A few weeks ago, my friend and I met at Thai Thai for another spicy and tasty lunch. We both got the Drunken Noodle lunch special. We arrived close to opening time and we didn't want to wait the extra time for the noodles to cook, so in place of the noodles, we were offered rice. So, Drunken Rice. It was amazingly delicious, and I think I actually prefer the Drunken Rice. I think we both ordered heat level 4 and it was perfect for both of us. Food was nice tasting. The portions were next to nothing. There were no condiments on the tables. The person serving us played on his phone the whole time we were there. My wife thought the table was dirty. Trying to get the check was ridiculously difficult. We were just ignored. For the first time in years I didn't even leave a tip. Ambiance. It was okay. Thai Thai is a hidden gem. Not fancy, but good. The owner takes pride in his food, importing fresh, not dry noodles for their pad Thai. He makes his own plum sauce from trees in his backyard. It's those special personal touches that shine through and carry over to the customer service. I had the pad Thai, which was tangy and sweet. They give you a generous portion. My friend ordered the yellow curry which looked amazing, which I was told tastes great as well. I highly recommend giving this place a try and supporting local. Our first choice had a problem with their kitchen and was unable to serve lunch so we went next door to Thai Thai and were very pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food. The service was fair, not fast, but not slow. The place is pleasant enough but it was quite warm, almost uncomfortably so. The saving grace was the flavors of the food as well as the ample portions. The small wonton soup I had lots of veggies and plenty of wontons. So much so that it was hard to eat it all. Let's start by saying I wasn't expecting much. It's a strip mall restaurant. But, the food was outstanding! It was very authentic thai food with lots of flavor and it was an absolutely full plate. I had the green curry fried rice. I had never heard of a curry fried rice, and I was not disappointed. It was spicy, but not overly so, and there was so much chicken in it! My daughter had the pad thai and it too was quite delicious. The service was excellent, and if the ambience had been a little better, I would have given Thai Thai a five. It needed a little background music and a little air conditioning. It was around 2 in the afternoon and there weren't a lot of people there, so it felt very quiet and with the sun beating down through the windows, it got quite warm. Thai Thai is amazing. We have been going here for years. The owner puts so much love into the food. As a vegetarian, they have always, without fail, given us amazing food. They use Duck and Oyster sauce as is customary with Thai dishes. We say, "We're Vegitarian" and without fuss, ok, we will make sure not to use any of that. I have spoken with the owner on multiple occasions, as he's shown me the flare he puts into their dishes. They switch things up from time to time and do Korean dishes or Japanese dishes. They are very affordable for the portion size and amazing quality of food. Just last night I had a 15-minute conversation with him and the safe. It was slow, and he described the amazing Korean pork dish coming up. Marinating for 2 days. I don't eat meat, but wow, is that tempting! While we're chatting, he's adding things to my daughter's Wonton soup. A splash of this, a shake of that. "I add these things because they bring out the flavors." Overall, it's an alright Thai place in Carson city, but it's not worth the money for the amount given and the quality of the food. The restaurant has an "outdoor/indoor" seating as it's outside of the restaurant but inside the mall. The service was slow where it's quicker to go up to the front to pay since they only had 2 employees working. The flavor of the food was okay. - Drunken Noodles with Tofu: the tofu was so crispy, it was delicious - Wheel of Fortune: was decent but nothing special - Roast Duck with Jasmine Rice: the duck was a bit dry and we were given a very very small portion with an excessive amount of rice for $18. The chicken sate appetizer came with an excellent peanut sauce and a delightful little salad condiment. The Pad Thai was perfect, as was the Panang curry. There was plenty of meat in both appetizers. I've spent several months in Thailand eating mostly street food, so I was thrilled to find Roti on the dessert menu. This is usually a small, chewy pancake with sweetened condensed milk poured on top. At Thai Thai "RO-TEE" was raised to an art form. It seemed to be a cross between Thai Street food and French Cordon Blu pastry perfection. Adding to our enjoyment was the enthusiastic owner/chef/waiter who owns the place with his wife. I love Thai food and what an amazing hidden hotspot Thai Thai is... I'm so sorry I didn't take photos... The food is outstanding and fresh... full of flavor! The owner explained the condiments as to which would compliment the food best... Visiting friends in Reno and craving for Thai food. Read the good reviews and decided to give this place a try. Greeted by Kong who is accomodating and kind. He told us what to order that is their specialities. The stir fry vegetables was fresh and flavorful. The chicken satay was tender and the peanut sauce, made in house, was amazing. He was cooking fresh rice and told us to wait for the new batch. We would definitely visit again and couldn't be more grateful to find this neighborhood gem. This was the worst Tofu Pad Thai I have had ( and I have had plenty). The noodles were undercooked The sauce was gummy and the tofu (I think it was tofu) was so over baked that it seemed "airy". The restaurant was disorderly with chairs stacked along the wall and the counters piled with nonessentials. I rarely take the time to rate restaurants but if it helps someone from making this big of a mistake on an $19 entree then I will do it in hopes that it will be corrected. This is my second lunch here. The first one was amazing and the reason I came back. Why someone would pay this much for food so marginal is beyond me. read more
