I've never had Laos food before and was so satisfied with everything. All the food had so much flavor. The thom khem pork belly dish was my favorite. If you've heard about it, you've heard right - Taurus Ox has far and away the best burger in Seattle. It's definitely on the unique side which I think adds to its specialness. I've tried a number of their other mains, and they are all great, but the burger is what gives this place a 5 for me. We came here on a Friday night at 7pm and there was only a wait for ~10 minutes for a group of 3. Dishes ordered: -papaya salad -thom khem -lao sausage -phad lao All of these dishes except papaya salad were very flavorful and delicious. I was disappointed by the portion sizes though. For example, the papaya salad was 9$ but was served in a tiny bowl which could be shared with 2 people at maximum. Been meaning to try this place out and it didn't disappoint! I ordered the Lao burger and it was super juicy, flavorful, and filling. I honestly didn't really remember the description so I had no idea what some of the stuff on it was but it all went very well together and I thought the cilantro gave it a nice extra something that set it apart. It was also a pretty good size and I was sufficiently full after finishing it. Only issue I had was that the bun was kind of soggy which made it get really messy. My friends ordered the Thom Khem and the Phad Lao which they both liked as well! We came on a Saturday night and joined the waitlist at 7:15 with an estimated wait of 30 min-1:15hrs. There were 12 parties ahead of us but we got seated at around 7:45. Their seating system was a bit odd as there was a big table that was cleared at around 7:20 and they didn't seat anyone there. Because not one single restaurant in Seattle serves this noodle soup! If they do have it on their menu, it's not the Northern Laos style! All the spots that served, "khao soi" was curry based - completely different from what Ive had. Then i found Taurus Ox! I had to come check it out! We showed up Saturday morning, right when they opened up at 11am. We walked in and noticed how cute this place was, even their restroom was super nice! We grabbed a menu while waiting in line to order at the counter. After perusing both sides, we decided on a few things, paid and found us a table. First came our Khao Soi! I looked down and noticed how beautiful the colors were. Next was the flavor of the broth, it tasted exactly like how I remembered it. The noodles were cooked perfectly, not too soft nor too hard. While I was noticing it wasnt very spicy, before I can even finish that thought, 1 of the owners popped over and offered us some chili powder, in case we wanted more kick. Somehow, he read my mind! The khao soi was so good, I actually ordered a bowl to-go for the next day! No joke! Then the papaya salad and sticky rice was brought out. We ordered SPICY papaya salad and at first, it didn't look very spicy but after taking a few bites, we can definitely feel the fire. Flavor of the papaya was on point! Not too salty nor sweet. So happy that they've moved to a larger location from the original Madison street spot! Street parking hasn't been too difficult for us to find each time we've come. Inside has some nice decor, booths and table options. They're very accommodating for kids and although there isn't a kids menu they have been pretty okay with making adjustments. IYKYK, the burger here is my favorite thing to get! Taro chips are a perfect companion. We've also gotten the Lao beef jerky and papaya salad which are delicious, punchy flavors. The only thing I would probably not get again was the phad lao. The flavors were kind of confusing and I just didn't enjoy it at all. The drink menu looks good too but we haven't tried those out yet! I never went to Taurus Ox at their old location so I was happy to make it out to their new one. The parking is street parking only, but there was a decent amount even at 6 pm on a Saturday. The space is good for groups of 4 or less for walk-in, larger groups can make reservations. Service was great too. We ordered the beef jerky and papaya salad appetizers, nam khao special, and phad lao and thom kem mains. My favorite dish of the night was easily the nam khao, the rice was very crispy and I loved using the lettuce for the wraps. We ended up asking for more lettuce when we ran out. The beef jerky and papaya salad were both a bit salty, but the flavors were great. I especially enjoyed the jaew tomato sauce with the beef jerky. It worked with other dishes as well. The thom khem was great, the pork belly was well cooked. The phad lao was good but felt kind of basic. I liked going to a Laotian restaurant back home in Atlanta, so when I saw this one while I was visiting, I knew I had to check it out. All the tables were taken when we showed up around 7 PM, so we squeezed in at the bar. It was pretty neat to be close to the kitchen and see the food getting prepared. FOOD: 4.5/5 I only got the pork belly rice dish. I personally like to eat a lot so the portion size was fair but wish I had more. God, this place is so fucking good. Taurus Ox is one of the best restaurants I've recently ate at, as the food is so freaking delicious. Now I wanna go to Capitol Hill, just to eat at Taurus Ox. My partner and I came here for dinner one day, as I had Taurus Ox bookmarked since it opened, which was awhile ago! But since I hardly ever go to Seattle because yes, I am one of those Bellevue people and two, since I work from home, there's not much need for me to trek west. However, this was a nice change of pace, and has me wishing Taurus Ox be closer to me. But maybe that's for the best because I would eat here everyday if I could. We visited on a Thursday night and the place wasn't busy when I arrived, fortunately, since the space is very small. There were only a few tables for dine-in and soon after we arrived, the place quickly filled. And no, they don't take reservations. Once they check your vax card, you can pick a table and either order through the QR code from your table or order at the counter. Sheesh, we wanted to try everything! We ordered the beef laap, the thom khem, the Lao sausage and the burger...with a Beer Lao, duh. Even though it was way more food than the two of us could handle, I truly could not stop eating. SO, SO, SO good. The beef laap is similar to larb, in that it was ground meat with lettuce wraps. It sounds simple, but the flavor was outstanding, as it was very fragrant and LOVED how much lemongrass flavor there was with. I recommend trying if you like larb. The Lao sausage was also very good, and way more filling than we expected. When the employee checked in with us, he mentioned that the sausage was one of his favorite items and that it was eight ounces. Holy moly! The housemade sausage was not only hefty, but very tasty, with a hint of spice to it. The thom khem was a heartier dish, with pork belly and egg in a gravy sauce with jasmine rice. This was the most popular dish that was ordered when we visited and I can easily see why. It had everything you'd want in a dish - tender meat, comforting gravy, rice to soak up the gravy and egg because protein is king. But my favorite item was the freaking burger. UGH. How do they do it? This burger was comprised of two, smashed burger patties with pork jowl, pickled red onion, melted provolone, taro stem and a spicy mayo, between a toasted bun, soft enough to bite into. I sadly had to share this item, but didn't want to. It's that good. Honestly, I'd order this baby anytime I'm in the area for takeout and would save it for later, if I couldn't immediately enjoy it. THE PLACE IS SMALL YALL. Maybe 6 counter seats, 1 table that will seat 4 (or two tables of 2), a larger table that may seat 6, and then another far off table for 2. So be aware if you're dining in. You can order at your table but considering the fact that I was a Laotian virgin I wanted some guidance. "Champaign" gave me the insider scoop on what I should order and he was super kind. I went with the curry (not that impressed but it was worth the try), the burger (super yummy, but way messy. I like a neat burger), and the sausage (the sausage with the kinda spicy sauce with the rice was absolutely phenomenal). The sausage reminds me of the most flavorful, tender piece of boudin I've ever had. I also had the lemongrass limeade. That was a HARD NO for me. It was suuuuuuper lime-y. It's not that often we get to try Laotian food, it's unique and quite frankly rare. Flew into Seattle this morning and after settling in we were hungry for lunch. We found Taurus Ox a shot distance away, and the other party not being too adventurous I was surprised that they wanted to try Laotian food. We didn't know what to order but noticed a lot of pics of Thom Khem so we tried that along with the papaya salad, thinking that it was familiar. Fortunately we were wrong! The papaya stood out for us because we could taste individual ingredients with an intentional spice that kept my eating partner going back for more despite not being a spicy food person. It tasted fresh, along with the peanuts for a textural contrast, along with the crunch of the papaya and the tart of the dressing. Then came the Thom Khem. One taste and you just didn't want more, we both dove in and couldn't shovel it into our faces fast enough! The pork belly was oh so tender, you could have slurped it down! What also got us was the Brussels Sprouts hash, crispy, earthy, tender and piled as a patty on top of our jasmine rice. You didn't want to take a bite of rice without the Sprouts hash and-by-the-way the gravy and pork belly made such a satisfying bite! My only complaint was that the pork belly wasn't big enough, it shoulda been steak-sized I wanted every bite to be a big morsel of pork goodness. We would have licked the plate they served Thom Khem on if we were at home instead of in the public eye. For dessert we ordered the mango coconut rice pudding and the apple pear- ginger sorbet. Dessert didn't top dinner but it was a nice tie. The warm rice pudding had a moderate hint of coconut but just enough to let the fresh mango shine through. Accompanying it was a wild rice puff, little bits of neutrality that was a nice touch, adding a crispy component to the warm dessert. The sorbet was tasty, too, with aggressive ginger notes to let you know it's there without dominating the delicate-ness of a sorbet. My favorite was the Lao burger since it had a such a unique flavor because of the jaew bong mayo (which is a mayo with a hodge podge of garlic, lemongrass, chilies and other spices) and cilantro! I think my favorite part of this dish was the brussel sprout hash though. If you don't like brussel sprouts you will after trying this! This hash had a mix of shredded Brussels and they used rice flour or sweet rice flour binding agent to keep the hash together which gave it this chewy but crispy texture. It's a bit slow to get in but the food is good. Parking wasn't hard for us on a Friday night (street parking). Papaya salad was good and funky. Lao sausage was tasty & the Thom khem was the star of the show. The khao poon noodle soup is a skip honestly, the broth wasn't particularly flavorful (nor the eggs) & it was very oily. Service was chaotic, multiple staff would came over to take our order and would ask the same questions 2 mins after someone else already did. read more

I honestly don't remember the last time I gave 5 stars to a restaurant in Seattle. The food scene in Seattle post Covid has been lack lustre but Taurus Ox has changed my perception. The pork belly was tender and delicious. The accompanying hot sauce was so spicy I was sweating! I happily purchased a bottle of the house made hot sauce afterwards - was surprised to find a bottle was only $6! Our server was super patient with our big group of 12.
