It was my first time trying this place out, after a gym sesh. Post workout meal! Ordered the Northender, which consisted of smoked turkey, avocado, bacon, tomato, and basil mayo on French bread. It tasted really good, got the combo that also comes with a fountain drink and chips. They give you a buzzer when you order, and you don't pay til you get your food. Noticed they had gelato, but instead I got their Lemon bar. It was really good, you gotta try it! Gonna try their gelato next time I go there! They had seating inside and a little porch area outside to sit out on a lovely day. The place was really neat, they even had a table long enough for "The Last Supper" lol. Also, Unfair they don't offer a substitute for chips when you order chips and drinks. After waiting in line to order my sandwich, I was informed if I wanted something else I could grab it from the to go fridge/store section and she would ring in separately. While she offered this, it was clear that I would lose my place in line. Tip for future newbies at this location, as I was wanting a borjo Cafe latte with my sandwich this location only has canister pump coffee carafes available... no borjo. Then after I paid $14.25 for a sandwich chips and 20oz fountain soda I went to find a table. They give you a number on a stand so the server knows where to deliver the sandwich. I couldn't find a two top that wasn't wobbling significantly. So, I sat down at a four top as a single during busy lunch hour. After all that, when the sandwich came... no chips. I didn't realize it at first since I didn't want chips really. When I did I had to go back to the counter to ask why didn't they come with the drink. She then told me they are in the store section and you just pick anyone you want. (Ok so it is ok to do that for chips but not a fresh fruit cup... boggles the brain). Mind now that my coat and food had to be left at my table on the other side of the restaurant unattended... as I am a single for lunch this bothered me. If the lady behind the counter could've taken the time to ask if I'd been here before or the foresight to tell me where to pick up chips before I sat down this experience might have been different. But as a whole the sandwich was good and enough to eat, the lady who delivered my food (short brown hair) was so nice and greeted me not just dropping off the food, and the cleanliness of the place shined. I don't know why it's taken me this long to leave a review, so let's get right into it. ~ The Good ~ Taste has a huge variety of sandwiches, soups and wraps. They also have gelato and bakery goods right up front where you place your order, so you can plan for your dessert! Their artisan breads, meat, and cheeses are always fresh. My go-to sandwhich is the "Ghent" which comes with oven roasted chicken breast, basil mayo, roasted red peppers and THE BEST provolone cheese. In the winter around the holidays I get this turkey and stuffing sandwich, I wish it wasn't just seasonal because it's so good! I crave eating here at the very least once a week. Aside from the delicious made to order foods they also have a pretty impressive craft beer selection (they also serve beer on tap, great stop for growlers), house made wines, chocolate and other gourmet snacks and spreads. You can make your own gift baskets and they also have premade ones, all using locally made items. This place is like a little market place and eatery in one. ~ The...slightly not so good ~ I definitely won't say there's anything bad at Taste but I'd like to be real with y'all, it's pretty pricey. BUT you get what you pay for. They use the freshest veggies, breads and meats. I'm pretty sure it's farm to table which means you should expect to pay a little more for the high quality of food, which I don't mind (even if my bank account does.) This location also gets pretty busy around lunch time so prepare to wait a bit if you're on your lunch break trying to do a grab and go. I wish they were open later than they are, they close at 7 on weekdays/weekends except Sunday when they close at 5. ~ Conclusion ~ This is a top notch sandwhich shop and little market. Okay - totally funny going to this location. It is hidden from normal travelers. You are definitely looking for this location because it is not visible as you travel on the main roads around the shopping area. The regulars here are just as impressed with themselves as the regulars at the oceanfront. How dare that newbie darken our doorstep. Funny! They look as if you showed up to Ruth Cris in shortie shorts and flip flops. Taste is a private restaurant - Correct? The location is well organized and very clean. The outdoor seating is so cute. I will be back just to sit outside and enjoy my sandwich while I people watch. The parking here is 100 percent better than the other two locations. I pulled up to the front door and parked at 1 p.m. A first for me at Taste since 1985. I always come around lunch time no matter which location I visit. This place is for foodies. Freshness everywhere. Great tasting novelty foods that will amaze your taste buds. Love my Gluten free Tate's cookies in every flavor. Samples of lovely food greet you at the door. The sandwich of the day was the Northender with a side of shrimp salad coupled with a tasty bit of tea. Everything was amazing. The service was good. She gave that uncomfortable you noticed me watching you smile that made my day. I wanted to say - "Yes I see you walking two feet behind me in a circle. Ha ha! Now go take an aspirin for that dizzy spell." I have not experienced that treatment since Rices and Nachman's in the Mall (circa 1981). I will be back because all Taste stores serve amazing food and the portions always cover two meals. The prices are so low for such high quality food. All the sides are fresh and well prepared. You cannot go wrong. Always a winner. Yummy! I like the attitudes of the staff at the oceanfront much better. All customers in the other two locations are treated equally and the wine tastings at the oceanfront are a lot of fun. I will not give up on this location because it is 20 mins closer to my home. 'The watcher' just needs a reality check. There is no one type of customer that she needs to follow around. Provide great service to each customer and all will be fine. Taste is a location for foodie 'folks' of with many different physical characteristics. I will be back. Next time I will hug her for fun. Since I last worked out in the Greenbrier area 4 years ago Taste Unlimited has moved from their old space that was behind Cracker Barrel over into a new larger space in the Greenbrier Townplace shops. We walked in and the first thing you notice is that the new location is easily 3-4 times the size of the old one and contains a larger deli, dining area & store. It's actually a bit 'over the top'. I ordered a Northender and I believe my co-worker William ordered a Beach Club. We were given little flashing light disc's and told they would let us know when our sandwiches were ready. After a short wait the device went off and we grabbed our food. I have to say for the almost $10 I dropped for this artsy sandwich there wasn't much to it. My co-worker agreed. The meal was kinda flavorless actually... mundane to say the least. I finished my entree however my co-worker only ate about half of his and tossed the rest in the trash. We decided to grab some Gelato. Mine was a sorta peanut butter creme with chunks of chocolate in it while my co-worker went for plain chocolate. Again, off the mark, even more so than the tasteless sandwich. This Gelato, if you want to call it that, was like eating raw sugar. I can't put my finger on it but there was something not right about it. Neither of us finished our Gelato's. I was really disappointed with this visit. Something has happened, Taste Unlimited has changed. Their locations used to be cool little sandwich shops that was a bit over priced but always had great food with decent portions. Now the theme they seem to be going for is a upscale corporate hipster executive soccer mom kinda place with bags of designer cookies and coffees. I miss the charming little cafe it was, but a place has got to grow. This newer location is much better, if only for parking purposes. There's finally lots of it. The store is bigger, but they crammed more stuff inside. They sell a lot of randomness. Not just food. You can buy a patterned tote, some notebooks, a shirt, old-school candy, and a stuffed animal. Just weird. It's like some sorta novelty store on the sly. I always call in my order as soon as they open. I can't be a part of their lunch rush. It's like none other. My order varies from the Lynnhaven to a PB&J on a croissant. Depending on my mood. They excel at both. However I don't care for the salads. While they're very large, they don't offer a salad dressing that complements any of them. The Buttermilk Boursin is almost acceptable. But I think they need to go back to the drawing board with the "housemade" dressings. Their housemade pimento cheese is EVERYTHING. Which is mostly why the Lynnhaven is my favorite sandwich. There's something about the chicken, as well. It's so full of pure flavor. It's hard to explain. Something to try, though. You will NOT get a sandwich like this at any other sandwich shop. read more

It was creamy, hearty & crabby!!!! Unfortunately i had a few hard crab pieces in it from the meat. other than that it was so so so good!!! This review is based strictly on the gift shop and the gelato!! 5 stars seriously for me! On a little corner tucked away on the side beside the Hyatt and apartment complex of the greenbrier area is "Taste!" I love the name and the concept! I was so excited to see they have a wine selection and went straight for that area! Seriously because I love me some wine I had To grab me a bottle of prickly pear Riesling and their gluten free chocolate chip cookies to bring home. Beverages and a little freezer of assortments to buy, cheese, crackers, cookies! They also had samples of the Virginia nuts to try and an assortment of goodies that are awesome take homes and evening for gifting. It's a little market, restaurant and gift shop in one. I'm seriously enjoying my Thai coconut gelato and the classic 70's music outside in the patio. It's a casual environment but with a classy flare with simple foods and sandwiches that I did not order. I will definitely be back here and "taste" all menu has to offer here. I'm in love with the ambiance great for groups, dates and hang outs with the girls. My boys will certainly love the gelato! This is an excellent Taste location. There are a lot of little shops in this strip mall area and it's near my hair salon and spa, Natural Elements, so I love that I can run over here for a meal after or between treatments and spoiling. It's good to know there is a really yummy spot so close. I've reviewed some of the other Taste locations before so I don't know how in-depth I should go but they have lots of sandwich options on the menu and you can build your own. Their salads are really yummy as are their soups and pastas. I really love the Boardwalk - yum. I also love their brunswick stew. The raspberry sammies are always a nice way to wrap up a meal here - or take them to go. read more

Overall, we had a good experience here, but it wasn't anything spectacular or mindblowing. We were staying at nearby hotel within walking distance, so we tried this for lunch. I ordered the Northender and my fiance ordered the seasonal chicken parmesan sandwich. He enjoyed his sandwich, though it could've been warmer. My sandwich was also fine, but the bread was falling apart. I asked for my sandwich to be heated, but it wasn't really hot at all. Toasting the bread would help. Also, the french bread slice was a bit awkward to hold/handle. It might be a better sandwich on different bread. We had some of the fountain sodas, which were fine. I like it because the food doesn't make you feel sluggish and slow after, but instead you feel satisfied and ready to carry on with the day. So if you have a lot of errands to run, eat here first and you won't be lazy afterwards to do what you need to do haha. The only downside is that its a little pricey for what you get. I don't come to Taste nearly as much as I should, but I always forgot about this location. It's located in the back of a shopping center so it's easy to miss if you don't know it's there. I love that taste is like a mini mart that sells a variety of snacks, drinks, cheeses, dips, and much more immediately when you walk in the door. I usually look at a menu before ordering, but I have a couple go-to sandwiches when I'm craving taste. I love the First Landing and Inlet veggie sandwiches as well as the Northender. You really can't go wrong with any of the sandwiches because they are all delicious. I usually get a half with chips and drink as well. Once you place your order at the front, you get a number or buzzer that lets you know when it's ready. You also pay when you pick up your sandwich. It usually only takes 10 minute at the max depending on how busy they are. There is seating both inside and outside with some umbrellas to block the sun. I like coming here on nice days enjoying the weather. There are a couple other Taste locations in the area, and this one is definitely one of my favorites. Everything on the menu has a local component whether it's the name of the item or even where the ingredients are sourced. My favorite sandwich here is the boardwalk! I'm not sure if you can just choose one but I am always so happy with that choice as it is a pretty large sandwich and it keeps me full for pretty much the rest of the day. I usually get their crab chips (yum) and cream soda! While you can probably get a meal for under $10 - but let's just say it's easy to meet the $25 minimum for delivery if you're ordering for more than one person. It's probably a tad higher priced than a Panera but I think you get more for your buck and if you're into aesthetic then it's the way to go. How do you get free sandwiches? Lately I've been pretty patient about a wait for food as I know places are short staffed but this location was just plain unorganized. My husband and I waited 25 minutes for two sandwiches while we watched others get served that came in after us. When my husband asked about our order the girl just handed him the two wrapped sandwiches without a "so sorry for the wait" or "thanks for your patience". I paid $86 at Taste yesterday because I haven't been to Taste since 2014 when we moved out of Norfolk to California. We are back in the area temporarily for my husbands training school. I got the shrimp salad and shared it with my husband. Last night I was doubled over in pain but I thought I was getting a stomach flu. This morning I woke up still feeling sick . My husband is also feeling sick but still has to go into training. I looked at the containers this morning and noticed this one was over a month past it's sell by date I'm going to call them once they open and get my money back from this container. I would just go in but it's a 40 min drive and since I'm unable to leave the restroom for more than 20 mins I'm sure they will understand. I gave it two stars because the gelato was good but I still got food poisoning. Check your sell by dates at this place. I have another shrimp salad that is fine. However I've lost my ability to eat it since I've seen it coming up. 20$ wasted at taste. Very upsetting. Also he crab cake sandwich was soggy. I tried this place out for lunch with my mom and sister. It took me awhile to realize that it's part of Townplace in Greenbrier. The concept reminds me of Au Bon Pain or Panera. You order and then they call you up when it's ready. My only issue is the seating. Granted, I came during peak lunch time. Still, I was lucky enough to find a place for all of us to sit together. I like that you don't order until you pick it up. This gives you plenty of time to walk around and grab some goodies to eat along with your meal whether it be kettle chips or some yummy cookies. Both of which you can try before purchasing since they offer some samples right by the door. In an effort to be healthy, I ordered a grilled chicken caesar salad. I loved the dressing and their crouton ratio! I can't ever seem to get enough croutons until I got to this place. My salad came with toasted end loaf of bread with butter to spread. Taste is a great lunch place. They have both the classics and some more modern combinations. I like the nice rustic feel of the sandwiches and soup, and I appreciate that the menu changes seasonally. Soup comes piping hot, with a nice bit of starchy bread and cold butter. I would avoid the cold pea soup if it comes back on the summer menu-- it was gluey and gloppy. What I really enjoy is the catered food. Taste's grilled vegetable platter, could turn a veggie hater into a believer. The vegetables had nice grill marks, and were super flavorful. Not what I expected. This has the look and feel of a Whole Foods market - bright, clean aesthetic, helpful people, uniquely branded food items with (sometimes) even more unique ingredients, and pricey, pricey, pricey. Eschewing the "market" portion , and focusing on the soup and sandwich portion, I was unimpressed. To be frank, I felt ripped off. We got the Chesapeake Crab-cake which was quite delicious I must say. It wasn't $11 for a crab-cake on a roll delicious, but it had nice chunks of crab, was seasoned well, and the brioche roll was buttery smooth and fresh. The only saving grace. The Lynnhaven was a sandwich with an identity crisis. Room temperature chicken with room temperature pimento cheese (which was a sort of spread, some pizazz to it, but terrible , awkward congealed texture due to temperature) with cold bacon, spinach, and tomato on non-toasted or warmed Italian flat bread.. it was almost gross and felt sloppy and ill prepared. I'm a huge fan of New England clam chowder, and also love sampling new things at new places.. so I ordered a cup ($5!) yea... I won't do that again. If you refer to my terrible photography attached to this, not only can you see the aforementioned congealed cheese but more importantly, you can see the ring of grease bouying the soup. How cooking a burger pushes the fat to the edges? That's what the soup looked like and tasted like. More potato then clam, and all lard. The bread it came with was stale and got thrown out. These three items with one (1) fountain drink.. $32. Yea.. Honestly, this place deserved a worse review, however some places have off days. If they had prepped the Lynnhaven correctly, it wouldn't have been a bad sandwich, and people seem to love their soups, and I imagine not all the bread is stale.. so perhaps I was just unlucky and in this circumstance, i'll give the benefit of the doubt. My lasting impression though is that this place doesn't live up to the hype, and is basically an expensive Panera Bread dressed as a Whole Foods, titled as an eatery. read more

The Chesapeake location is much bigger than NN with a larger area to prepare orders & it came out much faster. The sandwiches are always good and the bread is fresh. Chesapeake offers wine & beer. You can also get a sampler of 4 types of beer or wine. A whole sandwich run $7-10. We belong to the rewards club where you buy 12 sandwiches & get one free. Well the value they give you free is only $5 which doesn't get you a whole sandwich. 4/17 signature half sandwiches is available for $4.99. While visiting Chesapeake and staying in a Crossways Blvd area hotel, we stopped in here for lunch. We were instantly impressed with the looks - love how they had samples of various cheeses and popcorns out for trial. Half of the place is a gourmet food store with lots of nice, local VA wines and the other half was dining room. The menu was amazing and impressive as well! There were so many tough choices, but we each picked one and really liked what we got. They had several soups available and they allowed us to taste what they were like before selecting one. The Jerk Chicken Soup was amazing and really unique! They have fresh cheese spreads they make, the Sassy Southern Cheese was OUTSTANDING!!! The staff was friendly and all smiles and the restaurant was nice and clean, with prompt service. This place has VERY delicious salads! I created my own salad and it was really good. You also get to create your own sandwich too. Went here for lunch and it wasn't crowded, which was great. They even make their own gelato. I shall be back to get some gelato! I love how they have a lot of gluten-free options such as their croutons and their salad dressings. I was running late and didnt feel like waiting in line as usual when i come to taste. I called and placed an order (for 1 sandwich) when i was told it would be ready in 15 minutes. I get there and wait an additional 30 minutes before approaching staff about my order. They talk in quiet for a couple minutes before telling me they forgot to put my order in and I need to wait ANOTHER 45-60 minutes because of the wait.... I was just like can you make it real quick or give me a refund and the one employee was getting visibly irritated that I had the nerve to question why Im waiting 2 hours when I ordered 30 minutes before I arrived. She even turned the screen around to show me how many orders were in front of me! Ive been to taste dozens of times (and still will go) but stay away from this location. I eat here at least once a week for lunch. Is it overpriced? Absolutely. Unfortunately my addiction doesn't understand what that means. Before I went vegan my go to was the Tidewater. I could eat it everyday it was that good. The chicken salad paired perfectly with the salty ham, swiss cheese and house dressing. Now my go to is the First Landing with no cheese and add avocado and roasted red peppers. Fellow vegans- try it. It hits the spot every time, it's amazing. Their baked pastries and desserts are also really good but unfortunately none are vegan. Employees are great, always smiling and seem happy to be there. Definitely check it out but be prepared to pay a pretty penny for lunch, but know that you're getting fresh quality ingredients. read more
