The food is always good. It's the service I've had problems with. As a senior woman I enjoy my free time to eat out on occasion. Because of inflation it's become a treat that I can barely afford. My last experience at the Box was just as disappointing my other visits. I'm seated right away. Given a menu. And then the wait begins. I know what I want. It's always the same. Little gem in Carson City in Hwy 50 near Smith's. Small and very busy on a Sunday morning but we grabbed a couple spots at the counter. The staff are on the go constantly and the tables were full with groups waiting outside. Great coffee but average wait time. But it's not because you are being ignored The cooks are passing out plates constantly. I ordered the eggs with bacon, potatoes and toast. My companion had the linguisa omelet. the portions are HUGE. This was such a better experience than my last visit! The server was friendly and checked in often. For my meal, I got the spinach, feta, and olive omelette, and added bacon to it. This server also made this experience better than the last one because she actually heard me when I said to leave the potatoes off as I am allergic to onions. She then went above and beyond when she offered a substitute item (I chose cottage cheese). My omelette came out perfectly cooked, seasoned just right, and overflowing with toppings. This dinner/cafe reminded me of my childhood. As soon as you walk in you're greeted by the view of the grill area. The cook working away with precision and accuracy. The waitresses are busily tending to their many customers and encouraging you to find a seat and get comfortable. Orange juice is freshly squeezed. That was a surprise. And a very happy one at that. I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich and I got the cod, fish and chips for my son and we both enjoyed our lunch very much. The eggs, potatoes and toast were very good. The portions were a very good size. My wife's omelet was big and my daughter's pancakes were huge. Our bill was 48 and change. I paid with 3 20's and she gave me a ten a one and change back. Two fives or more ones would have been nice. Almost forced to leave a ten dollar tip. It was just chatter that was going on but not too loud so it was nice to have a convo at the table without having to be louder than the music. The food was okay. I would say that my favorite dish was my sons ham and cheese sandwich on sourdough bread. The crunch was amazing the cheese was not overwhelming. He loved the ham. Home fries or potatoes were nicely sliced and cooked crispy.. A solid hash.. Services needs to improvement. My father and husband went to Cracker Box for breakfast and ordered a bowl of oatmeal and a bagel smear. They waited for 30 minutes after ordering. They noticed other customers who showed up and were seated about 15-20 minutes after they arrived had ordered and received their food. Because of the Very poor service they both got up and left. Not sure if they/we will Not be patrons of this establishment again. I Called to complain and the "so called manager"was rude. She said that our order time was 12 minutes. Was it 12 minutes from the time they noticed they hadn't turned in the ticket. Still it doesn't justify the 30 minutes my father and husband waited after ordering. When they arrived and ordered there were Very Very minimal patron when they arrived. After they placed their order was when other patrons showed up. So the complaint seemed to be dismissed as the "so called manager" told myself that they had to eat the cost of the breakfast due to my father and husband after noticing the patron had been served their order. Let's start with the best cup of Joe I've had in a long time *(and I had to purchase a Cracker Box cup with the "cookin eggs for a flippin long time" quote). Next the menu has every classic Americana breakfast option you could ever dream of. We both ordered omelets ( I got the 'Kitchen Sink' ) and it all arrived quickly hot and steamin!! And we both tucked right in... Quiet settled over the table as we ate... no time for talking now... the food was at the forefront...and quickly was eaten! Do not pass up on the small businesses!!! My husband and I drove out of Lake Tahoe just to come here. We came to Cracker Box for brunch and drove 30 minutes to see what it was all about. This is a must try! The exterior of the restaurant itself wasn't in the best condition but when you walked in it was clean. We were seated not so much greeted and customer service wasn't at its finest but it was busy. We ordered and our meal took some time. Food was great, service was fantastic however the line cook has severe anger issues. He was clearly flustered by the number of tickets and was taking it out on the wait staff and his prep cook. He was verbally abusive towards her and on at least 4 occasions I watched him intentionally bump into her.
