Is this the same restaurant/owner as Kabob Village that I ate at around 4 months ago? And do you serve Bolani?

Hi Sue! This location is now SALSAL Kabob & Gyro Grill, under new ownership and management. We’d love to welcome you back to try our fresh kabobs, gyro, Chapli Kabob, and more! We don’t currently serve Bolani, but we appreciate the suggestion. 😊

We got our favorite Afghan dishes: Chicken kabobs with extra chicken (charbroiled chicken with brown rice and crispy salads), Bolani (with chives and mashed potatoes), our most loved mantoos (ground beef with tomatoes/yogurt sauce), our favorite rice dish Qabuli (basmati rice with lamb, topped with sweet carrots and raisins), and hummus (the best creamy chickpeas). We always enjoyed our food from Chopan. The only criticism is that the order took longer than they told us (20 minutes longer.) but the food was well worth it.

Came on a Saturday during lunch and it was really slow inside. Definitely a mom and pop shop. We decided to eat there for freshness but it was really hot inside and it felt like the AC wasn't really working. Food we ordered was great though! Really good portion and filling. Got the lamb shank and the combo kebab plate. The chutney and Greek yogurt sauce were really good on top. I liked how they gave salad as well. It was well balanced, definitely going to come back and try other items. My friend and I were just talking and catching up but the employee didn't pay too much attention to us.

That's why we couldn't find "Royal Cuisine." Bare bones ambiance with a LCD menu screen that highlighted pics of protein plates and platters showing the same exact garnishes of rice, beans, cuke salad and flatbread on each plate. Almost everything is under $20. The one staff was pleasant and patient explaining the best he could what was included in the combo platter: 2 of each kabob, salad, bread, rice, beans $32. Ordering it to go we opened up the heavy parcel and saw 2 exact containers wondering if we ordered 2 of each. But no, it's the combo of marinated chicken, beef and lamb that were separately marinated and charcoal grilled. Great clean flavors, not overly spiced nor overcooked. Beans and rice were cooked correctly but a little bland, that needed yoghurt or chili paste for moisture. Good sized portions that were actually lean in nature, the cucumbers, tomatoes and dill helped bring the moisture together. Flatbread was serviceable but no oil or seasoning.

I come from a family of good cooks. I don't always have time to cook what I want to eat. Kabob & Chutney Grill is my go-to now for those busy weeks. I order the family tray for 8-10ppl and some extras. My brother turned me onto them and he does the same. Much thanks to the chefs at Kabob & Chutney for keeping it traditional for us spoiled and picky Desis! P.S. I'm sharing a photo for this review. It includes Chapli Kabobs, chicken kabobs, chicken tikka and pakora. Beneath the meat is a nice salad with cucumber, onion, chili, etc., and rice. I have to use both forearms to carry the tray. Edit: After reading some reviews of ambiance and service, I feel the need to pipe up. I go to restaurants for the food. Although the ambiance isn't what you'd normally expect, I felt a bit of extra joy in it like I was a part of a small happy celebration. It's unique and I'm down with it. As far as service is concerned, I mindlessly left half of my takeout order there. Once i realized it, I called the restaurant and asked if I could pick it up the next day on my way home from work. I told them to just throw it in the fridge bc that's what I was going to do with it anyway. They insisted that I call when I'm 20min out and they'd make it fresh even though it was my fault (I work close but live far away). As far as freshness is concerned, I walked in and ordered a massive quantity of food (saved me food prep for a week -that's how much). I waited 1hr and it was piping hot when I got it. You don't wait 1hr for old and recycled food. Obviously everyone's mileage varies and I'm not here to invalidate other customer experiences. I'm just sharing my own. If you made it this far, thank you for reading.

Pieces of flavorless boneless chicken chunks thrown in with rice. It is not biryani. No chutney, no raita, no salan. The chicken was so dry, we couldn't eat it. The picture is what we threw away. It gave the entire house stomach issues. 0/5 stars -Go to Curry Leaves in Rocklin Chicken Tikka Masala was super sweet with old chicken. The chicken was mushy like a baked potato. It's tikka masala, not tikka gulab jamun. I honestly think they served the chicken from the day old or longer buffet. Never again, more stomach issues. 0/5 stars -Go to Shalimar in Natomas Aloo Palak was edible but little to no flavor. 2/5 stars -Go anywhere else Garlic Naan was not garlic. It was plain with butter. 1/5 stars. -Go anywhere else I hate to leave this review, but if you have eaten at a quality Indian restaurant, cafe, chaat house, or even hole in the wall you would realize the overwhelming disappointment in flavor, preparation, pricing and commitment to quality. The kicker, guy that handed me the food said we are making it all fresh for you right now...these were leftovers from their buffet I suspect. Sad I had to post, would love a quality Indian option in the area, you will have to drive elsewhere. I challenge those that love this place to measure it against Trader Joe's frozen entree options. ¼ of the price, more flavor and tastes fresher...which is crazy for me to say, I know, but try it. Extremely disappointed patron....oh and don't use the left door, you will walk right into their Open Hours sign face first...saw a man do it on his way out. I wish I saw Monica's review before mine, but Yelp decides to default to the best reviews first. Yikes!!

We returned many times since then but today, the old memories of why Ariana was one of our favorite restaurants returned. We ordered our favorites: Chablee kabobs, Chicken kabobs, Qabuli rice, mantoos, and Bolani. Qabuli rice or Kabuli pula, is my favorite. The basmati rice is served with the tender lamb meats. It's fragrant, eye-pleasing, and a good balance of sweet and savory spices and ingredients. It surely fits to be called the national dish of Afghanistan. Mantoos (Afghan dumplings) is the must have in my family. It's filled with ground beef and onions, covered with chickpeas sauce and tzatziki sauce and sprinkled with mint. It's refreshing. Bolani (potatoes turnovers) served with my favorite chutney that's made with cilantro, vinegar and garlic. The kabobs were tender and delicious as expected. I always like the foods from this restaurant. Today, the food arrived piping hot!! We did mostly takeouts from this restaurant for years. I noticed the restaurant did a lot of takeout orders but not many eating in. We did dine-in once, a few months ago. The restaurant updated their interior. The interior felt too dark when we went there for lunch. While the restaurant looked cleaner, I wasn't sure what the theme was. The spaces didn't seem to blend together to create a feeling of comfort. It's not enticing for us to stay to enjoy our foods inside the restaurant. But we like the foods so we will return for takeouts.

The service was incredibly friendly and welcoming from the moment we walked in, and they made us feel right at home. I ordered the 3-meat combo with the beef tikka, chicken kabob, and beef chapli, and every bite was flavorful, juicy, and perfectly seasoned. The beef chapli was especially outstanding! My wife ordered the chicken tikka masala, and it was rich, creamy, and packed with authentic flavor. We also ordered the bolani the eggplant dish, and it was fantastic. The portions were generous, everything tasted fresh, and you can tell they put a lot of care into the food. Great prices, outstanding hospitality, and some of the best kabobs we've had in the area. We'll definitely be back and highly recommend giving this place a try!

What is the point of an appetizer if it's not served before the main dishes? We were very disappointed. Taste wise, bolani was very thin and bland. Barely any potatoes or stuffing. The bread was very thin too. Kunduz Kabab's bolani is top tier, we should've just had dinner there. The Chapli kabob and Karahi chicken were also disappointing, I think the quality has changed perhaps with new management. We also noticed the waitress kept gloves on, the same gloves she would handle payments with, she used to hand us our plates and cutlery. That is very unhygienic and quite frankly appalling. You're spreading germs onto customers' plates. Will not be returning.

What a wonderful surprise!…read more I was in the mood for kebabs and headed to my usual spot, only to find it closed. Rather than give up, I decided to try this Afghan restaurant--and I am so glad I did! The lamb kebab was absolutely outstanding: tender, flavorful, and packed with spices that complemented the meat perfectly. Best of all, it wasn't overly salty, which allowed all of the rich flavors to shine through. The rice was equally impressive--perfectly cooked, beautifully seasoned, and delicious enough to enjoy all by itself. In fact, the food was so good that I've already ordered it twice! When I got home, I shared some with my parents. After just one taste, they immediately put away the dinner they had planned to make and asked for the restaurant's address. Before long, I was ordering delivery for them too. That's how good it is. It's not often that I discover a new favorite restaurant, but this place has absolutely earned that distinction. If you're looking for authentic, flavorful Afghan cuisine, I highly recommend giving them a try. You may find yourself becoming a regular just like I plan to be! Thank you for such a wonderful meal. I'll definitely be back.

The flavor was enhanced by the meat being cooked on the bone and some of the bones were split which enabled the marrow to enrich the flavor even more. The portion was more than ample and I shall enjoy another meal as a result. I will simmer the meat longer to complete tenderizing it. I first encountered Afghan cuisine some 20 years ago when I was privileged to work with resettling Afghani people in St Louis, MO. I have eaten at many Afghan restaurants since then and have enjoyed the food very much. However, of all the restaurants and homes that I've eaten in, I have found that I do not enjoy the sauces offers here. There is no true "white" sauce that I've eaten elsewhere and all of the sauces are watery instead of thick. Perhaps it is a regional preference. Also, I wish they would consider adding a half naan/half rice option to the place instead of rice OR naan. The rice, by the way is absolutely DELICIOUS I also enjoy the complimentary green or milk tea but would appreciate a cooler of water to be dispensed in the same area. I enjoy both the food ambience in this casual spot. I will continue to return, as I work my way through their menu.
