Arrived 30 minutes before closing and was greeted with a smile. Ordered the infamous Rat Trap on a Dutch crunch with all the fixings Dirty Sea Salt chips. Mrs ordered the Veggie Sandwich on a soft roll & pasta salad. Used the restroom & the water station & the sandos were delivered quickly. Pretty tasty combo of meats and cheese on a slightly dry fluffy Dutch crunch. Vegi Sandwich offered a medley of green including avocado. Pasta salad was delicious but plain consisting of,pasta, onions, light cheese crumbles. Maybe not the best sandwich I've ever had, but pretty decent with super friendly service.

The friendliest most welcoming spot! My husband and I ordered and snagged a table outside with our pup. The staff brought us out a bowl with cold ice water and some cold cuts for our dog to enjoy. It was such a thoughtful gesture! Totally recommend this spot!

Half pastrami cold with smoked cheddar and potato salad side.

Best sandwich shop EVER. How is this not a killer deal. This so called "half-sandwich " which is the size of a fat whole sandwich and a side of potato salad for $12 out the door. Absolutely the best sandwiches anywhere around.

Best hidden gem in the Sierra Nevada! If you are lucky enough to visit on a Wednesday you can try their French dip. Although they are known for their rat trap sandwich. They are all delicious. They also sell different cheese.

Walked in, and immediately loved the atmosphere and vibes inside this small town sandwich Shop. The decor, historical pieces, family vibes, just loved it all. They were quick to acknowledge and greet me warmly, took my order (I'm a 1st timer), and had my rat trap sandwich to my table relatively quickly! The sandwich was really good and great value spent. Tasted like a quality sandwich with quality ingredients. Dutch crunch bread could have been a bit crunchier (maybe just preference), but I can also appreciate that it wasn't *too hard* where it breaks a tooth or collapses the entire sandwich just trying to take a bite, lol. I'll note that for next time I come in! And might ask for some extra mustard and veggies (preference). All in all, excited to come back, and try it again!

Waiting for Sammies

Do they sell meat and cheese by the pound?

They sure do! I grab a pound of turkey for sandwiches at home whenever I drive by their shop.

So finally, on my way to Auburn last Saturday, I had time to stop and try some of their amazing food. I was greeted as I walked into this quaint mini market. Everyone was friendly and talking to me. It has been family owned for decades and they made me feel so comfortable, but I was not there to shop around. I was there to try the food goods created by the smoker and whoever does this delicious array of foods. There were many options to choose from in their heated display case. Burgers, breakfast burritos, brisket sandwiches, ribs... I think there were a couple more options, but I couldn't decide on one. So I went with some smoked pork ribs and a brisket sandwich. It was $28 & change. It felt a little on the expensive side for 4 ribs and a sandwich. However... it was damn delicious!! When I got home, I did add a little salt, pepper, & mayo in the brisket sandwich... and then for me, it was fire! The smoked pork ribs were soooo goooood with the dry rub that was on them. Tender and juicy ribs... mmmm! I'm not sure if sauced ones were available, but I really liked these the way they were. I look forward to coming back here to try the other lunch & breakfast items... as well as chatting with everyone that works here!!! I'll be sure to capture more photos next visit!

Not the sweet, sloppy stuff, true homemade fresh potato salad.

Blue Goose Produce is open the whole calendar year. It's located on Taylor Rd in downtown Loomis,…read moreso it's one of the most convenient locations to sample and buy seasonal Mandarin Oranges. As of 11/19/25, which is early season, you can buy a 4 lb bag for $10. While I was there, one farmer was sorting the oranges out by size. Apparently, the medium ones are the most popular. You could buy small ones for $1.50 per pound. Mandarins were attractive and juicy. Update: It's the sweetest and easiest to peel of the three different bags I bought on 11/19/25. Blue Goose Produce is associated with Westview Growers. If I remember correctly, there are 1500 mandarin orange trees in their orchards, so you can buy mandarins there until April! Farmers are friendly and informative to chat with. In October 2025, I believe I spoke with the owner Mark about the Blue Goose decor. One antiquities specialist soon found him a large metallic goose after he requested it. He painted it dark blue himself. This goose gets outfit changes to match the holiday! His family has been collecting blue goose decor over many years, which you can find throughout the store. I learned that a female goose can just be called a goose. A male goose is a gander, and Gander Taphouse is in the same plaza. Yesterday I learned that mandarin oranges taste better a day or longer after they have been picked. It takes time for them to sweeten. You can find a variety of local farm goods here, such as honey, scented candles, Earth & Vine products, local Newcastle Mandarin Ranch products, and Petaluma Creamery cheeses. You can buy pies here. I might call ahead to ask about available flavors. You can find limited produce here. I've bought a large tomato, finger grapes, and a ruby grapefruit here. Fuyu and Hachiya Persimmons are currently in season and look beautiful. Prices resemble that of a farmers market. If you like to support local farms, please stop by Blue Goose Produce.

The online ordering system was not working - it balked at payment - so I phoned them and ordered that way. On the day, we got a pile of plastic bags each labeled with our name, and inside mine I found my hot sandwich, still pretty warm, inside a foil wrapper. Mine was the Italian melt, lots of different kinds of meat plus provolone and a little onion and pepperocini and a mildly spicy marinara sauce lightly dabbed in. It was not too thick but nicely dense, as well as delicious, with a well chosen mix of ingredients. I didn't want too much bread, so I ordered it on marble rye, and that turned out to be fairly thin, not overwhelming, and also strongly and delightfully flavored. I'm not ordinarily big on deli sandwiches - I don't think they have much else - but this was a major find.

There is a bathroom that you must ask for a key to. Once 1:30 rolled around, I was excited to try my sandwich given the great reviews, then came 1:40, then 1:50, and I did not have my sandwich until around 1:55. I worked in a sandwich shop for 3 years, so I know sometimes a wait is unavoidable and can recall dealing with rude customers, so I did not approach the staff regarding the wait. They were trying their best to accommodate the orders. However-- 35 minutes for 2 sandwiches, I think, is a little excessive. In the end, my sandwiches were spectacular, genuinely well crafted, and met (maybe even surpassed) my expectations. When I got back to my car, I noticed the worker (owner?) gave me a full sandwich despite me ordering half. I wasn't sure if this was purposeful as means of saying "our bad", or just a mistake, but I will say it left me in better spirits. If you have some extra time to kill, with friends etc., this is a must try. However, if you are on ANY sort of time restriction, I would not recommend stopping here. I'm sure this is not always the case, but as a stop on a long drive, I did not consider an extra 45 minutes for a sandwich. If the owners are reading this, I truly mean well and hope you know a long wait is a sign of success. Growth is inevitable!

Stumbling into this establishment, we didn't realize they had already closed, but the guy behind the counter was nice enough to make us a sandwich anyway. Pastrami Kraut Melt 5/5* If sandwiches had dreams, they would be an Auburn Bodega sandwich. They all are both vsually appealing and spectacular in taste. We went with one of their popular sandwiches to try. The pastrami was PACKED in there! The crisp veggies and tart kraut perfectly balanced out the saltiness of pastrami. The green herb sauce, though, is this sandwich's wet dream. It added creaminess, a refreshing palette, and a bit of citrus flavor to amp up this sando tenfold! Warren & Co. Herb Crackers 5/5* Locally made! I checked the labels just to make sure they were local before purchasing. These were unexpectedly so crisp and savory. The lightness of the crackers tasted like you'd get them fresh out of the oven. They were perfectly dusted with flaky salt, rosemary and other aromatic herbs. I got these for charcuterie, but they were so good stand alone that I had them as a straight snack. They had a hefty display case of drinks out back and a small freezer with local goodies like a pot pie. We grabbed some kombucha to wash everything down. I noticed some desserts by the cashier also, and locally made bodycare items, but didn't want to browse any longer and keep them beyond their closing hours. This place is such a local gem. Side note - they prefer being small and local, and asked us not to post their menu on Yelp, since it rotates and people have come to get old sandos that weren't on the menu anymore. I respected their wishes but they were too good not to write about!
