Spots like this are why I love Yelp. It's such an unassuming little joint. Tucked inside the tiny little Cactus Jacks casino resides Tee Jays. Never in a million years would I think this relic of the past is housing one of the best food joints around. I also love that it's an open lunch counter style kitchen. You get to watch the magic happen right before your eyes while you wait. Everything I've seen come out of this kitchen looks absolutely amazing. And to top it all off Tee Jay and staff are so nice and make you feel welcome from the moment you sit down. After being here a couple times this place seems to garner a pretty heavy crowd of regulars. Tee Jay and his partner in the kitchen seem to know most of the people that stop by so it's nice to see they love their guests as much as the guests love their food. Tee Jays serves up a variety of Asian, Indonesian and a variety of American food. I'll definitely need a few more trips here to be satisfied with the amount of items on the menu that I've tried. But everything I have eaten was so fresh and flavorful. Everything is made in house including the sauces and dressings from what they were telling us. The first time I stopped I tried the lumpia, gyoza and Tee Jays famed pineapple chicken. And the second time I got pad Thai, lumpia and a shrimp cocktail. The lumpia were so good and I'm not sure what the sauce is but it's so much better than any sauce I've been served with lumpia. The pineapple chicken was out of this world. The pineapple was done just right and didn't have that overpowering syrupy consistency some places have with their sauced entrees. All of the fried stuff tasted fresh, clean and was fried up perfectly and didn't come out all greasy. I had to get the shrimp cocktail purely because it feels like a casino nostalgic dish to me. It also was light and refreshing. Last but not least was the pad Thai which again was just delightful. The chicken was cooked right, it had the right amount of sauce and all the veggies were bright and flavorful. Now that it's slowly descending into fall I'll definitely be visiting to try out some of their comfort foods they have on the menu. Tee Jay and Chuck have always been welcoming and wanting to accommodate any dietary issue an individual might have. From the most delicious burgers and fries to amazing Indonesian food, I'm always happy I've chosen this corner cafe for a meal. In addition, they cater special events and Christmas dinners for the past five years have been unusual and delicious! Carson City is fortunate to have these two guys working to satisfy a variety of customers tastes. This restaurant is located in a casino so you have to expect casino ambiance. Nice staff,. but...about 5:30 on Saturday night there were only 5 people eating. My friend ordered a hamburger with Mayo but was told they were out of mayo. Then he ordered a tossed salad with ranch dressing, but they were out of ranch. I ordered a chicken fried steak with gravy and was told they were out of gravy but I could have a chicken fied stead burger with onion rings on it, OKJ The owner gave us free Pepsi for our trouble. Tee Jay's Corner Cafe has served me well as a great take out option. That's mostly because I'm not a big fan of stale cigarette smoke that comes from the casino side of Cactus Jack's. I may change my mind on that, as its quite pleasant to sit at the counter and interacting with the owner while waiting for my order. I also like Indonesian food of which I developed a fondness when I was on several business trips to the Netherlands in the day. That speaks to the "Colonial" theory of finding good ethnic restaurants. Maybe that's why Indian food is so good on the UK? For those who just want a burger/fries and other "American" food, Tee Jay's has your boring culinary back. Past that, there's so much yummy and well prepared food to choose from! My favorites (so far) is anything stir fry or anything curry, usually with chicken. I've been cautious on the spice and I'm ready for a little more. Or as the saying goes: If I'm not crying, it's not curry. It's all delicious throughout. That said, I have 2 regrets: 1. It's a bit of a schlep to get here from Genoa, so my meal stops have been the "I happen to be in the neighborhood" variety. 2. Hours are somewhat limited: 10-2 and 4-8 weekdays, 4-8 on Saturdays, and closed on Sundays. Note: If Tee Jay's happens to be closed, my backup choices in Downtown Carson (with a couple blocks) would be Sumi Sushi and Basil Thai. read more

I ordered the Pineapple Chicken Rice, the Wonton Soup and the Coconut Soup . The gentleman at the counter taking orders and serving was extremely friendly and polite. While I awaited patiently for my order I observed the kind server engaging with the patrons who were enjoying Tee Jays dishes and watching their orders being prepared by the talented Chef. This Corner Cafe is a hidden gem and I would recommend it to anyone craving authentic Thai food. Tee Jays also offers other dishes other than Thai and serves breakfast all day ... however, if you are going to have your meals prepared by a Thai Chef you should definitely experience the delightful flavors of Thailand . First time at Tee Jay's corner and it was awesome. Food: I ordered the Shrimp Mie Goreng and the Indonesian Fried Chicken. Both dishes were delicious! As a side note, the fried chicken is not your regular battered juicy fried chicken. It reminded me of a home cooked fried chicken in asia; simple and nostalgic. The staff mentioned that it was marinated for 24 hours! Ask for their hot sauce! Just be careful. It's awesomely spicy. Service: Great service! Staff was awesome. They check on the customers regularly and make sure they are taken care of. One of the friendliest kitchen I have visited recently. Ambiance: Walk inside the casino and look for the neon signs! I'm kind of picky about my Pad Thai- as I've had it everywhere I go, including Bangkok- and it is spot on with that rich flavor profile! Very friendly and informative about the menu and its offerings. The starter of fried beef dumplings were good but a bit oily for my taste. For the main dish, I chose the drunken noodle, kung pao stirfry and the pad thai, all with beef. I loved the crispness of the vegetables and the distinctive Indonesian based flavors of tamarind and shrimp. The house made sambar paste was spicy but very flavorful with nice shrimp flavor and added that kick to these yummy dishes. I came again to this place over and over. This time with my coworkers. Four of us. This place Never disappoints. I order clam chowder, rendang, eggplant with shrimp, Singapore Noods with chicken and stir fried Cabe Gendot with beef. Rendang was awesome. Tender and juicy while the eggplant was creamy and savory. The chowder! Let me tell you: the best chowder I had in my life. Singapore noods, reminds me of pancit with a twist. I like this version, honestly. And Cabe Gendot with steak was amazing ! Wondered what the hub bub was about this little grill located in the Cactus Jack casino. I heard the hamburgers were always good but never knew about the Indonesian/Asian dishes served here. I tasted the green curry and it is chock full of veggies and has a nice amount of protein. It comes with white flaky rice. Nothing spicy, salty or garlic heavy. The unsweetened jasmine tea accompanied my dish perfectly. Lots of parking. Counter diner style seating, no tables. Located in a casino. Lots of take-out ordered here. If I were to ever have a food business, it would be akin to this. It's small enough to get to know your customers, has limited hours so you as an owner don't burn out, and the food is phenomenal. Customer service is wonderful. Chat, but not obnoxiously chatty. I ordered beef rendang that was so tender I practically did not have to chew. Served atop perfectly cooked rice accompanied by broccoli and a potato. I also ordered Jasmine tea. Thirst quencher that did not need sweetener. Absolutely wonderful. The ambiance is casual. Super casual. It's counter-style in a local casino. My friend who brought me here made apologies -- but I didn't care that I was sitting in the middle of years old second hand smoke (ok, slight exaggeration, but you know what I mean!). Finally got a chance to try Tee Jays and have to review how tasty their food was. Tucked into the back of an older dark casino is this little gem of a restaurant. It's a little odd where it's at, but doesn't take anything away from the food or the service. Both workers were extremely friendly and you could tell how grateful and happy we came as first time customers to try. It was hard not to feel like they were family friends cooking for us at home. We even came a little before closing and said we'd do take out since it was later, but they were happy to have us dine in. The food was AMAZING! They had so many options for such a small space. When they tell you something is spicy, please don't take it lightly though! I cant wait to come back and bring people passing through to try this place. Highly recommend stopping in! read more
