Calamari
Jenny T.

I really did not feel like going somewhere fancy like I usually do in Tahoe. After searching around a bit I decided to come here given the large food menu and the decent cocktail selection based on the menu online. I am so glad I did and will be adding this to my rotation. I got lucky since they still had st pattys specials. I love scotch eggs and a good potato leek soup. Everyone was super attentive and friendly and they checked in on me regularly. I've never been a big pub person but they do it well with lots of spaces. I managed to get a table by the window so it was a smidge more quiet. The place was pretty packed by 7. I can't believe I've skipped this spot so many times. Sometimes your girl just needs to put away her champagne and touch some grass lol. I enjoyed it so much I came can the next day. I'm a creature of habit and I love good food so this will be part of my rotation. So glad I ventured out! The drinks are strong and heavy with a pretty good draft selection as well. Potato leek soup: so good I ordered it 2 days in a row. Asked for no sour cream dollop the second time. Scotch eggs: not easy to find and my goodness so delicious. The only time a scotch egg is bad is if the egg is overcooked. Not here! Calamari: i juicy and tender chunky pieces mmmmmm. Reminds me of the calamari in Australia. Cottage pie: didn't do the shepherds pie since I generally don't eat lamb. Pretty much the same with cheese on top. I do want to take my part Irish hubby here since I've never had shepherds pie made with lamb, even in Australia it was made with beef. The only dessert option is bread pudding so I skipped. But I will try it on a day I'm not too stuffed, which might be pretty hard with the portion sizes! Yummy food that's more than abundant in portion size, and a big enough variety to suit most palates. Drinks are equally big and tasty. Wonderful friendly attentive staff with the biggest smiles. What more can you want? See you next time!

Our favorite spot in town! Spent 3 days on a family fishing trip and came here twice on the trip. All the food was soooo good and the service was friendly and felt like welcoming from all the staff. We caught some fish and dropped it off around 3pm and came back around 6pm and they had it made 3 ways! We loved how they cooked the fish and made it so easy for us to eat our catches! We will surely do this again next time we are in town and recommend to anyone who wants their fish cooked for them. All their food on their menu was good; chicken pot pie, shepherd pie, pizza, spaghetti, sandwiches, chilli, clam chowder, beets salad, and they even have Guinness on tap!! We tried it all and wanted to come back for more!!!

We brought in our fresh fish that we had just caught and they made us an amazing meal. Service and Chefs were amazing.

Ok... let's break this down into my favorites 1) clam chowder- overall just great flavor and good taste 2) steak stew- big portion good quality steak, deep flavor 3) chicken pot pie- classic taste, flaky bread on top, just perfect combination and delicious 4) French onion- my girlfriend loved it, but not usually my favorite dish with the flavor pallet. But again, gf loves it and said it was one of her favorites. Also the bread roll is a must to dip all the things in! Get it! The place is a fun vibe. Service is great and the people are just the best.

Awesome! We brought in some fish I caught, and this place made them- fantastic!! Great artichoke dip, great chicken nuggets, cool place in general. I'll be back!!

The fish and chips

A must visit when coming to Lake Tahoe. They have a great outside seating area which also has an outdoor high top seat bar out the back which also includes a TV with sports regularly playing on it. The food is definitely filling, and amazing. A lot of dishes are shareable so everyone can have a taste of many of their entrees as well if you come in a big group; OR you can have a LOT of something you love :0). Service here is good but mind you it does get hectic so sometimes you gotta be patient. I try to ask for everything I need all at once to ensure I don't have trouble enjoying my food. I just love how dog friendly most of the restaurants here are but I especially love MacDuff cause they also have good food.

Fish and Chips ~ $28

I found MacDuff's Pub on Yelp and went there based on the good reviews and pics. We came for a late breakfast/brunch and got a nice table on the patio with a small view of the lake. Service was friendly, easygoing, and helpful. We ordered the French Onion Soup ($12), Shepard's Pie ($27), and Fish and Chips ($28). The French Onion Soup was good, but a little too salty for me. The Shepard's Pie came with fresh ground lamb, carrots, onions, peas, and celery with gravy, and topped with mashed potatoes and green onions. It was delicious! Everyone liked it. The Fish and Chips were good. The fish was crispy and really tasty with the homemade tartar sauce provided. The "chips" or fries were okay. I liked the simple small side of peas with the meal. We had a really good meal at MacDuff's. The Scottish pub decor inside was fun to look at. The service was good and food was great.

MacDuff's continues to reign supreme as my favorite restaurant in South Lake Tahoe. Service is as friendly and helpful as ever and as I try more menu items, it adds to the list of expertly crafted salads, soups, appetizers, burgers, pasta and pin favorites. Thankfully, a lot of them come with their amazing, fresh house-made fries which are a perfect size in between shoestring and restaurant size. I could eat a pound of them, and it seems like that's how generous they are with them. I could go on and on about all the great food and comfortable setting, but I did a lot of that in the previous review. Go and enjoy!

Guinness Stew in a bread bowl
Michelle L.

We loved the decor! We had great service! And the food was wonderful. Two of our group had Shepherds Pie which they loved! And two of us had the Guinness Stew. My friend had hers in a bread bowl and I had mine with a ring of bread around it instead of in a bread bowl. The meat was so tender and the stew was delicious. We had the stew in Ireland and enjoyed it so much, this was as good as we remembered it from our Ireland trip. We shared a warm bread pudding with ice cream and warm caramel/bourbon sauce. It was perfect!

We came and sat at the bar. Always good service, drinks were tasty and the menu offers a few salads now. I ordered a beet and goat cheese salad with a bread ring (delish!) and my husband ordered the Caesar. We do have to admit that we miss the pandemic igloos. They were awesome!!

Cottage pie and pot pie
Christina G.

We make sure to come here every time we go to Tahoe. I get the cottage pie each time. So flavorful and very very filling. My husband has gotten the fish n chips and the pot pie. He alternates between the two. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating. We always sit outdoor as the time of year we go the weather is perfect. The have a bar, and plenty of seating room.

Crack Mac
Judy C.

Good comfort food pub with good beers. It was a bit confusing when we arrived because we needed to go to the 2nd floor to get a table, but there was nothing in the front telling us that. A guy in a group that was leaving pointed us in the right direction. Once upstairs, the staff was super friendly and helpful. We got their chicken pot pie, crack Mac (not on the menu - it's their truffle Mac and cheese topped with bolognese), and bread pudding for dessert. The food came out relatively quickly. The chicken pot pie was excellent and probably the reason I'll come back along. The crack Mac was tasty enough but barely had bolognese and was a bit on the dry side. The bread pudding was good but doesn't crack my top 3 bread puddings.

Clam chowder
Jennifer N.

FOOD - Pepperoni Pizza with added pineapples: pretty basic, pepperoni and pineapple over mozzarella cheese and red sauce on a thin crust. I don't normally like thin crust pizza but theirs was good. 4/5 - Clam Chowder: perfect for January weather. I dipped my pizza crust in the chowder and it was amazinggg! 4.5/5 SERVICE: Friendly servers. We were well attended. 5/5 FINAL THOUGHTS: I would come back. The food was good. A little overpriced.

We were seated quickly by the waitress and served water. It must have been short staffed that day because it took a while to get our drink and food orders in. I'll give benefit of the doubt that it was slow season and staffing might be lean. My wife and I ordered Baja fish tacos and the fish n chips plate, I though the texture and execution of the dishes was spot on, very crispy and appetizing looking dishes, the tacos had cotija cheese on top of the fried fish, diced peppers with pico, and the side was a creative play on street corn (corn, mayo, cheese, spices) served with chips. The only critique I'll give is everything needed more salt, but that's better than being salty. My drinks were amazing, blood orange IPA and the clear water lager (award winning). I had a very positive experience and would definitely recommend!

It has that laid-back, mountain-town kind of energy where you can actually relax, warm up, and settle in. Nothing feels rushed, nothing feels forced, just good people, good smells coming from the kitchen, and that comforting buzz of a place that knows exactly what it is. We went all in on the food and drinks, and it delivered across the board. The beer tasted crisp and fresh like it had a story behind it, and the food matched that same energy. Hearty, satisfying, and exactly what you want after a long day. The burger was juicy and messy in the best way, and everything just felt solid and well thought out without being overcomplicated. What I loved most was how easy it was to enjoy the whole experience. It is the kind of place where you look around and see everyone having a good time, whether they just came off the slopes or are settling in for a long dinner. We walked out full, relaxed, and already saying we would come back next time we are in town.

South Lake Brewing Company is located in the same plaza as Target, with plenty of parking available. South Lake Brewing Company is also dog friendly for those traveling with their pups When we walked in through the back entrance, we were greeted by an employee. After looking over the menu, we ended up ordering: Pilsner, $8- My husband ordered this one for himself. He liked it and had said he would order it again. Not really big on beer (although I do like German beers), I didn't have any. 2 Towns Huckleberry Cider, $8- I ordered this cider for myself and I thought it was fantastic. The sweet flavors of the huckleberry was prominent and excellent as a hard cider. --------------------------- (Total= $16) After my husband paid, the employee helping got our drinks right away. Then we just sat in the corner inside to just enjoy and relax for a while. The place itself was pretty empty, although a small amount of traffic was coming in. The brewery inside was pretty clean and so were the ladies' restrooms. Outside there was a corn hole for those that wished to play and also it was nice that there was some shade as well. If I was a local, I would definitely come back.

Even though you are only a block from the Heavenly Gondola, my wife was nice enough to drive to pick me up. So many conveniences. Fairly simple menu that is done well. The beer was good! Got the two best IPA sellers. Angora House WC IPA and Fog Nozzle Hazy IPA. Both of which were smooth, too smooth; I could have drank even more. Well I did, as we went to South of North Brewing for more beer! See other review. I almost got a flight here, just to get it on a ski board. It was very cool; see my pictures. As for lunch, we got the following: Sticky Fried Chicken Sandwich - Made to order. Good quality, but a little small and did not come with fries or chips. In summary, tourist prices, lol. Wings - Pineapple BBQ flavor. Good size wings. Order of 8 for $20; again, tourist prices, lol. Overall the food was good and complimented my beers well. Specials available. Kids menu. Ambiance - Decent size location. The place still looks new; I like your decor. See pictures. Indoor and outdoor seating, see pictures. Cornhole outside. Lounge, table, and bench seating. We sat at the bar for the best service, otherwise it would be counter service as the bartender was the only front of the house employee. After lunch, I opened a tab and we took our beers outside to enjoy the beautiful day and the live music from across the street. Open 7 days a week from Noon to 9pm. Plenty of 2 hour limit mall parking. Well it is the off season now. Events, food trucks, Thursday Trivia, etc - See their website. Service - Good. The bartender did a good job handling both us sitting on the bar and ALL the counter service. And she still had time to let me try a few tasters. Self service water, utensils, etc. Price - $62 + tip. Expensive for what we got. Beers were $9 each. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 2003 and 2017 at this location.

The fish and chips came with deep-fried salmon, which unfortunately was a bit dry. On the bright side, the fries were SO good -- they tasted like they were fried in beef tallow and reminded us of McDonald's fries in the best way.
