    Lao Burger

Taurus Ox did not disappoint! I felt all the dishes and drinks we ordered were executed well and tasted as expected. I get why they are known for their Lao Burger. It was delicious and perfectly cooked with balanced and harmonious flavors waking up my tastebuds. That goes the same for the amazing flavors and generous portion-size of their Thom Khem dish which is Caramelized Pork Belly and Tamari-Cured Hard-boiled Egg Stewed with ginger, garlic, and warming spices. As if that's not enough, it is served along with a brussel hash brown, pickled fresno chili, atop jasmine rice. For the drinks my party ordered, I recommend the refreshing Tamarind Soda which instantly transported me to the famously humid tropical weather of Southeast Asia. The two shareable appetizers we ordered were perfect for 4 people and was a nice introduction to the main dishes we ordered. The Lao Beef Jerky and Nam Khao were tasty and delightful bites. Street parking available. The restaurant is clean with lovely decor, indoor and patio seating. It has a warm and welcoming ambiance. Their pricing is not exactly budget-friendly, but with the generous portions, quality ingredients, and friendly service I think their pricing is just right.

Laotian, neighborhood restaurant with lots of free street parking nearby. We came around 7 pm on a Tuesday, and it was busy but we were seated and met our waiter promptly. My partner and I shared the two vegan options on the menu (a curry and a noodle dish and added tofu to both.) My partner was *obsessed.* He thought the food was absolutely outstanding. I thought they were very good but I'm just generally not a huge curry fan. Pricing was reasonable for the quality of food but it wasn't a super large portion. They had hard cider in a can (none on tap.) very warm and romantic inside. Would definitely come back!

Have been meaning to try this place for awhile! Came in on a weekday evening for dinner (around 6:15?) and we got a table right away. Interior is dark and woody? Lots of ox decor haha. Kinda funny though because it doesn't immediately feel like southeast Asian? Maybe a mix of western and Asian Service is a littttle slow, but the food and everything came out fast. I ordered the lemongrass limeade soda, the Lao burger, and mango sticky rice. The soda was super refreshing, and wasn't too sweet. The Lao burger was super yummy and juicy. I liked the sauce and veggies, but I wish they had added more. The patties were also a tad too salty in some spots. I also tried the Lao sausage entree which comes with rice and sides of veggies. The sausage and sauce were really flavorful, but the veggies didn't really pair well with it. The menu also says you get a choice of rice and sauce, but the server never asked what we wanted. Mango sticky rice was pretty good. I liked that it came warm, but the coconut sauce was a bit too sweet for me. Overall, a pretty good spot! I'd definitely come back to try the other dishes. I'd also come early in the evening, because a line formed pretty quickly.

Lao soul food! Delicious food made with love. Great, unique cocktails and drinks too. House made sodas like tamarind, lemongrass limeade, & galangal! Lunch bowls available from 11am-2pm.

Visited son in Seattle and he took us for some Laotian cuisine. Now I don't recall having Laotian cuisine so it was a great experience. I left it to the young ones to order and they selected all the famous must haves from the limited selection menu. I do not know what they ordered but I enjoyed the food. The playing was beautiful and all the dishes had great flavor and texture. The only dish I didn't care for was the one I picked.... Thom Khem, the caramelized pork belly. It was just too common and did not wow me. The service was attentive and the restaurant was nicely decorated and cozy. A bit dark but the ambiance was inviting. A place I think everyone should try if in town. Just remember to make a reservation.

We got the lao burger, Nam kao and a side of their sausage. Lao burger -- was sooo good. It had a thin patty with crispy edges from it being smashed. There was cured pork belly which gave it that "bacon" aspect of a burger. This was a thicker cut of "bacon" but it went well with the beef. Think ham? The pickled red onions on the burger were refreshing and it cut the greasiness of the burger. Sauce was there but never overpowered, it added to all the flavors of the protein. Highly recommend and would come back for this. Nam khao -- surprisingly very addicting. All of the flavors went well together. At first I thought there wasn't much flavor but you just have to mix everything and give it a squeeze of lime. All of the components went well together. Get a little bit of the meats, the peanuts, the chilis, the crispy rice and wrap it up. The perfect bite. It's so easy and refreshing to eat that you want to keep on eating. I love the crispy aspect of this. Sausage -- so flavorful. You can really taste the lemongrass but you can get a hint of everything. I would say the sauce is a little bit salty but I just didn't dip much. It had a nice chew but it's not like a crunchy sausage. I liked eating it with a side of the lettuce. Service overall was great. We got checked on a few times. Server was nice and recommended us some dishes since we were indecisive. We didn't catch them during a busy period so we didn't have to wait. We went evening time during the weekday. Ambiance was nice but I think the chairs weren't that comfortable after sitting for some time. It was also cold bc the door was open. That is probably bc of the day we went. Decor is nice and very homey. It's situation in a more neighborhood area so that was the vibe. Plenty of neighborhood parking. TDLR; food was good, would come back for the burger and Nam khao if I wanted something refreshing. Seating was uncomfortable. Cold restaurant. Friendly staff. Plenty of parking. Overall, wouldn't go out of my way for it but maybe if I'm craving a burger and in the area.

Taurus Ox is a decorated modern Laotian eatery known for having one of the best burgers in all of Seattle! To get here, there is street parking directly in front of the restaurant and all around the area. Reservations are highly recommended here, so plan accordingly. Inside, they have a spacious setup with a lot of seating. Wifey and I stopped by for dinner with our homies and got a spread consisting of the Chicken Wings, Lao Sausage, Lao Burger, and the Yellow Gaeng. Everything that we had was great and all of the staff here are very friendly and welcoming. Book your next reservation here and you will not regret it!

This was an amazing restaurant! I came here with some friends that had been here several times before and highly recommended it. This is a cute Laotian restaurant with some interesting options that I hadn't seen before (granted I hadn't been to a Laotian restaurant before this). We ordered the Nam Khao to share and I ordered the Phad Lao. My favorite was the Nam Khao. The rice was crispy and had a nice lime flavor. The restaurant was also pretty accommodating for dietary restrictions. They were happy to replace the pork skin with tofu in the Nam Khao for my Muslim friend. The portions were also huge-I had plenty of leftovers to take home.

Cute place with a cool name on a great street! Taurus Ox is delicious and healthy. Parking is on the street and the restaurant is popular. The service was good and the portions were quite good. I loved my lunch!

Everything here was SO good!! I was hesitant at first to come here since I've grown up eating khmer food and thought it would just be okay compared to what I've had or too similar. I wish I came sooner. It was like my cultural food, but elevated. Nam khao was the big hit, I love the texture and we fought over who could get the leftovers for this. Thom Khem was good, I liked the brussel hash, it wasn't as amazing as people made it out to be, the main was definitely the best with a great sauce. Wish they offered sticky rice with this an alt to the jasmine. The sausage entree was just okay to me, but still not bad. The ube roll with ice cream was perfect sweet treat after dinner. Fluffy and gooey in the middle. Definitely want to come back to try more of their food and to get more nam khao!

Yummy food! We got the thom Khem, Chicken Laap, Lao sausage entree, mango sticky rice, and a drink. All the food was flavorful and delicious. I recommend family style with a group so you can try different things! Service was a bit slow. I feel kinda bad because our server had such a huge section by themselves and they were always talking / serving with customers, so maybe it was an off night with less staff?

Taurus Ox has been on my list for quite some time. It's a bit out of the way being tucked on the outskirts of Cap Hill but I highly recommend Ox Burger, their spinoff store for the popular lao burger which is in a more convenient location closer to the heart of Cap Hill. I think what sets Taurus Ox apart is the ambiance and service. We were wonderfully greeted and staff took the time to explain the menu while offering recommendations based on our preferences. Lao Sausage Entree - tasty, fatty pork sausage with a mix of seasonings, spices, and aromatics. Quite a few flavors going on including spiciness, saltiness, and savoriness. The rest of the dish is simple with the rice and vegetables, but those clean ingredients balance out the fatty pork. Portion and as a result, value, is a bit underwhleming though. Phad Lao - love my pad thai as a comforting dish. While tasty, the dish isn't anything spectacular as it's very similar to other stir fried noodle dishes. Solid portion though, great for sharing in groups to help supplement other dishes. Lao Burger - this has been and likely will always be the star of the show. Everyone recommends the burger and I can see why. They offered to cut our burger into three for us which was kind. The bun is soft and slightly sweet, like the Hawaiian rolls. Inside are two smashed, juicy, tender patties accompanied by a plethora of contrasting flavors that enhance one another. The fatty pork belly, sharp milky cheese, pickled vegetables, and creamy, spicy, yet sweet mayo blend make up for an explosion of flavors.

Yes, you need to try the Lao burger!! It's on multiple top lists for a reason! Everything was so flavorful!! Meat seasoned so well, crisp edges, cheese and sauce that just make everything melt in your mouth. Absolutely scrumptious!! The Nam Khao was yummy too! It has such a unique mix of flavors; crunchy rice, tangy, savory pork skin, crunchy peanuts, and a fresh crisp of lettuce! Just so good!!! I just wish they gave us bigger pieces of lettuce. The pieces were small so it made it difficult to make a wrap. The place is tastefully decorated with Laos culture, we enjoyed sitting in the back booths, although it was a bit darker than the front. Service was good and had a great experience. We will be coming back for sure, as I am still thinking of that burger!

Yes. The cuisine is naturally free of much gluten. Let your server know so the kitchen staff can use separate equipment accordingly

Are there any options for kids?

    Do you use MSG?

    Sparingly, but yes

Is Khao Piak Sen on the menu still?

    No it’s not

Are there any non-pork (pig product) options?

Plenty; the phad lao has the option of chicken, shrimp, tofu. Laap is sans pork, as is the gang nor mai (bamboo stew). The soop pak, a salad of mushrooms, blanched yu choy, ginger and sesame is vegan. Beef jerky, rice and jeaw varietals are all pork…

For it being less than half an hour before closing, it was packed inside, with two sections of seating for various group sizes, and a casually loud interior with a counter full of water jugs and glass cups in front of a nice plant backdrop with the name of this place in lights. Menu serves a ton of Asian fusion dishes along with some regular entrees and a ton of cocktails and wine. From my sis's recommendation when she went, I got myself the banh mi smash burger after deciding between that and the Pho-rench dip my brother-in-law had. My friend got himself the La Vong fish sandwich, which I didn't get to try though we both did split an order of honey sriracha Brussel sprouts. - For the banh mi smash burger, think of ALL the essential ingredients of a standard banh mi sandwich; then put in a regular beef patty, throw in lemongrass beef as the other meat and add provolone cheese as a complement to the pate-mayo spread. That's what this is in a nutshell, and it tastes exactly like a banh mi sandwich as a result, only in burger form. This was an absolute hit and win for me; beef patty was juicy, condiments were fresh, lemongrass beef was equally as juicy, and the side of fries made this a very filling dish! - I normally don't like Brussel sprouts because of their similar taste profile to asparagus, but I ate a ton of the honey sriracha Brussel sprouts from here. It's sweet and tangy, both of which mask the oddly earthy and bitter tones of regular Brussel sprouts. They're also roasted which further gets rid of that bitter taste I don't enjoy. We rushed a little eating since they were close to closing but we loved everything we got here! I should start keeping a list of places like this one for places I need to make a second and even third visit to for their other dishes.

Just glancing at the menu during a stroll in Cap Hill interested me and I wanted to give this place a try. Paid a visit on a Friday around 6PM and was able to get a table fairly quickly. There are parking garages in the building that Nue is located at, though I am not sure about parking validation. There should be plenty of street parking as the restaurant is located more on the outskirts of Cap Hill. I got to the restaurant via a 10 minute walk from the nearest light rail station. Service was a bit slow when went, I think after we were seated, there unfortunately were two large groups that can in afterwards. We had to flag down the service workers to place our order and get the check. As for the food, it came out after 10 minutes one at a time. The restaurant itself is decorated nicely, lots of memorabilia from various countries and even the check came out in a passport-esque binder. We got a couple of things, which I'll review down below: Carribean Pineapple Cornbread ($8): Tasty cornbread that has nice coconut flakes spread through the batter and around the cornbreads. The cornbread was moist and there is a pineapple undertone in the flavor profile. One downside was that the quantity is quite small, I think for the price, you get like 2 3x3 squares of cornbread, which I think is unfortunately not enough as an appetizer even. Chengdu Wings ($24): These wings do have a tasty flavor profile and have a fragrant aroma when you bite into them. The batter is crispy and they are pleasing to eat! Once again, I unfortunately think the suffers in terms of quantity - you maybe get like 3 wings for $24, which I personally think is a very steep price for fried chicken wings, regardless of the flavor profile. I understand that not everyone can handle very spicy flavor, and personally think that despite the name being Chengdu Wings, it serves as a good entry to Sichuanese cuisine for people given the motivation of the restaurant. Malaysian Dhal ($22): A pleasant dish that has a fragrant coconut, lime, and lemongrass flavor that represents the flavors of Malaysia well. The stew has a pleasant consistency and each bite coats your tongue with the fragrant flavors. The roti is flaky on the outside and soft on the inside - perfect for enjoying this dish. African Bunny Chow ($24): Probably the most filling dish that we have ordered at Nue - I think if you are hungry, maybe go for this one. There is a decent amount of meat in this dish, and the flavors are tasty - it feels like a slightly more toned down Dhal in terms of fragrance, but has a pleasant thicker consistency. In the end, I think Nue is better served as a Tapas-esque restaurant than a place you would visit if you are hungry. Prices vs. quantity does suffer quite a bit at Nue unfortunately, which is why I think it serves as a place to sample cuisines in a night out and then maybe visit elsewhere to complete your dinner. The food is flavorful and pleasing to the general audience, which is a good thing for people who generally aren't very adventurous in their culinary horizons. I'm not sure I would revisit, but I would definitely recommend this to people that lean more on the safer side of dining out.

That being said, good luck finding parking…read morefor this place as street parking gets atrociously full around most times of the day, including Friday night around 8pm. Back to my rave: this place is comfy and a great place to just sit in when it's chilly outside. There's a comfy couch near the entrance, many knickknacks strewn around the inside and it's brightly lit to the point where you feel like you're at home instead of a cafe. The owner of the place is very sweet and welcoming, and the pastries shown around the area looked so delicious. For this visit, my friend and I got the Thai green tea latte, key lime tea, egg tart and a slice of tiramisu crepe cake. The egg tart was warm and yummy, and quite big too so it has a mochi-like layer inside it. The tiramisu crepe cake had tons of layers of crepe and cream along with the tiramisu powder sprinkled on top. This was creamy, delightful and calming all around, that's how good this cake was! My key lime tea is a mix of Thai tea and fresh lime juice, and I'm surprised that neither part interfered with each other too much given one is sweet and the other relatively sour. The Thai green tea latte was just as great to drink. This place is so cozy and cute, and the owner gave us great service. When you do find parking, come here for some drinks and desserts, it'll be worth it!

Been eyeing this spot for crepe cakes but unfortunately they did not have them on my visit. I asked…read moreand got a generic "not today" so not really sure when they offer them, so can't help provide an update here. On the bright side, there's a clean washroom, the space is small but cozy, and they have wifi plus available. Solid spot to lounge. Would consider coming back crossing my fingers for a crepe cake. Strawberry Snowie Frappe - it's a solid dessert. Very sweet and likely double blended because it's not super icy, rather the liquid collects at the bottom. However the icy blend at the top wasn't watery either, there was still some flavor. Overall, it was as expected, but a decent refresher on this street.
