Visited this bar on a lazy Sunday afternoon looking for football. Really clean and nice dive bar! Not busy, but you could bring a potluck item to share. Only 1 game on. I wish there had been more. $5 Picon Punch made by a bartender that didn't need to check a recipe. A real Nevada bar. I had a yummy mimosa, was laughed at by my date for not getting a dive bar drink. I could have had a PBR as well as other draft beers. Bartender was making espresso shots for regulars. Come visit this bar in Carson. It's totally worth it. read more

Stopped by for a quick drink before heading off to dinner. The place was a bit crowded so I wasn't expecting lightening fast service. Ordered an Old Fashioned and while it came pretty quickly, it was way, way too strong. All you could really taste was the rye, and it was overpowering. The place is nice, nothing fancy, but clean. When I first got a job as a bartender way back when, I made a strong drink for my first customer. He chided me for making it that way. I'll never forget his comment, "If I wanted a double, I'd have asked for it. Don't think you're doing me a favor by over pouring the liquor." I would have preferred a bit more of the sugar, splash of water, and bitters instead of overwhelming it with the rye. I rarely go out to bars, and I was really looking forward to enjoy my time with my boyfriend and his friend. However, from a third person perspective, the attitude from the owner and how she addressed my boyfriend and his friend really threw me off. As a potential customer, I would have put some money into this business, bought a couple of drinks for myself too, while my boyfriend and his friend talk and enjoy their time. But walking through the door and firsthand witnessing such aggressive behavior really drove me to not go there again, especially after kicking them out for not tipping over a $5 beer. The environment there was unwelcoming and hostile after that. Will never go again. read more

We've been here 4 times since moving to Carson City and each time has been more fun than the last. This is one of those comfortable corner pub's where you were bound to know somebody the second you walk in the door. The bar staff are all friendly. The patrons always having a good time and they have great drink specials. Fantastic atmosphere for Sunday football and killer scene on Friday and Saturday nights. Our last 2 visits we ran into band members from that night's concert in Reno. Pretty cool! read more

We wandered in here after the wine walk in April that takes place monthly in Carson City, on the first Saturday of every month. The place is a little run down but the staff is nice and the drinks are halfway decent. I ordered a Tito's vodka with club soda and a glass of chardonnay (don't remember the brand but it was unmentionable). They have an iTunes jukebox so there is a cool selection of music. My friends and I had fun dancing and laughing and watched a group play pool for a bit. If you are into sports there are several televisions so you can watch your favorites. I'd probably come back again if I were in the area and might be tempted to share one of their giant scorpions (yum) with a friend or three. read more

4 + 1/2 Stars. It would be five except when it's busy it may take a little time to find a seat. Yet I like to go into a busy place and see people having a good time. The customer ages vary at different times. My experience has been no matter your age, and I am getting up there in age, the bartenders have always been nice to me, they are hard workers and are very good at bartending. The customers I have talked to have been respectful and engage in conversation no matter if you're younger or older. So, besides being able to shoot pool with what I consider to be some very good pool players which challenges me to try to become better at playing pool, I have been able to go out by myself and still feel comfortable while at the Blue Bull. I think it's all the above that makes me like this place and is the reason why I am writing this review. I like 2 find out for myself what a place is like and not rely on others to make the decision for me. I hope others feel the same and will try this place out. You never know, you just might have a really good time. read more

The Blue Bull is a solid 3.5 stars, but I'm rounding it up to 4 because of how welcoming and eager to please the bartender was on our visit. I wish I'd caught her name because she was fantastic and truly understands hospitality. She really made the visit fun. The Blue Bull, for the most part, is a pretty typical local neighborhood bar. The walls are adorned with semi-tacky bar signs and neons, there's a pool table and some TV's, and the minute you walk in you can't help but order a shot and a beer, followed by a few more shots with your friends. But taking a look at the bottles behind the bar, and looking more closely at the menu, what you'll find is a cocktail program that is a bit more elevated than you'd expect. That's all thanks to the Steven Sedillos and his infinite creativity. At the Blue Bull he's able to do a lot with a little, stocking only the speciality spirits and ingredients he needs to make his mashups and keeping recipes simple enough that the entire staff can keep em consistent. I ordered the Moscow mule riff made with St. George's green chile vodka. It's kind of my new obsession ever since I tasted it. The infusion is done with natural flavors and the taste of the spirit is like biting into a fresh jalapeño. Add in some spicy ginger beer and a few other simple ingredients and you've got a lovely drink. I had the chance to meet the owner Terry at an event, and he said The Blue Bull is Carson's Unpretentious Cocktail Bar, and Id pretty much agree. The menu Steve created is fun, and so is the staff, but to me it's still more of that neighborhood bar, and that's totally cool. I just wish they didn't allow smoking. read more

Can't really say too much about the Blue Bull. The only time we've been in here is on the Carson Wine Walk. And since it's one of only 2-3 places on the east side of 395, we seldom come in even THEN. But, the times we HAVE stopped in, the lady behind the bar has been more than friendly. I like the 'old fashioned' signs hanging on the walls here. They certainly remind us of a different time (way back before political correctness ruined the country). We seldom come downtown to hang out at night, so I'm guessing we won't see what the crowd looks like in here on an average evening. Nothing against the Bull, just our habits. read more

Last night I witness the most horrible way of handling a situation. This guy was slammed against the floor he wasn't even refusing or showing signs to refuse to leave. I saw him being slammed against the floor and blood coming out !!! It was pretty scary. Never myself or friends will be visiting this place again!!!! I went here on Nevada Day, so I can't vouch for the atmosphere usually at this place. Nice, fun bar with plenty of seating, pool table, a few TVs, kitschy and predictable art on the walls. My party was doing shots, but one of my companions ordered a Moscow Mule, which surprised me, given the all-American-neighborhood-bar vibe I got from the place, and they offered Picon Punches as well, a great nod to the local Basque population. Since the atmosphere was 'party' and 'loud', respectively, that night, I didn't get a chance to talk to the bartender or ask to see a menu or list of specials. This warrants another visit to the bar when it is not Nevada Day. read more

excuse my language but, FUCK THIS PLACE! The bartenders are rude especially the female one, you cant miss her she kinda looks like a man. I accidentally spilled a cup of ice and she threw a rag at me to clean it up. I have never been treated so terribly at a bar. I had only had one drink and I was out of there after that. Cheap stiff drinks and surly bartenders. This is my kind of bar. They have pool tables to play on and a few cozy seating areas to chill out once you're drunk. The bar has some slots (pretty typical NV) I've won more than my bar tab a few times. They have a really long happy hour and a nifty "Shake a Drink" if you're daring enough! First time I had Jameson with a pickle back was St. Patty's at the Bull. Good stuff. Super divey and sketchy at times but it's Carson, you kinda expect that once the sun sets. Once you're good and drunk you can stumble to the Nugget for some crappy coffee shop food. and then head back to the Bull for a night cap. you'll probably run into someone you know here if you're from the area. read more

This bar opened, as has been stated in other reviews in place of the Antique Shop that closed about two years ago. No food is served. So, smoking is ubiquitous. If that is bothersome, there are places like Firkin and Fox that have both a restaurant with a bar and a separate bar that serves no food where smoking is allowed. I don't smoke, and don't like to be around smoke....so I will usually either arrive to this bar early where there are few people around and no one smoking, or arrive later and hole up in an area where the smokers aren't congregating. I make it work. I do wish that they'd serve food, as it would be both convenient AND keep out the smokers. No offense to all the smokers...... Drinks are plenty strong, and the prices are better than average. They also have the longest (and latest) Happy Hour in Carson City: 3p-8p Monday through Thursday, 12p-8p on Fridays with great specials. They also have several types of pitchers of mixed drinks that are made right in front of you (check the menu.....they seem to change based on the season) and if ordered will save you a bundle. If a certain drink is normally $6....and you purchase the pitcher that pours four of the same sized drinks for $15....then you do the math. Bartenders Cam and Rachel are very customer service oriented, and are excellent at what they do. The decor is very reminiscent of a 40's upscale bar with the addition of an darts system, TVs and digital jukebox. The vibe is totally neighborhood bar until about 10'o clock on Friday and Saturday nights when all the beautiful people in Carson City who either don't want to go into Reno for whatever reason or don't want to pay a visit to Opal at Mont Bleu begin filtering in and drinking up a storm. The atmosphere has NOT gone grungy since Doppelganger's closed down....all of the grungy types have drifted over to Toad's. Since I like the sleek feel of this bar, the pleasant bartenders and clientele, creative drink menu and below average prices I recommend it. My favorite bar in downtown Carson city, there's more of a tougher crowd in here but there's always something exciting going on (fights, drama, etc..) anyways the prices are reasonable and the bartenders are decent. There is always great music playing. read more

Hands down one of the best bars in Carson City. Amazing bartenders, great drink specials, and there is always someone there. This is the hot spot on Friday and Saturday nights. As a karaoke songstress, I tend to hang out in a lot of bars. On any given week, I will be at the Blue Bull on Wednesdays, Jimmy G's on Thursdays, and my Saturdays are spent at Tommy's. I have to say though, while Tommy's is my first and favorite, I keep ending up back at the Blue Bull after the Jimmy G's show on Thursdays. Or should I say Friday morning. It's smoky, but I'm a smoker so it's not too bad for me. There are moments however, when even I will slip out the back door into the alley. The Blue Bull is a place where the music is LOUD and the people are packed in like sardines. Where in many bars this could easily go south quickly, it's all mellow yellow. Yes, the people jostle and you will more than likely end up soaking in beer, but the person who spilt the drink will more than likely apologize profusely and you will make a friend for the night. This is a place where Rocky Horror lives on the karaoke mic in pleasant harmony with Johnny Rotten, Stevie Wonder and Freddie Mercury. I also don't drink often. Cam, the bartender for the most part whenever I'm there, teases me sometimes about not drinking but he's just joshing. I grew up in bars though, as my family runs a pub over in Ayrshire, and I can see that Cam is generous on the pour. Over the last few months, Cam and his friends have become friends with me and mine. Having a good relationship with your bartender can make all the difference. Cam is the type who remembers what you're drinking and unless you yell, yes you have to yell because this bar HOPS at night, a different order,a single raised hand will get you another round of your poison of choice. read more

If you want a good time? Keep walking. Never have I ever been treated with such distaste. Here you will find a crowd that hates tourist, and bartenders that hate anybody that does not have a reputation of tipping above 25%. It's an act of God this place is still open with so many quality bars and lounges within walking distance. The drinks are overpriced, and the service is what you can expect from a DMV. It's a good thing I left before my night was ruined. Thankfully a short walk across the street will bring you to the Carson City Cigar Bar. Here you will find a crowd that is warm, and an atmosphere that welcomes strangers as potential friends. The "Bull" is a total "Bro Bar", the kind of place where you go to look for a fight, or to catch syphilis. Not the place to find to local flavor or a staff of good character. I really do like this bar, but since I really don't know what medium to use to say this, I'm going to write it here: they really need to get rid of their bouncer, Justin Case. This guy is known here for preying on drunk female patrons, one being my friend, trying to get them to perform sex acts on him in the alley way of Blue Bull. She did not want me to say when it happened because she did not want our friends to get involved and get arrested. Some of our friends had said they also saw him put something in my friend's drink, and she did act weird (she never gets drunk, regardless of how much she drinks), but I cannot guarantee this. I'm saying this now because two other women have described similar events and are able to state what tattoo he has on his genitalia to prove it (a cross). I'm sure many others who work here can verify this happens, since he is on the clock when he does it sometimes. It's predatory. Please do something about this. read more

I love the Blue Bull. That's where you go after work to get a drink and chill out, or where you go if you want to party and meet new people later in the evening. It's a locals bar with a mix of every kind of local. I think it's funny to see the reviews on here complaining about service, or attitude. You know what? It's a Carson City bar not a wine tasting. So what if the bartender threw a rag your way instead of kneeling before you cleaning up your mess, or if they vetoed your music choice. You know what else the bartender does? Ignores you when you yell profanity when you miss your shot at pool. Laughs when your beer belch echos off the walls. Let's you sit there looking ugly for two hours. read more

I too stumbled upon this bar by accident, at about 3 a.m. It was lively and welcoming and the people inside were'nt all gross and scary like most bars in Carson at 3 a.m. In comparison with other places I have visited in Carson, this lounge was the classiest. I will probably go back again. It's a great place I think if you want to avoid the thugs and "people of wal mart (.com)". Seemed like a nice spot to get liquored up, have conversation and socialize. I was especially fond of the furniture and lighting for some reason. read more
