I spent a weekend helping my best friend pack up and move, and wanted to bring her a few sweet…read moretreats as a little gift. She has celiacs and so I am always super cautious with baked goods I buy for her so that they're safe for her to have. Crestone was one of the first (and highest rated) bakeries I came across that were specifically catering to the gluten free world. I read through a couple reviews and was almost immediately sold - the hype was great and they weren't too far from me to stop in before making my drive. Crestone is nestled in a pretty large strip mall area, and is right next door to another baked good shop. There is plenty of parking, so finding a spot was very easy. Right when I walked in, I was surprised by the sheer quantity of items in the storefront; there are several refrigerated cabinets, glass cases, shelves, and tables with various items on display. You can kind of see into the back when you walk in, and there are a number of people bustling about. The atmosphere is very welcoming, and the folks in the front I assume were the owners. The wife (I think) offered to answer any questions I had, and was very obviously knowledgeable about all the items and nuances with the various recipes. I explained I was there for a friend and that she has had a tough time finding gluten free items that both lasted and tasted good. I was guided around the whole storefront and given several recommendations for items that would be good to try and also hold up for the few hours of driving I had in front of me. After perusing for some time, I got several items: a loaf of sandwich bread, sugar cookies with buttercream frosting, apple fritters, and a soft pretzel. I don't usually shop for gluten free items, but the variety of product at this place is super impressive. I don't see quite the level of diverse products really anywhere I've ever been before, to be honest. This rivals the chain store bakeries in terms of the different types of goodies, in my opinion. All items held up super well during the drive, and the couple of cookies I saved for myself the next day were just as delicious as I expected. My favorite of the bunch had to be the fritter... I LOVE apple fritters normally but I have to say these were probably better than any I've had before, gluten free or not. My friend absolutely loved everything and said that it was by far the best gluten free option she has had to date. That being said, I will definitely be back. There are so many things I'd like to try!

Quick note though, they do not pick up their phone. I called three times before heading over and it just rang straight to voicemail each time, so don't count on getting ahold of anyone. We walked in as a two top and got seated in the back room. At first I wasn't loving it since it's kind of cut off from the rest of the restaurant and the ambiance definitely takes a hit back there. But our server Tristen completely turned that around. Super knowledgeable, funny, kind, and quick. He also paid close attention to my girlfriend's allergies and made sure she could order without stressing, which I really appreciated. Food wise, everything hit. Classic steakhouse vibes in the best way. My ribeye was cooked perfectly and the mussels we started with were actually great, which you don't always expect out here in Colorado being landlocked. All in all, aside from the back room situation and the phone issue, this place delivered. Honestly feels like that space should be reserved for private events or opened up a bit. Huge shoutout to Tristen though, he alone bumped this from a solid 3 to a 4 for me.

Bangkok Avenue - Pad Thai

Bangkok Avenue delivered a large take-out order for five people last nite that was, from start to…read morefinish, deeply forgettable. The common thread across every dish was not inconsistency but uniform blandness. What arrived on our table lacked taste, energy, and intention, as if the kitchen was simply executing recipes without engagement or care. The moo ping should have been a highlight sweet, smoky, caramelized, and alive with char. Instead, it arrived hollow and lifeless, missing the marinade and fire that define the dish. There was no depth, no fragrance, no sense that the cook believed in what was being served. The accompanying rice was merely filler, and an additional order of Thai fried rice continued the same pattern: edible, but flat, dull, and entirely uninspired. My wife's gluten-free Pad Thai with tofu, a dish built on balance and brightness, was especially disappointing. It lacked acidity, sweetness, umami, and spice every note that gives Pad Thai its character. The noodles felt seasoned out of obligation rather than intention. It was food that offered no pleasure and no reason to return to it, ultimately left unfinished out of sheer indifference. This experience was not about spice tolerance, dietary restriction, or personal preference. Five people ordered widely, and the conclusion was unanimous: nothing stood out, nothing lingered, nothing satisfied. When every plate is this muted, it signals more than an off night it suggests a chef cooking without inspiration, without curiosity, and without soul. Thai cuisine is bold by nature. Having eaten throughout Thailand, we know that even the most modest street stall delivers food with clarity, confidence, and heart. What was served here bore little resemblance to that tradition. Last night (contrary to other nights and lunches in the past) , Bangkok Avenue did not simply miss the mark it stripped Thai food of the very element that makes it special: taste. Dish was a bit under-seasoned, could have used more salt and depth of flavor. I ordered medium spice and then added more spice to make up for the lack of flavor. I'd come back to try some more traditional Thai dishes, but was a little disappointed with the ramen.

One advice I can make to anyone who's thinking of trying this eatery is, you have to be very open-minded because what they serve is vegan food and is not anything like the traditional food items you see at a typical/normal restaurant. After browsing some photos uploaded by other reviewers on Yelp, I kind of set my mind on Bakun Burger. Upon arrival (after being warmly greeted by a few workers inside), I was given the menu by one of the workers. To my surprise, the menu is extensive. Although some other items on the menu tantalized me (such was the Yellow Curry), I went with what I had originally planned: Bakun Burger. And to go along with it, I picked one of the cheesecakes (raspberry.) The total came to $24.25. The lady gave me my cheesecake right away; it was a good size. Now once my burger was ready, one of the guys in the kitchen came to me with a small to-go box. I opened the container immediately there was my burger sitting in the container looking quite small. It was (however) quite the weight; it looked dense inside. Once I got to my car, I started my little feast. Like I said, the burger was dense with all kind of ingredients inside; it's quite the weight although it's small for the kind of price they charge $13 with some change.)I couldn't quite make of it as to what the everything was to form and make the black burger patty in the middle. It tasted ok; it wasn't super impressive however. By the way, this burger is served cold. I took a bite out of the cheesecake. This was also an okay-ish; it tasted like Yakult a little bit. I still have to say that I enjoyed my first visit to this unique restaurant because it's not anything like other restaurants. I definitely want to try other items on the menu such as Yellow Curry and Pad Thai. Place like this usually does well in salad category so give it a try if you're a salad person.

These guys definitely pride themselves on their quality ingredients and it definitely showed. It is one of the best tasting burgers I've had in a while and left me feeling like I had a good hearty meal. The part that stood out the most to me interestingly enough was the cheese on the burger. I've had my fair share of cheeseburgers, but I think this is the first one where I acknowledged the cheese having an awesome flavor and actually bringing everything together and adding a great flavor to it. I thought the fries were very good too. Bonus points for beef tallow. Overall a good meal and left full and happy. A fair value definitely for Boulder, but was starting to push it with a burger and fries being $20. And that didn't include a drink. So you're getting up there in price if you do anything further, especially for a burger and fries. Would recommend and would return.

The restaurant itself is nice, clean, and customer service is friendly. However, the menu is al-a-cartè, and expensive, including sauce! Have you ever seen a fast food, or any restaurant for that matter, charge for sauce??? Oh well, we're here, so we tried it anyway. The burgers were loaded with salt, almost inedible, yet the fries had none. Although the fries make up for the lack of salt by being over-soaked in grease. I get it, it's fast food, I didn't expect a gourmet burger; although for the $45 we spent on 2 burgers, a fry, and a shake, it should be! I recommend McDonald's, Burger King, or Wendy's, if fast food burger is what you want. They taste better, and are a heck of a lot cheaper than Wld Pastures.
