Wow, what an amazing dining experience! We originally had a reservation for 8 and somehow ended up arriving with a party of around 14. Our group wasn't exactly the easiest or most gracious crowd that evening, but the staff handled everything with so much patience and did their best to accommodate us. They even managed to seat everyone together. Bless them for dealing so graciously with a few of the more difficult and admittedly embarrassing members of our party. The restaurant itself is cozy and elevated, with bar, indoor, and outdoor seating. It's the perfect upscale Italian spot in Truckee and easily one of the nicer dining experiences we had. And the FOOD! We ordered a little bit of everything. The focaccia was baked to perfection, and every pasta we tried was amazing. My personal favorite was the spaghetti, along with another pasta with nuts that I unfortunately can't remember the name of. The salads were generous, incredibly fresh, and had that true farm to table feel. The squash blossoms were hands down the best I've ever had. We literally kept ordering more because they were THAT good. The pizza was also cooked perfectly. We had several bottles of both red and white wine, and everything we tried was delicious. Read the bad reviews before you come here. That's where the truth lies. I was optimistic after seeing the good reviews and pictures, but wow, what a letdown. The pricing is actually insane. $36 for a pasta dish, plus another 6% surcharge? What is this, SF? Except even SF pasta isn't this expensive. I got the rigatoni alla vodka and wow. I had to question whether the noodles were even put into water because they were so hard and stuck to my teeth. Honestly, they were inedible. The sauce was just meh. My partner got the bolognese, and his noodles were so sticky and gummy. Perhaps they boiled his for the extra 7 minutes that mine desperately needed. As someone else mentioned, the staff was not engaging. It felt like a burden having them come to the table. And when I left pretty much all of my pasta on the plate, no one asked if everything was okay or if I didn't like it when they took it away. I felt so bad I wasted money at this place. read more

Our server was very sweet! On to the food - absolutely excellent! There were five of us and every single dish was incredible. The chicken milanese was perfectly crisp yet juicy inside with a mountain of arugula, cherry tomatoes, and parmesan. We all loved it. Came here as my friends and I were headed back from a Tahoe trip. Came here on a Sunday night and the place was packed, I definitely recommend getting a resy if you are in the area! We all got a combo of a bunch of different dishes. We started with the Caesar salad (was amazing!) and the meatballs which were the perfect amount of rich but cozy. For mains we all got an assortment of pasta and shared the special of the night, which was the chicken parm pizza (yum!). I got the rigatoni, which comes in a spicy vodka sauce, which was delicious, rich, and comforting. Overall, I can't wait to come back here! We asked for the Chef's Menu and were thrilled with all four courses and the WINE PAIRINGS were terrific! Where I was taken aback - even as a Bay Area visitor - were the prices. 30+ for a 14" pizza, nearly $40 for a small pasta dish; we spent over $300 for three adults and two young kids with only two drinks, no dessert. We shared the prosciutto pizza as an app. The finely sprinkled cheese on the crust was a game changer. Unfortunately the pizza had balsamic on it which I do not like. It did not state it had on the menu, so I probably would have chose another pizza. Everyone enjoyed their entrees. The chicken looked delicious. I ordered the tagliatelle. This place was hopping on a Friday night! Love the indoor and outdoor setup and the vibe. Like any place going off the hook, it was hard to hear. I couldn't tell if they had some sound absorbing things on the ceiling but if not, maybe an idea? Ok to the food...The beef carpaccio packed a punch of flavor! Especially if you combine the beef, arugula salad, aioli, parm and truffle shavings on the fresh made flatbread in one bite - yum! The brick oven Margherita pizza was very good and I love that fresh ingredient taste. I was torn between pasta or pizza so will have to go back and try some pasta next time. The person next to me had hot salami pizza and that actually looked really scrumptious as well. Grilled broccolini was also good and would recommended - although I would prefer a little more time on the grill to get some char and to make it less al dente. The server/bartender I had, Liz, is probably the friendliest and best customer service I have ever received. 5 Stars for her and she deserves a raise!! I hear they are opening up a second location in Reno at the Rancharra maybe later this year which I am really looking forward to if that is true. You don't know exactly what will be on the feast but I highly recommend it. It's a little noisy inside but outside it can be a bit cool when the sun goes down. It was loud...hard industrial walls with concrete floors and not much soft materials to absorb sound. My meal was probably the most salty italian food I have ever had. Why does it take a 15 minute line to get to the host stand every time? From the outside, it looks unassuming...has a very industrial warehouse feel with both indoor and outdoor seating. The kitchen is open so you can see the chefs preparing the food, which was cool. The staff was friendly, attentive and conversational. Drinks were so good!!We had a selection of (almost all) appetizers, all amazingly delicious!! They gave us a free plate of lobster ravioli--DELICIOUS!! For dinners we had a selection of their fresh pastas and pizza. What more can I say about the food??? Delicious!!! We've given Great Gold a few chances, and this last visit was it for us. The food is good, but the prices are already high and then they tack on a surcharge on top of the bill, plus extra charges for everything -- even dipping sauces and parmesan cheese. The wine pours are tiny to the point of being laughable, and the whole experience just feels like getting nickel-and-dimed. If owners want to fund employee benefits, they should build that into their margins and menu pricing, not sneak it in as another fee at the end of the night. Starting from the appetizers ,all the way to the main course ( tested two other family member's meals ) , they were maxed out in saturated fats. How can any restaurant think that creating foods like these would actually please a modern, health conscious , urban crowd. One can bring out flavors in smarter ways , without resorting to traditional ways that may have worked 30 years ago . You can't go wrong with anything on the menu, really, but a few of our favourites are the sunflower caesar salad, penne with burrata, beet ravioli, ragu, and gelato with mint and olive oil. The staff is always on point and knowledgeable. We will be back as this has recently been happily re-added to our go-to list. The reason for 4 stars is the quality seems to vary. The crust was great and I love the amount of garlic it had. I got the pork belly meatballs and the sunflower Caesar salad. The meatballs were so tasty and the white beans were an unexpected pairing that was delicious. The salad had the perfect crunch and flavor. Unfortunately we were all full so we didn't try any of their desserts but I bet they were also great. Service was good. We tried to call in and/or order online but it wasn't available. The hostess had to go to the back to ask the chef if they would allow a take out order and we were lucky enough to get our order approved. Heard some parties come in after to dine in and the wait was about an hour. I would have loved to stay and eat in as it was such a nice place! We ordered 2 pizzas - the prosciutto and arugula and the Bianca. We all seemed to like the prosciutto and arugula more but were also big arugula fans. We also got the pizza sauces but didn't think it was really worth it. Tasted like a homemade ranch sauce with lots of dill. We also got 2 pastas - the spaghetti and the rigatoni. I'm not a big fan of spaghetti but the rest of the party I shared the food with seemed to like both. The wait for takeout was about 20 mins. I'd come back to dine in and for the pizzas! Ordered food online for pickup and it was late. I waited around for another 10-15 mins and when I went back to the host, I overheard a conversation she was having with another customer they had given the wrong order to. Curious, I spoke to him and he said he opened the food, started and realized it wasn't his, so he brought it back. That ended up being my order, and the host tried to give me the opened/returned food. She was irritated that I refused the food and asked me how I wanted to resolve. Our waiters were very kind and outgoing, excellent service throughout the night. I ordered the Burrata Margarita pizza and boy was that good! The dough and crust were baked perfectly, crispy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. The cheese and basil were fresh and generous. And how could I forget the piles of shredded cheese on top. Out friend got the gluten free pasta and they said it was one of the best if not the best GF pastas they ever had.
