Been seeing the reviews so my wife and I decided to try Chulla's for lunch today. Glad we did. I had the Boya jambalaya stew and my wife had the ribs. My dish was loaded with fish, shrimp in a savory corn and lintels stew, with a side of white rice. She had 3 nice meaty ribs served with coleslaw and steak fries. A friend and I were looking for a good place for a late lunch and we are so happy that we found Chulla's Cafe! We started with the Homemade Hibiscus Tea and wow what flavor! Chulla's Café recently relocated from North Highlands to The Plaza At Stanford Ranch in Rocklin, CA. They have an extensive online menu offering local and African cuisine that is absolutely fantastic. Chulla's owner, Tomba, is a very pleasant and approachable guy. We had the pleasure of meeting him and several of his family members who also work at the restaurant while we were there. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. Lotsa smiles. We dropped in for lunch on a weekday. My wife had the Breakfast Burrito and I had the Crafter Burger with onion rings. Both were delicious with large portions. We also were treated to the special Hibiscus Tea that is made in house with 7 different spices. Yum. Next time you are in the area, I highly recommend Chulla's Café. We stopped by Chulla's Cafe for the first time for a late lunch on a Saturday afternoon. The place was nicely designed and very clean. Staff was very attentive and accommodating. We had the beef shawarma, chicken shawarma and the fish and chips. Every one loved their food. The French fries were large, thick and very tasty. Since I like hot sauce they offered me some of their house made habanero sauce and a I ate it all with my beef Shawarma. We are looking forward to coming back to try some of the temping dinner items on their menu. Chulla's Cafe made the #3 spot on Yelp's Top 50 Places to eat in the Sacramento area for 2022! After seeing them on the list and reading some of the reviews I knew I had to try their food. As I walked in I was greeted by multiple people and welcomed with smiles. They asked me if I had been in before and after telling them it was my first time they offered me a sample of their amazing Hibiscus tea. It's unlike anything I've had before, but reminds me of a more refreshing (and complex) apple cider. On their website it's noted that the Hibiscus tea is "brewed in-house and spiced with 12 secret spices that evoke jamaica, or sorrel, drinks enjoyed by the African diaspora - yet it is truly unique to Chulla's." I ended up ordering a big cup of the Hibiscus tea and the Hungry Lion Burger. I knew I was going to have two patties on my burger, but I wasn't ready for how big they would be. The burger was huge and had the two patties, pickles, lettuce, tomatoes, avocado, onion rings, slices bacon, cheddar and Swiss cheeses. It was seasoned perfectly and cooked the way you prefer (I chose medium rare). It also came with some amazing house made fries. I ended up taking more than half my burger home and they refilled my tea before I left, which I thought was super generous of them! After visiting and meeting the amazing owners and staff and trying the food it's clear why so many Yelpers have rated Chulla's five stars! I also heard they're looking to open two more locations, and one of them will be in downtown. Yup, my burger loving husband had to get that hungry lion King as soon as we found out about it. I opted for the other popular chicken shawarma based on reviews. Both were a sight to behold and a dream to devour. Medium doneness is probably enough for the meat patties. The onions were on the stronger side in my opinion. We were in the area so decided to try this out as we had gotten it once when it was on Doordash. It's located in a plaza so no parking issues! There were indoor seating, and the staff were extremely friendly. Tamba was welcoming, engaging, and a funny guy. Fluffy and savory combined with the butter and syrup His Chulla's Signature Omelet (egg white option) with avocado slices and roasted potatoes. I had my eye on this pretty shiny new eats spot for a few months now. Finally being in the area, it won out between the 3 of us of where to eat on a Saturday afternoon. Nice mild day in the mid 60s. We ordered food to go and while we waited we got to taste the hibiscus and it was delicious! I ordered the calamari and chicken tenders with french fries. The calamari was tasty and breaded great. Truly a hidden gem in Sacramento - I live in Midtown and sure the food in the downtown area is great but so glad I've started branching out to the neighboring towns in Sac for food. Heaping portions and the entree comes with a generous portion of fries with their delicious signature sauce. The employees are friendly and the restaurant has a nice dining area, though I've only ordered takeout so far. I've been reading tons of reviews raving over the hibiscus tea which I will definitely be trying next time I go! The one drawback I've had from my experiences is that the menu descriptions don't seem entirely accurate. I'm not sure if maybe their Grubhub online ordering system just hasn't been updated, but each time I've ordered the shwarma, neither have come with avocado as advertised. The first time I went, I noticed quickly and requested a side of avocado which they provided to me for free. OMG it was so delicious, and the owner gave us complimentary 16oz cups of it, since it was our first visit. We came for breakfast, but the entire menu sounded appetizing and reasonably priced, so I can't wait to go back for more! I had the Chulla signature omelet with potatoes and DC had the "hungry man" breakfast of eggs, bacon, and 4 large pancakes. Everything was delicious. I loved the sauce that topped my omelet (some type of aioli?). One thing was that my food wasn't served hot, so maybe they can just work on the timing of the dishes. Otherwise, portion and presentation was above average for the price point. There is a lot of interesting dishes on the menu, so yes, I'll be coming back to try more! Yum! Yum! YUM! This is a must try spot and I cannot wait to explore the menu even more! We enjoyed some outdoor dining with the famous Hibiscus drink and it did not disappoint. The food was amazing and cooked perfectly. Everyone was an anxious to eat so I only got 2 pictures of the food. The chicken tenders were crispy on the outside and tender and moist on the inside with yummy fried that we seasoned perfectly. The garlic parm chicken wings we soooo good and flavorful. You can taste the love in this cooking. We also had the salmon and fried prawns at the table but they wouldn't share so I can't tell you how it was, but it was clearly enjoyed.
