Happen to be in the area and came here for dinner with my husband. Everything was top notch! The service, the food, the setting. We started with the foie gras and the goat cheese salad. The foie gras was excellent, definitely recommend. It was so good I got it twice because I also ordered the duck breast and it comes topped with foie gras and I was not sad about this whatsoever! Especially bc the apples and sauce they paired it with were just delicious. It just melted like butter!! My husband got the elk steak and it was perfectly cooked. The meat was so tender. Both dishes were a hit! I wished we didn't live an hour away or we would frequent this restaurant more often! We also had some drinks in their ice house building while waiting for our table and it is the cutest little bar! It's located right next to the main restaurant.

So, when my wife and I need fondue, we NEED fondue. There is no stopping us. Or, sometimes, we don't THINK we need it, but then read it on a menu, and THEN we want it. However, it occurs, it is an unstoppable force. While staying at a resort down the road during our trip to the South Tahoe area, we were hungry, checked out the bar menu at Daniel's (separate menu), saw the fondue, and then suddenly needed fondue...now. And, Daniel's delivered with our experience there. There are only a few bar seats, so we called ahead to ask about availability of those seats. "Be there in five minutes." Melissa at the host stand helped us out with the seats, so that was great. Mike was our bartender, and we excelled in efficiency and personality during our meal. Great, great service, I must say. Wife got a martini with her favorite, blue cheese olives. She also got this drink called the Cloud Cover. It was unique, had some egg in it, and you should go to hear the story of how Mike sort of made up the fantastic drink. So many drinks have been made in the world, and every once in a while, it is refreshing to get one that bends the rules. This drink did. They carried a really good IPA from Oregon that I liked, so I had that. We had lobster bisque to kick off the meal, and it was AMAZING. Next, the fondue came, and it was glorious also. Well worth the drive down there alone. For dessert, we got the Symphonie Chocolatee, and it was a drop mic end to our shared meal. Well named, as the high end chocolate bites were playing some awesome tunes in my mouth. Seriously, if I happened to have been carrying a microphone, I would have dropped it from my bar seat. We admittedly did not have the most healthy shared dinner, but we were on vacation! The atmosphere is classy and a great date place. They also have the ice patio, which was closed the night we were there, but looked like a cool outdoor area to eat in. I didn't snag a picture of the dining room area because I didn't want to weird out the fine diners there. Plus, once you are done your fancy meal, you can go to the extremely fun place across the street, which you will...trust me. I highly recommend this place, and see you there (the next time we are in Nevada)...

What are you doing from 3:30 to 5:30 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons while the weather is nice? If you're in the area and you want a light snack this would be a great spot for you to consider. My wife and I tried it recently and we found the cocktails to be spot on and the cheese excellent. We will, without hesitation, include this in our afternoon options considerations.

I visited the Ice House for another wine tasting. The theme of this tasting was Rose. The tasting welcomed all no matter their level or love of wine. The experience was laidback yet provided loads of information. The sommelier makes you feel like part of her family and brings the information to you in a way that is fun and easy to understand. Hopefully she will continue to run these for Daniel's and the Ice House because she is fantastic! If you haven't attended one of the wine tastings yet, you are definitely missing out so check their website and grab a ticket!

Do I recommend Daniel's?!?! Yes!!!! Once in a while you need to experience a Daniel's in your life, and if you can afford it then do it every day! Their food exquisite! I had a charcuterie board fool of the most awesome French cheeses, made in America, but each just as awesome as the next. I had the mushroom bisque, which was an awesome surprise to me since I hardly ever eat mushrooms! Their drinks were awesome as well. I highly recommended this place!

Think, maybe, Julia Child cooking at the boss' house, prepared by their cook in their over-sized split level. That's specific, I know. But that's the head space I was in and that's the head space that allowed me to enjoy my meal at Le Bistro. I came here with a large group of folks I have known since my teen years and we were ready to eat, drink and carouse. Given our group's size and the relatively sparse crowd on a Saturday night, we were given the big table in the front dining room. Despite being on display I welcomed the seating. Our server was chatty and friendly. Realizing that we were a table of (mostly) newbies, she told us about the $70 prix fixe menu*: 5 courses from appetizer to dessert. Done. Sold. Let's do this. To accompany the first part of my meal, I had to begin with a French 75. The glass was lovely. The champagne was bubbly. And the gin was a respectable pour but not so heavy as to overwhelm the lemon and other elements. Plus, hibiscus for a purpley hue. We're off to a good start. Soup: Lobster bisque. Full of sweet lobster meat, cream, deft use of tomato paste and pepper, and as much butter as one could want in a serving. My cholesterol levels would have to be sated on another day. Appetizer: Crab cakes. I figured if the lobster was a hit, let's stay in the same neighborhood. A plate of Dungeness crab came breaded, flaky, sweet, and meaty to my waiting belly. Paired with a delightful (appropriate use of the word, given the French setting) remoulade, this former New Orleanian had no notes or complaints save wanting more. Salad: House Caesar. Keeping with my fishy meal, I was pleased to note that the salad was very (white) anchovy heavy and the cheese was Parmigiano-Reggiano rather than Parmesan. AND it, too, was served with a heavy hand. I understand that some may want editing but when eating this style of food in this setting, set the dial to 11. Going into the home stretch, I requested a glass of Grenache. Our server let me know that she had a blend. I told her that was good enough and when I received it, I was ready for my entree. Main: U/10 scallops (ie the big boys). No fear of any heavy handedness in this dish. The protein was prepared perfectly so as to allow for the sweet flavor of the delicate meat to come through. And even though it was served 'French-style' (coated in a Fontal bechamel sauce, topped with breadcrumbs and broiled until browned), I never lost the plot on the scallops. Dessert: An assortment of macarons. Completely serviceable (not an insult; a descriptor). Every course was fair to generous in size and I left satisfied, full and happy. This isn't trendy, sceney food. This is old school, well-executed French comfort food and it was wonderful. When vacationing in Lake Tahoe (or, if you live there), I can't imagine not putting Le Bistro as part of the rotation. *Prices may have gone up since then.

And we brought some Bay Area friends with us. We also came in mid-week to avoid any crowd potential. Our evening began at the bar with a round of Picon Punch, the official drink of the State of Nevada. I first thought that this was a drink that you only ordered once, but this small glass of goodness actually grew on us. After closing the bar bill and looking at all the branded merchandise, it was off to the main dining room. We chose the Basque Family Style side of the menu, which at the end of the evening resulted in number of take home containers. Our 4 choices were Basque Chicken, Fish, Lamb Shoulder, and Lamb Chops. Those came with Vegetable Soup, Salad, Beef Stew, Beans, French Fries, Bottle of Red Wine, Coffee, and Ice Cream. for the Table. These inclusive choices were priced just south of $40 and that's what the bill was at the end of the evening, as there were no extras needed. OK, the included wine was a little on the sweet side, but we didn't see the need to "upgrade" as we were too busy concentrating on the food. It was all good, especially the Soup and the French Fries. The only regret was not being here on the night they served Huckleberry Ice Cream, but our Vanilla or Pistachio Almond was good enough. JT Basque is family generation owned, and we certainly felt welcome and well taken care of. The rustic decor was also cool, as was the happy energy in the dining room. Why is this THE ONE when it comes to Basque dining? Well... It's steeped in history in a way you can feel from the moment you step onto the wooden sidewalk out front. You'll see it on the walls, hear it in the conversations, and taste it in the food. This is simply a special place. You'll feel truly at home, and that's because the same family has operated it for countless generations, passing down legendary hospitality like a family heirloom. From friendly greetings in the "lobby" to the homey vibes and warm servers, you'll love every moment. Doesn't hurt that the food is delicious and plentiful. Everything is made from scratch with a lot of love, and each dish is huge and hearty. Lamb chops and lamb shoulder steaks are always A+ but be sure to order the desired temp because they don't always ask. Steaks are solid too. Same tip as above. And for all three, don't forget to get them smothered in whole cloves of roasted garlic. Personally I usually can't say no to sweetbreads at a Basque spot, and that's the case here as well. They're served in a rich, garlicky and well seasoned gravy, studded with red and green peppers and whole cloves of garlic. It's the perfect dish to use up the extra bread because you won't want to leave a drop. Make sure you bring a couple bucks to leave up on the ceiling! The bartenders can show you how to make em stick. And of course, have a picon punch!
