    Red curry

Staying in town for a snow trip and looking for places to eat and while scrolling this place statistically stands out among the rest. Curious, I urged my friends to come with me and honestly it was the best decision of our trip. We were a bit intimidated by the location, a countertop set up nested in the middle of a casino. The cigarette smell isn't noticeable at the counter, and Chuck and TJ are just amazing. Since everything is just at the counter, the service is super amazing and you can watch them prepare your food in the spot. Chuck gave us an amazing intro into Indonesian culture and how the food scene evolved over the past years. We ordered the pot roast, nasi goreng, and red curry. All dishes were absolutely stellar. The food was made with heart and the conversation with Chuck was super fun. I think I would definitely encourage my friends to stay in Carson City again in our next trip just so we could hit this spot. Will try my best to return to this gem of a hole in the wall.

What a great experience at Tee Jay's! We had a great time chatting with Chuck about the restaurant and the food. He is incredibly knowledgeable and was a pleasure speaking with. We had stopped into Tee Jay's as part of my quest to get a hot dog in every state capital in the US. Tee Jay's was our Carson City stop. It's located inside the casino so don't expect to see a sign on the street. Head on in to the well-lit counter restaurant in the corner. Be sure to watch their hours so you don't catch them during the break between meals. We were a few minutes early for dinner but Chuck waved us over and got us started. So much of the menu looked great but, again, we were their for hot dogs and, in particular, their famous, legendary Rendang Dawg. It was topped with a delicious rendang steak curry that was super flavorful. Then topped with a pickled cucumber dressing (achar) and then crunchy fried onions. Chuck recommended using a fork and knife and, after the first few bites, you kinda have to because the toppings are just overflowing. The bun and dog itself are big too. I would love to return to Tee Jay's and just sit and order and sample so many things. Hopefully I have that opportunity!

I keep coming back to Tee Jay's. Since my first review I've gotten to know Chuck and Tee Jay a lot better, and I can say that these guys care about the food they are making, the customers they are serving, and the community they are both living in and building up. It helps that they are serving some of the best food in all of northern Nevada. If you're a Carson local, or someone from Reno and you haven't been you owe it to yourself to check this place out. Get the nassi goreng, get the curry, get the pasta, or get a burger, it will not disappoint.

Just a tiny corner bar in a casino with the best food and customer service!! The staff were welcoming and incredibly educational. Telling us all about the spices that go into Indonesian food and the history. Tee Jay himself cooks up the food. If I could recommend any place to eat in Carson city it would be here.

Fried Banana & Coconut Ice Cream

We were driving through Carson City when visiting Lake Tahoe, so we decided to stop for lunch. This spot is inside of a casino which was the only downside for me. Casinos don't bother me, but I don't love being around smoke. You can always get takeout though. My husband and I shared: - Indo Burrito - Krakatoa Cheese Steak - Fried Banana & Coconut Ice Cream The Krakatoa Cheese Steak is one of the best things I've eaten this year. It was a mess, but you won't care with how good it tastes. We also loved the burrito and would happily try anything else on the menu. I was sad that the fried bananas came covered in chocolate sauce (not listed on the menu) because I really don't like chocolate. I ate around it as much as I could and they were still amazing. This was hands down the best place we ate while in Tahoe. It's a bit of a drive, but I would do it just to eat here.

    Krakatoa Cheesesteak
    Katherine C.

The Krakatoa cheesecake was absolutely delicious -- such complex, well-balanced flavors, and the unique sauce really elevated the dish. I also loved how it paired with the thinly sliced steak(cooked perfectly); everything felt thoughtfully seasoned. The cheesesteak with crispy fries was hands down my favorite item and something I'd definitely order again. The pad Thai was also great -- slightly sweet with nice hints of ginger that made it really enjoyable. What truly stood out, though, alongside the Krakatoa Cheesesteak, was the experience. Both co-owners, Teejay and Chuck, came by to talk with us and share the stories behind the dishes we ordered. You can genuinely tell the food is made with heart, soul, and intention. Teejay explained what makes Indonesian cuisine unique, which made the meal even more meaningful. Chuck also told us about their Moby Dick-inspired clam chowder -- I loved the generous amount of black pepper, though I think it could've used a bit more clams. My cousin did mention that she noticed a very noticeable cigarette smoke smell since the café is located in a casino, but it personally didn't bother me much. Overall, great food, warm hospitality, and a really memorable dining experience. The passion behind the dishes truly shines through.

Great food, quick service, and very friendly people. Relatively quiet today - especially for a Saturday - however, it was nice not to have to wait in a line or for a long time to get our food. We ordered the drunken noodles with tofu (spicy and oh so delicious!), fish and chips (really enjoyed the fish - for the first time - with malt vinegar and thoroughly enjoyed the tartar coleslaw), and pad Thai with chicken (left the plate very clean). Was also able to enjoy some shrimp chips (haven't had these in years)! I used to work in a Malaysian restaurant and miss the food so much, so I was thrilled to see Indonesian food! I'll be back - need to try the other dishes!

TeeJay's Corner Cafe This is a review for my experience eating lunch at TeeJay's Corner Cafe. It is a a diner where East meets West, inspired by Indonesian spices and flavors. They serve Asian and American entrees. WEBSITE: teejayscornercafe.com LOCATION: It is located in Cactus Jack's Casino. It is a small diner, with a bar top, seating about 12 people around the perimeter. HOURS: M-F Lunch 10-2 Dinner 4-8 Sat Dinner 4-8 Sun Closed MENU: They have daily specials. We went on a Tuesday and it was pad Thai. You can select your own meat, so we opted for the chicken Pad Thai. They also serve other noodle dishes, so we got the drunken noodles as well. Chicken Pad Thai: Excellent! Flat thin rice noodles, served with bean sprouts, carrots, and broccoli as the vegetables, with peanuts as a garnish. The noodles were cooked to perfection. Very flavorful! It was the perfect balance of sweet, sour, and spicy. If you have a more advanced palate I definitely recommend ordering their Pad Thai. Drunken Noodles with Beef: They are called "drunken noodles" because this dish is the best thing to eat after a night out on the town. It is more mild than Pad Thai, but still just as tasty! The noodles are thicker and the sauce is savory. Beef was tender and it had the same vegetable elements, with the broccoli, carrots, and bean sprouts. Very good! THAI TEA: Thai tea is a sweet drink made from black tea, milk, and sugar. Their Thai tea was very refreshing and yummy! *I appreciated the refills :) SERVICE: The cooking takes place in an open kitchen, so you can watch the spectacular chefs stirring up your dishes right before your eyes. Everyone was friendly and I appreciated having conversations with them while eating my meal. It was a pleasure eating at TeeJay's. I could taste all of the love that was put into our noodle plates. Very flavorful! I am looking forward to my next meal there!

    Indo Burrito

Tee Jay's Corner Cafe is an unexpectedly delicious Indonesian American fusion diner hidden away inside an unassuming casino. When my wife and I visited Lake Tahoe, we both agreed it was the best meal we had during our trip. The service was fast and friendly, the owners are very welcoming. As for the food, my wife and I shared the Indo Burrito, the Krakatoa Cheese Steak, and the Fried Banana with Coconut lce Cream. To this day, I still think about how good the Krakatoa Cheese Steak was. The Indo Burrito was good too but I'll order the cheese steak again before I order the burrito again.

Took my friend here for her birthday and it did not disappoint!! Both Tee Jay and Chuck made our dinners perfectly. I had the Drunk'n Noods and my friend had a Western Cheese Burger with Jalapeños in fried cheese. It was her first time coming to Tee Jays and she was impressed. Tee Jay surprised her coconut ice cream on top of sticky rice and a song. Then Chuck entertained us with another birthday song and Tee Jay danced. It was a perfect birthday dinner for my friend. Thank you Tee Jay and Chuck.

Inside dark slot machine casino. Slight odor of smoke. Counter service and take out. Tee Jay and friend are really friendly. Indonesian food with some random other Asian dishes (kung pao and pad Thai) and traditional lunch counter dishes and some very creative casseroles.

    Lumpia
    Maxwell B.

Tee Jay's Corner Cafe was an absolutely unexpected delight! My gf and I, both from San Francisco, visited Carson City briefly on a Tahoe trip and were treated to easily the best Indonesian cuisine we've ever had - and at a counter-only cafe in a small casino, no less. The proprietor and co-chef, a friendly older gentleman, gave us a rundown of what to expect from Indonesian food in terms of ingredients and flavor profile, and then it was off to the races. We got nasi goreng with shrimp, pineapple chicken, soo hoon with tofu, and an Indonesian take on lumpia (vegetarian). All were phenomenal. If you're in the Tahoe or Reno area, Tee Jay's is worth the drive alone.

The boba is gritty squares in different colors with odd taste (not chewy round balls). But the green tea on ice, it came with was good. The meatball pho I usually get now also has raw beef slices also put directly ON the noodles it comes with. Ir they got the order incorrect three times. I would never order anything raw normally. I was surprised to see blood soaked noodles when I opened my to-go container. The meatballs were ok but not the size or consistency of all the other phos I've had. The little bag of bean sprouts was minimal quantity of sprouts, basil I had to throw most out with black leaves. I've tried this place twice in 6 months getting meals for two to -go each time and won't be back. 5 months ago I ordered and 2 meals were both wrong when I got home so that's a separate issue to check your order before you leave. Hopefully they get it all fixed as this is a great location.

We usually order our food to go, and we were happy to see that they have upgraded to to-go bowls. Sadly, the things the pho is served with (packets, basil, limes, onions, jalapeños, sprouts) were all thrown into 1 bag instead of 3 separate bags-1 for each person. This made it hard as 1 person in our group is allergic to onions and asked for no onions and there was still onions in the bag...just a smaller portion than for 3 orders. We also have one person that can't do spicy and having the jalapenos in the bag made everything spicy. We all found several dark hairs in our food. We know it isn't ours since 2 are bald and I am blonde. IF we return, we will definitely be asking for everything to be separate since 2 of our 3 people only got to eat noodles and their meat.

So, my local friend wanted to take me to this Thai restaurant right down on the main street in downtown, if Carson has an actual downtown that is. We got parking right in front of the place on the main street. Inside is nice and elegant in a Thai kinda way. Nicer than a casual mom and pop Thai joint. We get seated at a nice table near the front. My friend already knows the menu, so I go with hos suggestion for the Lunch special Duck with sauce over rice. It's $22 bucks, so it better be good! He has the Thai battered salmon for around $19. Soup is included and it's just a veggie broth, though tasty. Then our lunch specials come out. Oh wow, that duck look really good. It's totally deboned, so no messing with bones at all. The sauce was super tasty. My friend said he thinks its some sort of duck juice reduction with other added stuff. Whatever, this was one of the most tasty duck dishes I've ever had. His salmon was unique, I never saw a dish like that made with salmon. The coating was very unique and crispy and the salmon not over cooked. Overall, I really liked this place. I think my crew is having lunch at one of the local casinos, I'd rather be here!

The bill came to $80 which I felt was kinda steep for 3 items, especially in Carson City. The restaurant is located on a street where there was very limited parking in front and all the rear parking is super dark so bring your night vision goggles. At least there's plenty of parking spots. When I walked in, I was surprised to see Caucasian staff members! Well I guess this isn't that different than Panda Express where you have hispanics in the front and the 1 token asian in the back cooking. I picked up my food and was pleasantly surprised to find the dishes were pretty loaded. I started dipping into my duck curry and OMG it was probably the best I've had. Not only was the flavor amazing and spiced just right, but there was a generous amount of duck! When I went to eat dim sum recently and ordered roast duck, I got a plate of duck that was mostly skin and bones. Here they actually de-boned the meat so you're getting nice chunks of flavorful, meaty duck along with fresh chunks of pineapple, tomatoes, and spices with that yummy curry over my caucasian rice (I like to be culturally sensitive). Even my wife that don't like duck really enjoyed this. So while $80 for 3 dishes may seem a bit high, it was worth it. I really enjoyed my meal here and my kids also ate all their noodles with enough leftovers for lunch the next day.
