Oh wow... this place is gorgeous Thanks to Too Good To Go, I finally stopped by Flying Cupcakes and not only picked up some cupcakes (which were delicious), but also got to really check out the space. It's beautiful, like the kind of place that instantly puts you in a good mood. The staff working while I was there? Absolutely the nicest. I normally visit either the Mass Ave or Castleton locations but was in the area so I decided to drop in. I didn't realize how large and pretty this location is. Lots of seating area, lots of decor, larger selection of desserts and a lot more merchandise too. Unfortunately, the cupcakes I purchased weren't as fresh tasting and moist as the other two locations are always on point. I got the chocolate, which was probably the most driest out of my bunch, the caramel apple was good enough and the wedding almond cake one was moist but not as I'm used to. Decided to shop local for some cupcakes and try out something new. There are so many options, majority chocolate, which is hard because the person I was buying for does not eat chocolate. I asked what the most popular option was, and they said red velvet, which is chocolate. Then they said the birthday cupcake, which is vanilla. I ended up getting it to try it, and then I saw strawberry shortcake and ended up taking that along with a red velvet for someone. The, birthday cake, cupcake I ended up eating and it was what I expected, not much. I wish I would've gotten the lemon but wasn't sure how tart that would be and played it too safe. The red velvet was liked and the strawberry shortcake was pleasantly. not as sweet as I expected. It ended up being the birthday cupcake. The lady even put happy birthday tippers on them which was a nice surprise. I had put the cupcakes in the fridge because I didn't want them to get too warm, and I think That ruined the flavor of the icing. It was hard and just meh. I purchased six jumbo cupcakes at the Carmel location on 05.13.25 for a birthday celebration on 5/14/25. They were transported home and then to work without any issues. When I opened the box, the attached photo shows what the Here Comes the Bride cupcake looked like, while the other five varieties were intact. This was particularly disappointing as it was requested by the Birthday Girl. That HCTB batch must have had issues because all the ones in the case reminded me more of muffins than cupcakes, but I *assumed* they had passed quality control as they were for sale. The Birthday Girl took it well, but again, I was disappointed (and embarrassed). I sent an email to the bakery on 5/14 with no response and again on 5/27 - no response received as of today. All the Flying Cupcake locations are fun and unique. This one is right near the heart of Carmel. It offers unique and fun merch in addition to, of course, delicious cupcakes. I stopped in with my sons for one of their birthdays. We all enjoyed our cupcakes and the person working the counter was friendly and helpful. The one star I've docked is for a lack of indoor seating. There were only two tables despite this being one of the largest Flying Cupcakes I've been in. I think some of the merch areas could be turned into seating for those who would like to stay and enjoy their treats. Other than that, everything here is top-notch. read more

I found a vegan chocolate cupcake that tasted delicious. 10/10 would get it again. However, like most of the reviews the service was underwhelming. The person working had headphones in and was clearly taking a personal call. All of my questions were answered with a very annoyed tone, after telling the person on the other end of the call to hang on. It definitely impacts the experience and makes me want to find a different place with a better customer service, because it's important for the overall experience. I hadn't had Flying Cupcake in quite awhile and this location just happened to be by where I was eating dinner. My companion and I went into an empty shop a little before 7 on a Friday. We surveyed the flavors as he had never been. We felt a little rushed and were even asked "Do you guys have an idea of what you want?" So we explained we were looking since he had never been. At one point he went to look in the other case and was told right away"oh those are gluten free". We chose 3 cupcakes and it was $18 plus you are instructed for a tip. The Big Deborah was pretty good but super crumbly so I figured it had been there since Christmas. As a matter of fact by the next day, none of them were fresh at all. I am new to Indy so I asked a friend where best to order from. I ordered a six-inch layered cake for my sister's birthday to be picked-up a few days later. I ordered by phone and the staff member was super helpful and said yes to my small requests - flavor, cake message and sprinkle choice. The cake was ready for pick-up when I needed it. Later that night we tried it and IT WAS DELICIOUS. So so good. Their Red Velvet Elvis was awesome and I typically am not a red velvet fan. And the decor was spot on. I just went yesterday to pick up some cupcakes and their cinnamon toast vegan cupcakes are delicious! They taste like cinnamon toast! I also got some of their normal (not vegan) cupcakes and the snickerdoodle and butterbeer ones were good as well. I was pleasantly surprised by how serious they are in making the walk in experience safe. They have tables blocking you from going right up to the cupcake case (you can still see all of them) so that way both you and the employee working there maintain 6 ft. In addition, for paying and receiving the cupcakes, this 6ft distance is still maintained. The employee put the cupcakes boxes in a bin and used one of those grabber things you can use to get stuff just out of reach to push the bin within my reach so he could stay 6ft away. Despite it all, I still got excellent service. He even asked if I had a preferred house for the butter beer cupcake (they have the Harry Potter houses on the top) read more

We decided to stop by Flying Cupcake for a dessert after dinner but before attending a show nearby. Since we were in later in the evening, it was not surprising the options were limited. I was excited to see there were at least two gluten free options, vanilla and strawberry, still available. I chose the strawberry and it was ok. I've have better gluten free cupcakes, even from some of the other Flying Cupcake locations. It was a bit dry and perhaps that was due to being late in the evening or maybe just this particular batch. I viewed The Flying Cupcake Instagram story this morning and I couldn't stop thinking about all of the beautiful treats! I bought an iced sugar cookie which is one of my favorite treats and I have never tried a cookie from here before. The cookie was really good! It was firm, but not crunchy. The cookie had a good flavor and texture. The icing was delicious and not over iced. I also bought a cherry cheesecake cupcake. In the fall I bought a pumpkin goat cheese cupcake, so I was hoping this would have some similarities to it. This cherry cheesecake cupcake was good. It had more of an eggy flavor than I expected, but I really enjoyed it! I didn't get a traditional cupcake today. I like their cupcakes, but find them to be too much for me! A lot of icing and sweetness! They have a rewards program, but you don't get much bang for your buck on this. I earned 9 points for this order (I spent $9). You can earn one jumbo cupcake for 100 points (or spending $100) or $10!off when you get 175 points (or spend $175). read more

First off, the woman who helped me during my visit was very friendly and attentive in helping me order and purchase a cupcake! Second, the atmosphere seems fun and cute with its vintage appeal, however, I have never seen anyone dining in at this location or the downtown location. The shop had a dreary feel to it since it's such a big, well decorated space but no people there to give it life of excitement. It just seemed a little dull and too quiet to me - especially if you're looking for a fun place to celebrate with dessert I would keep that in mind. Thirdly, I ordered the Chocolate Peanut Butter cupcake and I enjoyed it and loved the whipped peanut butter icing on top, but the cake was a little dry and nothing amazing. I have tried their Guinness and Bailey's flavored cupcake and I loved it, overall it was great! But they change up their flavor selection everyday so I wasn't able to order it this past visit. For years, I was a huge fan of the Flying Cupcake. It was my go to for all birthdays and celebrations. Many times I would stop in while out running errands just to treat myself. I stopped going a couple years ago after having a bad experience with a large order of cupcakes that were not fresh. I thought I would give them another try Thursday. I bought 4 different kinds - 3 chocolate cake based and one vanilla cake. All 3 chocolate cakes were stale and tasted old. The icing was hard but still had good flavor. The vanilla "Here Comes The Bride" was a little better but still not fresh. Very disappointing - I was so badly hoping they would be back to their original great quality and taste. read more

I think I found the key to enjoying a cupcake from The Flying Cupcake. It consists of two easy steps: 1. Order a cupcake with vanilla buttercream frosting. (That shiz is amazing. The cupcake itself? Meh -- it's alright. The cake is a little dry, to be perfectly honest. But this nit-picky detail can be combatted with vanilla buttercream frosting. Which is why it's the first step in the list.) 2. Jam your index finger into the middle of the cupcake, pull it out and lick off the frosting-and-cake goodness. Continue this maneuver until you have lots of index-finger holes in your cupcake. You want the frosting to be well distributed and incorporated into the cupcake. Your cupcake should look like a mess of cake chunks and frosting blobs. At this point, the cupcake is primed for eating. Enjoy! At least, this is the way I enjoy my cupcakes from The Flying Cupcake. I've eaten them other ways and haven't enjoyed them quite as much, so I'll be sticking to my tried-and-true procedure, despite looking like a 4-year-old with food issues. Your milage may vary. Last time I was in this shop, I got the Twilight cupcake, which is a swirled white and chocolate cupcake with half chocolate buttercream and half vanilla buttercream frosting. Vanilla buttercream beats chocolate buttercream hands down -- there's no question. Next time I'll just get a cupcake with all vanilla buttercream frosting like I specified in my steps above. I don't think The Flying Cupcake handles chocolate frosting well (not just chocolate buttercream, but chocolate ganache, as well). The chocolate here is cloying and too sweet, whereas the vanilla is pure and clean and tastes like eating a sweet cloud. The bakery itself is cute and charming. There are lots of sweet things for sale here, not just cupcakes, including candy and dessert paraphernalia. There are lots of tables and chairs inside to sit and enjoy your dessert. read more

You can't go wrong with a cupcake! Yesterday was my first visit. I stopped into the Carmel location. The store is sizable with seating and a little bit of shopping for things like candy, cards, and small gifts such as socks, aprons, etc. And, of course, there's cupcakes! We ordered 4 to go and have eaten a couple of them so far and they are delicious! I think the only thing I would approve upon is a little more variety in their selection; however, they may rotate flavors daily and I'm just not aware.
