Half Pound Angus Cheeseburger

Came here for lunch with a girlfriend, food was better than I thought for a golf course restaurant - waitress was attentive and we got our drinks and food pretty quickly. Tried an apple mimosa for the first time and I didn't hate it! We sat on the patio and the weather was perfect, nice Tahoe feel ended up being about $40 per person - the only odd thing was the chairs seemed a little low for the height of the table - I mean we aren't the tallest girls but it felt a little off

We came to Spindleshanks (what a name!) after an exhausting day of skiing. They have a diverse menu sure to satisfy all different cravings. I wanted protein and a simple prep. The pork chop was perfect. It was served medium and has just enough flat for that flavor. It was accomplished with an assortment of steam vegetables. I didn't think I would be able to finish such a large portion but it was too delish to leave any on my plate. The service was very personable and professional. The setting was very comfortable with a big fireplace in the dining room Spindleshank is a definitely worth a try.

North Lake Tahoe Hidden Gem! If you're looking for a more casual, laid-back restaurant with excellent food and an incredible wine selection, Spindleshanks in Tahoe Vista is definitely worth giving a try. Everything we had was excellent, from the fresh Virginia oysters on the half shell to the braised pork shank and even the German pork schnitzel was zer gut! Seriously, 5-star food without 5-star prices. The portions were generous, everything was beautifully prepared, and the quality really stood out. The service was just as good. Everyone was friendly and attentive without constantly hovering over the table, which I really appreciate. And if you're a wine lover, their wine list is impressive. Three pages with a huge selection at just about every price point. The cocktails were generous too! It's a little tucked away on the Old Brockway Golf Course and easy to drive right past, but don't. Spindleshanks is one of those North Lake Tahoe hidden gems that's absolutely worth finding. We'll definitely be back!

Whenever we're staying in Tahoe City, we usually cook all our meals in the cabin, but we decided to splurge this time and enjoy a meal out with our group. We didn't need a reservation for our group of 7, and we were seated right away. It's a small dining room that's connected to a larger bar area, but it's quite intimate and cozy. We started with the steamed mussels, bbq beer prawns, and the salad special, which came with arugula, brie, pears, and caramelized hazelnuts. The mussels were some of the best I've ever had, so tender and juicy with the most delicious buttery sauce! Extra bread was necessary to soak up all the flavorful sauce. The prawns were okay, flavor was great but the shrimp were a little overcooked. The salad was nicely balanced with the earthy cheese, sweet caramel, and freshness from the pears and arugula. I got the short ribs for my entrée, the meat was pretty tender, but I wish the slices were thicker with the bone in. The short rib sauce was rich and flavorful, and paired well with the mashed potatoes and veggies. It was fine, it didn't stand out among any other short rib entrée I've ever had. The seafood linguine was probably the biggest portion of pasta that I've ever seen get served in a restaurant. The pasta was overcooked in my opinion, but the seafood was all cooked really well - mussels, shrimp, bay scallops, squid, and fish. It's worth it to order this just to get your money's worth lol. Everyone else enjoyed their plates of duck breast, steak, and pork chops. Service was friendly and relaxed, we felt taken care of and welcomed right in! I'd come back to enjoy some drinks and apps the next time I'm in Tahoe.

Service started out a bit slow getting served. We were a party of 8 and got there at 5:30. however, service picked up. Drinks were brought out quickly after our order. Fresh bread was served. All our food was excellent. We sat outside and the ambiance was excellent. They served the kids first, which was appreciated. We will be back.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit -- the location was perfect, allowing us to walk over easily. The service was excellent from start to finish. The hostess, waiter, and busser were all attentive and friendly. My husband ordered the short rib and really enjoyed it. I had the pear salad and the halibut -- both were flavorful, and the halibut was cooked to perfection! We had a fantastic meal and will definitely return the next time we're in Tahoe.

Spindleshanks is a nice restaurant and adjacent to The Old Brockway Golf Course Pro Shop. Reserved parking for both restaurant customers and golfers golfing. The restaurant is cozy. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating. If you sit outside you can enjoy peaceful, serene setting close to the golf course. We ordered off the Happy Hour menu. Happy Hour is only 5pm - 6pm. $12 appetizers. *Caprese Salad *Ahi Napolean *Roasted Mussels *Mushroom Ravioli w/tomato ragu *Southern Fried Quail w/mash *Hosin Ribs w/slaw We were eating light, so we only got the Roasted Mussels: PEI Mussels Roasted with with cajun spices served with clarified butter (4/5). These were delicious. After you get your mussel out of the shell, dip it in all that cajun spice that on the roasting pan. So good. Side of French Fries, served with ketchup (5/5). My wife always has a soft spot for fresh fries. These were very good. Crispy, hot, seasoned with cajun spices but not too spicy. Complimentary Bread and whipped butter (4/5). It was similar to focaccia bread. Served warm. Ed was our server and he was pleasant, friendly, and attentive!

Have visited for breakfast, lunch and dinner - breakfast and lunch were definitely our favorites! When the weather is right, sitting outside is the best. Service here is great (but take it with a grain of salt, everyone in Tahoe is on Tahoe time, don't get antsy), in fact we have had the same server the past couple of times we have visited. I will say though, dinner is very meh

Vegan wrap

Had a yummy meal at Spindleshanks. They had quite a few vegan/veg options which is great. The service was quick, we were seated almost immediately, and the outdoor patio space is great. The vegan wrap was great. I wish there was a little more spice but outside of that really delicious. The portion sizes were large and filling, as well.

Shrimp salad. Completely wilted and old tomatoes maybe from the day before and not stored properly.
Alex S.

Service mostly nice but slow. My friend got a burger- 7/10 nothing special Got the shrimp salad. Shrimp cooked beautifully but the tomatoes were completely old and wilted... 21$ salad and not much in it but tomatoes... so you'd think these would be fresh and not day or more old. Told waiter and he did apologize and offer to remake it but I was already half through it because they didn't check on us for a while, so I said no thank you. Didn't take anything off the bill... felt sort of brushed off.

Here is what we noticed: - Our reservation was at 5:30, the time they open, and a bunch of people arrived all at once, but they quickly seated us all - They only serve beer and wine, but their wine list was really good and bottle prices were very reasonable for a restaurant. - Our server came over pretty quickly despite so many people arriving at once. - The menu is pretty broad with lots of different options, and there were many other specials as well. - My wife and I ordered the rack of lamb and the fettuccine with shrimp with added scallops. Both dishes came with complementary soup first. It's difficult to say which dish we liked more since both were excellent. The bread and hummus on the table was a welcome addition, and was especially good for sopping up the wonderful sauce from each dish. - We got tempted by dessert and opted for the bread pudding with a side of homemade ice cream. Wow wow wow is all I can say! - Service was great...There were three people working the entire place so service was attentive, but not overbearing. Bottom line: I almost don't want to rave too much because I don't want the place to get too crowded, but it's better than any place around that we've been to. We'll be back for sure!

We started with the sage and cheddar biscuits, which were wonderful, and the glazed pork belly with chili crunch with toasted cashews - the combo of the nuts and pork was really delicious. We then had the Niman Ranch pork chop and grilled steak frites. Pork chop came with creamy polenta, mushrooms, and a blueberry glaze - I'm hungry just writing about all this. The chop was grilled to perfection - moist (no pink meat) and nicely charred for the flavor. The glaze is a hint of sweetness and the creamy polenta is a winner. The mushrooms are an excellent compliment. The grilled steak was also cooked to perfection - medium rare. The flat iron steak is such a great cut of meat. The fries in duck fat were very good. For dessert, we had a chocolate masterpiece. The meal was well priced considering the location and the time of year. And while the meal was special, it was the service that really made the experience special. While being utterly professional, the staff is also friendly and on top of it. I regret I didn't ask the hostess her name, but she was excellent - filled our water glasses without being asked once, and asked if we would like clean utensils after our appetizers. Our server was also excellent. I'd have more pictures usually, but we were so hungry after a LONG day at Sand Harbor, we forgot!

I'd recommend looking into parking options ahead of time and giving yourself some extra time before your reservation. We were seated right away. Indoor seating is somewhat limited, but they have plenty of outdoor seating for nice days. The atmosphere inside was pleasant, everything was clean, and the seating was comfortable. We were greeted by a very nice woman who got our coffee orders--and this is where my biggest complaint starts. I drink my coffee black, so there's nowhere for bad coffee to hide. Unfortunately, this was some of the worst coffee I've had in a long time. It was extremely watered down and almost completely tasteless. I actually ordered whole milk just to give it some flavor, which is something I normally never do. They also don't have an espresso machine, so switching to an Americano or another espresso drink wasn't an option. For a brunch restaurant, the coffee was surprisingly disappointing. I ordered the Eggs Benedict. It was good, but nothing that would make me order it again instead of trying something different if we return. One thing I did appreciate was how easily they accommodated one of our friends who is vegetarian. There was no fuss or confusion, and they made it simple for her to find something that worked. One real standout, though, was our waitress. She was fantastic--friendly, attentive, and had a great sense of when to check on the table without constantly interrupting our conversation. She seemed to appear exactly when we needed something and otherwise let us enjoy brunch with our friends. I really appreciated her style of service. Overall, everyone at the table agreed we'd give Sage Leaf another try. It's a nice place with excellent service, and they were very accommodating, but coming all the way from Reno, it's a bit of a stretch for bad coffee and food that, at least on this visit, was just okay. If we're in the area again, we'd certainly give it another shot.

We sat outdoors on a moderately cool evening, but the heaters kept us comfortable enough. We even had a view of the lake, although it was across a bustling RT 28. We started with a couple of IPAs and "Yes Chef" spritzes, accompanied by some wonderful focaccia ($14). The food arrived somewhat randomly, but we didn't mind since we were all sharing. One of our group, a vegetarian, started with a delicious and substantial Little Gem salad, followed quickly by the pimento croquettes. They were delicious, although a little confusing because there were two different versions: one filled with pimento chili sauce and the other with fried green tomatoes, a little frisée, and chili sauce. Both were very good, but I wasn't quite sure why they weren't all the same. The vegetarian in our party also ordered the charred stone fruit and generously shared it with the rest of us. Delicious. The hit of the evening was the wild boar ragout with gigante beans, tomatoes, leeks, and roasted focaccia toast. It was beautifully seasoned and wonderfully tender--perfect for dipping that delicious bread. My wife loved her pork belly over mac 'n' cheese. Last was my "Royal with Cheese" burger, made with Wagyu beef and a "perfect egg" on a brioche bun. Since I'm not a fan of runny eggs, I asked if the egg could be fried hard. Our waiter--who, by the way, was a foodie and an absolute delight--said he'd see what he could do. Well, while I respect a chef who sticks to a recipe he considers unique, I was a little unprepared for the compromise: a cup on the side containing a near-raw egg! He could have simply given me a fried egg on the side instead. Minus that quibble, the hamburger was very good, although I'm not convinced Wagyu beef adds much to a hamburger. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed the meal and will definitely return on our next visit.ur next visit.

Our server was friendly and knowledgeable, and she did a great job walking us through the day's specials as well as some of her favorite picks. I started with the In Crowd cocktail and really enjoyed it. The coconut, basil, and bitters balanced beautifully with the gin, making for a super refreshing drink that felt especially perfect for spring or summer weather. We followed our server's advice and ordered four items, two larger plates and two starters, and everything was delicious. Here's the breakdown: Trout Dip: Fantastic smoky, fishy flavor in all the right ways, served with crostinis. The only small nitpick was that the crostinis were overdone for my taste and shattered loudly when bitten into. Grilled Prawns: Super meaty and seasoned and sauced perfectly, with a bed of slaw that balanced the dish nicely. Scallops: Seared to perfection and in an addicting red Thai curry sauce. I was intrigued by the combo of kimchi, grits, and curry and have to say that it somehow blends amazingly well. Lamb Chops: Cooked to a perfect medium rare, expertly seasoned, with little gaminess and a cooling yogurt sauce that really brought the dish together. All in all, it was a fantastic meal and easy to see why this place is such a favorite among both locals and tourists. The food, the drinks, and the service all come together to make this a great option for any occasion from a casual night out (us) to celebrating something memorable like a graduation (several were happening while we were there).

It is arguably the best location on the North Shore for being on the water, especially with the Hyatt Beach restaurants closed during construction at their beach area. Ya I get it, it's Tahoe, it's Lakefront. I am willing to pay a premium but short of feeling like I'm being swindled. $41 for Tofu Stir Fry?!? $49 for a Pork Chop, $42 for Roasted Chicken and $29 for a Bacon Burger? Sheesh! That's pushing the envelope into Tourist Trap pricing levels. The burger was not bad a bit too well done. The Fish Tacos were very mediocre. This place could only earn anywhere close to 5 stars if all you based that on was the location/view. I've found Za's (Tahoe City) or Whitecap Pizza or Jason's Beachside Grill (Kings Beach) have waterfront dining at almost half the cost with nice atmospheres just a little less upscale than Gar and decent food. With Lake Tahoe likely not getting any less popular in the future, I probably won't even bother considering Gar in the future as obviously they have decided to turn this pace into a tourist milking spot.
