Everything was 10/10! The chefs goku-razy!! They did a great job at educating us on each piece and what type of fish it was. The drinks were also amazing and very unique. My top two favorite pieces were the shima Aji and the chu toro. The ube tres leches dessert was incredible!!

The ambiance, service, and omakase was wonderful. Couldn't ask for more when experiencing this place. Highly recommend for date night or just craving omakase. Can't wait to go back again!

Tare was one of my favorite omakase experiences in Austin, and it might actually be my second favorite in the city. Vibes are perfect, and the sushi chefs are so funny and sweet. I had a great time with my two friends, and their drinks are also delicious. I love that they have only slight unique takes on very traditional pieces because I'm not a fan of super inventive omakase menus. This was so worth the money, and I would 20000% come back again. Thank you for a great night, Tare!

Loved my experience at Tare. While the nigiri pieces were amazing, what stood out to me with Tare was the pacing of the omakase. I blocked off over two hours for the meal on my Google Calendar since that's how long omakase meals usually take. At Tare, it only took 1h20 minutes from start to finish. Some might not like how speedy the courses are, and yes, it could've been slowed down a little bit so that I had a bit more time to catch up with my friend who I was dining with, but to be honest, it was kind of refreshing to have an omakase experience where there were long gaps of time in between courses. Speaking of the courses, there were multiple that really stood out to me: - Negi Toro - Hotate - Chu Toro - O Toro I loved my A5 fat washed old fashioned as well.

This was our second omakase experience in Austin and at Tare. We had such a great first experience we had to return this year for a fun date night. If you're looking for a special occasion dinner spot, this is it! The food is amazing, every bite is so fresh and delicious and well thought out, from the salad or soup at the beginning to the dessert at the end. Both times we have been big fans of the fatty bluefin tuna, especially when it is topped with caviar. Besides the fresh fish and refreshing sake and cocktails, the service is also phenomenal. We had the pleasure of chatting with Chef Michael, Christian and Colin. They are all so personable and funny and make the dinner feel a little more approachable and less intimidating. We were lucky enough to get to try a special Mezcal with Michael, that was specifically curated and picked for Tare - the most smooth Mezcal. This place is 15/10 and we can't wait to be back!

Tare is that middle spot between a casual omakase and a great one. You won't leave full due to it being both shorter and more affordable than some of the other places in the city, but you will still enjoy that you had a nice meal with a few unique pieces. For the price that it is, the fact that they even had something that was different in taste and/or fish species is still something to give them props for. This place is more casual than other higher end spots. I ended up behind a crash about 5 minutes away and they still accommodated for my lack of punctuality due to it. They greeted me outside where we had to navigate up some stairs into a pretty much hidden room (not the hidden as in there's obviously something here around this artsy place but hidden as in "ARE WE IN THE RIGHT BUILDING" sort of way). They seem to be really, really nice for that and to others. Throughout the meal as they explained the bite, they also didn't seem to demand much attention so we had other patrons have conversations over their spiel. I always love hearing about where the food comes from and that behavior wouldn't fly elsewhere, but I also think if you're looking for something casual with a higher price tag for the night, you would be pleased with how laid back they are. The omakase itself had a shorter menu than most. I would say there were some standouts and some not. Usually the madai isn't something I write home about, but this one was really good! Ending off with akami, chutoro, and a decadent otoro was.... A choice. I would have personally wanted that split up with lighter bites early on, but I enjoyed the otoro. The dessert bite was better than most as well. I'd say skip the sake pairing. The meal lasts around an hour and it'll just slow you down. Overall, it was good but unsure about the bang for buck you'd get.

Tare omakase combines Texan fusion with sushi, creating unique flavor profiles and interesting palate dynamics. Starting off strong, the strawberry crudo is refreshing and light, prepping your tongue for the journey to come. The drinks are good as well, although fairly strong. After the crudo starter, there are some notable fish dishes such as the Hokkaido Scallop and the Akami that are amazing, but some of the dishes on the menu lack a wow factor. Overall, the chef is very nice and welcoming, explaining where each ingredient is sourced from. My only two quips are the lack of wow factor in some dishes and that I wasn't full at the end of the meal. Otherwise, Tare is worth a try!

Tare recently was awarded as a Michelin Recommended restaurant, and I definitely agree! Tare is located in a random office building, but the chef greets you outside to walk you up to the restaurant. There are 12 seats with the chefs in the middle. We were surprised to find out 10 of them were regulars (for good reason!) Watching the chefs do their magic really makes you appreciate the love and care they put into their work. We were immediately started off with a palate refresher drink which felt tasty and sour. We ordered a couple cocktails, and I was surprised at how good they were. We ordered the gin fizz, and A5 Fat Washed Old Fashioned. Both were exceptional, and I was surprised at how the A5 Fat complimented the whiskey. There are 15 courses, 3 small plates, 11 nigiri, and 1 dessert course. A lot of the courses had some Texan influences, which only enhanced the meal. Some of the standouts of the night were the crudo, hirame, kurodai, kinmedai, negi toro, Hokkaido scallop, and the chu toro! The only dish we felt we could skip over was the ceviche, which was while very unique, kind of felt out of place. Overall I highly recommend this spot, especially if you are celebrating a special occasion!!

Blink and you might miss this place. Located in what looks like an unassuming office building, you're led to a spacious back room where the sushi magic happens. I came here with a small group of friends for my birthday celebration and were treated to a 15 course Texas-inspired omakase. Some of the standouts: - Gazpacho: The cucumber, tofu, and dill combination was bright and really opened the palate. - Madai: The seabream was so tender and fresh. - Kanpachi: The salsa really made the amberjack stand out. - Negi toro: The mix of fatty and lean tuna atop a chicharron was flavorful and full of crunchy texture. - Hotate: I love a good scallop dish and the addition of the xo sauce resulted in a tender and savory bite - Chu toro: Always a favorite. It was dry aged and sauteed with oil for a balanced and fatty flavor. I opted for a glass of sake as well for a crisp and fruity sip in between bites. The service was smooth and the chefs were personable. My tastebuds were dancing with the mix of flavors and textures. The room did feel like there was no uniformity as the other half of the room started their service earlier and ended earlier. It was definitely a step away from the more traditional omakases I'm used to, but I'm glad I gave it a try. It's obvious Chef Michael really cares about quality and innovation here.

Tare's omakase is very unique. A fusion of Mexican & Japanese flavors, each dish was nicely presented & immensely flavorful. Some standouts were the Hokkaido Scallop, Chicharron Tuna, Otoro Caviar, and Red Snapper nigiri pieces. The infusion of ingredients like lime, serranos, salsa, and chicharron to traditional Japanese sushi turns the meal into an adventure of flavors, a melding of cultures. Service was good. The vibe is laidback & the pqcing of the meal was on point. Not too fast, not too slow. Loved the interior space & coziness.

This is a Speak-Easy Sushi Experience Omakases Style. I can't say enough good stuff about this restaurant. Reservation only. Worth the price. Impressive. The sushi is phenomenal. South Texas inspired. Very fresh. The cocktail program is top notch. The friendliness of the staff is just great and super engaging. Why is it a Speak Easy? It's located in an office building with no signs. You'd never know it's there. The building is used for medical and lawyer offices. You show up at certain time and they come down and get you. As you walk up the stairs you can smell the fresh sushi being prepared. They walk you into an office break room. Right as you are wondering what the heck where is the restaurant...they pull back a wall to expose a sushi omakases. Very elegant, dark wood and shared seating. Other eaters join you to watch the chefs prepare each course in front of you. Very easy to make friends while sharing the experience. I'd be surprised if this does not get a Michelin Star soon.

Intimate 12 seat omakase. Great food and friendly staff. Omakase had a pretty good pace as well and we didnt feel rushed. Will definitely return.

Recently dined at Tare for their omakase and premium sake pairing and was blown away by the quality and service. Chef Michael and his team infuse Texas flavors throughout the 15-course omakase dinner which begins with a smoked chawanmushi (Japanese custard) that is the ultimate comfort food. The Fukuchu sparkling sake was the perfect pairing to balance the delicate flavors. Aaron is a knowledgeable beverage guide who can recommend signature cocktails, Japanese whiskey and even premium tequila/mescal selections to pair if sake is not your style. I loved the Toko "ultraluxe" the most on the pairing - super smooth like buttah. You are taken on a tour of dry aged fish sourced from high-quality purveyors in Japan and nearshore as well. While the menu is seasonal, multiple selections of bluefin tuna are typical as is a delicious Hokkaido scallop (my personal favorite- and you are invited to order more bites after the standard courses). Great value for the quality and the discreet setting is also enjoyable. Cant wait to go back for more delights from Tare - go now!

It's located inside what I think is a mini golf place (or some kind of entertainment venue haha), and the restaurant itself is hidden behind a bookshelf like a speakeasy. I had never heard of the place before, but I thought the whole concept was SO cool. The omakase itself is incredibly intimate with only a handful of seats, which makes the entire experience feel really personal. Chef and his small team are all so warm and welcoming, and one of my favorite parts was that they actually encourage everyone to get to know each other throughout the meal. It ended up feeling like one big group dinner rather than everyone quietly eating their own meal. My friend and I were even watching the Super Bowl with everyone during our seating, which made the night even more fun! The fish was, of course, phenomenal. Every piece was prepared with so much care and precision, and you could really tell how passionate Chef is about his craft. I'd say the menu falls somewhere in the middle between a super traditional Edomae omakase and a more modern, creative one, which I personally loved. Everything felt incredibly thoughtful without being overly experimental. I also have to give a shoutout to their cocktail program because every drink we had was AMAZING! I don't even think there's a traditional drink menu. Instead, their bartender just asked each of us what kinds of flavors we usually like and created custom cocktails based on our preferences. Every single drink she made for my friends and me was SO good and paired perfectly with the meal. One thing to keep in mind is that each seating is pretty long--we were there for close to three hours! It definitely felt like an experience rather than just dinner, but honestly, the time flew by because everyone was chatting, eating, and having such a great time. It is definitely on the expensive side, but for the quality of the fish, the hospitality, and the overall experience, I thought it was absolutely worth it. One of my favorite little details was that the room is filled with Chef's personal belongings, books, and little collectibles, which makes the space feel so cozy and lived in. He genuinely welcomes guests to ask him about anything in the room, and you can tell he's just such a well-rounded and passionate person. More than anything, this was just such a FUN omakase experience!! If you're looking for something that's intimate, interactive, and a little different from your typical omakase, I can't recommend Toshokan enough!

The Robot Ramen was light, yet rich, the meat was succulent (and not too thin, at the risk of being dry) and the noodles were al dente--both were cooked nicely. Really enjoyed the Pom mule drink on happy hour. The cucumber refresher was a little too sweet for me. The spinach dumplings and barbacoa dumplings were both great! The way they presented the sauces made it slightly hard to dip your roll in it, but would still order again. My friends loved the transformer roll. Yuka-tekkan was a let down for me, just not very flavorful. Overall, would definitely come back for some rolls and the happy hour! Both of the sandos were perfect. The wagyu beef sando had a little bit more flavor but it was slight and both are worth trying. The service was stellar and they were easy to book on OpenTable I also tried the green tea mocktail and found it to be light and refreshing and I was happy that it wasn't super sweet My two favorite items were: 1. The Edamame - which were charred in a way that I feel like I've never experienced it before and had such great flavor. 2. My favorite maki rolls are the scallop chirashi and the A5, but the scallop maki is the one I crave most--it's so good. Their lychee martini is also delicious and not overly sweet. The Kyoto Blush, on the other hand, was far too sweet for me, so I wouldn't order that one again. I've tried a few other dishes as well. The wagyu sando wasn't quite what I expected, since the meat had more of a patty-like texture that I didn't think paired especially well with the milk bread. The wagyu donburi had a nice layer of crispy rice at the bottom after mixing, but there were too many sour and pickled components, which threw off the balance of the dish a little. Overall, Tenten is a solid spot, especially once you know which menu items you like. Service can be a bit hit or miss, but nothing bad enough to keep me from coming back.
