The obvious bakery items are gorgeous. Her sourdough bread is entirely sourdough. No added yeast. Giant point for me. As I've recently discovered, some of our great sourdough establishments have small, tiny signs that state, added yeast. Anneke "Darling Bakery" offers Some yummy sandwiches and I had the pastrami. It was delicious! The bread was cut to the perfect slice. Not too thick, not too thin. While here, the girls were walking around with a variety of local sourced ice cream samples. Yum! I loved the T-Shirt Anneke was wearing so had to buy one. Support local Bakers & Farmers is a beautiful graphic in the back. I'll wear it proudly. It would have been nice if the employees could have proactively described the pastries to us because I think it was pretty apparent that we were first time visitors with our "ooos" and "ahhs" as we entered. I also asked about a few of the drinks and was encouraged to try the horchata frappe. I didn't taste any coffee in it and again it stuck with the theme of mildly sweet. I have to admit I was not a fan of the texture, something about the high cinnamon and blended ice volume almost made it feel like I was drinking wet sand. I would not order that again. We also asked for a cup of water but were never given one (perhaps they forgot?). In short, I'm not against trying Anneke's one more time if I'm out that way (maybe a cinnamon roll would be more to my sweet tooth preferences and I could try a different coffee) but my experience this time was a 3 out of a 5. The patio outside wasn't bad. The shade was nice on a hot morning and the flowers on the table were a nice touch so I'd say the ambiance was good. Service was friendly and the food was excellent. The Reuben is a thick hot pastrami on grilled Jewish rye with Swiss, sauerkraut, and Thousand Island. The Tahoe Blue is a hot albacore tuna melt on grilled sourdough with cheddar. Both came with a side as advertised, salad on my plate and fries on my wife's with Ranch dressing to dip the fries in. Portions were generous and the bread is amazing and baked in-house daily. The bakery case is one of many reasons to come back....! Coffee cakes, croissants, cookies, fruit tarts, and packaged loaves were all out and labeled. We bought croissants and cookies to take back to camp and they traveled (and ate) well....! The one real drawback is the building. The bakery and restaurant share a door with C.O.D. Casino next door. When that door opens, cigarette smoke comes into the dining and bakery area. The restroom is also on the casino side. That does not change the quality of the sandwiches or pastry, but it is noticeable and it is worth knowing before you sit down, especially if you are sensitive to smoke or bringing food out for a trip. Note: they do have outdoor seating. We love having this place close to home and will use it again for lunch and bakery takeout for sure! It is excellent, hand-made in small batches ice cream with some unusual flavors and always with a 14% butterfat content. This ice cream is worth seeking out!

Crisp and light to the bite. One of the best brittle I've ever had. For pls stay away from brittle thinking it's hard tooth breaking. Not theirs. Thin n crisp. Can't forget about the salt water taffy. They had a ton of different flavors and it's also priced by weight. The taffy is sweet and chewy, melt in your mouth. Sooo many flavors. It looks just like the other location, and it sits at the base of the hill that provides the southern entrance to Virginia city. It was a great store. The lady at the store was very friendly. I told her that we had been to the other store a few times, but this was our first visit to this store. She told us that "this is where the magic happens." this is the location where they make the chocolates and candy, and then send it on to the other store. It has everything that the other store has, chocolates, taffy, assorted candies, including hard candies, peanut brittle, the works. They have a large selection of loose chocolate in bins, so you can get a little bit of this, and a little bit of that. It's charged by the pound. My brother got some chocolates for both him. And his wife back home, and he also got another bag of the jalapeño brittle. I'm the one that "turned him on" to it, and he's gotten to like it as well. I also got some of the chocolates, and I picked up two bags of the jalapeño brittle, and because I got two bags, because of a special they were running I also got a complementary bag of caramel corn. I hear it's very good stuff like everything they have here, but because I had so much candy already, the caramel corn ended up being a gift. The price is for everything was reasonable, based on the high-quality of their candy, and they do a military/veterans discount. Both of their stores are great.
