Really cute vibe with a sushi counter. Didn't expect fresh fish out in Truckee but was pleasantly surprised. Hand rolls (temaki) were so great especially the hotate one. Special rolls were pretty good as well. Not mind-blowing but good for a sushi date night. Good service but can definitely be a little slow when crowds pick up.

Another top notch Japanese restaurant in Truckee. It opens at noon and have enough seating options and great ambience. They have a variety of food options from rice dish, sushi's and noodle bowls. The food is tasteful and the service was great. Highly recommended

We tried this restaurant in Truckee and honestly I was really disappointed. We got the chef's special sushi plate for market price, and it was $150. It's one thing to pay that much, but as you can see in the photo, it's really not that much food which was extremely disappointing. You essentially get one roll, 6 pieces of nigiri, and a few pieces of sashimi for $150.....not worth it at all in my opinion. The fish was seasoned well and tasted pretty good, but I simply couldn't get past the price. The kitchen was also super backed up so when we were still hungry after the chef's special and decided to order more, it took way too long so we decided to cancel the order because we didn't want to wait. Overall the rest of the food was pretty mediocre as well, and again for that price, I would simply not return here. Just my opinion.

$7 service charge for to go order. Yikes.

Overpriced sushi. Paid almost $60 for 2 miniature rolls. See picture. Almost $8 service fee for to go order and they didn't even inform me of this until I looked at the bill. Waited 30 minutes for order though restaurant was empty.

The vibe makes you feel like you're not in Truckee. The pace is quick. The focus is on food. The sake is good and the fish is fresh. I recommend ordering for the experience and getting out of the norm. Try something new, let yourself be surprised, enjoy the flavor journey along the way. Oh, and if you like garlic, you CANNOT skip the edamame pictured.

Love this place and stop every time I come by I watch all the other great entrées and starters going by everything. Here is great standard Real true Japanese food quality no weird mayonnaise junk all a great spinach dish this morning or today. I just spent much of time in New York in Portugal eating great food but drunken monkey as weird as Name is. It's top top top top sushi spot in the world. If you miss this you missed out I never miss it.

An okay sushi place... the sushi was decent but not the best. There was no nigiri combo or set which was a bummer so you have to order each nigiri separately. Miso soup was definitely a miss and lacked an authentic miso flavor. It was more reminiscent of a chicken soup. I think this sushi spot is decent, but if you're used to more authentic Asian flavors this might not be the spot for you. Service was good and the inside was nice!

We had a great meal here with 8 people last weekend! We called that morning and they told us to just call when we were on our way and then they were able to seat us quickly. We had the Kamari edamame to start, which had a kick from the chili. I thought it needed salt, but my husband thought it was the best edamame he's ever had! We then had the Sierra sunset roll, the Tomoe roll, and the sake (salmon) thin roll. The tomoe roll was so good, it was deep fried and delicious!! I also had the hibiscus margarita which was delicious! It was light and fresh, and not too sweet! Overall a delicious meal with friends!

This places service was mediocre at best, bringing the score down. They pretty much never came over, and when we tried to flag them down for a second Sopporo, it was a bit difficult to get their attention. We came here on a recommendation of the front desk at Gravity Haus Truckee. We biked here; a short, breezy, enjoyable bike ride. We arrived on a Monday evening at 7PM and seated promptly amongst a bustling crowd. The music was loud and a bit disruptive. This place is more of a fusion, and none of these rolls really remind me of authentic Japanese sushi. They added stuff like garlic aioli and deep fried the sushi. Which is okay, but was still a bit bland! We did really like the katsu dish. The fried rice had good wok hay, which we enjoyed. The Kathy was fried perfectly, yet still tender! We would probably never visit again, as there are definitely better sushi places we've visited!

Food: 2/5 Service: 2/5 Ambiance: 5/5 The food here is very mediocre but I guess you can't expect much from a sushi place in Tahoe. The only thing that was really good was the scallop handroll. Would definitely order that again. Everything else didn't taste fresh and felt like I just bought it from the grocery store on $5 Fridays. There was a mystery meat in the chirashi bowl that tasted like nothing. And for the love of God, do not order any noodle dish here. Bonus that they use real crab though? Service is mediocre. We were celebrating my dad's birthday and I mentioned to one waitress (blonde, high heels) that we were celebrating. (So.. they can bring out a dessert) She looked at us like she's never heard of celebrating a birthday at a restaurant before. Didn't relay the message to our own server (Mary, I believe). I had to tell Mary again, where she explained they don't celebrate birthdays. That first waitress could have clarified that instead of being so weird about it. The ambiance made up for the entire experience. Can't be mad when you're in beautiful Tahoe. We sat outside and the weather was perfect. Overall, would not eat here again and don't plan on celebrating a birthday here because they've never heard of that. I would come back to the plaza for the ambiance and eat at the Thai place next door.

The shopping center is right next-door to the Truckee McDonald's. The place is nice on the inside. It was bright and clean, and everybody was friendly. You order and pick up your food from the counter. I have never heard of a "sushi burrito" before, so I decided to give it a try. It was with Roasted Seaweed for the "tortilla", Sushi Rice, Avocado, Cucumber, Red Cabbage, Carrot, Spicy Mayo, and Crunchy Onions. For my two proteins, I had Ahi and salmon, and I paid an extra buck to have Masago in it also. The burrito was big, and it was good. The rice was a good texture, they were very generous with the proteins, and all of the other ingredients played very well with each other. I loved the crunchy onions. They added a bit of a contrast, otherwise it would've been soft, soft, soft. I asked the lady if the spicy mayo was very spicy, and she said it wasn't. I agree with that. It was just enough that I knew that the spice was there, but it did not "blow me out." Probably the only negative, was that the seaweed "tortilla" didn't quite wrap all the way around the food, so it made it a little tricky to eat. But overall, it was really good. The price was reasonable. It was a great lunch, and I would stop by again when passing through Truckee. Thank you.

The restaurant was not busy when we walked in (about 2-3 tables) but it got busier afterwards. Due to the restaurant not being super busy, they only had one employee waiting on us and the initial wait for our food was about 15-20 minutes. Later on, it appeared more staff came in and additional ordered items appeared faster. Items ordered: Green tea- great nutty flavor and perfect for fellow green tea lovers! Free refills Spicy cucumber - they used Persian cucumbers and this was a small dish. Taste was fine but I prefer the Northern Chinese style spicy cucumber over this one (if you compare these two dishes) Garnet Ramen - Good dish and delicious broth! Hubby enjoyed this. Pearl Ramen - I really enjoyed the clear broth and subtle but good mix of flavors. I preferred these noodles over the Garnet as these are thinner. Quartz Ramen - The creamy broth was my second favorite and the amount of chicken, fried onions, and broccolini were a nice touch. Kid's chicken karaage x2 - kids enjoyed this a lot Kids' Ramen- this came with just noodles, corn, and broth (your selection). Kiddo enjoyed the Quartz broth, so we selected Quartz. I like simple sushi. So I tried the rolls just to try and see what they taste like. Its good if you like likes of flavor. It removes what people say is the fishy taste. I love the taste of fish. So I typically lean towards nigiri. I will amdit their sashimi salad as a 5/5. I loved it. I thought we could order 1 per round, but thats not the case. Look at the menu and its once per visit. The salmon hand roll is a 1 for me. It was not very crispy and hard to power through. So I dont recommend that, but they do a roll of it. So if you share with friends it might be worth while. The Niger I rate a 3.5/5. There was a lot of rice, but they also give a good size slice of fish. What got me was it didn't have that crisp taste when I ate it. Its hard to explain. The food quality is good. Don't get me wrong. Just the service and my simple taste buds. Its very popular and many locals love it. The lady was very sweet, when we got to speak with her.
