The food and drinks, however, were a little bit of a let down. -Margarita: 3/5. Didn't taste the tequila and was too tart. -Paloma: 5/5. Still great with the fresh grapefruit. -Calamari: 6/5. Still outstanding. HUGE portion of sliced calamari steak perfectly cooked with a horseradish forward cocktail sauce (love) and tartar sauce. So big was our shared appetizer AND my entree. -Classic Burger: 4/5. Sadly the burger was overcooked this time and so was dry. -Home-cut Fries: 7/5. OMG. Really want to give this a 4.5. Had a great lunch here this week. We were able to sit outside and service was great. We were there a little late so I think we were the only diners there. We were in a group of 7 and had some tasty apps - the onion rings were good - Maui onions - but just a little undercooked batter. We had the shepherds pie, salad, corned beef cabbage, wedge salad, clam chowder, and veggie burger. We didn't live the veggie burger but super happy with everything else. Portions are big. After searching around a bit I decided to come here given the large food menu and the decent cocktail selection based on the menu online. I am so glad I did and will be adding this to my rotation. I've never been a big pub person but they do it well with lots of spaces. I managed to get a table by the window so it was a smidge more quiet. The place was pretty packed by 7. Our favorite spot in town! Spent 3 days on a family fishing trip and came here twice on the trip. All the food was soooo good and the service was friendly and felt like welcoming from all the staff. We caught some fish and dropped it off around 3pm and came back around 6pm and they had it made 3 ways! We loved how they cooked the fish and made it so easy for us to eat our catches! We will surely do this again next time we are in town and recommend to anyone who wants their fish cooked for them. All their food on their menu was good; chicken pot pie, shepherd pie, pizza, spaghetti, sandwiches, chilli, clam chowder, beets salad, and they even have Guinness on tap!! A must visit when coming to Lake Tahoe. They have a great outside seating area which also has an outdoor high top seat bar out the back which also includes a TV with sports regularly playing on it. The food is definitely filling, and amazing. A lot of dishes are shareable so everyone can have a taste of many of their entrees as well if you come in a big group; OR you can have a LOT of something you love :0). Service here is good but mind you it does get hectic so sometimes you gotta be patient. I try to ask for everything I need all at once to ensure I don't have trouble enjoying my food. I found MacDuff's Pub on Yelp and went there based on the good reviews and pics. We came for a late breakfast/brunch and got a nice table on the patio with a small view of the lake. Service was friendly, easygoing, and helpful. We ordered the French Onion Soup ($12), Shepard's Pie ($27), and Fish and Chips ($28). The French Onion Soup was good, but a little too salty for me. The Shepard's Pie came with fresh ground lamb, carrots, onions, peas, and celery with gravy, and topped with mashed potatoes and green onions. It was delicious! Everyone liked it. The Fish and Chips were good. The fish was crispy and really tasty with the homemade tartar sauce provided. The "chips" or fries were okay. I liked the simple small side of peas with the meal. MacDuff's continues to reign supreme as my favorite restaurant in South Lake Tahoe. Service is as friendly and helpful as ever and as I try more menu items, it adds to the list of expertly crafted salads, soups, appetizers, burgers, pasta and pin favorites. Thankfully, a lot of them come with their amazing, fresh house-made fries which are a perfect size in between shoestring and restaurant size. I could eat a pound of them, and it seems like that's how generous they are with them. My friend had hers in a bread bowl and I had mine with a ring of bread around it instead of in a bread bowl. The meat was so tender and the stew was delicious. Good comfort food pub with good beers. It was a bit confusing when we arrived because we needed to go to the 2nd floor to get a table, but there was nothing in the front telling us that. A guy in a group that was leaving pointed us in the right direction. Once upstairs, the staff was super friendly and helpful. We got their chicken pot pie, crack Mac (not on the menu - it's their truffle Mac and cheese topped with bolognese), and bread pudding for dessert. The food came out relatively quickly. We were looking for a place to have lunch on our way back home from North Star Ski Resort. At first we were worried since it was New Year's day and some places were closed. We were so lucky to find MacDuff's Pub which is a family friendly restaurant serving Scottish foods. They have a very warm classic pub ambiance and when you walk in you are immediately greeted by the smiling chefs through the service window. They have seating on both 1st and 2nd floor and while the 2nd floor was very lively with music, we were pleased to be the first seated in the more quite 1st floor (more patrons joined not long after). We ordered a bunch of items to get a feel for what they have to offer. Everything was really good however our favorites were the French Onion Soup (the cheese pull was incredible) and the bread pudding with ice cream. However the soup could have used some bread or crackers on the side and we would have liked some extra ice cream on the side that didnt melt into the hot bread syrup. We'll definitely come back to try their famous calamari and mac and cheese. The staff and owners are super friendly and will check in periodically. We loved the fact that we could keep the plastic golden yellow cups as souvenirs! Hope we can visit again soon. read more

Wouldn't recommend ordering this. Moroccan Lamb Burger - the meat wasn't well seasoned and flavorful. Also wouldn't recommend this order. Real Shepherd's Pie - It was my first time trying Shepherd's Pie, so I was intrigued and made sure to order it. It was tasty and flavorful, I enjoyed it! We always have to have one meal here every time we come to Tahoe. The food is good and the service is usually excellent. Our favorite is the cottage pie. We usually order a cup of clam chowder, but this time we wanted more so we ordered a bowl. They asked us if we wanted a bread bowl and we opted out so they gave us a bread ring instead. The bread ring is soft yummy. It was soft and chewy even the next day it was still good. The pizza was good as always, maybe a little too much green onions. My boys loved the burger and wings. Ok... I'll be honest... I was very skeptical of this place initially. We spent the morning catching trout with the kids at the trout farm. The guy who gave us our trout fishing orientation, suggested we take our caught fish to MacDuffs. We took his recommendation and dropped them off in anticipation of a delicious trout meal. There's a sign that says "wait here," but then a server comes over and asks if you want to sit inside or outside... Problem is, you can't see what inside looks like from the host stand, so making a choice is a bit of a shot in the dark. Kind of an awkward interaction when you just want to be seated. I ended up at the outside bar, which was fine as a solo traveler, but it did feel like I was crashing the locals' hangout or the after-shift crew spot. The staff and a group of regulars seemed to know each other well, so it was a little tough to feel comfortable just quietly enjoying my meal. Would I go back? Probably--for that shepherd's pie. I'll start by saying I haven't been here in yeaaaars so coming here the other night was as if we were coming in for the first time again. Based on the pics, we decided to go with the chicken pot pie and a pepperoni pizza. I'm not a chicken pot pie fan in the sliiightest but something was calling me to order it and I'm so glad I did. The puff pastry was light and crispy, the filling underneath was warm and cozy, the potatoes were perfection. My husband and I split it and we wish we had our own. Could've had like 2 more to be honest lol. It was so damn good especially on a cold evening. We were sad we didn't get to try more this particular night - next time we're in the area we will most definitely be coming again to try more! Oh yea and the pepperoni pizza was 10/10 too. It's a long overdue review for MacDuff's Pub! We came here in early April for a ski trip! It's a very cozy restaurant. They do have outdoor dining but it was so cold for that at that time. We ordered an artichoke dip, French onion soup, shepherd's pie, Mac and cheese and clam chowder. The soups were $11 each. A bit pricey but the clam chowder was sooo good so we got another one!
