in early. Good thing there's like a convenience store across the street so that's where we waited and grabbed a cup of coffee. Food was okay, there wasn't anything special about it really. I got the eggs benedict and there was nothing special about it, it was good though! My friends all got different kinds of dishes so we could all try each other's orders but nothing really stood out. Service was good, our server was really nice but because we were seated in a corner we had to wait so long just to get noticed for water, more napkins etc. The place is cramped and had the homey feel into it which we liked, it matches well with Tahoe's vibe. I'd say on our next trip to Tahoe, we will opt to a different place and hopefully fulfill our plan for an actual brunch! read more

*CELIAC / GLUTEN FREE REVIEW definitely a lot of hoops to jump through to get a safe meal. It is a small kitchen, and they do offer GF options, but for celiacs that list is much smaller. The menu isn't marked, and the staff will make a note of the allergy, saying the kitchen will try their best. It's a shared fryer, griddle, and toaster. That takes out potatoes, tortillas toasted on the griddle or fried, French toast, and GF bread; and they even warned me about the eggs. I took the risk with the eggs, asking if they "could do anything possible to reduce CC, maybe preparing in a separate pan?" - with that said, I'm not sure if they did or not, but I did not get sick. I got the huevos rancheros with no tortillas and tried the untoasted GF bread as it's made locally. The bread was okay, and the huevos rancheros were good, but not worth the risk. I think this is a great option if you're gluten intolerant, but not if you're celiac. read more

We decided to drive over from NW Reno for lunch because of the great reviews. We were not disappointed. I had the 1/2 Cobb Salad that had so many wonderful fresh ingredients. My hubby had 1/2 Greek Salad and really enjoyed it. The only issue is the tables are so close together that I felt like we were part of the couples conversation that were next to us. While we always stay at Incline Village when visiting Tahoe, we make a point of driving over to Tahoe City for lunch at the Fire Sign Cafe. Over the years we have been coming here, we have found consistently good food and good service. Make that great food and great service. DH was delighted with his lunch option during our fall visit: Turkey Club Sandwich which was traditional in style and a cup of Loaded Baked Potato Soup. He substituted the soup for the usual chips and salsa. Only a $2 additional charge. I always appreciate half-size salads. You can't go wrong with Fire Sign's Spinach Salad with mushroom, red onion, hard boiled egg, warm chopped bacon, toasted almonds, and a warm housemade dressing. It is hard for me to pass up a homemade bakery treat. The special of the day was a berry muffin. It was the kind of muffin I grew up with. Texture was "muffin perfect" -- although I imagine folks who have grown up with grocery store muffins would wonder why it was not more like a cupcake in texture. Not overly sweet. Had vegan options but not many or great ones unfortunately. For breakfast I had a tofu scramble with dry bread (no vegan butter option). It wasn't terrible but it wasn't great. Very tofu heavy and I had hoped for more vegetables. There was cooked spinach dropped on top and not mixed within. I think they could definitely make it better, more fresh and appetizing to look at with colored veggies. It did end up upsetting my stomach a bit later. Was super disappointed I couldn't even get a side of potatoes. We were told they were premade and had butter mixed in. Making fresh potatoes without butter was not an option apparently. This felt surprising since it's a restaurant after all but alas I took what I could get. Fresh squeezed OJ was good. Cozy little spot. But likely wouldn't come here again by choice.
