The ambiance is warm and fitting especially during the winter months. The food was just what we needed on a snowy day, and the ambiance was the cherry on top. My husband and I were only here for a 3 days, and 2 of the days we spent having dinner here. I liked it before I ate a bite. I don't know if it's intentional or I misread the room but I'm a fan of 70s-vibe elevated (but... homey? Is that a thing) French fare. Think, maybe, Julia Child cooking at the boss' house, prepared by their cook in their over-sized split level. That's specific, I know. But that's the head space I was in and that's the head space that allowed me to enjoy my meal at Le Bistro. I came here with a large group of folks I have known since my teen years and we were ready to eat, drink and carouse. Given our group's size and the relatively sparse crowd on a Saturday night, we were given the big table in the front dining room. Despite being on display I welcomed the seating. Our server was chatty and friendly. Realizing that we were a table of (mostly) newbies, she told us about the $70 prix fixe menu*: 5 courses from appetizer to dessert. Done. Sold. Let's do this. To accompany the first part of my meal, I had to begin with a French 75. The glass was lovely. The champagne was bubbly. And the gin was a respectable pour but not so heavy as to overwhelm the lemon and other elements. Plus, hibiscus for a purpley hue. We're off to a good start. Soup: Lobster bisque. Full of sweet lobster meat, cream, deft use of tomato paste and pepper, and as much butter as one could want in a serving. My cholesterol levels would have to be sated on another day. Appetizer: Crab cakes. I figured if the lobster was a hit, let's stay in the same neighborhood. A plate of Dungeness crab came breaded, flaky, sweet, and meaty to my waiting belly. Paired with a delightful (appropriate use of the word, given the French setting) remoulade, this former New Orleanian had no notes or complaints save wanting more. Salad: House Caesar. Keeping with my fishy meal, I was pleased to note that the salad was very (white) anchovy heavy and the cheese was Parmigiano-Reggiano rather than Parmesan. AND it, too, was served with a heavy hand. I understand that some may want editing but when eating this style of food in this setting, set the dial to 11. Going into the home stretch, I requested a glass of Grenache. Our server let me know that she had a blend. I told her that was good enough and when I received it, I was ready for my entree. Main: U/10 scallops (ie the big boys). No fear of any heavy handedness in this dish. The protein was prepared perfectly so as to allow for the sweet flavor of the delicate meat to come through. And even though it was served 'French-style' (coated in a Fontal bechamel sauce, topped with breadcrumbs and broiled until browned), I never lost the plot on the scallops. Dessert: An assortment of macarons. Completely serviceable (not an insult; a descriptor). Every course was fair to generous in size and I left satisfied, full and happy. This isn't trendy, sceney food. This is old school, well-executed French comfort food and it was wonderful. When vacationing in Lake Tahoe (or, if you live there), I can't imagine not putting Le Bistro as part of the rotation. *Prices may have gone up since then. read more

One of the worst dining experiences we've ever had. From the moment we arrived, it felt like the staff didn't want to be there. While the food itself was good, for the price we expected a much better experience for my dad's birthday. We were seated uncomfortably behind a guest with her chair pushed all the way out, leaving us squeezed into our seats. The staff, although occasionally forcing a smile, never made us feel welcome. Instead of checking the reservation list themselves, they asked us to find our own name. When appetizers came, they told us they couldn't fit them in the middle of our table. When clearing plates, they expected us to hand them over instead of picking them up. To top it off, one of our dishes never arrived and neither did our sparkling water for dinner. I have tried all the local restaurants since i moved to Incline and I think this is the best one. I am shocked they have not been busier the 3 times I have eaten here. They are hard to find as they are facing the back of the little strip mall and you cant see them from the street or the parking lot. This restaurant is definitely worth the hunt. Prices are fair for the quality of food. I really enjoyed the 4 course meal. My friend also had the 4 course meal with no overlap in choices so were able to taste 8 different dishes and they were all fantastic. read more

A Hidden Gem That's Been Hiding in Plain Sight We've lived in Incline Village for five years and, inexplicably, had never eaten at Le Bistro, even though we probably eat out two or three times a week. The other night, we finally decided it was time. We're kicking ourselves for waiting so long. From the moment we sat down, I was impressed. The wine list is easily the best in town, thoughtful, deep, and shockingly well-priced. I know a bit about wine, and most restaurants mark bottles up two times, or more, over retail. Not here. For example, they had an excellent Sonoma County Dry Creek Valley Nalle Zinfandel listed for just $48... essentially retail price. The menu itself is surprisingly expansive. It offers a range of classic and contemporary French-inspired dishes. The food was superb: beautifully prepared, perfectly balanced, and clearly made with care. It was so good we went back the very next night. In talking with the owner, I learned he hasn't raised prices in five years, which makes the experience an even more remarkable value. The service was attentive, and never rushed. Our server encouraged us to "take your time," which made it feel like an old-school French dining experience, where you're meant to relax and savor each course over several hours. For the quality, atmosphere, and overall experience, the value is outstanding. Of course, I secretly hope he doesn't raise his prices, but part of me hopes he does, because I want him to stay in business for many years to come. Incline Village is lucky to have several great restaurants, but Le Bistro stands apart. After roughly 500 meals out around town, this one genuinely surprised us and it deserves every bit of praise it gets. read more

Intimate ambience, excellent food and service. This turned out to be our best meal of the trip. The place appeared to have a lot of regulars. When we were dining, we noticed the manager greeted many of the customers by name and talked as if they knew each other for years. In fact later in the evening, he even poured himself a glass of wine and sat at one of the tables to chat. Love those kind of places. The decor is simple elegance and the food teeters between rustic and fine dining French. We arrived promptly for our 7pm reservations and was seated right away. As luck would have it, we got a great table ...a cozy corner booth that afforded a view of the entire room. The menu gave us the option of doing a 5 course prefix meal ($70) and/or ala carte. We chose to do 1 prefix and 1 ala carte. Overall, the entire meal was excellent. The special appetizer of the day, Lobster Mushroom Scallop Ravioli and the Veal Chop with a veal stock cream sauce really stood out. The ravioli took a little long to arrive but we weren't in a hurry. Excellent service. Efficient and unobtrusive. The captain waiter and back waiter worked well as a team while the manager helped to pick up any slack. Small operation but well executed. We will definitely return on our next trip. A very genuine French bistro indeed. Tucked away in an alley next to a rustic group of low rise apartment buildings. Tables inside are very unstated but the quaint outdoor seatings among young redwood trees and string lights are absolutely adorable. Every dish is served piping hot. Price is reasonable whether you do Ala cart or prix fix. And the desert platter is worth special mentioning: one order and you get a mini cream brûlée, a mini layered cake, seasonal fruit mix, mini apple tart and a chocolate truffle. Highly disappointed in the quality and freshness of the food served. Lobster Bisque en Croute - although it looks so scrumptious, it tasted like a chowder, not a bisque. Way too much cream, and the only lobster flavor coming through was in the chunks of lobster on the bottom of the soup. Cesar Salad - never had a ceased salad that was presented with a piece of anchovy on top. Presentation was unappetizing. Tuna Hamachi - although the presentation was nice, the taste was horrible. The fish tasted so old and chewy, I was very disappointed. The hamachi and tuna was not fresh and had such a fishy aftertaste that I couldn't finish the dish. Lobster Ravioli - Pasta tasted old and chewy, and so did the sauce. Very rich, but not in a good way. Tasted like old, reheated ravioli. The dessert plate was the best part of the meal. The crème brûlée was to die for, but I am not sure if that was house made. If so, then I'm hooked! Not generally a fan of this dessert but the caramelized top layer was sooo good, and the crème filling was the perfect texture. So creamy without tasting like a pudding. My family took a trip to Lake Tahoe for Thanksgiving and I made reservations for thanksgiving dinner at Le Bistro. I really wanted to love the restaurant but it was a disappointing experience. The food took forever to be served. And it was bad from the start. My daughter's bow pasta was uncooked in the middle and we had to send it back to get it cooked again. I ordered the escargot and it tasted bland, the last one even had sand in it. The Lobster and scallop ravioli had lobster shell in it. My mother ordered the special Grilled Salmon, and it was still raw inside. My filet mignon was probably the most delicious dish. But the pork just tasted weird. This is a cute little restaurant near the lake nestled away in the trees. They have a vast wine list but also do cocktails. You can order food a la carte or do their several course meal. I did the four course meal which included an appetizer, salad, entree, and dessert. For the appetizer I got the crab cakes. They were a little tiny and overly fried. Their sale was a little bigger and filling. For the entre I got the filet minion. Now that meat was butter, obviously order it medium rare! The mash potatoes were a little hard for my taste but still delicious. For the dessert, they give you a plate of four mini treats to eat. The crème brûlée was the star out of the minis. The service was great. The wine list was very good with many options. The chef has created a gourmet dining experience with a pleasing atmosphere in Incline Village. Rack of lamb was tasty but undercooked. Ordered it medium rare and came out very rare. Escargot and filet was very good. The 4 course meal for $82.00 was not worth it. Order A La Carte. Also, double check your bill. When we arrived we overheard the table next to us having the check they received refunded due to an overcharge. Our bill was also overcharged by $20.00. Our itemized bill was $264.80 but the "merchant copy" bill was $284.80. Maybe they thought I wouldn't notice but I did. There are many restaurants in the area that are much better for a lot less money and better quality. Sage Leaf, Rosewood and Soule Domaine are much better choices. I haven't given a 5 star rating this fast in a very long time. Without a doubt the best restaurant in Incline village if you're looking for that higher style/fine dining experience. First off, Paul and Diego were fantastic. Very professional but not uptight at all. They seem to be enjoying their jobs and served us in a very timely matter. They'd have conversation while also serving an entire restaurant and not once did I notice them make any mistakes not with us nor other tables. They stayed proficient and on top of everything. Very strong staff here. The atmosphere, the moment I walk in I felt such a cozy at home warmth from the spot. It's quant, it's small, it's warm. Most restaurants in town seek this modern or gastro look and to me it feels forced or lacking personality--all copying ideas that aren't really coming from them. This place sticks out and gives you a personality that can completely pair well with what they're serving. And now the best part, the food. Starting from apps to main course--and only getting more delicious with each dish. We started with horderves--flat bread pizza type thing and these flaky cheese balls. Terrible way to execute what they actually are but I don't know French. They were fantastic appetizer openers. Paired well with the viogner I got. Appetizers rolled in after that escargot and ravioli's. Honestly, escargot wasn't for me but I've heard raves about it and while the flavors were all there. My mind wouldn't allow That texture to go unnoticed. The raviolis were a bit bland with the sauce and probably my least favorite of the dishes we ordered. While we're on topic of least favorite items, the veggies do coke unseasoned it seems. Mashed potatoes, carrots, and asparagus were just that--nothing to compliment their flavor. We followed with the lobster bisque. First bite made me realize it's only going to get better from here on end. The bisque was so full of flavor and the flake pastry that lay on top just melts in the mouth when dipped and served. I don't eat lobster bisque often for it doesn't always do the job. But wow was this soup a treat. Main course came--holy hell was that a perfect experience. We shared the scallops and filet. Scallops were big, tender, flavorful. I've never had scallops this way in my life and would only hope to find a dish that can compare to these one day. But that filet. Absolutely mouth watering. Every single bite is close my eyes and ride the waves of the Cabernet reduction. The perfect tenderness to the filet cooked medium rare. Juiciest steak I've ever had. I was about to order it again to take on another ride--but was definitely getting full at that point. No room for dessert unfortunately. All in all, can't believe I didn't come here sooner. Le Bistró is good, but fell a bit short on my expectations. First, let me say that the staff was very nice and I think they were working really hard, so the issue is mainly with the food and atmosphere. We came here for my birthday and it was busy Saturday. We had reservations and were seated in a nice corner booth. From there we could see the happenings in the restaurant and it made for some excellent people watching. We had the 5 Course a la carte menu. For the appetizer I had the smoked salmon. While the presentation was artful, it didn't stand out as something that was much different from smoked salmon I've had elsewhere. Next it was onto the soup- and it was a no brainer. I HAD TO TRY THE LOBSTER BISQUE WITH PUFF PASTRY. YES!!! This was delicious and the dish dazzled and was definitely worthy of 5 stars! For the entree I had the scallops. They were huge, buttery scallops, but the taste was overpowered with...tarragon(?) I'm not sure what spice was trying to upstage the scallop, but it would have been better served as a sauce on the side. Last the dessert trio was a let down. The mini Creme Brûlée had a very bitter caramelization and the raspberry tart and chocolate bon bon were blah. I left those alone. Dessert is something I really enjoy, so if I'm leaving any on the plate, it's an indication that something is amiss and in this case, the desserts lacked flavor. Last, the atmosphere is a bit stale. I think it needs a little revamp. I like that it's quaint and tucked out of the way. It has a charm to it, but needs some updating. Overall I think Le Bistro tries in an earnest way to be great, but is overextended. As I mentioned, the waitstaff was very kind and was definitely working hard to support one another, but maybe some editing of the menu may help and some reworking of the decor would help to bring it into the 2020's. The outstanding Puff Pasty Lobster Bisque was tempered by the lackluster appetizer and abysmal dessert plate. I don't regret coming here, but the extravagant price point should not leave me feeling mixed emotions. read more

In the shoulder season, we were some of the few people there, but I would venture to say it would be much busier in the summer/winter. We decided to go with the prix fixe--everything was so rich and delicious, but we were so incredibly full after. I would say you'd be fine just getting an entrée and maybe an appetizer. I was so excited about having my birthday dinner here. It was highly recommended and was told the potato puffs were to die for. We made the reservations for 6 and the guy who took the reservation could not have been nicer. One of our friends was not feeling well so it was 5 of us add that rubbed them the wrong way. We should have given them a heads up, however they were very rude about it. I asked for the potatoes and was told "it is seasonal" every other table had them. None of us liked the choice of the 4 entrees so we all ordered multiple appetizers and that further irked them. We ordered a bottle of white and one of red and frankly would have ordered another 2-3 bottles of wine and dessert but the service was so bad that we opted not to stay. I didn't love the food but the crab cakes were inedible with one bite taken out and not a word from the server when the food was removed. We had our wedding rehearsal dinner at Le Bistro in 2012, and we came back to celebrate our anniversary and we are so glad we did. It's a small little place in the back of a strip mall, and the decor looks just the same as it did last time - very homey, very French, like you are at your favorite Aunt's home in Paris, if you favorite Aunt is an amazing chef! They have an extensive menu that you can order a la carte or get five courses. We splurged and got the five courses and every one was incredible. We had to take a picture of the lobster bisque en croute, it tasted as good as it looked. We also had the lamb loin, the ahi Napoleon, seared foie gras and coquilles st jacques. They have a great wine list with plenty of local and international selections, not just French, and we chose a lovely Châteauneuf-du-Pape that was delicious. They have a few very cute outside tables with blankets but it was too chilly for us so we stayed inside. I planned on proposing to my girlfriend locally and was looking for a nice restaurant to celebrate the special occasion. I made reservations at Le Bistro Tahoe at 7:30 pm on 08/09/2024. The proposal went faster than I expected, so we arrived at the restaurant at 7:00 p.m. We had a bit of trouble finding it, as it is a bit off the road. We eventually made our way to the outside seating area and explained to a man that we had a 7:30 reservation and wanted to see if we could be seated early. He agreed and took us through what I now know was the back door. We were sat and immediately given two glasses of water. Still a bit high on the fact that we had just engaged, we sat and enjoyed conversation for a few minutes, eventually looking at each other and stating how hungry we were. At 7:30, we still hadn't been brought a menu or asked if we wanted anything to drink, so we asked each other whether we should leave. Right around this time, we were brought an amuse-bouche, which calmed us down; we decided to stay. However, at this same time, we noticed two tables were sat directly next to us; they were brought menus and had drink orders taken immediately. After 40 minutes of sitting and waiting for a menu and a drink, we had had enough. At 7:40 p.m., we decided to get up and leave. I have never done this at a restaurant before. I felt bad for eating the complimentary appetizer and leaving, but after 40 minutes, it was pretty clear to me that we had obviously done something to offend the staff and were not wanted there. I worked in restaurants for ten years, and I understand that reservations are taken for a reason; there is only so much capacity that the kitchen can handle. If the restaurant is taking reservations, it is typically to help space out the guests and to make sure the staff can handle the volume. But dropping a menu and taking a drink order takes very little effort. Completely ignoring a table for 40 minutes is rude and unacceptable in any customer service situation. Honestly, this was the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant. They tried their best to ruin a very special night. There are many dining options in the Tahoe area. I suggest that you choose anything other than Tahoe Le Bistro, or you might end up eating leftovers on your engagement night like we did. read more

The food was just average. Nothing special. That's not my complaint, but what happened later was utterly unprofessional. We needed to get going because the service was a little slow, and I thought I was overcharged by $9.50 for the soup on the prefixed menu, so I waited for the server to come around to let him know, so he could correct the check. And he never did, so I simply took nine dollars off of the tip. ( I felt that was fair ) we had somewhere to be and I waited another 10 minutes just to try to get an explanation. So here I am on vacation trying to relax and my phone buzzes at 10 o'clock. And guess who it is. Some guy name David apparently he's the owner and he told me that ""before leaving a 3% tip I could have asked my server,"". Well had this guy been attentive, at least 3% he would have realize that he didn't have enough staff. But really who contacts a guest at a restaurant after they leave at 10 o'clock to basically complain about a staffing issue that they have. He had to go out of his way and look in the reservations to get my phone number, which is a miss use of that information. My phone number was given to contact me if they were a problem with the reservation not to you that about your personal problems. And then for him to tell me that apparently, "this is my sport ". And what kind of poor business owner does something like this.? All that's going to do David is cost you money because this I will post on so many different platforms your head will spin. All you needed to do if you absolutely felt the need was to just say "hey Gerard, my name is David I am the owner. How was everything when you came in for your meal."? Great meal at Le Bistro. Javier and Paul served us and owner / Chef David visited us multiple times to discuss wine, food and Incline Village! We went for the 4 course meal ... OMG! What a value!
