I got invited to have lunch here at Sharky's Casino restaurant, The Jackpot Cafe, by some local friends. I'm staying up at Tahoe out of the heat, but made the trip down to Gardnerville with my friend I'm staying with. I would have never thought to stop in here at Sharky's as it kinds looks old, like a place from the past. It does have a colorful history, but it's under new ownership and I hear the food is wonderful. It's the same owners as the Carson Valley Inn, Katie's, Bodine's in Carson as well as Slot World. The menus are similar at all these places but there are small differences in offerings and prices. All the menus are posted online. There's road construction causing traffic back ups, but it's not super bad, or you can approach from the Centerville Lane side like we did. Lots of parking. Inside, OMG, there are some of the friendliest people I've met! Must have been 3-4 people said HI to us! It wasn't alike they all worked here either. We were a party of 4 and got a nice table. Our server was super friendly and took our drink orders. I decided to go for this Caramelized Salmon Salad, I've not seen this salad before anywhere. It's ($13.99) served with a 6 oz piece of salmon fillet, on a bed of mixed greens including bleu cheese crumbles, green apples, Mandarin oranges all with a raspberry vinaigrette dressing. OMG! Was this the best dang salad I ever had in my life! Yes, it's that good. The big slab of salmon was cooked perfect, not all dried out, but moist and melty in my mouth. The unique dressing was divine, I never had anything like that before. Get this salad! I can't get over that big slab of salmon! See the pics! My friend had a Patty Melt ($11.99). Check this out, ALL the burger patties here are BIG HALF POUNDERS! The patty melt at the other places, like Bodine's are just lb and don't even cover the whole piece of rye bread on the patty melt. This patty melt was nice thick piece of meat all the way to the edge of the bread. Loaded with grilled onions and cheese, the bread was grilled nice and crispy. Dang good Patty melt , I took a bite, one of the best I've had in a long time! Our local friends had the Meat Loaf special ($8.99) and the Ruben sandwich. The meat loaf was probably the least exciting, but still a decent meatloaf. The Ruben was stuffed thick with pastrami and sauerkraut. We have come in, normally after church on Sunday, for brunch or lunch. Normal wait time is around 20 minutes to get a table. Once seated we have always gotten excellent service from our servers. Prices are still excellent. The kitchen works hard for the amount of food they are preparing and it probably takes around 15 minutes to get our food. We have ordered pancakes, breakfast burritos, club sandwich, biscuits and eggs, cobb salads and many more. We have tried quite a bit of items and have never been disappointed. I've been coming here at lot of late here at the Jackpot Cafe located inside Sharky's Casino. I was thrilled with the food at first sampling the things I ordered. But upon ordering more items from the menu, I'm finding not ALL is well in Sharkyland. One thing I have a problem with is the service. I had many different servers here and for some reason they rarely ever refill you water glass with out flagging them down and requesting. Same with the coffee. As for the food, most things I tried were decent to great, like the Patty Melt was one of the best ... but I tried the turkey club sandwich .... don't get this, it was a sorry sad little sandwich cut into little cubes! It wasn't even that good tasting, same goes for the Grilled turkey sandwich, really not much to it, for sure get the Patty Melt instead! On the good side, the Valley Cheesesteak sandwich ... sort of like a Philly cheesesteak, was pretty good, but still didn't best out the Patty Melt. Another not so good thing are the booth sizes, the table itself is more narrow than normal, so you'll have you knees banging into your dining partner sitting across the narrow table. If you are a larger person, get a table with chairs! I was quite thrilled with this restaurant at first, but now not so much ... I'll just come back for the Patty Melt. read more

A friend suggested that we try this cafe inside the Sharkey's casino in downtown Gardnerville, so I went. This quaint little casino in picturesque Gardnerville, Nv was a good spot for brunch! My friend had the chicken fried steak, while I chose the bacon burger. I must say, the food came out pretty quick! We were there around 12:30 so the lunch rush was kinda ending and it was a Friday. The burger came out smelling delicious! I don't know how to explain it, but when I took a bite the beef patty tasted juicy and fresh, very beefy! If you know, you know! It was accompanied with fries, that were fried good and not oily, with just the right amount. My friend's chicken fried steak was very good he said. He ordered it with the dark gravy which came with two eggs and two buttermilk biscuits. My friend who was trying to limit his carbs dove right in and ate both biscuits with butter and jam! He said they tasted fresh and were pretty dang good! Not only did he eat the breakfast, he also tried a cup of the clam chowder as the soup of the day. He said it was good. We had mimosas as beverages that are served with the orange juice in the glass and mini bottles given to each of us. So, you can essentially have a pretty yummy strong drink! The ambiance was old school western perfectly suited for the small downtown historic Gardnerville! It was very nice and pleasant to sit and eat. You really wouldn't know it's inside a casino, as the restaurant is tucked away in a nice corner with windows looking outside. The service was great with our hostess and server being very attentive. Parking is ample with the large lot that is free. Price was amazing! For the food, quality and amount, the prices are very reasonable. I'd say if you want a great, relaxing place to go have breakfast, lunch or dinner and maybe gamble a bit, this is the place to go! read more

Absolutely enjoy going to the Jackpot Cafe inside of Starkey's with our family. Love their omelettes for breakfast. Hot and tasty! What we don't enjoy are their hash browns. So disappointed!! We returned for our next visit requesting "crispy" hash browns. Even that didn't help the taste and consistency. Again we received beautiful omelettes which were awesome. We ate every morsel. But we left the hash browns on the plate again. Will we go back? Of course!! Love the servers and food. The chefs are talented and quick. Teamwork and positivity among each employee is witnessed each time we frequent the restaurant. We respectfully request that management finds a new vendor for the hash browns!! For dinner, we have truly enjoyed the Chicken Parmesan, spaghetti and garlic bread. Scrumptious! And it's $8.99! Enough to bring leftovers home! Love the relaxing dining room and comfy booths. Unexpected surprise! Stopped in for a quick bite to eat on a Sunday, first time here and it was delightful! I ordered the Hangover Burger (waitress recommended) and it was delicious! I was craving it the next day! French fries were perfectly cooked! My boyfriend ordered pancakes and in fact, ordered a second helping! They tasted like cake. Very delicious! Located in Sharkey's Casino, this is a great little diner. The menu is simple, sandwiches, salads, breakfast and some diner entries. The portions are big and the food taste great. In the 4 days we were up there we had 3 meals there. The breakfast was solid. I got biscuits and gravy with bacon. It was solid and a large portion. The other times I got a club sandwich and a burger. The service was excellent. Very Covid conscious. They provide paper menus and throw them away after your order and bring out the condiments in a tray after it's wiped down. I would definitely go back if I'm in the area. read more

Where to start. My husband and I came here for breakfast. We ordered the same thing. We got the farmers breakfast which is 2 pancakes 3 pieces of sausage or bacon, eggs and hashbrowns. The service of the waitress was amazing and tentative. She came back frequently and checked on us. The food was the disappointing part. The pancakes were borderline burnt and I could taste the flour and the leveners in it. They were not good. The scrambled eggs I got were really gross. I asked the waitress if they were bagged and she confirmed it. I requested fresh eggs which they did graciously. There was not enough tobasco to make those scrambled eggs taste good. The toast was burnt. The sausage links seemed undercooked and were not great either. Overall a fairly depressing meal. I probably wont eat here again. Update: it also made me ill. read more

My wife and I have frequented the Jackpot cafe in Sharkey's Casino since it opened last year. After a rocky start, the food has improved significantly. The atmosphere is very comfortable and pays homage to Sharkey Begovich, the man who made Sharkey's a local icon and at one time the proud purveyor of "The world's Finest Prime Rib." Unfortunately, those days are gone but I have to say that the time, effort and money that current owner Mike Pegram put into renovating the building and surrounding property is quite impressive. The prime rib is no longer salt crusted and slow roasted and the marvelous beef ribs are no longer available but there are many other very good items on the menu. The specials are also good; in particular, the Monday night spaghetti & meatballs and Tuesday night Meatloaf. Breakfast is another stand out in my opinion. The ham steak & eggs is a my particular favorite as the ham steak is well cooked and large enough that I am able to take it home and use it for two other meals. The staff, some of whom are Sharkey's alumni, are always friendly and attentive. The downside: The cafe is sometimes a little smokey and they refuse to carry Thousand Island dressing, an annoyance to which my Wife has created a solution. She asks for mayonnaise and pickles and makes her own dressing with ketchup from the table. I also would not recommend the Friday & Saturday night prime rib & lobster special. The prime rib I received was cold and not cooked well, being well done on top and med rare on the bottom. The lobster tale was approximately three ounces after de-shelling. For an additional $7 dollars , you can order an additional lobster tale. Not a bargain in my book. read more

Was on my way somewhere else when the sign on the street said chicken pot pie and then they had me. Sadly this was by far the worst ever. The filling tasted like left over split pea soup. With last night left over baked potatoes (they did not even remove the skins). And then there were a few martini onions thrown on. The top was a layered philo dough that was cooked ahead and laid over the bowl of sauce then added some parsley from a jar on top. A buddy and I had dinner here this evening and both of us ordered "The Best Prime Rib in Northern Nevada since 1971". Well the prime rib tasted like it was cooked in 1971! I ordered mine medium rare and before we had napkins in our laps our dinner salads came. Well that's ok we figured, the servers are just on top of their game. Nothing about the salad stood out, just a salad, but there were brown wilted pieces mixed in. Yuck But before we had 2 bites of our salad our entrees arrived. The prime rib was medium (I ordered medium rare). The entire entree was barely warm. The prime rib had absolutely no flavor was chewy, very dry and full of gristle. I honestly think my dog would have turned up her nose at this. The veggie included was zucchini and it was so over cooked it was close to mushy and no flavor either. A twice baked potato also comes with the prime rib and honestly it looked like it had been sitting in an oven since last week, tasted like it too! I'm not sure if the cold bad food is due to Sharkeys being new and having growing pains or they're just serving crappy food and don't care. I can tell you that neither one of us will return, I really expected more. My recommendation is don't waste your money! read more

I ordered Dissert after dinner and got what sounded like an amazing smores contraption, it was suppose to be warm and melt in your mouth kind of a thing. The first couple of times we came here after the re-model, we were very disappointed in the food. But we tried them again and Sharkey's has grown into a solid two or three time a month eating out choice for us. They've definitely gotten better. We almost always sit at the counter and have never experienced any service issues there similar to what others describe in the restaurant seating area. Food is solid cafe fare. Chicken fried steak breakfast is very tasty and only $5.99. Burgers are average but certainly edible. Fish and chips are decent. If you are looking for gourmet fare, you're at the wrong place. If you're looking for good diner food at a reasonable price, this is the place! read more

Went for breakfast last Tuesday. Breakfast came with a biscuit and a side of gravy. Breakfast arrived without biscuit. Waiter acknowledged he forgot the biscuit, would be right back with it. He returned to take the order at the next table, no biscuit. I asked how long it was going to take to get a biscuit. He said he forgot. I said you forgot TWICE! Just had dinner at Sharkey's restaurant. We typically eat at the bar but our favorite bartender Adam left so we decided to go into cafe. It was lobster and prime rib night so super busy. We were sat immediately and our waitress was Michelle. She took our drink order and then we were asked by 2 other staff if our drink order was taken. Extremely attentive! We ordered and were very well taken care of. Considering how busy they were we never needed anything. We were always met with a smile and a couple of seconds to chat. As a local business owner in the food and beverage industry and someone who travels throughout the state on a regular basis, I know how rare it is for that type of customer service in the best of circumstances. Michelle was great and the meal was worth every cent. Things would be perfect if you would get Adam back. Best bartender in town and far beyond. read more

We decided to give this café another try to see if they have improved...unfortunately, it still was a poor experience and I am sure we won't go back. This time we tried breakfast. I ordered scrambled eggs, which were runny. The hash browns were undercooked and mushy. The biscuits and gravy weren't anything spectacular which was unfortunate because not too many places serve homestyle biscuits and gravy and it could have been something that put Sharkey's on the map. If I could give minus stars I would. My husband and I have been here for breakfast on several occasions and have had just o.k. food and service. We chalked it up to the fact that they had not been open for very long and were still working the bugs out. No more excuses now. I ordered the breakfast sandwich on Texas toast with bacon which arrived without bacon. The server who did not notice this obvious omission took it back upon request and after way too long an amount of time brought it back and by this time my egg was congealed and cold, as was everything else on the plate. The cook just jammed a couple of pieces of bacon into the sandwich and sent it out as is, cold and disheveled. My husband ordered the egg and bacon breakfast with wheat toast and a side of salsa. Pretty simple, you would think. The server brought his breakfast without the toast or salsa. She realized she forgot the toast and said that it was "in the toaster". When asked about the salsa, she had a blank look on her face like this was the first she had heard of it. She went to get the toast, which you would think would be warm since it was just "in the toaster" and it came back cold with no butter. His entire breakfast was now colder than when she first brought it. This is sad because it is a very nice café and close to our home, but there is an obvious lack of management oversight and quality control, both in the kitchen and by the servers. They apparently have little concern for their paying customers or they would not serve cold and marginally prepared food served in such a slipshod manner. I don't think it is unreasonable to expect that the food be served at the very least warm and that it should resemble what was ordered. This place is so nice inside, it's been fully renovated and the restaurant is really beautiful! Our food came out fast and tasted great, service was very friendly and efficient. Restrooms were extremely nice and clean, also the counters were lower so my younger children could wash their hands without me picking them up. This is based on breakfast and lunch only; excellent omelet, outstanding salads. The chopped chicken salad as well as the salmon salad were so good and very filling. Candied walnuts, lots of veggies, very very good. Very big omelette, hash browns and a delicious biscuit for morning, not sure about the reviews..checked out the dinner stuff coming from the kitchen and it looked pretty good. Okay the pancakes suck and I finally asked why they fall apart; the cooks are using cake batter instead of buttermilk pancake mix! This is one of the best restaurants in the West! I can't say enough. I love prime rib and theirs is melt in your mouth, done as I ordered, without half of it being fat!. And the price-$13.99-included soup or salad (I had soup, delicious) 8 oz PR, choice of potatoes, and sauteed veggies. Hubby had steak taco salad ($7.99).
