This is based on our personal opinion, but it was way, way, way too sweet. I think I can tolerate most sweet drinks but this felt like I was drinking out of liquid sugar. I can't comment on the tea flavor as the sweetness was too overbearing and masked the flavor of the tea itself. Doing a takeout delivery order, we would like to expect that the drinks will be near-perfect as we can't go back and have it adjusted to our liking. A lot of us ordered less sugar while I ordered a Winter Melon Milk tea with no added sugar on my drink; however once I sipped it, it seemed like there was an error made and they gave me full sweetness. I took in two teas that they gave me that was so bitter I could not drink it the girl tried to fix it by adding something she had given me a new cup, but After she stirred the tea that I had already drank from she put the spoon back into the cup that she got it from to use on future guests this was a too good to go offer. This is a cute little boba shop tucked away in the shopping plaza. Plenty of parking is available. They have a self-order kiosk which is very convenient and shows you more customizations than you would get by ordering in person. The first time I went here, I tried the fluffy strawberry matcha, which had a perfect flavor and sweetness. Their boba is high quality, but I couldn't taste any strawberry flavor in their strawberry boba. I would recommend sticking to brown sugar boba. The second time, I got the Maru Milk and didn't think it was outstanding enough to be their top drink. It's exciting that more boba places are making their way to south Orange County! Tea Maru is the newest kid on the block and they've brought house made boba with them. They make their boba fresh every day using real fruit and vegetables which is a plus. They're located in Quail Hill in an Albertsons shopping center so there's plenty of parking. It's a small shop but cute and clean. All of the signature drinks come with boba but if you order anything else, you'll have to add it on for $0.85-$1.25 depending on what kind you get. Their unique boba flavors include mango, strawberry and sweet potato (you can even mix all three). I had the Kiwi Citrus Breeze ($5.75) without any adjustments and it was good just the way it is. It was more citrus than sweet, so I'm glad I didn't get less sugar like I normally would. The default mango boba had a good chewy texture and a hint of mango flavor. I appreciate that you can really taste the tea in their drinks and they use quality ingredients. Because of the higher price point, this won't be my every day go-to place for boba. I'm glad there is another boba shop place from the San Gabriel Valley area that popped up in Irvine! Tea Maru claims that their boba are hand made and they offer a variety of boba flavors. I don't know how true this handmade boba is, but it definitely did not have the fresh boba texture (soft but chewy) when I came on a Thursday afternoon. I tried the Tea Maru Latte at 75% sweetness with less ice. The drink comes with a mix of boba flavors that they have on hand that day - Strawberry, Sweet Potato, and Brown Sugar. You can choose which tea you want - Oolong, Black, Four Seasons, or Jasmine. I chose Oolong, but they realized they didn't have enough to make a full drink so I said it was fine to add Black tea to finish it off. The tea taste was perfect - not too sweet and had a strong tea flavor. The boba was good, but did not taste freshly made and the individual flavors did not come through. It was still good boba nonetheless. The service was slow... there were only two workers making the drinks and taking orders. Nice, minimalist aesthetic with some unique boba ball flavors, but compared to the other boba shops in Orange County, I don't think it's even average. Overall it's kind of slow and didn't meet price and taste expectations. One positive thing to note, Tea Maru is the one of the few places I've seen with fruit boba like strawberry, mango, and sweet potato boba balls. While that is pretty good, I don't think it's worth the downsides of pretty much everything else. Strawberry fluff matcha: 2/5 Imagine a fruit gusher but now it's a drink. That's basically the strawberry fluff matcha.. its basically dalgona matcha fluff with milk and strawberries, and IMO it's not for me. If your taste buds are as "developed" as a teen who consumes 1kg of candy a day, this is for you. The matcha on top was weak and overpowered by the cream. Yeah, this drink wasn't for me. The single drink was $6.50 with boba which normally has to be worth it if it's that price, but it's not. Also, the line is pretty long here. Took about 20-25 minutes to get my drink, which is slower than most other shops aside from Omomo and sometimes Orobae. It could be better. read more

I recently revisited with Maru Milk dessert drink, it's pretty good. There's no tea, so this is much more like grabbing a delicious ice cream or something. It's a bit expensive as a milk drink, since it's $5.75 as of the time of this writing and there's no brewed parts, while the most expensive thing on the menu at the moment is $5.99 in the Taro Storm. This came with cheese foam, which tasted a lot like a frothed up cream cheese and it gave the drink that salty kick. Loved it. I don't like to mix foam into drinks, so the boba being unmixed at the bottom with foam on top was a little awkward, but it was good. The brown sugar boba is extremely strong and it adds a lot of sweetness, since it's drenched in syrup, but it somehow works with this decadent treat. I got 100% sweetness, but I'd probably prefer 75%. read more

I got 2 drinks from the too good to go deal and I seriously regret it. They choose the drink flavors for you which is the bad part. The drinks they gave me were absolutely disgusting. It wasn't sweet at all and I only tasted bitterness. Definitely don't recommend their deal drinks but can't say anything about their regular drinks. read more

Their boba was not too chewy and the tea wasn't too sweet. They have many variety of flavors to choose from. I like how their menu shows which teas has no caffeine as well. Each drink came in one size, and I like all the customized options. They have different types of boba - sweet potato, mango, strawberry, and brown sugar boba. Unfortunately, they had already run out of sweet potato and strawberry boba when I was there. You can adjust level of sweetness, type of milk, and how much ice you prefer. There were two employees making drinks, and I waited around 15-20 minutes for my order. Onto the flavors - The matcha has a deep earthy flavor. This isn't your typical sweet-tasting matcha powder - I could really taste the difference here compared to other boba shops. The taro slush was also distinct in flavor and didn't taste like regular taro powder. It was deeper in flavor, and my family enjoyed this drink. The boba was soft and chewy, the perfect consistency. I really wanted to like this place because it's in a cute plaza, and the name of the store is cute-- Tea Maru. But as soon as I walk in, a big messy haired young man stands up from being in a kneeling position behind the counter while on his phone, quickly puts his phone away, and he starts running his hands through his disheveled hair. And when I asked him questions about the drinks he didn't seem to know anything. I thankfully, the drink was not bad, which is why I gave them two star instead of one. But everything seemed unprofessional and unsanitary. For some reason, the "fluffy" descriptor intrigued me, although the description of the drink told me why it was termed "fluffy." Regardless, it was yum! I ordered it with soy milk instead and made it less sweet. It was smooth and yummy! There are many options to choose from, including different types of boba and types of milk (e.g., soy vs oat vs dairy milk). They certainly do give a lot of boba for each drink. Stopped by here for boba on our way back from the beach this weekend. The place is really small and right as we walked in I was slapped in the face by a strong odor...smelled like rotten milk. I later realized the scent was coming from their trash can. I'm guessing someone threw milk tea and it sat there for too long so it started to smell. Went there on a Thur afternoon ~3:30. Craving for Boba. Check Yelp for a close-by location, and saw Tea Maru. Since it's the first time so I just ordered the most popular item on the menu- " Maru milk" with regular sweetness, brown sugar boba and regular ice..... The server told me they went out of brown boba and would I need to wait 15 min, so I substituted with Mango boba. I was the only in-person customer at that time. I was disappointed with my drink. 1. mango baba has no mango taste, the chewy level is good, but what I can taste was only the sweetness but not mango boba. 2. He forgot to add ice in my drink. 3. Maru milk is just a very richly milky drink. Without ice, I am like drinking milky syrup. At the end, I just gave it up after drinking 1/3 of it. Overall, I would give it a benefit of doubt that the server was not experienced and the actual drink would have been way better. On to my next boba adventure...Tea Maru! I was picking up some KFC from bb.q Chicken, and saw this place. So, the boba addict in me, have to try it! Service: 4 out of 5 There was only one guy working the counter and making the drinks when I went. He was nice, friendly, and polite. He made his recommendations, and I really liked all of it. Drinks: 4 out of 5 I tried 3 of their drinks, (Tea Maru, Okinawa, Strawberry Matcha), and I really liked it! The Tea Maru was awesome! It was my favorite of the three. It was creamy, tasty, and it wasn't too sweet! I am known for being too picky on the sweetness, but this one wasn't too sweet at 75%. The milk and tea ratio on the Okinawa were right on point as well. The Strawberry Matcha was also made fresh. Some places you'll taste an awful seaweed taste of the matcha if it's not made properly or the ingredients are cheap. This one tasted great! The only thing I wasn't impressed on was the boba. Some of the boba were clumped together, and several of the pieces were too chewy. This would've been okay, except it made it harder for the liquid to pass through the straw because the clumped boba blocked the airway passage through the straw, which made it harder to drink it. Ambiance: 3 out of 5 Located in the beautifully landscaped Quail Hill Plaza, this place is small, but clean. It can easily be missed because they're located on the right hand side upon entrance onto Passage Way. Ample parking available.
