A few weeks ago, a friend and I met at Thai Thai for an amazingly delicious lunch. Located in the Carson Mall, it's a super convenient location, downtown Carson, easy to get to and has plenty of parking. The restaurant is cozy and Thai themed, service was super friendly, and our lunches were SO tasty! (And a word to the wise, while most places spice scales are not too on point, Thai Thai means it. Where I normally order a 5 elsewhere, my spice loving lunch friend warned me to choose a 3, and it was as spicy as level 5 at other restaurants. Thai Thai also has a spice tray so if you need to level up your spice, it's easy to add more.) My friend had the #10Pad See Aew lunch and I had the #12Basil lunch. Would not recommend them. Terrible customer service. I am vegetarian and order veggie egg rolls. They instead made veggie spring rolls. When I told the guy they made the wrong order after he charged me. He kept saying we only offer egg rolls and they are veggie and I said that's what I ordered exactly and kept telling I'm wrong. Our first choice had a problem with their kitchen and was unable to serve lunch so we went next door to Thai Thai and were very pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food. The service was fair, not fast, but not slow. The place is pleasant enough but it was quite warm, almost uncomfortably so. The saving grace was the flavors of the food as well as the ample portions. The small wonton soup I had lots of veggies and plenty of wontons. So much so that it was hard to eat it all. Let's start by saying I wasn't expecting much. It's a strip mall restaurant. But, the food was outstanding! It was very authentic thai food with lots of flavor and it was an absolutely full plate. I had the green curry fried rice. I had never heard of a curry fried rice, and I was not disappointed. It was spicy, but not overly so, and there was so much chicken in it! My daughter had the pad thai and it too was quite delicious. The service was excellent, and if the ambience had been a little better, I would have given Thai Thai a five. It needed a little background music and a little air conditioning. It was around 2 in the afternoon and there weren't a lot of people there, so it felt very quiet and with the sun beating down through the windows, it got quite warm. Thai Thai is amazing. We have been going here for years. The owner puts so much love into the food. As a vegetarian, they have always, without fail, given us amazing food. They use Duck and Oyster sauce as is customary with Thai dishes. We say, "We're Vegitarian" and without fuss, ok, we will make sure not to use any of that. I have spoken with the owner on multiple occasions, as he's shown me the flare he puts into their dishes. They switch things up from time to time and do Korean dishes or Japanese dishes. They are very affordable for the portion size and amazing quality of food. Just last night I had a 15-minute conversation with him and the safe. It was slow, and he described the amazing Korean pork dish coming up. Marinating for 2 days. I don't eat meat, but wow, is that tempting! While we're chatting, he's adding things to my daughter's Wonton soup. A splash of this, a shake of that. "I add these things because they bring out the flavors." I've spent several months in Thailand eating mostly street food, so I was thrilled to find Roti on the dessert menu. This is usually a small, chewy pancake with sweetened condensed milk poured on top. At Thai Thai "RO-TEE" was raised to an art form. He told us what to order that is their specialities. The stir fry vegetables was fresh and flavorful. The chicken satay was tender and the peanut sauce, made in house, was amazing. This was the worst Tofu Pad Thai I have had ( and I have had plenty). The noodles were undercooked The sauce was gummy and the tofu (I think it was tofu) was so over baked that it seemed "airy". The restaurant was disorderly with chairs stacked along the wall and the counters piled with nonessentials. I rarely take the time to rate restaurants but if it helps someone from making this big of a mistake on an $19 entree then I will do it in hopes that it will be corrected. This is my second lunch here. The first one was amazing and the reason I came back. Why someone would pay this much for food so marginal is beyond me. read more

Overall, it's an alright Thai place in Carson city, but it's not worth the money for the amount given and the quality of the food. The restaurant has an "outdoor/indoor" seating as it's outside of the restaurant but inside the mall. The service was slow where it's quicker to go up to the front to pay since they only had 2 employees working. The flavor of the food was okay. - Drunken Noodles with Tofu: the tofu was so crispy, it was delicious - Wheel of Fortune: was decent but nothing special - Roast Duck with Jasmine Rice: the duck was a bit dry and we were given a very very small portion with an excessive amount of rice for $18. Well this was an experience. You walk up to the exterior of the restaurant (from outside) and it says to use the other door. You'll enter the mall and it's on the right. We were informed by another guest that it's just sit wherever floats your boat there is no sign just open booths. Eventually the lady arrived and brought a menu and some water. It's awkward - like so awkward it makes you uncomfortable. So we ordered like 15 minutes after she brought water and attempted to order the crab curry only to be told they don't have that. There is also no kids menu. The service is lacking; I think there are only two people running the whole restaurant. On to the important part... the food. The spring rolls were excellent and fresh. The peanut sauce is super. I felt like I should have ordered like 10 orders of them they were so good!! We tried the chicken satay and it had great flavor and again the peanut sauce is very flavorful. The red curry came with a side of rice and it was actually very spicy!! Eye watering - which is what we asked for! On a bad side it was soupy and runny which is not what I expected. The meat in the curry was not well seasoned and it was dry and lacking in flavor. The clay pot shrimp was not as spicy. It was very nice but very plain next time I will lean toward a 2 spicy level or maybe even a 1 but it reminded me of something I would serve with corned beef. If I went again I would go for the appetizers only. Oh then there is the bathrooms... they're filthy and like half way through the mall. Probably hold it and go home.
