We were very excited to try Daniel's for dinner. We arrived early for our reservation to see if we could be seated early. The hostess greeted us with a cold stare and had to "check with the chef". There seemed to be plenty of tables, but she couldn't take us early. We went to the Ice House for a drink and the bartender was fabulous! The food was also very good... however, the service was subpar. The waitstaff, aside from the bartender, did the bare minimum. They were impersonal and we felt like it was a burden on them to serve us. We were outcast to the patio, with only one other couple. The Amuse Bouche, potatoe chips and an olive tampenade with chili flakes, was good. The zucchini fritters on a tomatoe bisque reduction was excellent. Unfortunately, they were the highlight of the meal. The service was understaffed and a bi hurried for a restaurant of this caliber. My wife order a filet medium well, which the waitress confirmed, but got a filet medium rare. We sent it back. So now do I wait and let my food get cold, or eat while she stares at me? I chose to eat slowly, but unfortunately this took fairly long which meant my meal was mostly over by the time she was served hers. My boar was good, but nothing to write home about. Something on par with a good pot roast or beef stew. When my wifes dinner arrived a second time, they had cut up the original filet and cooked it more. This made it edible, if a bit tough. For the time they took to do this, they could have cooked a whole new filet correctly. They chose not to. For desert we had a peach melba with homemade ice cream which was good . That we had dinner the night before at another establishment where they had superior service, a much superior meal, and 40% less price made the failings of this dinner apparent. At over $100 per person one expects better. We will not be back. read more

Waitress stole from us. We all expect an expensive evening out on Valentine's Day, but apparently that still wasn't enough for the server. After receiving our check, as we often do, we paid for the meal with our credit card, ZERO'd out the tip line and tipped in cash. A week later I noticed the charge on my card was WAY higher than It should have been. The server took it upon herself to enter in an EXTRA $55 tip. I contacted the manger who confirmed there was a zero on the tip line and promptly refunded my stolen money. However his explanation fell short of convincing me that this could have been anything other than an egregious, deliberate theft. I wish I would have been convinced otherwise. read more

I can't say enough great things about Daniel's! I had heard great reviews from many friends of mine and had to find out for myself. It was my husband's birthday, so I thought it was the perfect place to celebrate and surprise him with a night out. We were greeted as we entered and quickly seated at a quaint table for two near a window. We don't drink, but that didn't make the ambiance any difference for us. We were treated to nice cold beverages and water and menus to peruse with a new twist on the typical bread basket. We knew from the start, this was not going to be a quick dinner. It was going to be a nice enjoyable evening, where we could put our world worries away for a bit and experience dinner together and precious time together. We were welcomed by our server, Kristina. She was very attentive; not too much and not too little. The atmosphere was perfect for the birthday boy. He was one happy soul; from the beet salad, and the crab cakes, to the amazing scallops for him the veggies, and the risotto for me. Can I tell you about the amazing dessert? We were invited to dine with some friends from nearby Minden back in late August. They took us to Daniel's and I can say, without reservation, that it was one of the most exceptional dining experiences we've had in years. The ambiance, the service, and the food were all five star. Our server, Christina (sp?) was not only professional and informative about everything on the menu, but we found her to be refreshingly friendly and entertaining as well. We Loved our time here! We arrived right when they opened, we were the second Couple there but it filled up quickly. The restaurant is on the smaller side, maybe 8 to 10 tables but that just made it a more pleasant experience... Atmosphere was upscale but relaxing and the service exceptional! Food was Phanominal!!! We had the salads with a pistachio vinegarette dressing and our entree's were Salmon and Chicken Cordon Bleu. Specialty drinks were great as well and so many to choose from! Just wow! My husband and I just had our anniversary dinner at Daniel's and literally every was AMAZING! From the amuse bouche to the dessert, everything was absolute perfection. Service was wonderful, drinks were beautiful and the food was mind-blowing. I absolutely love this lovely cozy restaurant in Genoa. The food is consistently, absolutely delicious. We continue to come back to eat, over and over again. A true and luxurious French experience just like across the pond. The service is impeccable and as refined as in France. The Chef Yves puts together an epicurean menu that offer appetizers, main courses and desserts that are excellent, refined and delectable. The Bastille Day cocktail is epic and the whole experience brings back memories of trips to the "Vallées de la Loire et de la Bourgogne." Each time was a treat and a delight worth repeating. A restaurant like this is so exceptional in this area that it deserves a great Michelin Guide rating. Délicieux et magnifique! Merci! It's been several months since I have been to Daniel's. The reason for the long wait in between visits was made obvious tonight again. I had the pleasure of meeting the owner tonight. Wonderful woman, friendly accommodating, very welcoming. Ordered a couple of drinks. The bartender was phenomenal and I will return soon just for the well made cocktails but I won't eat there or encourage anyone else to do so either. Our waitress and her co-worker were awesome! When we were given our food, it was great all the way up until the goat cheese salad, which was under dressed and flavorless. The biggest problem and the reason why it's been so long since I've been back was that I asked for a medium steak that was pink through out. This was agreed, and acknowledged by my waitress and she said, and I quote "pink through out top to bottom, a medium filet mignon," and it came out medium well. When I brought it to their attention and I usually never do this but when you order a medium steak, there is some softness to the touch on the steak. If it's not over cooked it should be pink and juicy and this filet was hard as a rock and totally dry! I knew as soon as I grabbed my steak knife and tried to cut it that it was going to be over cooked. The coworkers both agreed with me after showing them that the steak was over cooked. At this time she warned me that the chef has a notorious reputation for sending it back to the customer so basically a F-U. Well unfortunately that is exactly what happened to me. It was sent back to me sliced up in pieces. She said "this has happened before many times and she has a real hard time with this chef." Well this chef needs to go away! It was not her fault. She knew exactly what I wanted, but the chef did it his way, and basically tells you to pound sand if you don't like it. So 285 bucks for the entire meal without the tip included of course because the service staff did not deserve to be punished for the poor judgment by the chef not making it right! I took care of the staff, but as for the chef not making it right? He should've made it right and that is and should be the number one priority for every chef. So this guy sends it back to the customer all cut up? I was told it would be pink throughout and it was not, that's the bottom line here. This guy obviously has a poor reputation. He's a Diva! Won't make any exceptions. I was told he doesn't make exceptions on anything at all so you're going to get it as it shown on the menu. But you get it the way he cooks it and you have no say in the matter if it's wrong. I feel that there should be a disclaimer on the menu that when you order a steak it does not necessarily mean that you're gonna get it the way you expect it because if it's not the way you expect it then too bad shame on you for eating here. This guy is a real piece of work I would highly recommend going somewhere else if you have a standard, or expect to have your steak prepared to your expectations. I don't know how many of you out there have experienced this at Daniel's but he over cooks his steaks and leaves you with the aftermath to basically make tacos out of it the next day. This is not a good business practice. I was also told that the owner, again "wonderful woman by the way," was too afraid to confront the chef about these issues? I'm sorry to say but in doing that you're hurting your business! I totally understand why it's going to be another six months before I even consider coming back there. At least I know to order my steak, mid rare and ask for extra dressing on my goat cheese salad, if I ever do even choose to go there again. What a terrible disappointment! I really do love this place it's a beautiful property great staff, great owner, horrible chef! This guy needs to focus on temps that people are expecting when ordering their expensive steaks. My wife and I discovered yesterday that our favorite restaurant is reborn under a different name but the same extraordinary Chef Yves Gigot. We immediately called and were lucky enough to get a same day seating. The newly rebuilt building is classic and fresh but retains traces of the old La Ferme, which Chef Gigot and the late and dearly missed Gille Lagourgue operated for two decades. We were so saddened when we learned that Gille had passed and the restaurant had closed. One of my favorite memories was bringing our daughter, her husband, and two young daughters (one a baby) to dinner. Gille loved children, and praised our daughter for bringing her children to a formal setting. So last night was a celebratory experience where we could toast the life of Gilles, the reopening of an amazing restaurant, and our good fortune in finding it again. The food, the service, the surroundings and the vibe were as before -- perfection. Welcome back Chef Gigot! We look forward to our next wonderful experience! read more

What an absolute gem of a spot not too far from Tahoe! My girlfriend and I decided to check out a little slice of Nevada and we stumbled upon this beautiful location in the historic town of Genoa. Started with the quail salad and I had the sea bass while she had the filet. Outstanding! The ambiance is terrific and the service is top notch. We ended up thanking one of the managers, Kacy, who is great! We live in LA and were both pleasantly surprised to find such a well run fine dining restaurant outside of a major city. We walked into the beautiful building designed and decorated in a classic and elegant French style. There was a cozy-looking bar area off the dining room but we opted to be seated right away. We ordered off the extensive wine, mixed drinks, and liqueurs menu. They have non-alcoholic options and mocktails listed on their website but not on the paper menu, so check there first if that's your desire. An amuse-bouche arrived in short order, tasty little crostinis with delightful toppings. For starters we had the salad and the cold-smoked salmon. Both excellent. The salad was delicious with lots of intriguing ingredients, beautifully presented. The salmon came in the most creative presentation, cute and fun! Then the mains. We had the coq au vin and the braised rabbit. Again, both so good. Extraordinarily delicious. We traded bites and couldn't decide which one was better. Looking around the dining room all of the dishes on other tables looked beautiful and everyone seemed to be raving about the tastes. And then dessert - also delicious and beautifully presented. What impressed me most was the extent of the digestifs available by the glass. They have Oloroso! Pedro Ximenez! I haven't seen those on a menu in many a moon, and certainly not in this country. Service was excellent. They understand fine dining. Refreshing. It's a small venue so reservations are probably essential. Our server said that during the summer they plan to serve outside on the patio so that will more than double their capacity. We are thrilled to have true fine dining in the area! We agreed that this place is better than any other higher-end restaurant up at Lake Tahoe, even. Truly fabulous. Highly recommend. Well worth it. read more
