    Downstairs seating...NOT my preference.

Visit Saturday, 4/4/26. Based on the reviews & compliments seen & heard the Hubby & I had high hopes & expectations for this spot, especially after a $225.00 check (tip not included). Unfortunately, that is NOT what we received. The wait time was fair, about an hour or so. That gave the Hubby & I the opportunity to be tourist in our own city. And that, was the best part of this experience. That & the music! When we received the notification our table was ready, we walked inside & saw the vibrant atmosphere, smiling faces, heard clinking glasses & cheers. The music was awesome, & I was excited. Then the hostess led us downstairs to another dining area. VERY dark, very moody, but the music was still awesome! My excitement diminished significantly but the Hubby said "This is more intimate", & I reluctantly relaxed. Seated at ~1:20, received waters at ~1:25. Server finally came to the table around 1:39, took our drink order, & received our drinks around 1:50. 2:05 the server came back to take our appetizer/food order, & I asked about the "brunch" menu. The server response was, "it's the 'all things grits'". I asked about omelets & she responded "those are on our breakfast menu which ends at 11". We placed our order, & I asked to keep a menu in case I wanted another drink. Appetizers arrived at 2:19, & we literally could not tell which wings were which, & the server was no where to be found to ask, so we had to taste them. Thankfully the wings were good, but the lack of plates, napkins, & server to request any cancelled that out. We saw an attendant clearing a neighboring table & asked him for extra napkins, but he told us to asked the server. Let's just say we never received extra napkins. Our food finally arrived at 2:58! My Hubby received one wrong side, but he said the jerk lamb chops were okay. My ribeye & eggs were COLD! Cold to the touch & taste, but the potatoes were PIPING HOT! That says nothing other than the food was prepared in the wrong order. Hubby's correct side was brought by another server. About 10 minutes afterwards our server was flying past us but the Hubby forced her to stop to tell her about my cold (at that point even colder) food. She asked if I wanted the food remade, but considering it took almost an hour to get the food in the first place, the lack of service & attention, I said no and asked for a to-go plate. I said I'd come back & make sure to request to sit in the main dining area & give the restaurant another chance, but the Hubby said absolutely not! For me, to hear him to say that speaks volumes, so we will not return.

I haven't actually got to dine in at the new location but did place a to go order for the catfish and grits. I was craving a really good catfish and grits with a cream sauce and this definitely exceeded my expectation. I would like to give them a try dining in, but I saw they require a $50 deposit per person which is a little excessive so I'll just continue to order to go for now. The sauce was flavorful I do wish the catfish was fried a little hard, but that wasn't an option when you ordered to go. I definitely recommend trying this based on my experience for to go. I hope to make my way in one day to see what the ambience and service is like.

Food was fresh, seasoned perfectly, and came out quick. Not a single miss. Our server was AMAZING. Super detailed, gave her favorites, and even helped us adjust our order for pre race. Honorable mention to the R&B playlist... 10 out of 10, no skips. We might have to spin the block instead of trying somewhere new in Houston

Yelp family, you didn't fail me!!! We decided to have brunch here based on reviews and went ahead and made a reservation (make the reservation, you'll thank me later) for brunch on Sunday. We walked in and was seated quickly. Brian was our server. Brian got us started on waters while we looked at the menu, we ended up ordered calamari and wings (jerk/orange pepper) but was told that they were out of calamari and decided on the cauliflower with general tao's sauce. I got the Nearest Peach drink with whipped cream on top and order the Taste of Soul but opted for oxtails. The appetizers started the meal off right. The cauliflower was a great highlight as everyone enjoyed it (someone even mentioned ordering another one and even ordering to take home with them), the jerk chicken was good although the jerk was a little on the drier side than the orange pepper was. However you know food is good when you don't have to add anything to it (salt, pepper, hot sauce) and that's what was given to me. The greens had nice heat to them, the yams were sweet and delicious, the oxtail still had a little too much fat on them for me, but it didn't stop me from getting into them. The cornbread waffle was a nice little addition. The rice with the gravy was a nice bite. Seriously, I just sat there and smiled because this plate of food didn't disappoint. If you like liquor, you'll like this drink. Seriously, there's nothing that has me questioning if I would come back and try it again. My sister has the blackened catfish and grits which she enjoyed, my friend had the fried catfish and grits which she said the cream sauce made the dish . . . No complaints from us. The place gets busy so I highly recommend making that reservation. It has a busy, lively vibe and when you walk in, do get intimidated by the size as there's a whole upstairs section. And the service Brian provided was TOP NOTCH!!! He made sure that when we walked out, we were satisfied. GO!!! Thank me later.

Had my second visit here as I was in Houston for work. Was excited to come and introduce this restaurant to my wife as my first experience was great, however this time around it wasn't as great. We sat at our table and waited to be acknowledged by our server which took a little longer than normal but that's okay no worries, our server apologized. Ordered our drinks and then placed our food order since we were ready. I ordered an Arnold Palmer and my wife ordered a Starry, followed the Gumbo and taste of soul for myself and my wife ordered the Cajun pasta with no bacon. Our food came out and unfortunately the Cajun pasta came out but it did not come out as it read on the menu with Cajun cream sauce, it came out with marinara sauce. We made a comment to our server and she told us it came with either sauce or no sauce so we pulled up the menu and sure enough it said Cajun cream sauce or substitute for marinara sauce which we did not do. So when she came back around we showed her the menu and she said she would check. Upon confirming she took the plate back and said she'd get it fixed. We waited a few minutes and the plate came back out however it came with bacon which we had asked to not include in the dish, at this point we were hungry and wanted to start eating so my wife said it was okay and didn't want to wait to have it re made again. The restaurant was not really full so it was a bit disappointing that this happened as I was really excited to have my wife try this restaurant. Not sure if we'll be coming back but at least we got to experience the restaurant.

Chose Taste Kitchen because they had all day waffles! Went to celebrate a friends competition win & her request was waffles. Went had a large group ~20 people. I would say this place is not fit for large groups. Could only seat tables of 6 all next to each other. Ended up booking through their large party coordinator which requires a deposit, fair as it's a large party. Prior to booking, attempted to just book through OpenTable - even there they require a $50/person deposit, non refundable, which seemed a little extreme. Our waitress was fantastic, attentive and had great suggestions. Overall the group seemed to think the food was fair. Those of us that got waffles were very happy. The jerk chicken was super flavorful and waffles were so fluffy. The Jerk lamb was also great! One of the best Espresso martinis I've had in HTX. If you're wanting a place to be able to have a conversation, this isn't it. The music was so loud you could hardly think, let alone have a conversation without shouting at each other.

Okay we are a party of 7 so we tried many dishes. But let me say that we ordered and reordered and then reordered fried cauliflower This recipe was the star of the show for all 7 of us. Could not get enough. The strawberry salad comes with a bourbon vinaigrette dressing gross needs work. We asked for it to be on the side but they put it on the salad the staff was so sweet totally amazing staff. The grilled shrimp and Gouda loved the cornbread my nephew rated it 3 star. He really was Not too impressed but the Service is top notch. Mixed drinks omg three drinks left me feeling Whow great. Needless to say this is my second visit here and I will always return here

Celebrated a birthday here with friends and what a great experience! Brian was our server and he was phenomenal. He provided suggestions, honest feedback and asked questions to ensure that our needs were met. I ordered catfish and grits with mocha coffee and saying it was delicious is an understatement! We also received complimentary appetizers for completing a Toyota survey. I ordered orange pepper/ jerk wings. Cauliflower wings coated in general tso was also ordered and was tasty. Friends ordered cocktails with their meals and they looked and smelled great. I look forward to returning to Taste in the future and hope that Brian is our server. I highly recommend!

Needed a quick late afternoon lunch to go and Taste was the closest place ... lemme just say that sometimes you don't have to travel far for amazing. I ordered the lobster Mac and Cheese--it was spectacular. The lobster had a little spice to it but every bite just left me wanting more. The restaurant was clean, the staff friendly and helpful and the vibe was hip and impressive. Taste is most definitely worth a visit.

Had a little bit of a wait but it was a conference weekend so I'm not surprised. I really loved this place and cannot wait to come back. The drinks were great, the chicken was THE BEST, and the Mac and red velvet waffles were worth every penny. I can't wait to come back to Houston and eat here. Thank you as well to the chef for coming out and introducing himself. I was also very impressed by the managers memory who took 10+ drink orders. Thank you all for the great hospitality!

Taste Kitchen & Bar has one of the best happy hours I've found: great flavor, solid portions, and a fun atmosphere. I was in town for AfroTech, so it was definitely packed, which may have influenced the wait time ( we had a reservation and were fine but some one right after us didn't and it was a 2 hour wait) and the overall energy, but it was still a good experience. What I recommend: Jerk Lamb Chops - my top pick. Full flavor and cooked well. Chicken & Waffles - surprisingly good; crispy and well-balanced. Cocktails - creative presentation and good pours (pictured). Things to know: It gets loud, so this is more of a vibe than a quiet dinner spot. Make a reservation, especially on busy weekends or conference weeks. Happy hour is absolutely worth it--good value for what you get. Overall: I'd give it 4 stars mainly because of the volume level, but the food and happy hour make it worth a visit. If you're looking for great flavor, good energy, and strong cocktails, Taste delivers.

The young lady at the front did her best to accommodate us by apologizing, giving us a free cobbler and juice for the little one. We ordered a few different things: fried whole wings, dirty rice, yams, cabbage, mango habanero wings, fries, red beans and rice and Kool-aide. The fried wings, rice, fries and cabbage were well seasoned- you could taste the butter in them. My son wasn't crazy about the red beans n rice or mango habanero wings. He said it was more beans than rice and the wings lacked flavor. The Kool -aide was super sweet (as expected), but I added water to make it more palatable. While waiting we talked to some other guests Who decided to wait. Later the cook came out and chatted a bit- he was nice. Overall, food is good just come with patience.

We went on a Saturday for lunch. Hopefully this was just a one-off, but if you're looking for good Cajun boiled crawfish, this is not it. We started off with 6 lbs (group of 4) of their regular crawfish. First off, they put the Cajun seasoning on outside/shell (!!), which is a cardinal sin for Cajuns. They also minimally seasoned the boil, so the meat was lacking salt and flavor. We ordered 3 more lbs with the "wet sauce" (garlic butter), thinking the lack of flavor may be attributed to this being the first-ish batch of the day. Nope, the second batch was even less seasoned than the first. The sauce was good, but it didn't make up for the unseasoned meat. The crawfish were a good size, at least... Come on guys, I expect more from a Gulf Coast seafood restaurant!

The vibe was very nice, had the R&B jams in the background but wasn't overly loud to where you can't converse. It was a beautiful sunny day outside and it reflected all throughout the large windows of the restaurant. A+ for the ambiance. We started off with mimosa carafes for the table, great blend of juice and champagne. No complaints at all about the mimosas. He started us with a round of biscuits, with butter & jelly on the side. Would give it overall rating of 8.5/10, I actually liked them they weren't too sweetened like other biscuits. For food, I ordered the Buttermilk Waffles, turkey links, and side of Smoked Gouda Mac & Cheese. The food was good, above average in my opinion. The buttermilk waffles weren't overly crisp but still had nice warm flavor (8.7/10), turkey links were satisfactory (8.1/10), and the mac & cheese was above average as well, not out of this world but pretty good nonetheless (8.0/10). In my opinion, I give this restaurant a 5-stars, not just because of the food (4 stars), but just the overall experience. The ambiance was great, our server was hilarious, kept us entertained the entire time, and they were convenient nonetheless. They do 20% auto-gratuity as well. Feels good when an establishment takes pride in their customer's feedback and puts a plan into action. Honestly, part of me was hoping that last time was just a fluke or an off day. This time around, everything from the service to the food was great. We had a 12:30 Sunday reservation for two and opted to sit inside this time. We ordered the cast-iron cornbread, chargrilled oysters, and a cup of gumbo each to start. For entrées, I had the Gulf Fish, while my husband went with the crawfish Florentine. Everything came out beautifully timed, almost like a perfectly paced three-course meal, which obviously made the whole experience feel elevated and relaxed. Our waiter was knowledgeable, attentive, and on top of everything without being overbearing. I also tried the prickly pear aid (non-alcoholic), and it was super refreshing, definitely worth ordering if you like a little tartness to cleanse your palate. Overall, this visit felt like a completely different experience than last time. It delivered the elevated experience a place like Eunice promises and what I was used to originally. Looking forward to celebrating my birthday here in June!

Unfortunately, the overall dining experience was disappointing due to both the service and the food quality. Our server was very slow throughout the evening. After ordering cocktails, it took approximately 20 minutes for them to arrive. We then ordered our meals... I had the burger and fries, while my girlfriend ordered the shrimp and grits. Both dishes were noticeably over salted. After finishing our meals, we waited an additional 15-20 minutes just to receive a dessert menu. Eventually, we decided not to wait any longer and went to Dessert Gallery down the street instead. While the atmosphere and appearance of the restaurant were excellent, the slow service and food issues negatively impacted the experience. Based on this visit, I would likely not return.
