We came here because we were passing by Truckee and also because food network featured them with Guy Fiery that my husband like. The food wasn't as expected out of all the food we have ordered the only good food that we probably had were the pancakes... the service was good and the ambiance was a typical Diner

Food be pricey in Truckee and in most cases pretty average. And while I would say Jax is in line with those sentiments, it still was a fun, nostalgic meal out with their train car vibes and fairly big portions. We sadly missed brunch by a bit, so we had to do lunch. The kids pizza was saucy and honestly not kid friendly at all since I feel like most kids hate tomato sauce. The kids burger came as 2 sliders and were fine. My corned beef has was huge, salty, but on the fattier side. It was solid, but I probably wouldn't order again. My husband's blt was pedestrian but fine. Overall, solid. I think one comes here for breakfast or the huge burgers, which next time I think I'd try. Overall, for Truckee brunch not a bad option, per se with a large menu for all in an old-timey diner vibe.

Breakfast with family visiting from Southern California on a ski trip. The fried steak and eggs was not the typical chicken fried steak and eggs as the meat was not "pounded" prior to frying. Large portions. Quick service. Quieter before 10 am. Ample free parking on a Saturday before 10 am. Nice to grab a bite and take a stroll through town.

Deep fried, fatty, oily, greasy, bready. Made me feel a little ill afterwards. I don't have much else to say.

Food is really good however i can only speak to breakfast. Had the crab cake Benedict- they use real blue lump crab meat and they have their own homemade English muffins. The corned beef hash was some of the best i've had - really tasty and the corned beed was more in chunks rather than shredded which i like better The chicken with the chicken and waffles was excellent - very tasty AND MOIST ! With the chicken and waffle plate they almost give you too much food ( waffle, chicken, 2 eggs and plenty of bacon. Could easily split that for 2 people. One improvement- offer spicy syrup for the chicken and waffles . Coffee is very good and service was great even with only one person waiting.

Party of 7 around 2pm on a Saturday, basically no wait time although it was busy! It's a huge restaurant so wasn't hard to get a table. We were greeted with waters but it took a while for the waiter to come back to actually take our food order. The southern fried steak was not good the crust slips right off and the steak wasn't that tender-cut-with-fork I typically have with country fried steak, I also tried to swap the country potatoes in for the hash browns but they don't allow that. Overall, it was a warm stop to get out of the snow and was a decent lunch.

This is a great breakfast spot whether you're dining alone or with a group. My husband and I decided to take our four-year-old here since he's obsessed with trains AND breakfast! They have a vast menu; I got the biscuits and gravy (delicious)! My son got his beloved Oscar's, bacon, and scrambled eggs. My husband got a chicken fried steak. The service was great and the food was prepared fresh and it was tasty. Solid experience.

Chicken Pot Pie was pretty good. The flavor could have been better. There is a large variety of items.

FOOD: Okay, bacon was super fatty and eggs were a bit weird feeling--almost rubbery. Chicken felt not super crispy and flavorful, almost like what I had in college dining hall chicken strips. Waffle was just a normal waffle. AMBIANCE: very cute, 50s diner vibe. In a nice location but keep in mind that the noise amplifies in here and many people take their kids here so it can be loud. SERVICE: Warning: I had a hair in my food and they were not super apologetic about it but they made me a new serving supposedly. It could be better but then again my standards were not super high here LOL There are better places in Truckee--you go here mainly for the nice diner feel, so just keep that in mind.

The chicken tenders were delicious and tender the service was a little slow but friendly the chicken pot pie was not a pleaser and a little dry. The ambience is amazing there giving that classic diner vibe overall was fine

Our huge family party of 16 went here as the last brunch spot on the way back to the Bay Area after a winter trip. It's a busy area, but there was a fairly good-size parking lot right next to Jax, and we all found parking on President's Day morning. After the bizarre shortage of eggs (grocery stores were sold out all weekend), we were all craving some lol! I was feeling adventurous and built my own omelette with goat cheese, bacon, and jalapenos. Also ordered their home made English muffin, and everything was delicious. Service was excellent! Some of the other great choices were Bloody Mary, Clam Chowder, and Eggs Benedict. Thank you Jax for a great brunch experience!

Came here with a large group and the place was able to fit all of us and were accommodating. While we didn't all sit at one table we were in 3 booths all next to each other. I got an Irish coffee. I'm used to it coming in a mug with a dollop of cream on top but this came in a milkshake glass with a huge amount of cream on top. Weirdly it didn't come with a straw but the server was nice and got me one. The breakfast menu had a mix of omelettes, a monte Cristo, hashes, Benedict's, etc. I was quite happy with my dish. I got an all day addiction which was basically a tasty salad on top of hash browns. The salad had a balsamic dressing and came with some roasted tomatoes. I'm not a huge breakfast person and was glad I could get more of a lunch item.

    The ambiance

The food is good, the service was great every time and the ambiance?? It's a diner car diner, that's awesome and they play great music It's a throwback to years past and me and my family are here for it! Always stop here when we are in town

It wasn't quite as good as I remembered. That said, the cheese sauce and ground mustard were great complements. On the beer side, I tried their Contradiction (Golden Mocha Stout), which was very good. I also had their Hazy IPA - Chance of Clouds, and that was excellent as well--actually better than I remembered. As we were leaving, they were getting ready for a Friday night trivia event and the place was starting to fill up quickly. It had a fun, lively atmosphere. Overall, I'd recommend stopping by and would definitely return.

The mushroom quinoa veggie burger and the half-pound cheeseburger are our go-to orders and have never let us down. The coffee roasted carrots are genuinely worth ordering. They're not what you'd expect, and they're good enough that we've ordered them the last two times. The 10 oz. bistro filet is worth trying if you're in the mood for something more substantial. Portions are solid without being excessive. The bar is a real draw. Full bar, decent wine list, and the service at the bar is attentive without being pushy. The cocktails are well made. The old fashioned in the photo says everything you need to know. What surprised us most: the to-go orders are actually good. We've been burned by to-go from places we love before, so this was a pleasant surprise. Quality holds up. They take reservations and handle groups well. Go ahead and book ahead if you're coming on a weekend. Get the carrots. Order a cocktail at the bar while you wait for your table.

Usually our absolute fave! But quality is slipping. Not sure why... and so sad about it!…read more This place has been so special to us for years. Amazing service. Dynamite and delicious food. The best roasted carrots (usually!) But the other night we took friends there after raving. Hats off to the amazing host for seating us even though we accidentally made the wrong reservation date (their friendly service is still stellar!!) My pork chop was overcooked even after saying let the chef decide how to cook it. Dry and hard to cut. The normally amazing roasted carrots? Meh. Had a strange taste we didn't like. Maybe the coffee rub? Just seemed hard and flavorless. And my husband and son shared a ribeye that was overdone even though they asked for medium rare. Too tough on outside for sure. The mashed potatoes still rock. And they were out of TWO their signature cocktails. Poor planning? Or take it off the menu. Not sure if the chef or management has changed but I really really hope they get it back together. As I said, this place has meant a lot to us over the years. Hope it was just an off night?
