I've been going to Taylor's Bakery for years. This was my first time ordering from the Indianapolis location as they said I had to do my consultation there for a wedding cake. I had provided inspiration pictures via email of the look that I wanted. We discussed options, and I agreed on doing one small single tier decorated cake and a large sheet cake, all with white cake and raspberry filling. The price was great for wedding cake. I agreed on the large scored sheet cake with rosettes on each piece, in my wedding colors. I also agreed on adding a few flowers to the decorated cake to match the sheet cake. I specified that I wanted an elegant version of white birch (like the pictures I provided), with some gold foil and leaves on the side. I paid for the order that day and then I emailed another image with examples of our wedding colors, as requested. No confirmation of the email was received. Fast forward, I decided to change the cake to half chocolate to satisfy the chocolate lovers that would be attending. I had been in touch with Heather through email. So I first emailed several weeks in advance requesting the change. I did not receive a response. So I called the bakery 5 days before to request the change. The employee that answered, could not find my order and said that someone would call me back. No one called back that day. So I emailed and then called again 2 days later. Again, the employee could not find my order. I had a dentist appointment near the Fishers location that afternoon, so I decided to stop by that location and talk to the manager. That manager contacted the Indianapolis location, and then Heather finally called me back, explained that they had a small fire recently and that was the reason for the delay in communication, and assured me that my order was there, and everything was fine. She gave me her number to contact and I confirmed with her that I would like to change the sheet cake to half chocolate. On the day of the wedding, my step father and brother in law picked up the cakes for me. I did not end up seeing the cakes until the reception was happening. My bridesmaid mentioned the cake, so I got up to go look at it and was very disappointed. It was not decorated like I wanted. The birch did not look elegant at all, the colors were awful, the purple flowers looked brownish, the entire top was just covered in flowers, there was no gold foil.. it did not look at all like I expected or imagined. I still probably would not have even complained if they didn't also provide me with an entirely chocolate sheet cake. The entire extra large cake to serve all of my guests was all chocolate. I don't even like chocolate cake, so I was pretty upset as the point was for my guests to have a choice. I ended up giving the leftover cake away. Before writing this review, I first text Heather to let her know what happened, and that I was disappointed. She said she would get back to me in a few days when she was back to work. My neighbors are getting married this weekend, and I got it into my head that I needed to gift them petits fours with hearts on them. I don't know where I got this idea, but it seemed like the perfect casual wedding gift to receive from a neighbor. And once I got it into my head, I was determined to make it happen! My search for these mini cakes led me to Taylor's Bakery. They have a selection of petits fours available in their bakery case (Easter themed right now). I ordered my desserts online to be picked up the next day, because I wanted hearts. The petits fours are 2 inches by 2 inches, which is much larger than I thought they would be. I was thinking they'd be bite-sized, but they're more like three or four bites. When I showed up to pick up my order, they didn't have them ready, and I think they had lost my order, but they quickly added hearts to some blank petits fours. All of their petits fours are the same almond-scented white cake with a thin coconut icing. I was hoping they'd have a filling or something in them (a layer of jam would have been nice!), but no, they're just cake and icing. I got a flower-decorated petits four for myself to eat in my car as I drove home (aka the best way to eat anything), and it was so soft and melted in my mouth. It was the kind of cake that didn't even require chewing. Yum! They are known for their cakes here, and I can see why. They also have a big selection of other baked goods, like bars (raspberry and lemon), brownies, donuts, Danishes, cupcakes, cinnamon rolls and lots more. I picked up two cute Easter cookies for my kids, which were decorated with blue icing and jelly bean eggs. Taylor's Bakery has been an Indianapolis institution for 112 years! Which means you need to visit this bakery at least once. While I was there, I saw several people come in and order all kinds of goodies. They had a steady stream of customers. Taylor's Bakery is a true staple in Indy, and I've loved this place since I was a child. We typically get our birthday cakes from here because, "It has to be from Taylor's." The cakes are always delicious, and the service is consistently on point and the staff is sooo nice and welcoming. However, I've had a couple of experiences recently that have been a bit frustrating. On the past two occasions I've gone to order a cake, the order has been wrong when I've gone to pick it up. I think the communication between the person taking the order and the pastry chef could be improved, as I know a couple other people who have gone through the same thing. It's a bit of a letdown, especially when you're expecting a 5 minute pick up order that turns into 20 because they have to redo your order the way it should have been. That said, I'm hopeful they can address this issue, because aside from this hiccup, I have no other complaints! read more

Taylor's has been in our neighborhood for years. The minute you walk in the door, if not a line, you are welcomed and they are ready to take your order. My favorite is angel food cake and iced sugar cookies. Although I would never complain, some of the bakery items are too sweet for me. One good thing is they often have samples out for you to try That way, you can decide for yourself on the sweetness. It is always clean, cases show no finger prints and the waitstaff always looks fresh and ready to serve. Would I go there again? I live out of state & ordered my nephew's graduation cake from Taylor's Bakery. Friday afternoon I called to see if the cake was ready for pickup, I said "Hi my name is (blank, blank), I was calling to see if the cake was ready for pickup. The woman who answered the phone responded with "How would I know?! " So I asked if she could check, repeating my name. The call was on speakerphone and my large family (who live in Indianapolis) heard her. This was our first time ordering from Taylor's Bakery and were really shocked by the snarky disrespect. But since we were picking up food from you, we opted to not say anything at the time. What happened to Taylor's Bakery? I used to love this place, ordered from here literally for every family gathering. I pre-ordered days ago for pickup a sheet cake, cookie, and Mothers Day cookie box for pickup at 1pm. At 2pm swung by to pickup. Waited 45+ minutes in line only to be told at 3pm my order wasn't ready. Maybe another hour or so they were not sure. I asked if I could just pickup whatever was ready...nothing. Not even 1 chocolate chip cookie. No part of my order was ready, including the Mothers Day box they advertised. How can you accept pre-orders with pickup times and have nothing two hours after the scheduled pickup time?! Or, if such a mess, contact people to let them know. You expect your cakes to be ready for your celebration, so it's disappointing that you can no longer count on Taylor's. read more

I guess I just don't understand the draw. The baked goods were dry and seemed day old to me. Service was great and the people working were very sweet! I liked that they tied the box with string. I stopped by their location on Allisonville Rd Saturday and left because they had very little product available. I then stopped by today and was surprised to find that about half their cases were empty and there was very little in the racks behind the counter. I spoke with one of the associates and was informed that the new business model includes less product in store in order to reduce spoilage. She suggests placing an order before coming in. Since the new owners took over I've seen prices rise (but of course they are everywhere) and less cakes, donuts, breads, etc.. available. They were a destination shop for us but now I doubt we'll be going out of my way to head over only to be confronted with empty shelves. There are other alternatives and we'll need to adjust. I have had baked goods from Taylor's and they have always been good but today was the first day that I went to their store. A Friday afternoon so there were other customers but it wasn't so busy that I felt rushed. The lady at the counter was friendly and pleasant with me. I ordered donuts and danish and a couple eclairs. This is definitely a solid place to go for baked goods and should be the season for them to have key lime pies. I didn't see them in the case but have had them before and they are delicious. In, 2005, my dear late mother-in-law, said the ONLY place she would buy my husband and my wedding came from was Taylor's. I still remember stopping by in 2015, with my then fiancè for a wedding cake sample. The owner served us different varieties of delicious and most samples. After finally deciding on a cake, I mentioned how I do not like angel food cake as we were looking at their display case. The owner, with confidence, said "you will love ours. Here, take this home." He gave me a free loaf of angel food cake. Guess what? It was indeed the best I ever had. Stop by Taylor's Bakery. I have been buying treats from Taylor's for over 15 years. You are greeted as soon as you walk in the door. Even if there's a line, you will get waited on quickly. I find this place very nostalgic. From baked goods to ice cream you can get your sweet tooth taken care of. I always get their seasonal decorated cookies. I do seem to think that the icing recipe has changed. It's not as creamy and soft as it used to be. The last couple of times I've got cookies the icing seemed hard and without as much flavor. Their cakes are delicious! I enjoy what they have to offer but other places are offering the same and at cheaper prices. I liked their red velvet donuts and they don't have them on a regular. I liked the key lime pretzels but they don't have them anymore. They have ice cream, which is over priced, and they now have pot pies. I love supporting locally own businesses, and this bakery has a long history in Indy and another location in Fishers. I like to get a dozen donuts to take to work, and they have boxes already made up which makes it very quick and easy. They have a nice display of donuts, cakes, breads, cookies and other sweet treats. I want to order a birthday cake at some point. Staff has always been nice, and the donuts are always fresh and delicious. I love the Indy location, and it is one of my favorite places to stop. I am a long time customer. As I was standing (first) in line, another customer was going out with her arms full of bags and boxes, so I stepped out of line to open the door for her because the man in line behind me obviously wasn't going to help. After I opened the door for her and got back in line, the older sales clerk (she's been there for many years) talked to the man behind me and assumed that he was next and implied that I had cut in front of him in line. She still seemed to question me after I said that I was next. The man did not disagree with me. Another clerk became available and he went to her. I explained to the older clerk that I had opened the door for the lady with her arms full and she thanked me for doing that but failed to apologize for embarrassing me. I worked in retail for several years and the appropriate way to handle this is to let the customers decide who is next - she should know that.
