More accustomed to sweeter Thai food for the american palate from your run of the mill Thai restaurant. Thai Delicacy is the real deal according to me and my Thai wife who in her own right is an excellent Thai cook in the Northern style. A little out of the way from downtown Truckee but easy to find and in a quiet area well worth it. Real Thai service and real Thai chef. If you want Thai spicy just tell them. Local business owners have to do magic here to keep their doors open since demand fluctuates so much. I hate to give it such a low score because the food itself was decent. The yellow curry looked a bit watery but the taste was very flavorful, and the pad kee mao noodles were a bit mushy but had great taste. It was the experience that really brings down the review. Nobody was mean or anything, but the service was just so slow. It took over 2 hours for everyone to get their food, and they still forgot one person's dish that we decided to just take it off and leave without it (he cooked food at home afterward). What was frustrating was seeing them be so backed up with in person dining orders and yet still taking takeout orders, which I imagine were also behind but seemed to more priority over people at the physical restaurant waiting. It sucked to figure out that we could have had our food much faster if we had just ordered takeout instead of trying to have a nice dining experience. Disclosures first: we visited during a holiday week after a heavy snow, so our experience may not be representative. Came here as a party of 5 (three young children and two adults), arriving 5:30 on a Monday. It wasn't busy when we arrived, and we were seated immediately. The server took our order within 5 minutes. After a 45 minute wait, our food came out one dish at a time spread out over the next 45 minutes. When our last dish came out around 7, it was the wrong item. The server was apologetic (she gave us a discount without us saying a word), and the food was ok (apart from being cold from sitting out), but be warned before coming here if you think it might be busy; if they are overwhelmed, you can expect an epically bad service experience. read more

If I could give Thai Delicacy zero stars, I would. This was, without exaggeration, the most infuriating restaurant experience I've ever had. We ordered takeout and were told it would be ready in 30 minutes. That was a lie. Nearly THREE HOURS later, after being repeatedly strung along with "just 15 more minutes" or "just two more dishes," we finally got our food. Meanwhile, we watched multiple other customers dine in, eat, and leave before our takeout order was even acknowledged. And the food? Calling it "Thai food" is an insult to the entire cuisine. The rice was a soggy, unappetizing mess, the noodles were congealed into a sticky clump, and absolutely nothing had any flavor. My dead dog could have cooked a better meal blindfolded. Shout out to Thai Delicacy for large group take out. Two summers in a row I've called to order for a group of 15 plus for dinner. For this size order I call them at 5 with plenty of time before a 630 pick up. Both times the food is ready and securely packaged (no one wants yellow curry on their floor mats) and piping hot. Quality is excellent and not just by Lake Tahoe standards. And great variety. We had sate, eggplant with shrimp, pad Thai, papaya salad, beef with garden vegetables, chicken yellow curry and salmon with spinach. All awesome. I personally enjoy Thai Delicacy. Their food is consistently good and take out orders are very fast. The restaurant could probably use a bit of tlc in terms of the furnishings, but that doesn't affect the food. The spring/summer rolls are my favorite and their peanut sauce is spot on. Now I've seen some people complain about the wait staff. Yes, the regular woman is typically straight faced and no nonsense but she's also very efficient. That said, a few months ago I saw something that has made me a patron for life. A man came in, looking a little worse for wear, a touch dirty, and if I'm being honest, I he probably was living in his car. He came in asking, very shyly, if there had been any abandoned orders that had not been picked up. The hostess/waitress said, "wait do you need food?" When he said he was just a little hungry but only has a couple of dollars, she promptly ran to the kitchen. She made him a full take out box of food and got him a huge cup full of water. She apologized she didn't have more but it was busy. She told him to come back the next day for more if he needed it I mean, I was the ONLY person who saw this exchange. We came in on a Friday night just shortly after they opened in the evening and they were busy! Lots of to-go orders and tables getting filled up quickly. There was only 1 person doing everything and she rocked it. It speaks to how you can do or die by 1 great staff vs. a whole group of incompetent people. We got golden rolls, tom yum soup, basil noodles, and curry fried rice. We got our entrees spicy and they came through! Usually places don't make it nearly spicy enough. What a great spot this was to have dinner after a long day of snowboarding. My friend and I were craving Thai food and decided to check this place out. It opens at 5 pm for dinner and when we walked in, there was already a customer seated. Little did we know, the place was about to be filled up pretty quickly. There was plenty to choose from on the menu. We decided to share the pad thai with beef and a yellow chicken curry which comes with a bowl of rice. The pad Thai was darker in color than usual, but tasted on point. A little sweet and a little salty -- the perfect combination. There were plenty of beef slices throughout the dish which was a plus! The yellow chicken curry was very tasty with plenty of potato, carrots, and chicken pieces. It was fitting for the cold weather. There was only one woman working who played multiple roles -- she worked the cash register, took orders, delivered dishes, you name it. Go here if you want to wait for 90 minutes, eat mediocre food, and then have the waiter tell you that you're lying about how long you waited for. For more detail, our party of 6 arrived at 7:30 PM on a Saturday night. Luckily, there was no wait and a party of 6 left as we opened the door. It took 20 minutes for us to be seated, another 45 minutes to receive our first dish, and another 20 minutes to receive our last dish (which was brought out without any meat the first time). To be clear - the restaurant was NOT full. But in the 1:30 we waited upon arrival, we watched well over a dozen takeout orders leave the restaurant. It's not acceptable for a restaurant to prioritize takeout over customers sitting in their establishment, and if the kitchen is backloaded on takeout orders, then this should be communicated. It should be mentioned that the food was also very mediocre, even for an area that admittedly has few options. Small portions of meat & the pad see ew was so overcooked that it felt like we were eating paste. And when we complained about how long we had been waiting for, the waitress told us, "I don't think so" 2x. Not 1 apology the entire night. read more

Crab rangoons are to die for! For whatever reason, this seems to be the only Thai place I've been to so far in my life that knows how to make them right. I was up in North Lake Tahoe for one night and looked up Thai food and Thai Delicacy had popped up as the closest Thai restaurant. I had called to make sure their hours reflected what was showing on their Yelp page since I've run into issues where other restaurants are showing the incorrect business hours. Not only were their hours correct but the food quality and service were on point. The portions were pretty big especially with the Chicken Pad Thai. My only regret was not ordering more of those perfect and pillowy crab rangoons. Oh well, next time I'm in the area visiting the slopes, I'll make sure to stop by to get an order or two for myself. read more

This restaurant has gone from good to bad. Past two attempts to eat there have resulted in us walking out because our order was not taken and we watched others be served. Tonight plates came out at different times with my wife's plate coming out after my daughter and I had finished. We should have left the late plate there as my wife said it was uncooked. I ordered the yellow curry and requested cashews and avocado and it was only $3 for each of those additions . My friend ordered the paid Thai and loved it. She especially liked how you can add your own spices to it. My boyfriend ordered the chicken teriyaki and our other friend ordered the garlic chicken. They both ate all of it and didn't even speak as they ate and said it was delicious. After a long day on the mountain in this just what we needed. I came here a few times before and dream about the taste of the Rainbow Chili entree that is so authentically Thai, made with flavors we don't eat here like "kra-chai," a root that tastes sort of like pachouli, and green peppercorns in clusters on stems. Bright purple eggplant, fiery red bell pepper, generous seafood (shrimp and squid) with two big scallops that surprised me with their generosity! The chef pays such close attention to flavors that every dish I've had is absolutely delicious. The woman who serves here is super-sweet, this whole town is nice people. She practically gave away the recipe of this dish because i love it so much... two dinners in a row plus lunch.. first the chicken, then the seafood, then the pork. Stopped in today for the lunch special. I've had the same thing several times before here and it's generally really good. I ordered the chicken curry pop with pad thai as my side. The chicken curry pop was great, good flavor and spice. I think this is my 10th time ordering it! The pad Thai this time was only so-so, it's usually much better so you'll have to try it out for yourself. It's a small place with just a cook and server, as it was lunch there was a bit of a wait but we eventually got seated and the food came out very quickly.
