Boneless Chili chicken
Jared C.

My favorite Chinese restaurant! Lulu and her team are true professionals! The quality of the food, service, and price are a fantastic value! My favorite dish of theirs is the boneless chili chicken. It's not common to have this dish offered at a Chinese restaurant, especially in a rural area. Grateful they are here in Carson Valley!

What a gem to find on our road trip to Tahoe! Food was very tasty and reminded us of our uncle's restaurant growing up. Service was great! The salt and pepper chicken wings are so good!

This Chinese restaurant is the epitome of no-frills. We were on our way home from road-tripping along US-395 and I wanted Chinese food. There weren't many places in the Gardnerville area but Louie's piqued my interest. I decided to give it a shot, especially after seeing that the lunch specials were only $10. In this economy, the price is hard to beat. It was a quiet Monday afternoon and we were one of only three tables having lunch. We already knew we wanted to have the lunch specials, so we ordered right away. I chose the curry shrimp and my husband chose the Mongolian beef. We had a choice of soup between hot and sour and egg flower. We both chose the hot and sour. Our hot and sour soups came to our table almost immediately. They had a good flavor, although I would have liked more tofu and mushrooms. Our lunch specials arrived shortly after. I was pleased with the portion sizes for what we paid. I was expecting more from the veggies that they mentioned in the menu, but for the price point I cannot complain. However, I would have liked to see more veggies in the fried rice as well as "wok hay", which sadly was nonexistent. Personally I feel that fried rice should come standard with veggies. If I had known I would have ordered white rice instead. My husband's Mongolian beef was excellent and had the classic flavor of the dish. I tried a bit of his food and was pleasantly surprised at the spiciness of the dish. My curry shrimp reminded me of the curry I grew up eating. The sauce had a nice consistency, although I would have liked it to be thicker. It was a bit watery at the end. There was a good amount of fat, juicy shrimp in the curry as well. However, again going with the above theme, I would have liked to see more veggies in the curry, especially potatoes. If you are in the Gardnerville/Minden area and want to enjoy a quiet lunch, Louie's is the place for you. Don't come here expecting anything fancy, but the lunch specials do their job, and nothing can beat the price. It's a solid 3.5 stars--and in terms of Chinese restaurants and Yelp averages, that fits the bill for Chinese food. We'd like to come back in the future to try more of their other entrees.

We were staying at the hotel next to the restaurant so this place was super convenient, we just walked over. We placed our order and went for a walk, the food was ready in 30 mins, we did order like 10 different plates though. Everything was pretty good but some of the portions were small. The food itself was good, just like most Chinese food spots.

After working in Downtown LA for 20+ years, I've eaten at some of the best "hole in the wall" Chinese restaurants. Louie's is very solid and matches up with many of those DTLA restaurants. I'm happy to find a local spot that has very good Chinese cuisine. Would recommend and will return.

This young man was the best. We were brought chips and salsa, and we also requested the extra spicy for the Hubby. The mild was perfect for me. The chips were nice and crunchy with a great corn flavor. We did order a sangria for me and a margarita for the hubby. They have a really nice lunch menu with great prices and a very extensive regular menu. I ordered the #6 off the lunch menu. A chili relleno with the sauce on the side and a crispy ground beef taco. The rice was so good, great flavor as well as the refried beans. 5 stars for each of these. The taco was so full of meat (ground beef) and fresh veggies. The chilli relleno was huge and perfectly cooked. I get my sauce on the side so leftovers will not get soggy. Now this sauce was like a ranchero sauce, looked like onions, celery and maybe tomatoes in it. It was really tasty. Hubby got a #13 off the regular menu. 1 enchilada, he got ground beef, 1 crunchy taco with ground beef and a tamale which was shredded beef. I tried the tamale and it was very delicious. We did ask to speak to the Manager who looked a bit nervous coming over. We explained to him it was our very 1st visit and won't be our last. We told him everyone wants to call you over to complain, we were like we wanted to give you major compliments on everything from the awesome waiter Ivan to the food and atmosphere. Music was at a perfect tone etc. We were seated by the bar area in a booth. Very nice in that area. We will definitely be going back

I hadn't set foot in this building since McDonald's was here, and found that the subsequent renovation to be impressive. I'll need to come back for a sit down with music, but for this visit it was a To-Go order at the counter. The order came out relatively quick and hot, so much so that I had to be careful taking it back to the car. It was a huge amount of food and so much so that it was good for 2 very satisfying dinners. Even a little microwaving on Night 2 didn't really dent the experience. My only quibble is that I prefer black beans to refried, but either forgot to ask or wasn't sure.

So there we were. We…read morewanted to take a bike ride, have breakfast, and enjoy a beautiful spring day. We did all of that and we decided to have breakfast at the Overland. We knew it wasn't going to be crowded and the food will be fresh, but it was so much more than that. Overland is lucky to employ Tennessee, who might just be the best server in the Carson Valley. I grant you that we haven't been to every restaurant and we haven't had every server and so it could be hyperbole to try to tell you that he's the best, but we need to be sure to let you know that he is clearly in the top percentile of quality, local servers. Why you ask. He anticipated our every need, and so we always had water, always had coffee, and he cleared every single time he got near the table. His positive energy is infectious. Yes, I can hear you now, what about the food? My wife can, on occasion, high maintenance, and this was one of those mornings. She ordered the Eggs Benedict without the bottom bread plus one more whole extra Eggs Benedict, and Tennessee didn't flinch. I ordered the vegetarian omelette and I had side breakfast potatoes. All of it tasted great. I even tried the hollandaise sauce on my wife's eggs Benedict and it tasted fresh and tasty. So, I say give Tennessee a raise, and when you go to the Overland, hope that you get seated in his section because it will be an experience that you won't forget soon, and the food is very good. Somehow, this breakfast restaurant is flying under the radar on Saturdays and Sundays. They truly deserve to be packed as they have the formula for success, great service, good food, and a clean environment..

It was rainy, and so everybody was indoors, and it was kind of crowded, but that's a testament to the quality of the food. My wife, ever the hugger, was thrilled to see her, and you could tell they had a mutual fondness for each other. So if you're into day drinking, and it's a Sunday, this is a great stop. We had a confirmed reservation for eight at 1:00 pm on a Friday following a wedding ceremony. What should have been a joyful post-wedding lunch became frustrating due to the general manager's attitude. Although the reservation was made, we were told they could not ensure the table that would comfortably fit eight adults -- several over 6 feet tall. We were also informed they would not guarantee any table even a few minutes early so we could place simple floral arrangement on it before bride arrived. Our party was fully prepared to order off the regular menu and pay whatever it took for what would likely have been a one-hour lunch. During the conversation, the manager repeatedly emphasized that they are "always busy," which felt dismissive rather than helpful. The overall tone came across as VERY condescending, especially given the occasion. For a restaurant known for hospitality, this was disappointing. The lunch was booked at another restaurant. Sadly, none of us will be back to The Pink House while the current manager is employed there.

The ambiance is classic, nice, yet rustic cabin like feeling. The menu looked good and our server informed us of the specials. I decided to get the salmon and the others decided on the steak special. We ordered some calamari to share as our dinners came with soup or salad and a side. They do offer a full cocktail bar and wine/beer menu. My guest opted for an old fashioned, which he said was one of the better tasting ones he's had. The calamari came out nice and hot. Tasting crispy and good, and tasted fresh. My salmon came out light and fresh, with amazing Brussel sprouts. My guests steaks came out perfectly cooked and flavourful. The service was impeccable and our server continued to check on our dining experience. All the staff were super friendly, which made for an amazing dinner. We came kind of late, around 8:30pm and had a party of 8, and at first they said they could not seat us but then Paula (who I assume is the manager) was able to get us in at 9:00pm and she was so kind and personable! The table and chairs we sat at were nice and study and the dining area of the restaurant was just as nice as the entrance. Our server was friendly and attentive and our wait was reasonable. Now for the negatives. Unfortunately the food was not a hit for anyone in our party. My sister-in-law got the chicken pasta and gave it a 2.5/5, she aid the chicken was overcooked, the sauce was runny, and it wasn't very flavorful. I got the Brussel Sprouts and my husband and I give them a 3/5, they were soft but not crispy and the flavor was okay. The Mac & Cheese was a 2/5 on its own but much better when we added salt/pepper, it also had no flavor but the texture was perfect. My 3 kids all got a kids pizza and they all barely ate any so I'd give another 2/5, they said they remind them of the pizza they get at school. My husband's meat pizza was also a 2/5, the crust seemed like maybe it wasn't all the way cooked & he said it tasted like a frozen pizza. My nephew gives the kids grilled cheese a 3/5. And my brother said the chicken BLT was good and he gives it a 4/5 and said he would order it again. Lastly, I ordered a wedge salad but it never came, also after I brought it to my waitresses attention she forgot to take it off the bill, but she quickly fixed it at the end and again was very kind. Unfortunately we will not be going back even though we are staying at the resort next door. We just feel for the price we would like to try other places in Tahoe instead. But I think they are worth a try if you're at the resort.
