This place is terrible. The manager is insolent, surly, rude, unprofessional. She needs to be fired immediately. The food is average. There are much better breakfast places in town. They let dogs walk around where you eat UNLEASHED. They let them bark incessantly. It's just dreadful (and I'm an owner of 3 dogs and love taking them with me...but I expect them to be civilized). I let the manager know about the dog problem and she chastised me. I let the owner know. Haven't heard back from him. Since they seem to be so unresponsive, I've contacted Boulder Health Services. This place needs to be reminded of proper behavior related to both it's dogs and humans. I'll post an edit if they happen to catch a clue. read more

We needed a brunch spot to celebrate and Tangerine happened to be close by and have good reviews. We heeded one yelpers review to grab the Groupon, which really just gave us $7 off our meal. Tangerine is not the cheapest option on the block, but their menu definitely has something for everyone - Gluten Free, Vegetarian and Omnivores (like us)! It is trendy, bright and clean and their menu has some unique offerings. We were both starving so we went with the Corned Beef Hash and Chicken and Waffles. Both were delicious. The corned beef was toasted and served as nice big chunks mixed into russet potatoes, while the chicken was tender and the cashew cream on the waffles a nice touch. My one dislike was that the waffle was thick and dry and tasted like the mix you get at hotel continental breakfast buffets. Fairly bland, but was saved by the cream and maple syrup. They have a great selection of drinks, teas, coffees, house made hot chocolate (which was wonderful) and smoothies. At the time I am writing this review Tangerine currently ranks at a 3.5 stars here on Yelp. Based on my first (and most likely only visit) I would agree with the 3.5 rating perfectly. While the food was definitely better than your average breakfast place across the country here in Boulder there are great options for breakfast to compete against. If I had to put my morning dining budget somewhere; unfortunately for Tangerine it would probably be elsewhere. The biscuits and gravy were very tasty, but like everywhere else I ate in Boulder this weekend, the portion size was small even for someone who's lost a lot of weight in recent months like myself who was looking for a smaller meal. When we first walked in we were greeted and had a place to sit and wait. The overall atmosphere looked very vibrant and modern. The wait was only about 5 minutes and this was around 10 o'clock on a Sunday morning. When we were seated it took less than 30 seconds for a server to greet us and get our drink order. It's nice that they have a full barista so that you can order a coffee if you don't really feel like having an alcoholic beverage. The coffee was prepared really well and was delicious. I ordered the corned beef hash and the food took around 5-7 minutes to come out. The portion was very good and enough food for me as I tend to eat a lot. The beef was cooked well and had a pretty solid seasoning and paired well with the potatoes, onions, and parsley. The service was pretty good. The server was attentive and never left us stranded to a point where we needed to ask someone to get her. She was polite and professional. I am giving 4 stars because although it was a very positive and delicious breakfast experience, there wasn't anything that profoundly stuck out at me to merit a 5. I stopped here before work on a Monday morning at around 6:55am and there was already a crowd forming in front of the door. I ordered the Monte Cristo and it was the best one I ever had. The bread was light and fluffy, the meat was tender and juicy, the cheese was melted just enough that it pulled when I picked up the sandwich, the jam was thick and sweet and the side of potatoes were thick and seasoned perfectly. I also had the fruit cup which was filled with fresh crisp green apple slices, plump blueberries and grapes, and flavorful strawberries. For a review of this nature I would generally give 5 stars, but the service was slow and at times non existent, after I was done eating I waited over 15 minutes for the waitress to come out from the kitchen so I could pay. Yelp is great. I wouldn't know about this fine establishment without it. I very much love breakfast out, from all but the worst greasy spoons to the finer places. Tangerine is on the later end of that scale. Where else but, say, on the West Coast can you find a vibrant, deep green salad for breakfast? It was great! The dressing was lemon and not corrputed by much else. Yes, lemon: One of the most appetizing of all of God's foods. Drop a couple eggs on top of the multi-vegged salad and -- voila! -- you have a delectable and wholesome breakfast. After being asked how I wanted my eggs (poached) the delightful server then asked how I wanted my poached eggs: light, medium or hard. I've never been asked that as I always had an idea that there really is just one perfect poaching that is possible. I ordered 'medium' and received the perfectly poached egg, with the yolk flowing in that just-right way. Unfortunately, not much of the whites survived onto my plate, so the eggs were a bit small. I asked for cheese on my breakfast salad (add $1.15) and got to choose from grana padano, white cheddar, provolone or, my selection, gorgonzola. YUM!! I substituted potatoes for toast for an additional $0.50. The potatoes were perfectly cooked and seasoned very well, with a heavy dosing of paprika, I think. But I find the upcharge onerous. It seems this can only be justified if they are using cheap, manufactured bread and have to recoup their costs. Service was attentive, friendly, and fast. The restaurant is clean and comfortable. The only reason I'm not going with five stars is that it cost me almost $20. Too much, even for good stuff. read more

This had been a good spot for breakfast until today when I had a bad experience with my boyfriend. I ordered the asparagus mushroom which was about $12 and it came with 5 Spears of asparagus, two eggs, maybe a quarter cup of mushrooms and an inedible palenta made of what seemed like corn and grits... I requested a GF English muffin with it and it was easily one of the worst breakfasts I had ever had. I ate the asparagus but left everything else after biting into the dusty crumbly tasteless muffin as I was not going to finish something I disliked so strongly. We asked for the check and the meal was still on the check despite sending it back. I had to speak to the "manager" on staff about taking it off and was met with an unacceptable level of unprofessionalism and attitude. No apology, no offer for substitution, unacceptable in my book. As a manager, customers need to be #1, especially when bringing issues to light. They've lost two long term customers due to how the situation was handled... In addition, as someone who has severe allergies, I would like to repost their health scores and reasoning... I loved this place! I would not call it a hole in the wall. It is very warm and inviting, with large tangerine-colored globes for lighting. Clever! Service was prompt and our server was courteous and attentive. But the food is what garners the 5 stars. My boyfriend had the Monte Cristo. It was a huge portion, and he had to bring half of it home. I recently came here for brunch on a Saturday. The wait was only 10 minutes, and I think it was even less than that. I rarely come here because it's quite a bit further from my house, but I really need to visit more often. The restaurant is really cute and well decorated. The service was prompt. They even have liquor, should you choose to imbibe for brunch. I skipped this time, but I'm sure I'll be back in the near future. They have lots of vegetarian options (if you're a vegetarian, which I'm not) and the menu is quite hard to select from because everything sounds so good. I have eaten here countless times with my boyfriend and also family members over the past 2 years. The menu choices are so unique and the wait staff is always very polite and diligent. Tangerine is one of my favorite, go-to restaurants in Boulder. This past visit, I was very disappointed with the food quality. I was going to order the special, grits with ratatouille, and I asked the waitress if it was vegetarian friendly. She responded to my question, but followed up by saying that other tables that morning had been dissatisfied with the taste and she didn't recommend I order it. I really appreciate her honesty but at the same time, if the restaurant is serving something they know is not good from patron feedback, why did they continue to serve it? Anyways, my usual orders are the egg sammy with brie, the polenta and romesco, and the beans, roots, and greens. During this past visit, I ordered the beans, roots and greens. My boyfriend ordered the steak and eggs (his usual). Our dishes was delivered in a timely manner and were well seasoned. Unfortunately, the "greens" were a majority collard green stems and the beets were crunchy and under-roasted. Just a bit of back-story, the restaurant has local newspaper articles posted on its walls about the fresh, cage-free eggs they use for every dish. This fact has been apparent on all other prior visits and I really enjoy this aspect of Tangerine's food. However, my boyfriend and I ordered our eggs scrambled and they were clearly not farm fresh, but instead reminded me of hotel eggs -- the pre-homogenized kind that you buy in bulk in a plastic bag. This was the most disappointing component of both of our meals. My boyfriend ordered his steak medium -- half was medium and the other half was very rare. The guacamole tasted like a packaged product, rather than freshly prepared in-house (like it used to be). The polenta was congealed and lukewarm. I realize that Tangerine has expanded into Lafayette and soon into Longmont. I hope that the restaurant expanding to different cities is not the reason for the observed reduction in quality on my last visit. The Service: Friendly but incomprehensibly slow-- even when the restaurant is slow. I know I could have stood more frequent coffee refills--I like it hot! Last time my boyfriend's poached egg came out hard and a server didn't come over to ask how our food was until I was done eating--and we were one of only three tables in the restaurant. Not profesh. The Food: Beautiful menu with lots of drink options, including fresh squeezed juices & mimosas, beer & wine. Accommodating to gluten-free & vegetarian needs, this restaurant is definitely Boulder-oriented if you know what I mean. Being a born Boulderite, I like that about it, and its emphasis on vegetable dishes and classic & creative flavor combinations --there's four different Benedicts for example, and about every pancake possibility you can imagine. I think it's a great modern American brunch. The food is tasty but inconsistent. Poached eggs coming out hardboiled is not profesh. I was considering the BLT but chose against it when I saw one arrive at the table next to us -- it looked like just huge squares of focaccia bread. Also their BLT features balsamic mayo...I'm not sure why. Overall: Good solid Boulder brunch. Lots of tasty & vegetarian options; badass breakfast drink menu, good coffee, good French toast. Tangerine came highly recommended from a coworker, so we were surprised at how disappointing our Sunday brunch experience was last week. We ordered a Bloody Mary (a house specialty) and a regular coffee for drinks. The Bloody Mary was terrible. It tasted like barbecue sauce. We sent it back in exchange for a Bellini, which didn't have enough peach puree to impact the flavor of the champagne at all. The coffee didn't arrive until after the meal. If nothing else, a breakfast restaurant should be able to deliver a cup of joe nearly instantly. To make matters worse, the coffee tasted plain awful, and I was never offered a refill (although I probably would've turned it down). For our meal, we shared the Chicken & Waffles, which is the first of six house specialties on their menu, and two eggs on the side. With the exception of the Steak & Eggs, the Chicken & Waffles is the most expensive item on the menu. So it was dismaying that the chicken pieces and waffle were both overcooked and dry. The chicken was chewy and tough, and difficult to chew through. To the restaurant's credit, our order was made correctly, the eggs were cooked properly, and the cashew cream on the Chicken & Waffles was pretty good. All in all, we've spent far less for far better brunches, so I wouldn't recommend Tangerine. read more

Every time it comes out the food is cold - not even warm a little - the English muffin isn't toasted and falling apart. The potatoes not cooked well def not crispy. I sent the potatoes back last time and still when they brought them back out still cool and not crispy. The idea of BLT with an egg - sliced tomato, lettuce and a stop or two of bacon with an egg on top all on a toasted English muffin with hollandaise on top ... what comes out was chopped up tomato, small chunks of bacon and three small pieces of arugula... it wasn't good - I have given it a go on every time I come to town because it was once good... but nope. read more

We went during brunch time and there was a 20 minute wait (it's a fairly small place) during a chill day. However, they offer free complementary coffee which was just perfect to keep us warm and waiting. They had a limited menu but it all sound delectable. I had a savory biscuit with poached eggs and it was delicious. Price was fairly reasonable. I had a bite of my friend's blueberry waffle and it was great. Turns out we had good reason to be surprised; we ended up waiting about 45 minutes before we were seated. That's the only reason I'm docking a star, everything else was fantastic! They had coffee you could grab while you were waiting (kinda like at Snooze) and it wasn't too cold for us to be waiting outside; I just wish we had had a better idea of how long the wait was. The food was fantastic and I am not exaggerating when I tell you that these were the best home fries I have EVER had!!! They were crispy and well seasoned and not soggy or oily like most home fries are. I will be back again and again and again! Came here for breakfast with my friends and ordered the only true test of a breakfast joints capacities. Pancakes. I believe I got chocolate chip banana cakes and they were good.
