What a great find here in Truckee! We happened to stumble upon Alibi when another beer hall ended up being closed for the night and were happy we did. Alibi was a cool spot with awesome wall art inside their bar and in the adjacent dining area. You order at the bar and can choose either scene to enjoy your food and drinks. The dining hall was more lit and made a cozy spot to catch up with friends without too much loud noise. I ordered their seasonal Asian Wonton Salad ($15) with a sweet dressing and loads of cabbage, carrots, and onions, and it was a refreshing bite to pair with my draft beer. Drinks were fairly prices and had a great selection of local choices. If I'm ever back in warmer weather, would definitely enjoy checking out the outside patios. read more

I had quite literally the worst experience I've ever had at any establishment in my life at this place on Thursday, July 9th. My fiancé and I were celebrating our ENGAGEMENT with a party of 9. We had been looking forward to this place for SO long and were so excited to spend an entire evening here. For VERY important context, both my fiancé and I were restaurant and bar managers for several years. Neither of us have ever raised our voice at anybody working at a restaurant, bar, etc. We are literally an entire crew of service workers or former service workers who are very respectful of the entire industry and its practices. When we walked up, the older blonde woman working the front was extremely hostile and rude from the jump. I was trying to ask questions about the venue, food options, etc before we went in, and she began barking at us for IDs immediately. Not a single hi, welcome in, etc. Just immediately aggressive. My fiancé, who is 27, gave her his Oregon ID. Considering this state is literally a few hours away, you would think they are fairly familiar with this ID, but apparently not! She began aggressively and repeatedly bending the ID to the point we sincerely thought it was going to snap it in half. Despite it being obviously real after looking at it under a light (Oregon has very specific and complicated patterns, it's widely known as the hardest ID to make a fake of), she said she didn't believe that it was real. We were a bit baffled, and insisted it definitely was. She asked my partner what his zip code was, and because we had just moved, he gave her our current zip before realizing she meant the one on his ID. She laughed and said "nope, i'm keeping this! This is a fake". She said because he said the zip code wrong, she wasn't going to give it back. At this point I got angry. I told her that 1. It is 1000% a real ID and 2. It is completely illegal to hold somebody's ID hostage. Her and her coworker got really defensive and told me to "just calm down" despite her continuously bending it and laughing. She kept saying "I'm allowed to keep it if it's fake" which it WASNT. It is completely illegal what she was doing. This is THEFT OF PROPERTY, so I was absolutely not going to calm down. My fiancé called his parents to hopefully get a photo of his passport to diffuse the situation. The older woman who was holding us hostage demanded to TAKE HIS PHONE and speak to his mom. She then grabbed it and walked all the way down the sidewalk, spinning around and giggling. It was one of the most bizarre things I had ever witnessed, and frankly, we believe she was intoxicated. Her coworkers looked incredibly embarrassed and wouldn't even make eye contact with us. She finally came back and we took the ID and phone back from her. She never once apologized for stealing our property, almost breaking it, and falsely accusing us of committing a crime. Not even an inkling of remorse. Just giggling. I told her how absolutely unprofessional and illegal everything she just did was. Luckily, we have legal resources that we will absolutely be exploring this week, because no patron deserves to be held hostage, have their property stolen, and not even receive an apology. Not only did RMU tarnish what was supposed to be one of the happiest nights of our lives, they lost out on thousands of dollars (that we spent elsewhere that night) from our party because their hostess had a major power trip. To make matters even worse, we had other folks join up with us later that night who also stopped by RMU and had equally unpleasant experiences. They all said that the same rude hostess was bending the ever loving life out of their IDs and being incredibly snarky. read more

Solid happy hour, good smash burgers. I'm more likely to order a burger medium-rare than to order a smash burger, but theirs was tasty. The duck fat fries were good, but I'd prefer them without the smathering of garlic, because it masks the duck fat flavor. They are pretty pricey for the casual ambience and plating, but their happy hour specials make it worthwhile. If you happen to catch them on a Sunday, they have solid burger deals as well. Don't bother with the fried chicken sandwich, the center came undercooked and the fry was slightly soggy, so not worth it. read more

This was my first trip on this side of town. And I'm very happy to have the experience to eat at this unique restaurant/bar. When you walk in there's a sign stating come to the bar to order food/drinks. Also sit wherever you'd like. Okay cool did that some tables were dirty but still plenty of space to sit. Staff were very nice and friendly. We arrived in time for happy hour and I'm glad I did. I ended up getting their burger from the happy hour. It was hands down the best burger I've had in a looonnng time. If you're in the area stop by to try the burger. Also the duck fries were also very tasty and unique. This place is a different vibe that's for sure, I wasn't sure we were even in the right spot as when we entered what looked like an old house....we go inside and see a tiny band area, then a small bar area with a pitbull sitting in a bar stool at the bar. I thought we haven't found the right place....you have to go over to the carriage house outside to order your meal and get the good drinks. This place is tiny but somehow fit our party of 13 on a Saturday afternoon! We were sitting outside on the deck first, which was fine with the space heaters but then luckily we were able to snag a spot inside after a little while. Despite the big party, our food started coming out within 15 minutes and it smelled delicious. Honestly didn't have a bad dish but some highlights were the grilled cheese with tomato soup (even the kids version was top notch and full size portion), the Calabrian chili aioli with duck fat fries, bourbon honey brussels sprouts, and the macaroni & cheese! Wouldn't recommend, due to overcharging and not great food, especially given the extra charges. They charge a 20% auto-tip for parties of 5+ even though you order at the bar and the waiters don't bring silverware or waters. And then they add an extra 3% charge to use a credit card... The burgers were fine but not as good as In N Out or Habit Burger (but 3-4x the price). Just burger and a bun without lettuce or sauce. Fried chicken was a bit burned (all 3 orders). We visited RMU Truckee for lunch on our way to purchase lotto tickets. The bar and restaurant are located in a beautiful victorian era home, turned hotel, turned RMU and bike shop. The bar and restaurant is inviting and Ashley was a great help with the menu. We ordered and waited inside to eat, looking at the layout of the building and enjoying the view of the carriage house and railroad across the street. We had the blta on ciabatta, perfectly made, great house made sauce and fresh but fries and we also tried the RMU burger, double smash burger style patties, housemaids sauce and fixings, also tasted fantastic and came with the well made house cut fries. While taking care of some things in Truckee we decided to have an early in Truckee and after some false starts in other places we chose to come to RMU Truckee. Even though the other places looked good I was more than happy to have to "settle" for this place. The place is in an old house and is split between a bar and a shop. The bar area is small but we were happy to find a spot at the bar. We were promptly greeted by Brooklyn and she lets us know what the specials and drafts were. Everything on the menu looked super tasty and we ended up going with the daily special of Wild Mushroom and Root Vegetable Curry with Chicken, the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich with Duck Fat Fries and a cup of Tomato Bisque. Just by seeing the curry and other things on the regular menu we figured this wasn't your typical bar fare and man we were right. Everything we ate here was super delicious. The curry was a huge portion with the curry served over rice and was very cozy and filling. The soup was thick and creamy, chicken on the sandwich was perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside and served on a light and fluffy brioche bun, and the duck fat fries were decadent and garlicky. Everything blew us away and we were so happy to be able to taste some really great food. Their cocktail menu had some really great sounding drinks but didn't get any cocktails this time but did have a perfectly poured Guinness. Cute little place. Don't go on a hot day. There's no AC and it gets HOT. We had the chicken wings and they are the FULL wings. That was a bit off putting to have to break apart our own wings. Just spend the money to get the pre-cut wings. Ahi tuna wasn't cool enough for our liking and we had to wait an insane amount of time for our mac n cheese (it was like it was forgotten). Wowie! What a meal. We stopped in for a friend's birthday who was having a craving for a smash burger. We entered the back bar and were greeted by the bartenders upon entry. It is a nice cozy room with a classic wood fired stove making you feel right at home. For appetizers we had the artichoke dip and the beet salad. Neither disappointed. For our mains the burger and a French dip. While I wouldn't call it a traditional smash burger as the patties were a little too large for that classification in my opinion the flavors were definitely on point. The meat was perfectly seasoned with a tangy sauce and a toasted bun to compliment. The duck fat fries that accompanied were also a home run. The French dip was described to me as "surprisingly juicy". The bartenders were extremely friendly, efficient and masters of their craft. We came for dinner and sat in the Carriage House which has a great vibe. The space is cozy and fun. The bar in the main house looked cool too but doesn't have much seating beyond the bar itself. The food (which you need to order at the bar) is excellent! The Buffalo wings were among the best I've had. The Caesar with shrimp was perfect. We were very disappointed with our experience at RMU. The food was honestly terrible. We ordered the Nashville hot chicken sandwich, which was not good at all. It was severely lacking any sauce and actual chicken- about 90% of the sandwich was breading. It was dry, over-fried, and unpleasant to eat. The burger was equivalent to a basic fast food burger, but without any vegetables whatsoever, which made it even more underwhelming for the price. The kids chicken tenders were just as bad as the sandwich- again, about 90% breading and over fried to the point of being burnt. Our child wouldn't eat them. Was excited to come to RMU as I'm familiar with the brand but left with utter disappointment. The employees are nice, the atmosphere is cute, but the food was absolutely the worst food we have eaten in years. The chicken sandwich was 90% breading and burned beyond edibility, no sauce on it at all and just plain disgusting. The chicken nuggets were also burned to a black color and my kids couldn't eat them either. Salad was as soggy as they get but tasted fine, smash burger was the only edible thing and was not special. $100 to feed a family of four during happy hour and I cannot explain how mediocre the food was. Really hate giving reviews like this and I'm sure the bar is fun for drinking but this food is the worst I've had in recent memory. Will not be coming back or recommending to anyone. read more
