At the Lights Festival serving some excellent dishes. I tried Rendang, the best dish in the world for 2017. It was very good and exactly as advertised. When they tell you it's one of hottest dishes you can find believe them. Almost too hot to eat but full of flavor. Served with yellow coconut rice and veggies it's a full meal.

Quality/Quantity - Congrats on all your success; wishing you the best. You deserve it! Wow, I can NOT believe it has been since February of 2024 since we discovered you at the Revision Yelp event. What a 5 star event! So of course ,when we found out you are now in Carson City (since 7/8/25), we wanted to support you! Oh, also congrats on your 2 year anniversary! So many blessings. Love your faith shirts BTW. My wife insisted we get the best sellers, so we got all 3! Lumpia - Generous portions. Made fresh. The sauces compliment it well. I don't think it was your typical sweet and spicy sauce, it must have an extra spice or two in it...? Well, my wife took most of the sauce, so I did not get to re-sample it, lol. Made fresh after we ordered, so be careful as it was piping HOT. Rendang - SO spicy!! I loved it. But not when I am traveling, lol. Sampled and took the rest home to finish. As light eaters, we typically over order... Mie Goreng - Their version of chow mein. Again, so good. Everything was made to order, so fresh. They also gave us two sauces, see picture. But we did not need it as the food was already so flavorful. I took it home and will add it to my cooking Complimentary bottled water when dining in; thank you. Saved me a walk back to the car. Next time we will try your other side, your partner's Fuego Tacos! Atmosphere - Beautiful location. I look forward to all the future decor. Decent size indoor seating, booths, tables, and counters. See pictures. Outdoor seating also, see pictures. Open 7 days a week from 11am to 9pm or 10pm. See my pictures. Huge restroom. Service - 6 stars. Both Barry and his wife are so welcoming. If you are following, we usually eat at "irregular" times to avoid crowds. So not many customers, which gave us a chance to hang out with Barry, and all the other owners. Price - $42 + tip. Reasonable prices for all we got. Owner Comment - Congrats on your continued success! And all your awards (4, soon to be 5...?) We look forward to supporting you.

Tip! Weekends get busy so you can order ahead!

Amazing authentic Indonesian Food right here in Carson City! Great friendly service too!

Bali Express has now opened a physical restaurant in Carson City! It's located in the old Johnny Rocket's space and in the building containing the Bowling Alley. Gayle and I stopped in last Saturday at the urging of our gym trainer, who happens to be Indonesian. We had previously enjoyed several Indonesian selections from the Bali Express Food Truck as earlier Yelp event. There's also another excellent Indonesian place (Tee Jay's Corner Cafe) located inside Cactus Jack's Casino in Downtown Carson. I'm hoping that this competition will raise both boats. I think they've only been open a few days, as the interior space remains sparse and with many of the previous restaurant's architecture still in place. They also share this space with Fuego Street Tacos, so it's almost like a food court selection. The owner greeted us with a big smile, helpful assistance, and some friendly chit chat about our mutual friend (Meike). At some point we'll return with Meike to help guide us through the various dishes of which we have little idea. In the meantime, Gayle ordered a Chicken Basil dish, while I chose a chicken sate. We would have preferred not to have the chicken slightly breaded, but we ate most of it anyway. The chicken leftovers (plus some coconut rice for our plates) went into a chicken stir fry we had for dinner the next night. The Satay sauce was particularly tasty, with the included cucumbers helping to moderate the 2 dish's spiciness. There was definitely more food to go around, but considering how delicious it all was, we gladly failed to finish up everything. We're hoping that the drink menu expands a bit, as right now it's a choice between water and Boba drinks. I know it's Indian, but a Mango Lassi would be great with Indonesian Cuisine. We'll definitely be back (with or without Meike) and look forward to this restaurant "start up" filling out and achieving a satisfying equilibrium. The location is a little isolated and slightly difficult to find, but I'm hoping the bowling alley and other small businesses with help with the traffic and the public opportunity to enjoy Bali Express. Note to Yelp: This review has been written on the Bali Express Food Truck page, that shows a Reno map and the Carson City address. Please consider creating a new page for the restaurant.

    Straight deliciousness!

So I can tell you that they have the crispiest egg rolls or the most flavorful chow mein that you have ever had... but then again, your taste buds can explain in more depth. If you like spicy, get the Rendang. Back to the chow mein, I swear she adds like 18.3 ingredients to make it taste so good! This food truck is constantly winning awards, and guess what? They now have a restaurant in Carson! While Koming is serving up the new recipes, you can find Barry attracting the crowd with his karaoke. And it's not amateur night - he has some soul and can sing very well! If you're just looking for a good time or want your tastebuds to dance with joy, you should check out their mobile trailer or their new brick and mortar restaurant! Tell them Reggie sent you. Lastly, shame on me for this being my first review of Bali Express! Koming & Barry, my bad y'all!

It's a pleasant surprise that they opened the new location at Carson about 4 months ago. I tried their food last year during the Yelp event, really enjoyed it! Always wanted to go back, but didn't know where to go. Their food is amazing, the seasoning, the texture, and the portions are all perfect!

OMG! This place is a must go to if you have a cultured palate. We were looking to try something different and came across this. Worth the drive to Carson City and they also have a food truck that comes to Reno. When you walk in, it looks like a 50's diner setting with booths and additional seating in the back. We were greeted by the friendly owner who was also the chef. The chef's husband also came out and started serving. The dynamic duo were so friendly and conversant they made you feel like friends. For starters we ordered the tempura shrimp as well as the chicken and veggie pot stickers. For our entrees we ordered the chicken with lemon grass, shrimp with lemon grass and the pompano fish. They were served on wooden plates covered with banana leaves, totally eye-pleasing and refreshing presentation--felt like you were in a tropical island. Reminded me of when I visited my ancestral home in an island south of the Philippines where your food was placed on banana leaves laid out on the table. As for the food, we ordered them spicy. I'm a light weight when it comes to spicy, but tasted them anyway. The spicy lemon grass sauce that the chef put on the dishes was a blend of herbs and spices that made it really flavorful aside from having that kick to it. Husband said "this is what spicy should be, full of flavor, not the vinegar acid kind of spicy." As for their yellow coconut rice, loved it. You can taste the hint of coconut, turmeric and maybe lemon grass or ginger? One thing the rice wasn't was bland. I decided to order a non-spicy dish, which they have a selection of, the teriyaki beef with broccoli. I loved that they didn't use the teriyaki sauce that was overly sweet and thick. The beef was seasoned well, not too salty, not too sweet. just how I like it. Their portions were decently sized for the cost that we had to take the rest home. We were so satisfied that we will definitely be back, or find out when their food truck comes to Reno and buy their food that way. Highly recommended!

We were so disappointed when Johnny Rockets closed but happy to see that not just 1 food place but 2 replaced it. The space is shared with both an Indonesian good and Mexican. You do have to order in each separate areas. This reviews is for the Indonesian area. The owners are so friendly! We ordered at a kiosk but had recommendation of one of the owners, Barry. The other partner, Koming was our chef. The food arrived quickly and was served very hot. All a great portion. We did order a spicy entree and it did not disappoint! My husband is the judge and his mouth was on fire! This place is definitely worth a visit and try. Something different.

Wow, I just had an amazing dinner at Bali Express. The food had amazing flavors, large portions. Trust me you will love it. I had the privilege to meet the owner Berry and his lovely wife. She's the chief behind the scenes. Its located at the Carson Lanes bowling alley. While we were having dinner the owner Berry stopped by and gave us some history of how they opened the restaurant and how he met his wife. We also found out Berry can sing. And let me tell you he can sing. Ok back to the good food, it's Indonesian cuisine. Bold flavors and large quantities, fast service and family-run. So give them a try and say hi to the owners. Ps ask Berry to sing.

Hit their food truck at Hot August Nights. The host was super personable. Explained their business and how they compare to the competition. Had the lumpia. Hot, crispy, great flavor. Really good dipping sauce. One of the best I've had!

So nice to have more ethnic food options in Carson. Great place for those of you who like their food to actually be seasoned and have flavor,

The food is so flavorful and delicious. It's now in a restaurant so you can go sit down inside to enjoy your meal. I spoke with the owners and they are so passionate about food and their business, definitely go check this place out.

We were warmly welcomed and given a quick run down of everything that was offered. Balinese food is not any easy food to find so we were very excited to have a place so close by. I grew up eating Indonesian food and other Southeast Asian cuisines, and always look for Indonesian food whenever we travel, and was excited to see there were two in Carson City. The other one was my first choice but they're closed on Mondays, so we came here on our way to Tahoe. We arrived a little after 4pm so it was quiet. The chef's husband walked us through the menu and ordering system, all the time hyping up the food and flavor and multiple awards they've won and how everybody loved/raved about their food and had never tasted flavors like theirs. The man is clearly very proud of his wife, which we appreciate. Since rendang was sold out, we decided on lemongrass chicken with yellow rice for the hubs, chicken satay with fried rice for the kid, and gado gado for me. We also ordered canned drinks but were offered free bottled water (for dining in) which we accepted with gratitude. Food came relatively quickly, fifteen minutes or so. Presentation was nice, with banana leaf on wooden platter and silverware and napkin. This particular lemongrass flavor is unfamiliar to me, and aside from heat from the chili it was flat. The chicken pieces were deep fried and dry. The nasi kuning must be old because it was hard, and there was barely any flavor. The chicken satay pieces were alright according to the kid, a little dry but tasted good. The nasi goreng was so-so, I see bits of fried egg and tasted kecap manis, but most importantly it was oily. The gado gado was actually acceptable, even if the tofu and potato cubes had been refried to a crisp, as was the hardboiled egg (also fried), and the peanut sauce was chunky and not creamy enough and lacked the distinct spices and flavor. The man had told us the ingredients are sourced fresh from Indonesia. Given they're in the middle of nowhere, it is not surprising if the food was prepped/cooked in batches instead of made fresh to order. Perhaps we came on an "off" day. Perhaps the raving reviews and awards were for the rendang only, which we didn't get to sample. If he had not talked our ears off the minute we stepped into the restaurant, perhaps we would not have had such high expectations of our meal. The chef seemed like a sweet woman and I wish her well. Might I suggest that her husband let customers determine for themselves if the food is truly amazing instead of forcing his extended elevator spiel on them. 3.5 stars, only because I am supporting an immigrant woman chasing her dreams in this political climate.

The salsa bar has lots of different choice to choose from from mild to super hot ... all labeled. The cooks just call out your order, so you better listen for it. The street tacos had a ton of meat on them and I just put some salsa one all of them as well as adding onions and greens. Wow, these were some of the best tacos I ever had! Just pick them up and fold and shove in mouth! Tasty! The burrito was a little different than other burritos I've had. The tortilla shell wasn't as thick of doubled over in the folding so it wasn't as easy to get it to stand up to eat hand held from one end, but having less tortilla is better cause it's easier to bite into and the taste of the fillings come through better. I like this burrito! I'd come back here again if I'm in the area. Sometimes I have my crew with me for work out on East Carson sometimes, I'll bring them here.
