Blue Goose Produce is open the whole calendar year. It's located on Taylor Rd in downtown Loomis,…read moreso it's one of the most convenient locations to sample and buy seasonal Mandarin Oranges. As of 11/19/25, which is early season, you can buy a 4 lb bag for $10. While I was there, one farmer was sorting the oranges out by size. Apparently, the medium ones are the most popular. You could buy small ones for $1.50 per pound. Mandarins were attractive and juicy. Update: It's the sweetest and easiest to peel of the three different bags I bought on 11/19/25. Blue Goose Produce is associated with Westview Growers. If I remember correctly, there are 1500 mandarin orange trees in their orchards, so you can buy mandarins there until April! Farmers are friendly and informative to chat with. In October 2025, I believe I spoke with the owner Mark about the Blue Goose decor. One antiquities specialist soon found him a large metallic goose after he requested it. He painted it dark blue himself. This goose gets outfit changes to match the holiday! His family has been collecting blue goose decor over many years, which you can find throughout the store. I learned that a female goose can just be called a goose. A male goose is a gander, and Gander Taphouse is in the same plaza. Yesterday I learned that mandarin oranges taste better a day or longer after they have been picked. It takes time for them to sweeten. You can find a variety of local farm goods here, such as honey, scented candles, Earth & Vine products, local Newcastle Mandarin Ranch products, and Petaluma Creamery cheeses. You can buy pies here. I might call ahead to ask about available flavors. You can find limited produce here. I've bought a large tomato, finger grapes, and a ruby grapefruit here. Fuyu and Hachiya Persimmons are currently in season and look beautiful. Prices resemble that of a farmers market. If you like to support local farms, please stop by Blue Goose Produce.

Decent value when craving barbecue…read more First time trying a restaurant in this area. Pleasantly surprised. I appreciated the location. Plenty of parking. The restaurant has outdoor seating and an interesting set up inside. As you walk in the bar is to the right with the kitchen in the far back. You have a small area with larger tables. Just to the left you have another room but smaller tables. At first my part was seated in the room with the small tables but knew our order, so we requested to be moved. Thankful there was a party that just left. Nachos with add-on brisket - we devoured it. There was a decent ratio of toppings as well as a healthy amount of brisket. Large pieces mostly hidden under the chips. This could be a meal on its own. 1lb fries with pesto and pulled pork - I wanted to like this. A generous portion of pulled pork to match but it was dry. The pesto aioli sauce didn't elevate or add anything. Just a subpar plate of fries. Three meat platter / double brisket (asked for fatty) and trip tip. Brisket was good, a little melt in your mouth but was lacking the smokiness and true bbq flavor you'd expect. Still a good protein. The trip tip was okay. It was cooked more than I'd like yet still a decent protein option. I def used the available condiments to elevate each bite. One thing to note - they charge for ranch, aioli sauces. Nothing that will break the bank but it would've been nice if the server mentioned it before serving us several containers of them. Overall a decent bbq spot. Is it the best? No. Is it good for this area? Sure. I'd come back for the nachos and the meat platter. Decent value for the amount of food. We walked away with leftovers which is a win in my books.

It is rather tiny on the inside with only three tables of two. So if you are wanting to sit and eat, you need to be a small party, or take your food with you to go. Thankfully there was plenty of room when we arrived for our party of three. Their decor is cute with plenty o goose to view, as well as their baked goods. Since it was our maiden voyage here we did ask the nice gal who was at the register for a couple of recommendations which we took. The hubster tried the Ham and Peach Grilled Cheese, the MIL did the Pick Two which included a half Rosemary Chicken Sandwich and the Strawberry Poppyseed salad, I also got the Pick Two and chose half Citrus Club Sandwich and the Street Corn Cesar salad. Everything was made fresh to order and was incredibly tasty! The hubster and I also shared a Cherry Limeade Summer Sipper which was divine. We decided we could not leave with out taking a few goodies with us for later. So we bought a Lemon Bar, a Blackberry Cheesecake Bar, and a Chocolate Sea Salt Shortbread. We don't venture to Rocklin on a regular basis, but when we do, it's nice to know where to go and to support a small business like this. Give them a try. You will be impressed too!

Alright, time for an update!…read more Costco still remains a daunting, unfriendly and very troubling place for me. It's American mass consumerism at its prime and worst. I need to go when the fewest people are there, otherwise it feels like a horror movie... all those people running around with multiple carts overfilled with stuff, some actually frantic. Besides who really needs six jars of super sized mayonnaise unless you have a family of twelve or more? However, there are some redeeming factors to shopping here, and possibly getting a good deal. This still remains the ONLY Costco in the area I'll visit for otherwise being run over by a crazed shopper with a full pallet of merchandise. So. Some great finds- We got two new good quality camping chairs for the outdoor concerts we attend at a rock bottom price! Woo hoo! Then I found a large container, yet still manageable, of my favorite snack treat, Aussie Bites, at a great price. Please don't buy them out!!! The maple syrup is good quality and less expensive than anywhere. The paper goods can also be a very good deal. Just have a big storage space for a gazillion rolls of toilet paper. They were unfortunately out, or no longer carrying, two other favorites, the top sirloin hamburgers and the Korean dumplings (an easy and quick, delicious treat). I recommend perusing the aisles as one never knows what really interesting product or bargain is lurking in the depths of this monster store. Oh, and if you want a ginormous TV that will never fit anywhere or a casket, just in case, they have those too. Plus, it's fun to count how many giant SUVs are parked in compact parking spaces to be as close to the front door as possible! After all, there's enough walking inside! You do need a membership to enter.

They say Costco on them but they run through Electrify America, and they are F-A-S-T. I got up to 230 miles (80% ish for me) in 10 minutes from nearly dead quickly after I shopped. The crowd has usually been lighter than other Costco locations, which makes getting in and out easier. I think part of that is the location. Sierra College Boulevard does not have a huge commercial strip or much dense housing beyond the two nearby shopping centers and small neighborhoods, so the store feels calmer than the bigger warehouses. If you like Costco but not the chaos, this location has been the one I keep coming back to.

You can ask to sample a mandarin while you're there. He let me choose one from any crate. Currently, you can buy 5 lb for $10. The 10 lb bag for $22 isn't as good a deal, maybe because you are purchasing the cardboard box? You can also buy crates for $50, which is the best value. I think a crate contains 40 lb. This has been the only farm I have seen so far that allows you to purchase so huge a quantity, especially so early in the season. Mandarins are juicy. You may be able to buy other farm produce here, like persimmons and nuts. The Fuyu persimmons looked so perfect and beautiful that I bought a big bag for $10. You can pay by credit card. Mandarin Hill Orchards is off English Colony Way, part of the Mandarin Trail. Happy Dayz Vineyard is located on the same grounds.
