Yes! That's the…read moreanswer to the question for this establishment. Yes, the food is good and my wife has learned how to order it so that we can share tastes and enjoy the meal. The other night we ate in courses we started with sharing the brussels sprouts then we each had a cup of the stew, and we concluded by sharing a hamburger. Well, I got 75% of the hamburger. We ate in the bar again on that night and so we were able to have interaction with the ownership team. Nice people who stayed engaged with us while they were doing side work. Oh, and I can't forget the cocktails. My wife and I feel like Norm from cheers as the owner knows what we like and makes it very well. So, I don't think you can really go wrong when you add up the environment, the food and the pleasant personalities.

We tried the new clubhouse shortly after it opened with high hopes--we loved the old country…read moreclub--and we were left with an overall feeling of meh. Since it was so close to opening, and to take advantage of their kids-eat-free promo, we decided to try again. Let's start with the positives: that bar is hopping. Their happy hour menu looks and sounds good, and we got drinks served to our table from the bar, and they were tasty. All started off well. I ordered the pasta with blackened chicken and added shrimp, my husband had the ribeye, and our kids had the cheese pizza and butter noodles respectively. The kids' food came out first. The flatbread pizza was what you'd expect, which is fine for a kid's menu. Nothing to write home about, but it does the trick. The butter noodles were actually very tasty! I snuck a bite while making sure it was cool enough for my youngest. My pasta, however, was not great. The chicken was not blackened--it was barely seasoned. And it was obviously some pre-cooked slices of frozen chicken. The little chunks seemed to be commercially-prepared, compressed chicken breast The taste was so off-putting, I stopped eating the chicken altogether. The shrimp, which is an add-on or substitution option, was cooked well and had good flavor. The vegetables were some frozen diced mix that were soggy and lifeless. The sauce itself was just ok. No depth of flavor and needed more salt and pepper. I would not be surprised if the sauce, chicken, and veggies were some pre-made, frozen mixture they received from their supplier, to which they added the pasta, shrimp, and some diced tomatoes. I stopped eating my meal and ate my youngest's unfinished pasta instead. It comes with no salad or bread and a hearty price tag. I definitely do not recommend. My husband's steak was cooked to the ordered temperature (mid-rare), and they did have blue cheese crumbles, which he always adds. The cut was of low quality, however, so the overall experience was subpar. Broccolini was cooked well but under seasoned. Mashed potatoes were fine. We won't be back, unless it's a date night happy hour bar situation.

So there we were. We…read morewanted to take a bike ride, have breakfast, and enjoy a beautiful spring day. We did all of that and we decided to have breakfast at the Overland. We knew it wasn't going to be crowded and the food will be fresh, but it was so much more than that. Overland is lucky to employ Tennessee, who might just be the best server in the Carson Valley. I grant you that we haven't been to every restaurant and we haven't had every server and so it could be hyperbole to try to tell you that he's the best, but we need to be sure to let you know that he is clearly in the top percentile of quality, local servers. Why you ask. He anticipated our every need, and so we always had water, always had coffee, and he cleared every single time he got near the table. His positive energy is infectious. Yes, I can hear you now, what about the food? My wife can, on occasion, high maintenance, and this was one of those mornings. She ordered the Eggs Benedict without the bottom bread plus one more whole extra Eggs Benedict, and Tennessee didn't flinch. I ordered the vegetarian omelette and I had side breakfast potatoes. All of it tasted great. I even tried the hollandaise sauce on my wife's eggs Benedict and it tasted fresh and tasty. So, I say give Tennessee a raise, and when you go to the Overland, hope that you get seated in his section because it will be an experience that you won't forget soon, and the food is very good. Somehow, this breakfast restaurant is flying under the radar on Saturdays and Sundays. They truly deserve to be packed as they have the formula for success, great service, good food, and a clean environment..

I travel with my service dog, shown in these photos. but if you have a dog who's mainly a pet you may need to leave them in an environmentally controlled vehicle or at home. Well the ambience can't be beat here. The ceilings are surprisingly tall for someplace of this age. There's no shortage of things to look at on the wall. Very interesting. Best of all there is a lovely vanilla smell permitting every corner of the venue. I don't know if it's a candle or essential oil or what but i like it!!

Sure, we…read morewent over the pass 3-4 times during our week stay to the lake, but we also discovered THIS gem while exploring the immediate area. We loved this place so much that we were impressed with ourselves the day that we did NOT make a stop by this bar, and perhaps we even stopped by twice if eating in Genoa. You walk in (by the way, look like a regular, and PUSH the very low doorknob, not pull like I did initially) and immediately know it is dripping with history, divey-ness, and awesomeness. The crowd comes in waves, as it is a popular drop-in for people coming through town as well as many very welcoming and friendly locals. Actually, I want to say again how awesome the regulars were. Not sure how I would feel if constant tourist dropped in my homestead, but everyone we talked to who was local was awesome and inviting. The bar had an IPA for me. They have a pool table. They have a jukebox (which defaulted to glam rock when we were there, so I LOVED that). They have cool merch. They have some awesome stuff on walls and ceiling. They have some fantastic mixed drinks, including one of the better Bloody Mary's my wife has had as well as a unique, tasty hot drink (Hot Buttered Buccaneer Drink). They have a spacious outdoor area. They don't have food, but we had a burger and burger salad (wife) from the food truck there, and it was stellar. The fries were great too. Back to the bar though. And, every bartender who served us during the week gave us friendly, efficient, perfect service. Once we realized that South Tahoe was irritatingly tourist overpopulated at this time of year, we decided to attend this cool candle-lighting tradition they did on NYE there instead of figuring out logistics over the pass. The event was SOOOO cool, and they even had a fun band later that night that they somehow packed into the jukebox corner. Hope I don't forget anyone. Whether you get Syd, Gabby, Candi, Dee, Carrie, or Ginger (the only one I didn't meet personally), you will love your experience here. They were all rock stars during our visits. I can't say enough good things about this bar, it really made "our South Tahoe trip," and you should swing by if in the area. I highly recommend this place, and see you there (the next time we are in the area)...

And we brought some Bay Area friends with us. We also came in mid-week to avoid any crowd potential. Our evening began at the bar with a round of Picon Punch, the official drink of the State of Nevada. I first thought that this was a drink that you only ordered once, but this small glass of goodness actually grew on us. After closing the bar bill and looking at all the branded merchandise, it was off to the main dining room. We chose the Basque Family Style side of the menu, which at the end of the evening resulted in number of take home containers. Our 4 choices were Basque Chicken, Fish, Lamb Shoulder, and Lamb Chops. Those came with Vegetable Soup, Salad, Beef Stew, Beans, French Fries, Bottle of Red Wine, Coffee, and Ice Cream. for the Table. These inclusive choices were priced just south of $40 and that's what the bill was at the end of the evening, as there were no extras needed. OK, the included wine was a little on the sweet side, but we didn't see the need to "upgrade" as we were too busy concentrating on the food. It was all good, especially the Soup and the French Fries. The only regret was not being here on the night they served Huckleberry Ice Cream, but our Vanilla or Pistachio Almond was good enough. JT Basque is family generation owned, and we certainly felt welcome and well taken care of. The rustic decor was also cool, as was the happy energy in the dining room. We promise to come back and not be strangers.

The JT is by far my favorite Basque restaurant in the entire region and I'm not shy about that,…read moretelling anyone who will listen that this is the basque experience they need to have to understand why this is so beloved, and I'm so embarrassed to say I had not written a review professing the same until today! Why is this THE ONE when it comes to Basque dining? Well... It's steeped in history in a way you can feel from the moment you step onto the wooden sidewalk out front. You'll see it on the walls, hear it in the conversations, and taste it in the food. This is simply a special place. You'll feel truly at home, and that's because the same family has operated it for countless generations, passing down legendary hospitality like a family heirloom. From friendly greetings in the "lobby" to the homey vibes and warm servers, you'll love every moment. Doesn't hurt that the food is delicious and plentiful. Everything is made from scratch with a lot of love, and each dish is huge and hearty. Lamb chops and lamb shoulder steaks are always A+ but be sure to order the desired temp because they don't always ask. Steaks are solid too. Same tip as above. And for all three, don't forget to get them smothered in whole cloves of roasted garlic. Personally I usually can't say no to sweetbreads at a Basque spot, and that's the case here as well. They're served in a rich, garlicky and well seasoned gravy, studded with red and green peppers and whole cloves of garlic. It's the perfect dish to use up the extra bread because you won't want to leave a drop. Make sure you bring a couple bucks to leave up on the ceiling! The bartenders can show you how to make em stick. And of course, have a picon punch!
