I came here for girls night and absolutely loved the ambiance. The place has good seating with 3 separate dining areas. There's a back room that had live music but we were seated in the front dining area which was nice as it was better suited for chatting. While the staff was friendly, they seemed a little overwhelmed and unorganized. It took them 20 min to come over and take our drink order. Wine selection is decent. Food was great however I was not impressed with the $55 cacio e pepe...it was way too heavy and portion was small given the price tag. Highly recommend the ragú and papa tony! read more

My wife talked me into trying Tarantella on 4th, and I'm really glad she did. The food was fantastic, and we chose to sit inside where the wall art was absolutely amazing--it really added to the whole experience. I'll start with the ambiance. At first, I thiught we'd be asked to stay by the curb side tables since I had my furbaby with us. The staff directed us to the back where it felt so homey. The stones on the ground meant that the surrrounding trees could get the water they need. The backyard garden was all that that we needed to say that we hound home away from home (This may just be Long Beach but I drove all the way from Los Angeles). Since it was open air, it didn't trap the normal dining noise in. Service was superb! Though one of the staff was admittedly tired, I didn't mind his honesty at all. I said "admittedly" because when he handed us the wrong order he claimed that he was tired which led to his actions. I still liked the fact that all if them were working with each other. Absolutely loved it. The food was of course what we came here for. We were not at all disappointed. I forget what the names of the food we ordered were, too lazy to want to look it up. It does not matter. I'd gladly order anything else on their menu once I decide to go back. Yes, I do intend to go back. When we complemented the owner for having such a warm athmosphere, I liked his response. He said that he wanted to make sure that they could attend to everyone and make them feel at home. We wanted to pick a nice place with good food and a casual atmosphere. This place is on 4th Street in Long Beach which has an eclectic vibe that reminds you of Pine Ave of 2nd Street, Belmont Shore of years ago before they gentrified. Lots of people out walking around and dining. What I loved about Long Beach dining along Broadway was rear patio/ courtyard dining and La Tarantella has it! It is a great casual experience especially if the temps are below 75 degrees as no AC needed and if it gets cooler they have heaters! The food is described as Italian and certainly was pretty good pasta. The service was prompt and polite. All items we sampled were good. Buffalo Mozzarella was tasty. We were a party of two and ordered a couple of 1/2 sized main courses to share. Sharing several 1/2 courses might be the way to go. The crowd skewed younger than us but we can't wear that title forever ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Dessert was cannoli and they were good - several small ones to share. The only problem in Long Beach tends to be finding parking and we lucked out finding street parking after finding local lots were full. read more

One of my favorite restaurants in Long Beach. I love the ambience of the outside back patio dining and the food is so good. I've never been to Italy but this is what authentic Italian pasta must tastes like. The noodles literally melt in your mouth. I also had a glass of sangria which was nice. Service is great, even though it was chilly outside they had the heat lamps running so dinner was very pleasant. Portions were large but I also got full on bread and butter while we waited. It was our first time there and the vibe was great. I had ordered the lasagna and my partner the short rib. The lasagna was too watery for my liking and it wasn't hot enough. The short rib was amazing I highly recommend it. I liked the people but don't like that I felt I was being rushed. We ordered a bottle of wine and we didn't notice that there was a sign that said 90 minute time limit. The server kept coming back asking if wanted dessert. I said yes but I would like to finish my wine. We were barely there 1hr and they came back again in two minutes. I will go back but this time I hope they don't keep trying to rush us. read more

Everything was top notch here. We dined at about 330pm so it wasn't packed but there were a lot of customers for a Saturday afternoon. I decided to eat simply today. The bread was different than what I usually eat in an Italian spot but it had more substance to this bread than usual; very good! I decided on the spaghetti and meatballs with fresh Parmesan. The service was excellent and the ambience was great. The rear patio is lighted and heated for nighttime dining. Mom had the same as me and my stepdad had the raviol I believe. It's a hard spot to find because it's amidst other eateries. I wanted to celebrate my birthday in the quaint restaurant due to such great reviews. Italian food is my second favorite cuisine. I think our experience would have been a little better if it wasn't raining bcs I was looking fwd to sitting outside with my group of 12. The inside seating is narrow and so I felt I was in the way of the main path. It took us a minute to figure out the best seating. What I ordered was great: Pappardelle de Aragosta, bruschetta, garlic bread. I did hear Pollo Alla Parmigiana was pretty awesome and also heard the mushroom ravioli wasn't a hit. Some people did order "fettuccine Alfredo" which isn't an Italian dish and those people said they have had better so I was bummed for them but not for me :) Carlos, the owner, was very accommodating and very generous I was sung to, got a delicious treat pana cotta and dessert wine, Thank you Carlos and staff! Went here for my birthday two years ago with my family (party of 6) and had the best birthday dinner ever! Carlos made it extra special, the live music was on point and the food did not disappoint. Needless to say I have been dying to go back and when my best friend's birthday came around I decided this would be the perfect opportunity! I was looking forward to my reservation all week! Sadly, this visit was much different than my first. We were seated next to a large party with kids that were screaming, running around and bumping our table! The parents did not even bother to look up or care that they were disrupting the patio area. It got so bad I asked to be moved! I was offered a table literally next to where we already were or inside. I declined because we wanted the ambiance of the patio area. Heating lamp kept going out and we were freezing, my friend had to ask for every little thing multiple times (and we most definitely were charged for it- example oil and vinegar for the bread they served, extra bread.) We ordered apps, entrees, alcohol and dessert, as I said this was a special occasion. I was pretty embarrassed of the overall experience since I hyped this place up so much. We ended up being there close to three hours because the service was on the slow side. Once the kids left after two hours we started to somewhat enjoy ourselves but overall my dining experience was subpar. Spent close to 200$ on two people and left feeling bummed out. read more

Finally decided to give this local spot a try and very glad we did. If you're driving, 4th street has tons of parking options - but it can get packed depending on the day and time. So be prepared. Initially we were confused as to how to put our name down for a table. When one of the workers went behind the counter and wasn't helping anyone, I went in to ask for a table. 5-10min wait on a Saturday at 8pm... not too bad. I only saw one party sitting inside and was wondering where everyone else was, but was delighted to find that there was an outdoor backspace. It was absolutely adorable, perfect for anyone looking for a more intimate or romantic spot. They even had live music going with a local singer playing covers and taking requests. The vibe was on point. The staff was friendly, but seemed very frazzled. It was a busier night it seemed to be fair, but I would expect that for a Saturday night. They offer beer and wine, if that's your choice. Menu over all had good options, we started with a Bruschetta and then both me and my partner got the Mamma Mena. They brought out a bread basket, which was delicious! The bruschetta was good, but something was missing - but I can't quite pin point what. Same review from my partner. So just overall good. We were admittedly hungry and scraped them down, so maybe we didn't have a chance to fully savor hah. The Mamma Mena I thought was good overall. The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente and the meatballs were so good. The sauce could have used a bit more seasoning for my taste, but it was good. My partner gave it a slightly lower review, because he likes a more robust type of sauce. He did say it was good though. Came here for a friends birthday and the ambiance was really lovely, live soft guitar playing outside and so thankful they had warmers outside! The service was great, very attentive and sweet despite our group being large! And the dish I ordered, gnocchi Al pesto, was delicious. The gnocchi were nice and soft and the sauce was so good I was cleaning it off my plate with my bread lol I had the Mama Peach to drink, similar flavor to Secco from Trader Joe's, deliciously peachy. Almost a hidden gem at 4th Street, smack between a very busy Little Coyote and a concept shop you can almost miss this quaint Italian restaurant. But when craving for a good, hearty, Italian meal then this is the place to go. Rating is more of a 4.5 than just a 4. Portions were big and very much worth the $. You can never go wrong with their Calamari (perfectly crispy, crunchy and the marinara dip is on point), Eggplant Parm (its hard to make a good eggplant parm and they cooked the eggplant so so well), Papa Tony (this is where the -0.5 comes from, it was just meh, it was ok but not great, it was a little water-y and didn't taste much even if it came with spicy sausage cuts in it), and last but definitely not the least their Tiramisu (so good and not at all cloyingly sweet). They have a pretty comprehensive menu so we'll be back to try the other pasta dishes, for sure. And do not sleep on their compli fresh bread, so good and came out warm and was obviously home made. On mother's day they gave every table a complimentary bottle of wine, and when I went on my birthday I had a friend with celiac's disease...she originally was just going to get a salad but when she mentioned it to our server the chef came out and personally created a meal for her that she could eat!!! This quaint neighborhood Italian restaurant has been on my list to try for some time now and I'm so glad that I finally did. Reservations are recommended and be sure to give yourself some extra time to find parking. They have a small interior but I recommend sitting on the back patio which feels secluded and intimate, filled with trees. My friend and I were seated near the speaker so the music was too loud but it certainly added to the ambiance. It just feels like such a homey, family place here but one that would also be great for a date night. They serve Roman and Neapolitan style dishes and the menu is quite extensive. We started with the complimentary bread and the Calamari Fritti which was well executed. My main was the Pappardelle all' Aragosta, lobster and fresh tomato sauce with a touch of a cream. There was so much lobster in the dish, the pasta tasted extremely fresh and the sauce wasn't too heavy. I haven't seen this dish at any other restaurants so I highly recommend ordering it here. We couldn't end the night without dessert, and I selected the Cannoli which came with 3 mini versions and was delectable without being too sweet. Across the board, everything in our meal was well balanced and I look forward to trying more of the menu. read more

Came to dine here with 4 guests on one of the busiest weekend where Cambodian Town Film Festival was taking place. We had no reservation and the restaurant was able to accommodate us on such short notice. We had to dine and dash in order to catch the upcoming films featured at the film festival. I ordered the Alfredo pasta with chicken, was just heavenly to me, creamy and delicious. My partner ordered his usual spaghetti with meatballs, and ate his entire portion. Picked up the mushroom risotto for dinner - mainly wanted it for carb loading before my race the next day. Didn't like the dish - felt like they used too much wine while cooking, the risotto just smelled and tasted like it . The food was ready on time for pick up and the people working there were courteous, so I will give them that. read more
