I first called the Roseville location. The gal who answered was very sweet, but she couldn't answer catering questions and let me know she'd need to check with the kitchen. Rather than play phone tag, I decided to swing by in person (the following day) to see if I could make a stronger connection. The gal working was just as kind face-to-face as the first girl I spoke with on the phone, she also did her best to answer what she could, and ultimately recommended I get in touch with Kat, who handles catering. When I finally connected with Kat, I felt more at ease about going with this restaurant. She was absolutely fantastic and should probably have a PhD in reassurance. She patiently walked me through the options, answered everything with confidence, and made me feel completely comfortable placing a fairly sizable catering order over the phone for pickup at the Rocklin location. Five stars for Kat. She is exactly the kind of person you hope to work with when planning an event. On pickup day, I arrived about 15-20 minutes early. Some restaurants build in a little buffer and have orders sitting around before the promised pickup time, but not these folks. My order was ready exactly when they said it would be, and honestly, I prefer that. It meant everything was as fresh as possible rather than sitting under a warmer waiting for me. We chose the #2 catering package. Of the options we chose: a large Greek salad, two skewers of meat per person, pita bread, dip, lemon potatoes, and pilaf rice. The presentation was beautiful, everything was thoughtfully packaged, and, the food was very good. If you're deciding between the proteins, I'd give a slight edge to the steak skewers. They stayed tender, while the chicken, was a bit drier by comparison. If you're looking for catering that's both visually impressive and well received, The Great Greek delivers on both fronts. I was skeptical at first but a worker (owner?) allowed us to sample their cubed-shaped meat and oh booooy.. delicious and succulent! We ordered 4 Loaded Gyro Bowls along with hot sauce on their side. Had a couple of desserts to go with it. Every bite was absolutely and incredibly delicious! 4.4 stars rounded down to 4. Why not 5? The meat portions of the 4 bowls. The meat portions were just too small compared to Falafel Corner's corners competitors. The Loaded bowls seemed to be primarily rice and hardly any meat to go with it. Don't get me wrong - the taste was precisely what we were looking for and comparative to the Halal Guys. Gotta have more meat per bowl if charging a hefty price. For example, just take a look at the photo - see how gorgeous the meat is? Unfortunately that's all the meat you get - nothing under it except for rice. That top layer of meat has no extra layers of meat underneath. Biggest advice I could provide if ordering their bowls: Ask for another scoop of meat (or perhaps on the side if they charge extra). Ask for extras of their two sauces that come with each bowl. The food is packaged beautifully, and they even add ventilation holes to the containers so my daughter's French fries stay crispy instead of getting soggy.
